Guest Reviews
- Jade (8/5): Very good -
- Arild (4/5): Disappointing -
- Francesca (7/5): Good - We had a room that was on the terrace, really small but ok for the really low price! Plus, the shower was hot :) The kitchen was really dirty
- Edward (7/5): Not bad - Decent enough location, friendly staff Needs a bit of a clean
- Regina (10/5): Exceptional - I think that for the cheapest price in the city the hostal was really good, wifi, comfi room, rooftop, hot shower, pretty dogs and kitchen!
- Sora (10/5): Exceptional - Staff, facilities, location are brilliant. Definitely, I will stay here next time. Nothing springs in my mind
- Leonid (8/5): Very good -
- Andrea (8/5): Great stay! - Location is a bit far from the zócalo (but less than 15 min walk)
Clean, mix of bunk beds and none which is nice, plenty of toilets and showers
Dogs and cats always bring a smile
There is always someone on site to help, even volunteers
The terrace The kitchen isn't great, the pots and pans are so worn, still usable but needs new things
- Abdala (8/5): Very good - Great location and the host is very nice and helpful. Good value for money
- Reto (9/5): Superb -
- Kristian (10/5): Fantastic budget hostel with everything you need near the city center! - San Pueblo is a wonderful budget hostel! If you can appreciate a no-nonsense, family run local business that provides complete, high quality, no-frills service, look no further! I was so happy to find this little gem in the treasure chest that is Oaxaca city! For my taste in accommodations it is absolutely perfect... I wish every hostel were like this! I stayed here for over a week and always felt safe and comfortable. The dorm room was quiet and dark, with a decent bed, clean bedding and spacious locker. The common spaces in this historic building aren't fancy but they are more than satisfactory: decent WiFi, cool murals, secure entrance, hot showers, clean bathrooms, a marvelous terrace and sitting areas, fresh drinking water always available, and a very well-equipped kitchen. There is no receptionist but there is a bell, the hostess responded immediately to a phone call when I arrived, and she was very easygoing about my repeated extensions. The location is awesome, just a few blocks from the central plaza with a beautiful view of the nearby basilica. All of this for such an incredibly affordable price... I was absolutely amazed! Furthermore, it's so nice to support a local, self-made business woman! The wonderful hostess Bris and her charming family are laid-back, hardworking, attentive to your needs, and generously offer to hold onto any luggage if you travel out of town for a few days. As a bonus, the family pets (hostel mascots!) are absolutely adorable and super sweet! I really can't think of anything that wasn't to my taste! Perhaps for some germaphobes who have left previous reviews, the cleanliness wasn't at a hundred percent or elements of the historic building weren't "pretty" enough. As a recovered obsessive compulsive clean freak who knows how difficult it is to renovate an old house, I consider that all of the installations are kept to high hygienic and aesthetic standards.
- Wellens (6/5): Great option if you're not expecting a party - Brilliant price, low occupancy, good location, hot showers and quiet. Pleasant staff No vibe,
- A.t. (5/5): Meh. - Cheapest we could find, and it showed. Paper thin walls, nasty sanitary etc. Very loud noice from cars driving by due to the open windows (as shown on the first pic taken from outside the hostal). Overall eerie feeling. Keys to the rooms were out in the open and unattended. Mediocre value for money.
- Sarah (4/5): Disappointing - Great location. Easy walk to the zocalo. It is very run down. The room was not clean and the drains smelt terrible.
- Zac (7/5): Good - Cool rooftop with nice view and hammock There was often dog poo and urine on the floor, which would stay for a few days, with a bad smell.
- Lizzy (4/5): Very basic but ok to sleep - The location was good, and it was cheap during day of the dead celebrations The room had no windows so it was extremely hot, there was a fan but there’s only so much that can do.
The bathrooms were ok but one shower was boiling hot and the other had super bad pressure. They also felt quite dingy and old.
There was limited space to chill out but the rooftop was ok.
It’s very basic so I guess that’s what you pay for.
- Victoria (8/5): Every effort made for guest comfort - The family does everything they can to make this a good hostel. Outlets and fans by every bed, free coffee and sometimes toast. Hot water every time, towel provided. Lockers. Responsive when things ran out. No bunks! Good kitchen and dining space. Great wifi. Clean (but dusty under bed). Helpful to an ill guest. My room was spacious. Near the ice cream plaza and cathedral and plaza of the dance. Great rooftop terrace. The family can't control the noisy neighboring businesses or streets or being on the edge of a neighborhood that is 'a little dangerous' according to taxi driver. Some rooms looked dark and cramped. Mattress quality varied.
