Guest Reviews
- Macdonald (9/5): -
- William (9/5): - Friendly relaxed owners who made you feel at home.
Quiet residential situation a short walk from pub and other eating places Nothing
- Freddie Green (9/5): Quirkily comfortable, friendly and interesting - Lovely breakfast in the pottery shop and tour of the pottery
- david (10/5): - Everything Host was very friendly and explained everything perfectly
- David (10/5): Great stay and lovely hosts -
- Brian (2/5): awful - very little we were not informed by the owners that we had to stay in a converted hayloft with only a rusty outside twisting staircase to get to room. The room was poorly decorated and you had to stand on the bed to close the blinds with a pole. The shower was dirty with mould around the seals. the heaters were not efficient so that my wife had to sit with a blanktet around her. You could not get a normal suitcase up or down the stairs. The breakfast was continental only sitting at one table with other guests in the pottery shop!!! the car park was too small with no lights.
- Joanna (8/5): - Very comfortable lovely place to stay. Thought it was a little pricey.
- Androulla (10/5): - Lovely hosts and ideally located, so we could walk into town for dinner. Great Italian restaurant in town The spiral staircase to get to the room. It should state this on the page where you choose the room, not elsewhere. We didn't see it when booking. Would have liked more variety of fruit to go with the yoghurt as I dont eat cereals.
- Malcolm (10/5): A great place to stay - We stayed in the Gypsy Caravan - it was definitely a unique experience and highly recommended for those with a spirit of adventure. Vinegar Hill pottery is a great place to visit with excellent hosts. Thanks for a great stay
- Roger (8/5): -
- Jonte73 (10/5): - Väldigt charmigt och trevligt. Mycket trevlig värd.
- Jeremy (9/5): Quiet and comfortable stay -
- Jennifer (7/5): Quaint and comfortable - Very interesting and comfortable place.
Lucy and Dave were welcoming
- Ally (10/5): - Why take your family away and stay in a faceless corporate hotel, cramped into one room, sitting on the beds, when you could be enjoying a lovely quiet rural cottage style family suite! Friendly, welcoming host, tasty continental breakfast - this is a very comfortable, spacious accommodation with all the amenities. The suite was perfect for us, centrally located, just a few minutes walk (no pavement) to the village, with some great eateries.
- Darton (10/5): Exceptional - lovely property in a beautiful location. The owners are friendly and welcoming and the room is beautiful and extremely comfortable. The village and beach are only a short walk away.
- Kevin (10/5): Great location and amazing place to stay - We had a lovely night at Vinegar Hill Pottery. It’s a great location and a short walk to the beach and sunset…
The breakfast was delicious.
I would recommend staying here
- Martyn115 (10/5): Lovely rooms at The Pottery - Lovely rooms at The Pottery, all very comfortable, with off road parking. We were given an excellent breakfast inc home baked Croissants, cereals, yogurt & melon, a good start to our Walking day. Thanks.
- Robert (8/5): Unique place, infused with VH ceramics, super-quiet but easy walk to village centre. - Beautiful location, in garden setting, in quiet neighbourhood, close to village centre with shops, pub, cafe/s, restaurants. Very comfortable suite. Breakfast could include something savoury - it was mostly pastry/sweet food.
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Great cozy snug. Friendly hosts - Lucy the host was smiley, cute and fun as she showed me around. Breakfast was substantial, if carb heavy, but I hadn't mentioned anything to the host beforehand not sure if other option is available but was very good and appreciated. Amazing organic selection of wash stuff in the bathroom. Easy drive (literally a 3-5 minute drive) to the village & seafront but make sure you know where you are and its all good. Milford-on-sea is great little village super cute & plenty to do locally from spas to golf to watersports. New Forest is just amazing really & so are the people. Great cozy snug with happy fun hosts. Was some uncertainty with communications at the end but was quickly resolved. Personally if you have a longer vehicle like mine then the initial entrance to the small but perfectly sized parking area seemed a bit snug and turning around presented an initial challenge but most family cars would be fine. And the hosts have a van they get in and out with so there is definitely room. Kitchen is seperate. A wood burning stove or firepit outside would be the icing on the cake for a winter Snug
- Stephen (8/5): Excellent, perfect for a stay in Milford on Sea - Breakfast was served in a unique location, with grapefruit, freshly cooked croissants and toast and the option of cereal.
