Guest Reviews
- Fabio (10/5): Style and comfort - The place is beautifully decorated and you definetely feel immersed in Japanese culture. The host was extremely kind and helpful, helping us in many ways. We felt very welcomed and were very sorry to leave after our week stay. His beautiful dog Shin was also very friendly!
Arigato gozaimasu!
- Kieffer (9/5): - Le cadre, l'accueil, l'emplacement
- Max Lülff (9/5): Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet, authentic spot in Kyoto with a warm atmosphere - Very lovely, family-run place. We really liked the spacious room, the historic atmosphere, and the big bathtub. We immediately felt very welcome and at home. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, which is great in a busy city like Kyoto. At the same time, it is still central enough to reach all the important spots conveniently. Overall, a big recommendation. Two small things: The walls are quite thin, so the rooms are not very soundproof. That is understandable though, as it is a historic building and typical for this kind of architecture. It would also be great to have some additional curtains or blinds to keep the room a bit darker in the morning.

- Saumya (10/5): - Beautiful place right in the center of the city very close to the river.
Has a lovely dog that would welcome us. 10/10 for the private onsen that can be booked

- Christine (10/5): Lovely, quiet, traditional property and fabulous owner. This will be your truest Japanese experience. Excellent price. - Fabulous, safe, quiet location tucked in a little neighborhood. Easily walkable to Gion, Pontchi-dori and bus access anywhere. Lovely, caring, helpful owner. Old Japan experience if that’s what you’re looking for. Loved coming back each of our four nights. Because it is a traditional former geisha house and in the Japanese style, the walls are thin wood and paper. Most other guests were very respectful coming and going which mattered to us as our room was on the first floor near the front door. However, over four nights we had a rotation of different guests above us who did not understand how much their foot falls reverberated. No fault of the owner, just a fact. We loved our stay anyway.
- Ying (10/5): Wonderful stay in Kyoto! Lovely, quite and elegant neighborhood. Thank you for hosting us! - Very pretty Japanese style lodge and neighborhood. The host is very friendly and inform us details on how to use the facilities. Location is close to Kyoto station and nearby bus stops and train stations. We would like to come back! Everything is great except the temperature in the house is little too warm.
- Andrea (10/5): - The owner/staff were very helpful and kind. They messaged us before we arrived to make sure we understood everything, to know what time we would be arriving, etc. The room was very nice. It was great to be in a place with traditional rooms/furniture and heated floors. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was nice. It was nice that they had a common area with drinks and silverware. They also allowed us to leave our bags for a while after check-out, which I wasn't sure they would allow since it is a very small location.
- Sabine (8/5): Die zwei Nächte waren super - Lage und freundlicher Gastgeber Extrem hellhörig
- Jenny (10/5): Fantastic stay with personal touch from the wonderful owner - What a wonderful stay. A real highlight for us on our holiday. Beautifully renovated by the owner who was exceptionally kind. Great position in Kyoto, quiet but near the sights. Takase recommended multiple things to do and book which were all brilliant and meant we got the best out of our stay. Thank you so much! The walls are thin like in all Japanese traditional buildings so please be mindful to keep the noise down after 10pm.

- Lilian (8/5): Wonderful Ryokan style accommodation, would stay here again. - This accommodation has a family run ryokan feel. The owner was so lovely and helpful with tourist tips, as well as WhatsApp'ing me to confirm check in time and accommodating a slightly earlier arrival. She recommended a special event at the Toji temple that we wouldn't have known about. This accommodation is in a quiet neighborhood and about 20 mins walk from the train station/ into the main town centre / Gion district.
I found sleeping on traditional Japanese futon very comfortable and the floor was heated so it was very cozy. This was a great place for my family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). There are downstairs rooms, ours was upstairs and it's 1 flight of slightly steep steps. Because it's a quiet neighborhood, it wouldn't be suitable for loud families.
- Anai (10/5): Incredible stay at Hazuky Kyoto, thank you! - Incredible stay at Hazuki Kyoto. The hotel is beautifuly crafted and staff is extremely nice. I would highly recommend it to anyone arriving in Kyoto for a true Japanese experience.
- Carlotta (10/5): -
- Karyn (10/5): - Hazuki was a beautiful choice for our stay in Kyoto. Everything is spotlessly clean, comfortable and such lovely Japanese design. Sadly I didnt get time to use the lovely onsen but it looks wonderful. The host was so helpful with information, helping dispose of a broken suitcase and brought lovely tea and japanese treats to our room. The resident dog is gorgeous, sadly I only saw him once. I highly recommend this place for your time in Kyoto. Its quaint and just perfect. Thank you Nothing.
- Iwona (8/5): - It is a nice place, but a little expensive.