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant - good single dorm beds central location and clean
- Maria (10/5): Very private and silent. Perfect for resting - Everything. Is really private. Nothing
- Wouter (5/5): Avoid if you are a light sleeper - The price was very good. The staff was friendly, but often not there? The walls are extremely thin, you hear the street noises and the people in the other rooms. The bathrooms could be a bit cleaner, too. The room didn't have any windows or other forms of ventilation.
- Lettice (9/5): Superb - Well equipped kitchen. Lovely roof area. Big dorm room. Each bed had a table and locker. Free drinking water. Nothing
- Ned (6/5): Completely different experience to the reviews we read before arriving. - Good location. Firstly, the facilities and room were super run down and not as the pictures seem.
Secondly, it has a really weird vibe. We were only people who stayed in the hostel for the 3 nights we were there, which I appreciate isn’t their fault, but made it odd. But then there was a random teenager who sat on the sofa outside our room and gamed until the early hours of the morning laughing and shouting loudly into his mic. He would then sleep on that sofa and keep the lights off all day the next day so whenever we came to and from our room it was in a corridor of pitch black darkness.
Overall, just a very odd experience and really different from what other reviews of the place led us to believe.
- Lisa (10/5): Perfect value for money - Very friendly host who could speak english. Comfortable bed. We got towels! Nice location near the center. Hot water in the shower. So far our best stay! Nice rooftop terrace and a cute cat! No window in the room. Sometimes a little bit loud.
- Primoz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Primoz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Süheda (8/5): Very good -
- Pénélope (9/5): Superb - Location, kitchen, were able to take a shower after our check-out time before leaving with a night bus
- Chris_aroundtheworld (8/5): Very good -
- Guus (8/5): Very good - Nice place to explore Oaxaca from. Close to a lot of things. But not the Ado station Could be some minor improvements with the showers and bathrooms.. And the ceiling in the room looked crazy. Rest is all very good. And staff is super friendly.
- Papi♥ (9/5): Superb - free water
morning coffee There were only four stoves, so it gets busy when there are more guests
- Mary (9/5): Thank you for welcoming ! Nice stay - Good location, good welcoming by family , clean rooms and facilities,
Usefull kitchen
Nice terrace /
- Reto (8/5): Very good -
- Jun (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (7/5): Good - Very simple accommodation but the hosts are very accommodating. Around 10 mins walk to get into the Center. Place would not be for everyone but we enjoyed our stay.
- Liza (8/5): Cheap and comfortable - Really good value. Internet worked really well, staff were friendly and they let us leave our bags for the day for free. It's nothing fancy but it's everything you need for a couple of days It's located outside of the main the historic area of town, but only about 10 mins walk. Again, it's pretty basic and probably not for everyone but if you're just looking for a cheap place to sleep, it's absolutely fine
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Janet (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - My second time here. Lovely family 😊
They have improved the dorm, four comfy single beds and one bunk bed, small socket lamps by the bed. The kitchen as well, moved downstairs and is better there. Free coffee 👍Nice roof teŕrace to chill.
- Yohana (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sébastien (8/5): Very good -
- Emmir (8/5): Good place to stay - Location stronger wifi
- Denise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Malou (7/5): Good - Nice staff, diverse & cute dogs, rooftop terrace, well equipped kitchen and close to the Zocalo. Not a lot of air circulation in the doorm. Plastic to protect the matrace make sleeping very sweaty.
- Seungyeun (7/5): Good - good location I was staying on the first floor
I hope the staffs clean the shower booth more often
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Raphaël (5/5): Passable - Terrasse and coffee in the morning No window for our room, cold shower, staff okish
- Maja (7/5): Nice place for the value - The location was great, very close to city center. For this price it was great value. Overall the hostel was clean, it had hot water, working WIFI so would recommend. Nice that owners let us wait with the luggages in the common space before&after checkout. The room was quite small, with squicky beds.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosanna (8/5): Very good - Really close to the centre, v good value and nice staff. It’s basic but has everything you need
- Max (6/5): Bad rooms and dirty place but good price and location - Nice kitchen and terrace. Good price. Good location close to most collectivos and the center Could not check-in early after night bus. Overheated cell-like room with bad, dirty shared bathrooms. Cockroach in our room. Kitchen was dirty. A lot of noise from the street (lot of traffic and the door is open) and the reception.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberly (6/5): Ok - Rooftop terrace was big and nice. Location not that central but easily walkable. Cheap price, but you get what you pay for. Really good hot water in the showers. Super noisy from the street. Blankets not very warm considering how cold it gets at night.
