Guest Reviews
- Jayne (5/5): Great position in Hawkeshead within the centre. Close to shops, cafes, pubs. - The property was characteristically an old school house with character. The lounge was spacious with comfortable chairs. The property was very clean. The host is charming We were at the top of the property so we didn’t get any hot water. The beds were two small singles and uncomfortable to us. Great parking facilities
- Petra (8/5): -
- Scott (10/5): A lovely relaxing week. - The property is in an excellent location for both Coniston and Windermere, Emma and Mark were excellent hosts who made us feel very welcome. The Old School House has lots of character and a very cosy atmosphere. Breakfast here is a must, the food is delicious.
We will certainly be staying here again and will be recommending the Old School House to friends and family. Nothing, it’s great as it is.

We were in the Wordsworth Suite and having the lounge area was such a luxury! Nothing really! One constructive comment I would make is that the door to the bathroom was noisy to close so no secret visits to the loo in the night!!

- Simon (10/5): If you are thinking of starting a bed and breakfast, go and stay at The Old Schoolhouse. - Check-in was incredibly easy,, location was brilliant, room was really comfortable, the host was friendly without being pushy, breakfast is worth the money. One of the few places that we'll definitely come back to if they will have us. Booking com has asked for 2 or 3 sentences. I find myself in a difficult position. I don't really have anything negative to say. Perhaps the bed was a tad too soft for my liking. Even the shower worked much better than a lot of places where we have spent a lot more money.

- Pete (9/5): Relaxing Stay with our little dog and met some lovely people - The Excelent Breakfast and Friendly owners who made us so welcome . My only concern was that they should have a slip mat in the lovely shower. We have been to Hawkeshead many times in the past but it's looking tired and quite a few shops have closed down , we where dissapointed that the Kings Arms which was our favourite place to eat was no longer open as it has been sold and there is now building work going on, the sun hotel was also no longer there, there is now a fish and chip shop which was closed mondays and tuesdays so we struggled at finding somwhere to eat as the few pubs that are left where fully booked so on our first night we ended up going into the co op for a couple of bags of crisps. We managed to book at the queens head for tuesday which was excelent .Hawkeshead really needs to do something before they lose visitors altogether which would be a shame as it's still a lovely friendly village.
- Andy (10/5): Sheer bliss -

- Kevin (10/5): Overall a fantastic venue, and wonderful, friendly hosts🥰 - The building was beautiful, both inside and out🥰
The room had everything we needed, very comfortable big bed, large tv screen, with the facility to watch Netflix, if you already subscribe, which we fortunately do.
Great shower, copious amounts of sockets for all your media charging needs, chocolate bars daily on the tea/coffee tray, so quiet at night, you could hear a field mouse if one happened to pass by?🐭
Breakfasts were delicious, hosts were polite, friendly, and extremely accommodating 🥳 This box is not applicable!

The Old School House is very dog friendly, the property is situated very close to the village centre, while Hawkshead is a good base for travelling around Cumbria, both by car and the regular bus service. Nothing because everything was to our liking.

- Jayne (10/5): Very comfortable stay - Beautiful old house, very quirky and historic, great location for visiting the area Nothing, all excellent
- James (7/5): Hello, is anybody there? - The bed was clean and comfortable and location to Hawkhead village was very good. From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed we had no human interaction whatsoever? No body checked we had arrived or had everything we needed. We let ourselves into a cold unheated room. No body was around? The next morning when we came to leave again, no-one around to see if our stay had been nice? The place had no warmth or welcome whatsoever and was looking tired inside and out. I was dreading opening the door to our room after the journey from downstairs upstairs which looked like a student let or YMCA. To our surprise our room was clean and fresh and pleasant. We turned all of the radiators on but nothing happened. Despite it being June the weather is unseasonably chilly at parts of the day. Some people may like this place to stay over maybe it's popular with ramblers or cyclists? Who knows.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Yvonne (9/5): Beautiful place to stay - Superb location for visiting the Lakes and walking (we went to climb Scafell Pike). Really quiet village, but has everything you need. The owners were very friendly and, good choice of breakfast too.
- Hannah (9/5): Superb - We had a lovely weekend staying at the old school house. The accommodation is very central to Hawkshead with all of its amenities including a chippy, pubs, restaurants and a few nice shops. We also caught a nice sunset from the church yard close by. We loved interior of the old school house with all of its original features, and our room was warm, cosy and clean with everything we needed. The breakfast was outstanding, involving many courses- much to our delight! The hosts were very pleasant and communication was great. We look forward to our return very much!