- Blake (10/5): Extremely comfortable, clean, and enjoyable - It felt like home away from home
- Richard (9/5): -
- jessy (10/5): Splendid. - Kamogawa san went out of his way to help us. He even drew up Kyoto for us so we had an idea how it way lined up with a little geography lesson we were all set to go. We also loved the traditional style of the hotel and the futons! Would definitely come again when visiting Kyoto!
- Colyn (10/5): -
- Nina (10/5): - An absolute gem! The owner was soo kind and helpful, the property had high quality furniture and was very well-maintained. By staying at Hazuki Kyoto, you get to deeply experience the rich traditions Japan has.

- Maria (10/5): - Så mysigt roykan i ett mysigt område. Rekommenderas varmt!
- Meghan (10/5): Unique historic stay! - Location was nice - historical building
Host was super welcoming, went above & beyond. None
- Guillaume (10/5): -
- Anthony (10/5): - This hotel was in a super charming older neighborhood that was very peaceful and made you almost feel like you lived there. The room was spacious and amazingly decorated. The owner put a lot of thought and intention into the design of the rooms and it shows. The neighbor hood this hotel in was amazing, it was probably our favorite neighborhood we stayed in all of our trip to Japan. The owner is super friendly and his dog is very cute. He was also very attentive and checked in with us on Whatsapp and gave us recommendations. When we needed to forward luggage, he also helped accommodate that. Just be aware, that you will need to have cash to pay for the takyubin service here, we just left it in our room for him to collect. I don't like to put this as a negative, but to be transparent, it is a bit of a walk to kyoto station. Approximately 15-20 minutes. There is a subway station nearby thats about a 6-7 minute walk that will take you to the station as well, but for us by the time you wait for the train and everything you weren't really saving any time. We just made the walk every morning to Kyoto station which was fine for us.
- Vedant (10/5): Spacious, modern but with traditional vibes - The room was very spacious, heated and traditional. The owner was super nice, and gave us directions, and even dropped us off (since it was on his way). The heated floors and bed were very cool (sic) to sleep in. Nothing really to not like about the hotel.
- YUHSUAN (10/5): - 優質 無
- Benjamin (10/5): - Lovely ryokan in a perfect spot of Kyoto. Very close to bus and train routes. The staff were so kind! N/A
- Jacinta (10/5): -
- Heather (7/5): - Very quiet street in a kyoto neighborhood and house design is lovely, was away from the crowds and felt very authentic. Room is very spacious and floor heating is lovely. The place is unstaffed at times so check-out had to be done ourselves, would of been nice to have someone there to help with booking taxi's. Dim lighting so can be hard to see at times but this is noted in the description. Does feel more like a B&B so if you have large heavy luggage it will be difficult to get it up the stairs.
- JEROME.D (10/5): Wonderful stay at Hazuki Kyoto - From the arrival to the end, everything was great at Hazuki. The guest room was wonderful, clean and quiet. The bath is also really enjoyable after a good walking day.
You also have everything you need if you want to drink or eat something.
The location is perfect to visit Kyoto.
Till you respect the rules, your stay will be unforgetable.
At last, a really Big Thank to Takase for his kindness and everything he did to make our stay so incredible. Nothing
- Montserrat (9/5): Espectacular alojamiento y servicio -
- Alexander (9/5): -
- Natalia (8/5): - El aire tradicional, la zona bien comunicada.
- Valentin (10/5): -
- William (8/5): -
- Francesca (10/5): - Beautiful traditional room with a super comfortable futon – we slept really well! The owner was incredibly kind, took the time to explain everything, and gave us great tips on how to get around Kyoto and what to see. They even recommended a local activity and restaurant nearby. The place is very clean and perfectly located.
- sandrine (10/5): - Le decor Rien
- martha (10/5): Magical - Magical Nothing to report
- Evyn (10/5): - Beautiful hotel - this was a highlight of our trip. The owner is very kind and accommodating. The room was amazing and very spacious. The beds and AC made our stay very comfortable - we loved it here! Great area as well, quite nice neighborhood by the river but close to everything.
- Cheng (9/5): -
- David (10/5): - Experienced the feel of an old authentic Japanese dwelling, but yet very comfortable and spacious. Perfect location to visit Kyoto, in an old neighborhood with characteristic charm, yet away from crowds. Staff was very accommodating, making sure everything went smoothly, and that we were comfortable. Great value.