- Ramona (6/5): Ok - The hostel is very basic but ok for the price, close enough to the center (10 minutes), free towel, the rooftop, I could leave my luggage all day after check out till I got on the nightbus The bathroom sinks are on the floor, the lock in the toilet downstairs doesn't work, the kitchen was ok from size but I didn't cook/sat there because for me the kitchen was not inviting/dark, cleaniness could be better in general, especially the toilet downstairs was often dirty
- Iverzen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): Very convenient lication in el centro to all sites - Only coffee and water is served Sometimes the kitchen was being cleaned around dinner time.
- Frostyriding (8/5): Good value hostel in good location. - Location excellent, good value budget hostel. Nice roof terrace and kitchen. No window in room, bit cell-like but for budget was fine.
- Chiara (10/5): Exceptional - Its the cleanest budget hostel I have ever been to. The staff really cares about having aa clean comfortable place and I have seen them cleaning it multiple time a day. They were also super kind and flexible, allowing me to prolong my stay letting me pay for the added days when I did check out. the rooftop view is also very nice and the kitchen functional. Its a great, very comfortable budget hostel!
- Meltem (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adele (6/5): Pleasant -
- Adelina (8/5): Very good -
- Jon (6/5): Not your first choice hostel for Oaxaca City. Could do better - Kitchen and roof terrace. The Hostel is untidy with 2 dogs roaming around at will. The owners appear to use it for meals. There are notices threatening penalty charges for washing clothes in the sink. I checked out early to catch a bus and asked one of the staff about where to leave my key. When I went to retrieve my water and food for the journey from the kitchen fridge I found the kitchen was locked. I mailed the property but 2 days later I still haven't had a reply. Poor form. Need to up their game.
- Magdalena (8/5): Great stay! - Great location, very nice staff, hot showers and clean bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped they offer drinkable water and coffee. The beds are comfortable. There is big terrace on the roof, it's very nice with a cool view. The WiFi doesn't work very good and the walls are so thin that we could hear everything all the time. It's not very pleasant.
- Megan (8/5): Great budget stay! - The location was excellent, only a 10min walk to the main square and there was a great supermarket just a few minutes away.
The kitchen was always clean and had everything we needed. The bathrooms were cleaned everyday and the showers had lovely hot water!
The rooftop seating area was very nice to relax in the evening too.
We stayed in one of the private rooms, the room was small but fine for us. The walls were thin and one of our neighbours was noisy but we said it to the staff and they spoke to them for us and it was fine after that.
Would definitely stay here again!! We were here in winter and the temperature was fine with a fan but there is no A/C so may be hot in the summer.
The mattress was a bit uncomfortable.
- Dominic (10/5): Perfect and easy - Staff is amazing and helpful. I can't recommend them more!
- Devon (8/5): Very good -
- David (7/5): Good -
- Eva (7/5): Cheap - Cheap, great location, free purified water, good pressure & temperature within the shower Little run down place, dogs & cats are all around, cat is also sitting on kitchen tables, kitchen is not really inviting
- Harry (9/5): Perfect for a few days - Family run - lovely people. Nice terrace in a pretty good location. They gave us an extra key for the day we checked out so we could come and go before our 11.45pm bus which was sweet. Nothing, thanks for having us.
- Garazi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simone (8/5): Great value for money! - You can't beat the price! Staff was very friendly, nice atmosphere. Great rooftop terrace for chilling, good wifi and great shower temperature and pressure. The place is bit messy and dusty, but nothing too bad. The beds in the private room are a bit small and the room has no natural light or a bedside lamp so you are either in full darkness or white fluorescent light.
- Saana (6/5): Decent for the price. - The terrace hang out area was nice, wifi worked well. The place is a bit run down and could need some freshening up. Not a real community feeling.
- Jozef (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice staff super nice about me having a night bus the day I'm leaving and good atmosphere in the hostel.
- Keren (8/5): a great place and good value that you get for only 200 pesos. i recommend🙏🏼 - great breakfast
nice balcony
good location
caring warm staff the room got very smelly during the night
the kitchen closes at 10pm and there is no other place to drink clean water
- Sonia (4/5): not good - good position not clean, in the night was difficult to sleep as our room had a window we could close so we basically could hear everything, even the traffic in the street
- Marije (9/5): Super - The place was super Nice! We had a problem during our stay (had nothing to do with the hostel) they helped us so well! Especially the cleaning guy was very friendly and super helpful! And he cleans very good! No window in the room, thats the only thing I can think of
- Tobias (9/5): Superb -
- יקיר (10/5): Amazing - The hostel's owners were incredible!
Super available, nice and kind.
They let us check in at 6 am, even though it was supposed to be at 2 pm.
The location is perfect- at the center of Oaxaca, close to everything.
We are kindly recommending this hostel. Anything:)
- Neta (9/5): Superb -
- George (7/5): Good - Good location Messy kitchen
Staff play video games on phone all day
Toilets could use proper cleaning
