Guest Reviews
- Belial (10/5): Ottimo posto dove soggiornare a Tarquinia - Gentilissimi i proprietari e simpaticissimi. Il B&B si trova veramente a tre passi dal centro ed è dotato di parcheggio libero nel piazzale davanti. La zona è tranquilla (come mi pare tutta la città) e la stanza è molto pulita e carina. Abbiamo dormito molto bene!
- Sherpa02132961903 (10/5): Great visit to a beautiful historical area! - It was an excellent stay and very accommodating hostess. The breakfast is a traditional Italian breakfast of pastries. Amazing historical town.
- Linda (7/5): -
- Angela (4/5): Disappointing -
- Gerard (8/5): Great people to spend time with ! - The friendship of the hosts The house was difficult to find
- Wright (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melinda (9/5): Our experience there was a pleasure staying at B&B Nonna Luisa - B&B Nonna Luisa, is located in a nice suburban neighborhood, below the city center-where a staircase can take you up to an approach to the city center(details later).
Elisa our hostess has a good command of English and loves to converse with her guests.
She is one of the very few hosts we have encountered, who actually lives at the B&B she runs.
Elisa is extremely knowledgeable of the surrounding area, cities within striking distance and popular destinations throughout Italy.
We enjoyed the abundant, traditional, sweet Italian style breakfast, plus yogurt.
Our room was well proportioned, clean, with a comfortable bed. Elisa equipped us with an extra luggage stand to complete our needs.
We felt like were staying with real Italian family!
Back to the directions to and from town: A few steps from her house, Luisa will show you how to get to the city center, by way of a staircase leading up to a road (nice shortcut). First before you proceed up the hill, note white stripes of the crosswalk on the street. Follow road to the top of hill. See the tower ahead and take crosswalk, (pass tower on your left) go left under the arch into the city center.
On the way back, pass tower on your right, take crosswalk. Almost in front of you will be Namo Rostobottega (restaurant), take the second street on your left of Namo (not the one that goes down the hill next to Namo.) OK good, now the street’s name back to B&B is Via della Gaballetta, follow this until you notice green, metal fencing along the street on the right, staircase is coming up at the crosswalk marked on the road, turn right onto staircase, descend follow gravel path and hang a right, then you should find the B&B. The stairs inside leading to our room, needs a light to be turned on at top or bottom to navigate. Also the stairs need a mark of some kind to indicate and abrupt change in direction, and shape.
The bathroom needs a little more sympathetic lighting, to match the warmer lighting in the bedroom.
- Maria (8/5): Very good - Clean and spacious rooms Far from city centre
- Lank (10/5): Exceptional - Super host. Very clean and comfortable. Great location to spend our last night in Italy and get to the airport.
- Matt (9/5): Superb -
- Mika (10/5): Memorable and authentic Italian experience - I absolutely loved my first night in Tarquinia, Italy at B&B Nonna Luisa. The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money. Location was great near the old town. Hostess Elisa was very sociable and friendly. She spoke a very good English and even took me for a walk in the old town. Her mother didn't speak English, but we used translator and hands. She invited me for an aunthentic Italian breakfast before my leave. Loved the experience!
I highly recommend if you are on a road trip and look for an inexpensive stay along your way to Tuscany from the Rome airport. And Tarquinia alone is worth to visit one day as it is a former Etruscan necropolis. Lots of history, events and museums. The old town is very beautiful and landscape around it breathtaking. The town even smelled good with bakery and flower scents, and sounded great as birds were singing everywhere!
Amazing fast-flying blackbirds crowned the experience. They were everywhere. Gotta love those little birds! Nothing comes to my mind. Everything was great!
- hollardops (10/5): Home away from home - Lovely B&B in a quiet residential location just outside the walls of the old town of Tarquinia, with a sea view from the terrace. Our room was spotless, and we got to try delicious homemade pastries and other treats at breakfast. Better than all of that, though, was the friendly and helpful service. As well as giving us suggestions for things to see and do, locally and further afield, Elisa went over and above in making sure we got where we needed to be using public transport. (We hadn't hired a car.) The whole experience felt more like staying with a friend than a B&B.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!

- Thomas (10/5): Would always book again - Veranda with a view, host Elisa is a most enthusiastic and friendly host
- Emile (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathleen (10/5): A perfect spot from which to visit Tarquinia! - A charming, clean place only a 6-8 minute walk to the historical center. The hosts went out of their way to prepare breakfasts, assist us with restaurant and touring recommendations, organize an English-speaking guide, and inform us about Tarquinia. Very welcoming and friendly!
- Mary (10/5): The perfect place to stay in Tarquinia; exceptional hosts. - Excellent hosts, Elisa and Maria. Breakfasts were so tasty, prepared and presented with pleasure to us. Elisa and Maria were so helpful in providing places to visit, where to eat, setting up a taxi for us. Great location. Nothing
- Allia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Erkki (9/5): Lovely and nice place . -
- Giulio (9/5): Superb -
- clairewX6572AR (10/5): A warm welcome - We arrived in Tarquinia late in the evening without a reservation and saw Nonna Luisa had availability. At very short notice, Luisa and her mother gave us a very warm welcome into their beautiful home.