Location was ideal, as although located in quiet country lane, it is a leisurely 10 minute walk to the buzzing centre of Milford on Sea and little more and you are overlooking Christchurch Bay towards the Needles.
- Darren (9/5): Superb -
- Bob (6/5): Spent two nights instead of 3 informed the host we were leaving early she understood and offered a discount if we retur - 10 mins walk to Village 15 mins walk to the beach Spiral Staircase felt unsafe when handling Luggage No Wi-Fi for a day For a deluxe double room the bed was uncomfortable and small we didn’t know it would be a loft room
- Noel (9/5): Hosts very welcoming, good location near to town, off road parking. - Very clean and tidy, plenty of room. Unable to regulate the Shower, did tell owner at the end of stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Guests are told to contact the property for check in instructions. I would expect the owners to contact the guest, but I emailed for instructions and got no response. I called twice on the day of arrival only to get an answer machine saying don't bother leaving a message because we don't bother picking them up! I did leave two messages and emailed again and eventually got a response which was to knock on the door! The entrance to the car park is narrow, not helped by foliage needing a trim. The owner was a friendly chap and showed us to Rosie and the wet room. It was tiny and the owner stated, 'everything gets wet so you might like to move your towels and toilet roll' which was all very well but there were no hooks or a shelf to move them to, and it was so tiny that the one shelf over the basin prevented you leaning over to clean your teeth. Additionally the floor was wet when we got there, although it had dried by morning. It was clean as was Rosie and we had a comfortable stay. On the property"s website it says the continental breakfast is delivered to the wagon. No, it is in a shop/kitchenette. There are hot croissants but you cook your own toast and make your own drinks. Unfortunately the bin was full from the day before, and there was a very dirty cloth in a dirty bowl and the cupboard doors looked like they had never been cleaned. I was relieved to see there was a dishwasher. Sadly, it all felt like it was a bit too much effort for the owners.
- Julie (8/5): Unwind in Rosie the Gypsy Wagon, - We had a perfect break away from it all. The perfect place to totally unwind, we loved the place even with heavy rain for the whole time. There was really good breakfast every morning, fresh warm croissants, homemade jams and fresh fruit.
- Jamil (7/5): Unique family run b and b based around a pottery - Excellent location and a unique b and b based in and around a pottery. Lovely room up in the hayloft . Not really any outdoor space to sit- garden was for private use only.
- Ursula (9/5): Superb -
- Anthony (8/5): A delightful and comfortable property set close to the village. Very enjoyable. - How close it was to Milford on Sea, the charm of the property and with a carpark close to the room. We had been expecting a full English breakfast although in the write up it just said breakfast and on our initial arrival into the room we found the toilet had been used.
- Christina (9/5): Pretty room in a pretty location. - Lovely pretty room at the top of an external spiral staircase (fine for us, consider if you have mobility issues). Room was clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast of croissants, cereal, oj, good coffee, and fruit in the beautiful pottery (bought one of the lovely plates). Owners were kind and friendly. Would certainly come again. Very little! Our only quibble would be that the mattress was getting a bit old and creaky. Everything else was great.
- Judith (10/5): Enjoyable stay - The host was very friendly and helpful especially to my husband who has mobility issues. He even brought breakfast to our room.
- Rebecca (8/5): It was just what we were looking for - It was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and informative
- Ursula (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tamsin (9/5): Superb -
- Natasha (10/5): - Amazing host and beautiful quirky property.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, lovely room and great hosts. Breakfast was delicious too!
- Julie-anne (10/5): - A lovely 3 day break in charming quirky accommodation that is the stuff of memories.