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Trollbäck (8/5): -
- Brianna (10/5): Most wholesome hotel in Kyoto - The tatami beds were so comfortable and very easy to fall asleep on, i did not have any problem. I liked that it was very traditional so we got to experience staying in a historic traditional japanese room. My favorite thing about the property was the host. He was very communicative and friendly. He went out of his way to help one of us communicate with the police and embassy about a lost passport which led to us being able to retrieve our lost passport. I would stay here again and recommend anyone staying in kyoto to experience Hazuki Kyoto. He also has a cute sweet dog named Shin who was friendly with guest. (: We really enjoyed our stay. Nothing
- Guyton (9/5): -
- Roman (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): The most welcoming and lovable stay in Kyoto (from Denmark) - My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 nights. The host/hotel manager is absolutely phenomenal. We loved his presence and were very easy to contact via WhatsApp and ask about or tell anything. There were a washing machine for free use and he was taking very good care of his guest.
No noise between neighbors or any other annoying sounds from the streets. Very calming and felt at home after just 3 nights. Sleeping on the futons on the floor was amazing for my back, had to get used to it the first 2 nights else it's been absolutely amazing. 10/10 would recommend everyone to go here and would gladly go again if I come to Japan again! Very few things I didn't like.. It was only things that had nothing to do with the stay or the hotel - like the mosquitos when you went outside for a walk in the evening (that's the hit weather in Japan in September) or when it rained one day when we had to do laundry. Again this has NOTHING to do with the hotel or the stay, just life hahaha
- Mitchell (10/5): Traditional Japanese style hotel - very comfortable and relaxing with incredible staff. - This hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Kyoto. It is in a traditional Japanese style. Super comfortable and the host was always available via text to answer any questions we had. It is also very well situated, walking distance from the popular Gion district and many other amazing areas of Kyoto. In particular, the communal bath tub that is available by reservation was a highlight, making our stay extra relaxing.
The staff also went above and beyond for us - they returned a water bottle we had left behind by posting it to our next hotel in Tokyo free of charge.
A truly friendly, comforting and relaxing experience. Nothing!
- Michael (9/5): -
- Felipe (10/5): - Great location, kind staff and communication, comfortable. The shared kitchen is a plus.
- Daniel (10/5): Once in a lifetime experience! - - Historic property: decades old converted property
- Rooms are big and very spacious witj antique furniture.
- Owner is so kind and helpful with tonnes of recommendations and a very cute dog!
- In one of the most beautiful and traditional neighbourhoods besides 2 famous rivers.
- A short walk to the centre of Kyoto
- Great shower and amenities - Nothing, everything was amazing
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Rosalind (9/5): Would definitely recommend this location! A really nice place. We enjoyed the bathing facilities - Gorgeous room, great bathing facilities, lovely location. Nothing
- Martyna (10/5): - Autentyczne miejsce, wszystko super utrzymane.
Rien
- Lindsay (10/5): - A beautiful stay. We were very comfortable. The sheets were changed everyday and we got fresh towels. The water pressure in our shower was surprisingly good. You must be quiet to respect the other guests, but it contributes to a very peaceful and relaxing vibe. We’d happily recommend this property to anyone.
- Nancy (10/5): - This was the perfect place to stay for our four nights in Kyoto. It is located in a quiet neighborhood that is close to many dining options and sites, but also close to public transportation if you need to go further.
The building itself is historic and beautiful and the owner is helpful and friendly. When I asked about shipping our bags ahead he said to just leave them in our room with an estimate of the cost and he’d take care of them. He did and put the change in an envelope in one of our bags.
Also offered to run us to the train station, but we were leaving too early.
The only reason not to stay here is if you are a noisy group! The way the building is constructed you can hear people in other rooms. Not a problem for us.
- Pik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bobbi (10/5): Exceptional - Staying in a traditional building and sleeping on futons, loved the bath. Keihan railway was close by, train station also walkable. Lovely staff Nothing
- Lm (10/5): Great hospitality and traditional atmosphere - The hospitality was great, we were welcomed with warmth and the gentle host explained everything in detail. We enjoyed the traditional bath and the futons were very comfortable. We appreciated it very much when we came back in the evening after a very hot day outside and found our room fresh and cool. Thank you for everything!
- Christina (10/5): Wonderful traditional house - Air conditioning was better than you would expect. The beds were comfortable, and the host was super nice and helpful. The room needs to be dusted, and there needs to be a place in the shower to hang clothes so they dont get wet.
- Brenden (10/5): Exceptional - Clean. Very well taken care of home. The owner is very courteous and knowledgeable about the area. Always felt at home here
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (10/5): - This is such a beautiful inn! We were looked after so well and had such a comfortable stay. The bath is also excellent.
- Xiaofei (10/5): Exceptional - Great host and very comfortable place to stay for family of 3. The location is ideal and very quiet neighborhood. House was very clean and spacious. Host is awesome and makes us feel like home.