Our room was spotlessly clean with a great sea view and an extremely comfy bed.
Luisa is a really helpful host and gave us great recommendations for restaurants and a nice walking route through the city (which we did at midnight and it was beautiful with all the lights).
Breakfast was a generous selection of eggs, fruits, a million different homemade cakes, bread, local olive oil, coffee - we didn’t have lunch! ;)
We feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this place - really lovely people!
Thank you both!! Grazie mille
- Pasiristela2015 (10/5): Great! - This is a very nice place just a few steps from the gates of Tarquinia's historical centre.
The B&B itself is exceptional with super friendly staff and a breakfast that is beyond words - I have never had anything like this!
Thank you, Nonna Luisa!
- Chris_NYorks (10/5): The full Italian breakfast - A rather late review, we stayed mid May. Our English speaking hostess and her mother were most welcoming and helpful even though we arrived late in the evening as our ferry into Civitavecchia was delayed. Sorry about setting the alarm off in the shower, I didn't know Italian showers have alarms and thought it was to turn the hot water on.
The next morning after a superb, 5 home made cake Italian breakfast she provided us with a personalised map for a walk around the historic town, close by, then explained how to drive to the necropolis. Parking at the B&B was on a residential street.
Many thanks, highly recommended.
- zubajz (10/5): Super - Really great experience. The Breakfast is really home made and huge. Luisa with mum are the excellent team. The location is very cool. Luisa is very kind and helps with local restaurants, monuments and so on.
- teehee87 (10/5): Italian hospitality at its best, two thumbs up! - The hosts, Nona Luisa and her daughter Elisa, show the best of Italian hospitality -- they picked us up and dropped us off, made delicious breakfast and made us feel at home. The location is perfect for exploring central Tarquinia and the room we stayed was romantic, elegant and clean. You can wake up to a wonderful view and there are cute pets at home. If you are looking for home away from home surrounded by Etruscan beauty, this is the place to stay at! Highly recommend.
- 447steveg (10/5): Excellent experience! - I stayed here for four nights while visiting the Etruscan sites in the area of Northern Lazio/Southern Umbria. The city of Tarquinia is a perfect base for this kind of exploring. The city has many attractions and everything you may need, but it is not too big so as to be overwhelming.
Nonna Luisa's is actually run my Nonna Luisa -- and I felt like the time that I was staying there, I was visiting the house of my nonna. If you're looking for a personal experience outside of the normal hotel and you want a more authentic look at Italian culture and hospitality, then this is the place for you. The price was very reasonable, Luisa and her daughter Elisa took great care of me, and the room was clean, comfortable, and private. Every morning, nonna Luisa made a delicious breakfast from local ingredients and was interested in asking about my day. She had great advice and really knows her city. Every evening, I came home from a hot day of sightseeing to find a clean room and a large bottle of water waiting for me. I had rented a car, and there was plenty of free on-street parking. I have been to Italy many times, and I would highly recommend you give Nonna Luisa's a try!
- paulsW6128XK (10/5): Great spot to explore Tarquinia - Very comfortable accommodation with wonderful hostess and great breakfast. Just a short (uphill) walk to the old town, this is a "must see" for central Italy. The old town is just charming with some great eateries and fantastic historical buildings.
- 51georgeb (10/5): Clean room and bathroom with comfortable bed - Nice quiet residential location with lots of parking.
The breakfast was fresh and plenty full.
There are a series of steps. To get to your second floor accomodations (all rooms are in the second floor) and some do not have an insuite
The owners are great hosts and make your visit very special.
- HaNosseah (6/5): Clean and comfortable B&B - The hostess and her daughter were very friendly and very helpful. The room is large and comfortbale, the bed especially so. The bathroom is roomy. The B&B is very clean, and our sheets were changed after two nights. Our hostess made a huge effort at breakfast, but I feel that less would have been better. A piece of toast on GOOD bread with butter and jam would have been better than cakes and other sweet things. I did not enjoy breakfast here. It's true that the B&B is only a short walk away from the town, but the walk is distinctly unpleasant (and not because it's uphill). My benchmark for B&Bs in Italy is still the Crociferi in Catania and Nonna Luisa definitely falls short of that.
- JohnN744 (10/5): Great stop on the way to Rome - We stopped at Nona Lisa on the way from Tuscany to Rome. We had been traveling for over a month and needed a break. Nonna Lusia was the perfect stop. Nice clean room with shower and a 5star breakfast each day. Very helpful host and daughter. We were 15minutes from a nice beach, which insured a relaxing day. Tarquinia dates back to the Estrucans and has some interesting museums and artifacts in the town. The Centro, like many of the towns of that era is a walled city on top on a hill. Well worth a visit.