- Marnie (8/5): Very cosy. Felt like home - Owners very friendly and helpful. Garden suite was perfect for the family. Village and beach within walking distance Sound from above room
- Jean (10/5): - Our room was spacious and light and airy. Access to the hayloft room was via a spiral staircase so may not suit everyone but we found it was fine. We were served breakfast in our room which was very nice, and included fruit cereal, yoghurt, toast and croissants. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, we enjoyed our stay.
- Linda (9/5): Wonderful stay, great hosts and beautiful location. - Was a pleasure to stay at David and Lucy’s place. Very friendly people, with great advice about the local area. The space was just what we needed and very comfortable and clean. Great location with short walk to local town and beach/sea front. The only thing that could have made the stay better would be to have the option of a small fridge in the rooms. Nothing we didn’t really like
- Marvyn (9/5): Good location for exploring the Milford on Sea area. - Yes enjoyed Breakfast healthy Continental variety.
Room was very comfy, myself and partner particularly liked shower very powerful.
Found a nice walk along wooded pathway to main Milford on Sea shops and Pub Restaurants etc. One thing only No hanging space facilities for clothing or Coats.
- Sara (5/5): Passable - breakfast was superb! There was no privacy as people passed all our windows and we could hear voices clearly from the laundry. The access tto our room was awkward and the car park so crowded we were anxious about our car.
- Alison (10/5): A lovely characterful property with thoughtful touches, a lovely breakfast and lovely hosts - Lots of character, clean and quirky! Very comfortable, thoughtful touches, lovely hosts and lovely breakfast! Nothing
- Susan (8/5): Nice location & lovely room within 10minutes of local town - Lovely breakfast, delivered straight to the door by a friendly face which was a nice touch. Comfortable, tidy room & town within 10 mins walk which was great. Also good to have free onsite parking. A few extra touches would have been nice, there was no toilet roll provided so had to go & get some from the local shop! It would have been nice to have toiletries available plus a better quality of hot drinks. Unfortunately could also hear downstairs washing machine at 10.45 at night which wasn’t ideal.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Really nice. - Liked everything close to the town. Lucy and family were great and the breakfast was delicious.
- Margaret (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay and the delicious breakfast served to us in our room. - Quirky building. Our room was furnished tastefully and in keeping with the quirkiness of the room. It would not be suitable for a long stay — more than 1 night- as there is very little storage for clothes.
- David (9/5): Very enjoyable and friendly. - Clean and well equipped. Stairs a bit tricky.
- Pamela (8/5): Very good - Spira staircase
Only for the young
- Liz (10/5): - The gypsy caravan is a lovely place to stay, a great contract to soulless chain hotels. The bathroom and shower room are a short stroll away and spotlessly clean. There are lots of thoughtful details to make your stay and the host made ezcellent recommendations for places to eat.
- Ros (9/5): A welcoming and unusual B & B. - The breakfast was excellent, especially the home-made marmalade. The location was quiet and pleasant and within reasonable walking distance of the sea and a choice of good restaurants The location would have been even better if a bit closer to the sea and the restaurants. It would have been nice to have somewhere to sit apart from the bedroom on a wet day, but this wasn't promised.
- Mary (10/5): Peaceful location, easy walking distance to town and coast - Continental breakfast. Wonderful selection.
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- Claudia (8/5): Lovely characterful little base to explore the New forest and coast - Great location, only 5min walk from Milford On Sea village centre. Lovely little touches, like hand-made crockery and decorations, organic New Forest shower gel and shampoo, breakfast brought to the flat every morning on a tray - made up of freshly baked croissants, butter, jam, yoghurt, honey, cereals, melon and orange juice. The hosts provided oat milk, boiled eggs and toast as an alternative for my husband who is dairy intolerant. There was also a cafetiere and freshly ground coffee which was lovely. The main double bed was nice and comfortable. The flat was a great little base to explore the area from with a small living/ dining space, a nice big bathroom (with a shower over a bath) and one bedroom with a large double bed, a single and an extra fold-up bed. The whole property is full of character - you get to the flat by going through the pottery gallery which has lots of beautiful wares to admire Our kids found the fourth (foldable) bed somewhat saggy/ uncomfortable so they took turns sleeping in that one to avoid conflict. We had a cold first night and morning as the heating was switched off, but on request that was quickly sorted and the rest of the stay was lovely and snug with just the right temperature. The flat is attached to the main house and only separated by a normal wooden door, so you can sometimes hear conversations, phone ringing etc from the owner's side.
