• Harrison (10/5): Best hostel in Cairns. Super chill, clean and friendly - Really chill, clean, easygoing, met loads of amazing people. Staff are lovely, has a very calm vibe and easy to feel comfortable/at home. Location is amazing too just next to the esplanade etc. Will definitely stay again if I come back to Cairns :) Nothing. Would stay longer if I wasn’t leaving for work

• Ulli (9/5): I liked the location a lot and it was nice to have just women in the room. - The location at the waterfront is excellent, the staff is nice, the room keys are great, the kitchen is big with everything you need. 2 electric outlets on each bed, laundry room, I wish they had curtains on the bunkbeds and more hooks on the wall since there is nowhere to put your cloth. If you are on the bottom bunk you can put it under the bed. But the top people have to put their backpacks somewhere. The bathroom should not be locked so someone can go to the toilet while the other is showering.
• EMMANUEL (8/5): Good place to make some friends if you're a solo traveler. - I enjoyed my stay at Mad Monkey, really friendly staff and a great location. I would suggest putting a big sign at the main entrance, because it was a bit confusing for me to find the hostel, since it is next to several businesses and restaurants.

• clive robinson (4/5): I HAD TO PARK MY CAR AT THEIR OTHER PLACE WHICH MEANT WALKING AND CARRYING MY BAGS 3/4 KM, NOT GOOD - nothing much really the keyless access to the building and room took a bit of getting used to but then was ok. downstairs in the basement the smoking and non smoking TABLES were side by side (IS THIS LEGAL) PROBLEMS AT THE CHECK IN-I HAD 2 PHOTO I/D'S, AUST DRIVING LICENSE ALSO MY PHILIPPINES ALIEN VISA- BOTH CURRENT and they wanted a PASSPORT- I HAD NOT COME FROM OVERSEAS I WAS IN AUST. AND NOT GOING ABROAD WHY THE HELL WOULD I BE CARRYING A PASSPORT AND WHAT IF I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A PASSPORT ARE THESE GUYS FOR REALNOT GOOD
• Adrien (10/5): - I was looking for a quiet hostel (not a party hostel), and this one was perfect: peaceful both at night and during the day. It’s a smaller, more intimate place, which makes it easy to connect with others—I met lots of people from all over the world. Each dorm has its own bathroom, air conditioning, lockers, and power outlets for every bed. Another important point for me was cleanliness: you’ll constantly see staff cleaning somewhere, and everything is spotless—the rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas. And finally, the location: you really can’t be more central in Cairns than the Esplanade, and the hostel is right there. Many amenities are within a 10-minute walk, and the bus station is just 4 minutes away if needed. I stayed here for several months, and I know exactly where I’ll come back to next time ;)

Im Einzelzimmer war das Bett sehr bequem. Für eine kurzen Aufenthalt und Ausflüge eine gute Alternative. Ich hatte einen angenehmen Aufenthalt.

• Kurt (4/5): I wouldn’t go back here - The location was good A chocolate stain on the dunner well I hope it was a chocolate stain but that meant it wasn’t cleaned between the last person and myself, one toilet and shower between 8+ people saw people from dorm rooms come use the single rooms facilities no fridge or info about drinking water

The space was clean and had a lot of different amenities, I especially enjoyed watching TV in the lounge room/kitchen. Shut out to the housekeepers, they were extremely detailed and friendly. It is definitely a smaller, more homey vibe. Perfect for a laidback stay.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the common areas offer plenty of room to relax or socialize. I was especially impressed by how clean the in-room bathrooms were—everything felt fresh and well looked after. Overall, the facilities are very well-maintained, making for a smooth and enjoyable stay. I can’t think of anything negative to say; the experience was smooth from start to finish.

• Brett (5/5): A hostel that does the job but not much more. - Great location right in the heart of the city. Only a few shared bathrooms with single toilets and showers which was frustrating. Entrance hall was always stuffy and smelled of restaurant fumes. Communal space was not particularly appealing.

• Axis (6/5): Does the job but wouldn’t stay again - V good location and central For the private rooms - they are a bit like a prison with no light and personally feel like these should be cheaper for what you are getting compared to other places we have stayed. Also it is in an alleyway and every night at 4 or 5am there was such loud banging with the outside gates
• SimoneClash (6/5): - Good location, right on the Esplanade Staff very helpful and friendly (at least the ones i have interacted with) Wifi connection strong and stable pretty much everywhere Common areas like kitchen/living room and bathrooms always clean Showers had good water pressure and stable temperature A/C in the room working well and quiet After check out i left my luggage in the storage room and the guy at the reception let me stay for a couple of hours in the common room before going to the airport (thanks again, appreciated) I booked a private room, which smelled quite strong, possibly due to humidity and lack of ventilation (no windows that can be opened) It was pretty small but can do for a few nights. Almost no natural light, the mattress not the most comfortable as you can feel the sprungs on your back. It would be nice to have some racks or al least a chair where you can put your clothes (only a couple of hooks on the wall. Only a few common mixed toilets/showers (i counted 3) which often resulted extra waits considering the amount of people around. The worse thing that i experienced is the smell you have around the main external corridor and near external patio all the time due to various restaurants having their back door within the hostel premises and using a couple big rubbish containers, which smell bad and does not look particularly pretty. You see random people like restaurant workers, in and out to dispose of the rubbish or even their customers using the toilets coming through the back door. On top of the above, on my last night i was abruptly awakened by the rubbish track emptying the containers at 5am

• Mariana (10/5): - I had such a great experience at this hostel! The place was very clean and well maintained ,you can tell the staff really cares about keeping everything tidy and comfortable. It was also surprisingly quiet, which made it easy to rest after a long day of exploring. The staff were super friendly and helpful, always ready with local tips and a smile. The location couldn’t be better, on the main street, close to public transport, great cafes, night life and just a short walk to the main attractions.
• YU-HSUAN (10/5): A satisfying stay of my trip - The room was clean, and the kitchen was also clean and comfortable, and the location is really convenient, just besides the night market and esplanade! The staffs are friendly and willing to help :)) Such a good place to stay!
• Jade (5/5): Bit of a strange setup, wouldn’t stay again - Good location, free BBQ on the night we stayed (though we didn’t try it), big communal kitchen It was just a bit of an odd venue, the private rooms are out the back in a weird outdoor back alley, it felt really industrial and out the back of all the other hotels/ restaurants. There weren’t really enough toilets/ showers and our room was right next to the communal benches area so music was blasting until 11pm super loud, we don’t mind music playing until a cut off time but it was incredibly loud considering there was nobody even sat there

• Nancy (10/5): all in all the best time! - This hostel is great! I have been staying there for more than a month now and it’s really good! The place is right by the Esplanade, many stores and restaurants around. The dorms get cleaned everyday. It’s a smaller hostel, so it’s really cozy and quiet. The staff always made me feel welcome and helped me straight away when I needed some help. 10/10 nothing

• Coleson (10/5): Perfect quiet hostel in the best location - I worked for accommodation at Mad Monkey Waterfront and loved my experience! Everyone that lives and works there are SO nice! I couldn't have asked for a better place to live. Waterfront is definitely more chill than other Mad Monkeys in Cairns but that is what I like about it. Everyone is nice and chatty but will let you do your own thing if you want! I would definitely recommend!

• Katharina (10/5): Great place to live - Everyone who lives and works here is honestly so nice! I couldn’t have wished for a better place to stay. The Waterfront is definitely more laid-back compared to the other Mad Monkeys in Cairns, which is exactly what I like about it. People are super friendly and chatty, but also give you space if you want to do your own thing. I’d absolutely recommend it!