- gavazzi (10/5): Comfortable and relaxing stay - We had a lovely two-night stay at B&B Nonna Luisa, which is first and foremost very much a family home. Our room with ensuite bathroom was comfortable, roomy and nicely decorated. Extra touches – a little dish of candies and decanter of water in our room, extra-fluffy towels, an afternoon break on the main terrace enjoying a piece of tasty homemade cake – were much appreciated as was the screen in the bathroom window. (A rarity in Italy !) Breakfast, with excellent coffee served with delicious homemade cake, was good. The location is perfect, quiet at night yet just 10 minute (uphill) walk to the historic centre of Tarquinia. (Note that climbing might be an issue for some at the B&B as there are long outdoor and indoor staircases.) Parking was not a problem and we just forgot about the car. Most exceptional, however, was the warm welcome from Elisa and her mother. We enjoyed our little chats and relaxing visit. We would highly recommend B&B Nonna Luisa to anyone who appreciates staying in a friendly family home with good comforts.
- Photom299 (10/5): WAY above and beyond - Our experience can be summed up in one word, "WOW!" We spent 4 days with this lovely family and everything was perfect. The room, the breakfasts, the help provided and the friendship could not have been better.
The walk to town is about 10 minutes (a bit uphill) so the location is great as well.
Just to give you an idea of the experience, here's a short anecdote. One day we went to Rome by train, got back late in the afternoon and decided to have dinner in town before heading back to the B&B. We got back to the room a bit late and soon found Elisa tapping our our door. She and her boyfriend were checking on us, since we got back late. They had just returned from looking for us at the train station since it was the last train of the day. Amazing!
To make it even more impressive, the mother (Maria) was preparing for and had major surgery while we were there.
Tripadvisor allows only 5 stars, but this review should be much higher than that.
- waterangel21 (10/5): Lovely! - This place was great. The rooms were really nice and had ac. I had the room with the 4-poster bed, and my only complaint was not spending enough time in there. She also had a cool bottle of water waiting for us in the room. Breakfast was great, and even though she had made pretty coffees, she accommodated me and made me a tea.
2 things of note- They have 2 dogs who, like all the other dogs in the neighborhood, really like to bark. They also have a rumored to be not so nice cat.
Secondly, there are many stairs to get in and then another flight to get into the room. It makes for a nice view of the sea, but might not be the best for those wishing to avoid many stairs.
- jlh356 (10/5): Nice experience at B&B - Maria and Elisa were great! We were taking a cruise out of Civitavecchia and wanted a place to stay outside of Rome but just a short ride to the port. The house is newer and well maintained. Our room had a terrace with a sweeping view of the Mediterranean and a private bath across the hall. The "typical Italian breakfast" was excellent. Elisa recommended a nice "locals" restaurant in the old town (just a 3 minute walk). It was nice to stay in a town without a million tourists. They were very accommodating. Next time we would like to stay longer and explore the little etruscan town more.
- cknowles21 (10/5): Couldn't be more helpful and welcoming! - Just a quick one night stay before our cruise out of Cittaveccia but very nice to stay away from busy Rome and very easy and quick to get to by train. Maria and Elisa were so very kind and the accommodations were great for us and our friends.
- JonathanMay (10/5): Warm and friendly. - Warm welcoming and attentive hosts. Pretty rooms. Clean as a whistle. One has a balcony overlooking Tarquinia. Elisa speaks good English and her mum has good French so if you don't have much Italaian that's not a problem. Lovely breakfasts. Very reasonably priced. Home from home. Stay !
- SusieLC (10/5): Extremely kind hosts! - We stayed for just one night during a cycling trip through Italy. Nonna luisa kindly stored our bikes under cover on arrival. The weather was awful during our stay and nonna luisa and her daughter were very concerned for our welfare, offering us another nights stay and helping to cancel our forthcoming accommodation. Our room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and super clean bathroom. breakfast was huge and delicious and the hosts were happy to drop everything to help-they made us feel very at home.
- Vince100 (10/5): Wonderful! - My wife and I can't say enough to fully reflect our wonderful experience at Nonna Luisa.
First, It is a super bargain compared to any other place we've stayed in Italy (Tuscany, Venice, Rome).
More important, though, is the quality of the experience. The B&B is run by Maria and her daughter Alisa, who speaks nearly perfect English. They both are dedicated to making your stay outstanding.
The included breakfast is a major event. Mom will prepare anything you ask for, and if she doesn't have it, they will get it for you. I asked for muesli, and the next day I had a giant bowl when I arrived at the table.
When the weather was good we ate on the main veranda, which had a great view looking out over the town to the ocean.
When we were there, two friend of Alisa's were staying for a short vacation; so we had breakfast with them plus Alisa, with Mom coming in and out. Maria doesn't speak English, but with Alisa to translate Mom often joined in. We got to feel like we part of an Italian family.
We had the room that has the large veranda facing the ocean, at our request. It was not large, but comfortable and adequate. The bed was good, and the outside veranda provided a "sitting room". The bathroom was directly across the hall, but this was not a problem. The other room on the floor had its own bathroom; so ours was essentially a private bathroom. One minor quibble: the veranda has a solid railing/wall that blocks one's view when sitting.
The Nonna Luisa is located a modest (5 minute, moderate uphill) walk from the center of town in a very quiet neighborhood.
What can say? We loved it.