- Mia (9/5): Superb -
- Aldona (10/5): Quirky, set in nature and very close to the sea - Quirky, set in nature, and very close to the sea. Had everything we needed and made for a sweet stay. Love that they have pottery there and a gallery. Very nice hosts and breakfast.
- Bob (10/5): Exceptional - It was all excellent no
- Anonymous (7/5): would have enjoyed it more if we had a different room but would recommend it for younger couples. - clean and good location not suitable for elderly couple. the Hayloft was up a narrow spiral staircase. bathroom was reached up two steps and would have been easier with a grab rail. obviously it was the last room available but would not have taken it if “not suitable for elderly guests” had been on website. bed was comfortable and enjoyed the tasty continental breakfast. lovely area with lots to enjoy.
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Ryan (10/5): Amazing room, great location, friendly hosts. You don't need much more. -
- Jane (10/5): A unique and amazing place to stay - The accommodation is an antique gypsy waggon positioned next to a working pottery. The weather was freezing but a modern heating fire kept me warm. I loved this small but very atmospheric space and felt safe there. The private bathroom/shower area is separate. The owners provide generous breakfast and an external kitchen area can accessed. Pottery shop on site. Lovely place.
- Lois (3/5): Very disappointing - Nothing. Overpriced for what's offered. Unpleasant attic room with no windows (just ceiling skylights). Nowhere at all to put our clothes. Heat was turned off except for a brief time in the evening. Access to the room was by a very narrow spiral staircase outdoors...would have been dangerous to climb while carrying luggage. Only continental breakfast offered to be eaten in the room. No TV. Bed linens nice but mattress a bit hard.
- Sue (8/5): Very comfortable, and peaceful location. - Breakfast (continental) brought to our room. We might have preferred a cooked breakfast in colder weather but as it was it was fine. Very good quality toiletries and of course their own crockery. Kettle needed de-scaling and the extractor fan in the bathroom did not seem to work.
We were fine with the staircase and opening and closing the shutters on the roof windows but less able people might not have been.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - That's an easy question.... answer - Everything! My answer above, we liked everything
- Benoit (9/5): Superb - Very nice all around with large bedroom and bathroom and most enjoyable breakfast. Nothing really
- Alex (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (9/5): A really pleasant, comfortable stay. The property had everything we needed and more. - Character, friendly, clean and tidy, perfect for what we needed it for - the sitting room was great. We all enjoyed breakfast! We had no problems - it was quirky to go through the gallery to get in, but not a problem.
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): very nice overnight stay with lovely breakfast and friendly host - great location, lovely room/suite nothing
- Colin (10/5): - We were very impressed with the room we stayed in. It was very well
- Geoff (9/5): Superb -
- Rose (7/5): Good - Pretty location We booked a twin room and were charged extra as there was a double and single and the charge was to make up the dsingle bed. On arrival not very welcoming. My friend left her expensive pillow behind and the owners were not at all helpful. Bathroom really rustic, shower curtain hung on a rusty wire.
- Natalie (9/5): Superb - Lovely and clean. Nice breakfast. Needs a rail over Bath to assist with showers
- Nigel (9/5): A pleasant stay with friendly owners. - Bed comfort, cleanliness, crockery made by the pottery. Wifi available although the ad stated it is not. Breakfast included with nice hot croissants. Sound insulation not good, hearing neighbours downstairs talking. A small TV would have been useful.
- Carol (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay in this quirky and delightful accommodation. - Delicious. Fresh and excellent quality products. No one there to welcome us.
We had to search around to find someone.
Not a big deal but a bit unwelcoming.
- Hudson (10/5): Exceptional - Very unusual location .Beautiful pieces of art and pottery which made it different from the norm Liked everything
- Kayleigh (10/5): Perfect! - We absolutely loved it. The family room was actually an apartment it was huge, clean and very comfortable.. Breakfast was delivered by 8.15 am and it was delicious fresh hot croissants were amazing!!
We will definitely stay again! 😃 Thank you guys!!! There wasn’t anything at all I could list.
- Nick (7/5): Wet, but that wasnt the hosts fault - it was quirky, the breakfast was lovely difficult staircase access, no radio in the room.
- John (10/5): Good place to stay - I, with my family, stayed in the garden room. The first impression was one of relaxation. It felt like being at home. kick your shoes off and breathe. Plenty of hot water and always there. Just thoroughly enjoyed the stay plus the comfort of being able to walk to restaurants of a good quality.
- mark (10/5): Perfect - Lovely owners, amazing location, wonderful all round.
- Jason (8/5): Great location, poor cleanliness and damp on walls - Great location, shame about the cleanliness of the rooms (see attached photos). Checked in for a 1 week stay in the garden room costing nearly £1,000. Unfortunately, the first thing we had to do was CLEAN the bedroom, absolutely disgusting. Damp on the walls, thick dust everywhere, smelt of damp so we went out to buy plug in air fresheners to mask the smell. No wardrobe but just a small hanging rail in the bedroom so our clothes smelled of damp during our week stay. Shower curtain had mould on it so asked for a new one, Lucy did wash it for us and apologised but surely things like this should be checked before arrival. I understand Vinegar Hill use a cleaning company for the rooms but cleanliness wasn't very good at all. No extractor in the bathroom so had to open the window to let the steam out, hence the damp in the bathroom too. I wouldn't recommend here at all unless for one or two nights, having stayed in numerous B&B's and hotels for work and pleasure over the years, this had to be the worst I've stayed in for many years. Shame really as the the owners were really nice and friendly, just needs a serious refresh, damp proofing done and a good clean to compensate for the cost of £1,000 for a week. Location was good (although take a torch with you at night time due to lack of street lamps walking back), Milford on Sea has some fantastic restaurants and pubs which made up for this poor accommodation, shame really as it looked really nice on the photos on Hotels.com
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice family stay - We had a nice family stay at Vinegar Hill Pottery B & B. It's at a convenient location - short drive from all the attractions of the New Forest and very close to the beach.
- Alain (8/5): Great location and comfortable accommodation. - Great find and in a beautiful location only a short walk to the village and beach.
The hosts give you just the right amount of attention and the continental breakfast was just right.
The accommodation is spacious and has parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Breakfast delivery in the morning was very nice but room could do with a bit of updating.
- Mark (10/5): Amazing. - An amazing weekend stay. Lucy and the team are fantastic and are highly recommend to all. The accommodation is fantastic and it’s like being at home, which obviously I love. The surrounding areas are something to behold.
- Stacey (8/5): Lovely escape to the sea from the city - It was clean and tidy, loved the decor and hosts and location was great, only thing was we had trouble with connecting to the internet for some reason but sometimes these things cant be helped
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Wagon Room was really delightful and comfortably furnished. We could have breakfast on our own in the garden outside the Wagon Room and the vegetarian breakfast was sumptuous and surprisingly enjoyable.
- Alison (10/5): A perfect venue for a catch up - We loved staying at Vinegar Hill, a lovely room with its own sitting room - perfect for our girlie catch-up weekend
- Verified traveler (6/5): - VERY THIN WALLS
Although the staff and facilities were great at this property we can only give three stars because we were kept awake all night by our neighbours who had conversations until 1 in the morning and then were snoring so loudly that we couldn’t get to sleep. The walls are so thin in this property that you can’t really relax because you feel like everyone can hear you, and you can hear them, so bear this in mind. The shower also ran out of hot water a couple of times which wasn’t very good. Breakfast was delicious and good location.
