Guest Reviews
- Georgios (10/5): Beautiful and relaxing stay :) - The location was just far enough away from the busy Bocas Town it made it feel like we were on our own private island. Attractive rooms with the best view and an overall inviting aura. The thing that made this an 11/10 is the food and food service. Every meal was amazing and served with a friendly smile.
The lounge chairs on the deck made it hard to leave this serine location.
- Carla (10/5): - If you're looking to unplug for a few days, Aqui Hoy is absolutely fantastic!! Quiet, small, intimate with personalized service. Cathy was very hospitable & warm, plus she cooks all 3 meals AND is the bartender. Simply wonderful. Somewhat rustic but it was what we were looking for, if you want to enjoy the action in Boca, water taxi will have you there in 7min. But the water views, solitude and pure relaxation was great. We will absolutely return! We stayed for 2 nights just to get a feel for Bocas del Toro. There's so much to do near the cabins, but if you're interested in just relaxing THIS is a great place to do it!
- Kim (4/5): - Everything was a problem. The hotel didn’t tell us how to get there, so we had to figure it out on our own. They only accept cash for most things. Meals were overpriced and it is the only option due to location. Beds were uncomfortable, there were no basic amenities like shampoo or hot water, and we had to negotiate for cleaning services. The staff were nice but the stay was simply poor value.
- Lupe (5/5): Pretty place, run poorly - It's in a gorgeous, peaceful location. First off, you don't get an entire cabin to yourself. It's kind of set up like a duplex so there are people right next to you.
Then, we made an agreement with Katy and her partner (the boat driver) about where to drop us off back in Bocas town, and he didn't take us there and then lied and said he didn't have enough gas. We saw his gas container and it was full. We even offered to pay him more and he wouldn't take us to our agreed upon place, so we ended up shlepping our stuff across town and almost missed the tour we had scheduled that day.
They were extremely lazy in general.
- Carrie-Lynn (8/5): - Really enjoyed Katy and her family ! Meals were delicious .
- Cotiuga (8/5): Very good -
- Nguyen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (10/5): - Nice and private over water bungalow. 15-20 minute paddle board ride to the Blue Coconut which is highly recommended visit. You are a bit isolated and need to coordinate water taxi to get to places but Kathy was super hospitable, made great drinks on premises, Pina Colada was fantastic! She make a great meal and can do off menu options for more local options. Beautiful to hear the sound of the water outside your bedroom, dance in the rain and enjoy the solitude. Highly recommend for Isla Solarte and a unique experience!!
- Brett (10/5): Great! - The staff was great! Kathy and Natasha were great and on top of things! They really cared for us as guests! I may have assumed incorrectly but there was no AC in the units which because of the humidity made for a couple uncomfortable nights.
- Pierrette (8/5): we enjoyed our stay there, and Natasha did everything she could to make the food as wonderful as possible - The property is beautiful and the food is wonderful. The rooms are comfortable in the views are stunning. It’s a bit remote, which works in both its favor and against it in the latter where you swim was broken and was difficult to negotiate. It looks like it hadn’t been fixed in quite a while. The bugs are relentless and you really need to put nets over the bed since you don’t have any screens in any air conditioning.
- Armin (10/5): Happy - It was very nice and peaceful. Definitely the place to go to get away.
- Katarzyna (10/5): Very relaxing, quiet. - Great location, very good breakfast. It will be great if they can provide some kayaks and paddle boards (for small fee to rent). The location is fantastic, but not much to do on the property.
- Darryl (9/5): GREAT - The place is beautiful, inviter my brother and sister in-law they LOVED IT, their first experience in tropical paradise. The staff was great always ready to help. Just a great time will be going back. We could only stay a few days.
- Dr. (7/5): ENJOY THE VIEW AND SILENCE FOR FEW DAYS - dont expect great romantic atmophere and bring water - The location is amazing!!! and the bungalows are very well build on clear waters with interesting life!
We were allowed to sleep 2 adults , 2 younger kids in one doubleroom - which was nice- pay 15 dollar / night for a matress
This place really has potential but does not fullfill it. Im not completely sure if I would recommend it to friends
The guidance and pick up to hotel was excellent and Heiner communicate well on whatsapp :)
My recommendation - bring your own water and stay 1-2 nigths!!!! okay- this list comes with the perspective of the place being completely isolated and quite expensive for Panama:
- BRING YOUR OWN water if you dont want to drink tap . a water cost 5 USD / L here and comes in small plastic bottle. The hotel could invest in purifing systems , at least to serve water to breakfast :)
The atmosphere on the beautiful terrace is completely gone. No attendance to detail - e,g turn on lightchain, music or clean up from nights before . The kitchen is closed most of the time and between 17-19 , which means also the bar . With the few rooms it feel a bit abandoned. Im truly happy I experienced this place but also very happy to leave after 2 days. Its intense being isolated with no fridge , no free/cheap water and limited space :)
There is no room service and the feeling that you disturb if you ask.
The food is not something to remember . its just okay - burgers cost 16 , dishes 22 USD.
juice for breakfast has never seen a fruit
- Andreas (8/5): Very good - Location Restaurant is too expensive.
- Gordon (6/5): Quiet place right on the water, good for relaxing and not doing anything - The hotel itself is nice. There are two cabins with two rooms each built on either side of the dock, with a restaurant and sitting area in the middle. You're right over the water on a deck built on stilts. The room is big and comfortable, with nice sheets and towels and all of that. It's super quiet and dark at night so great for sleeping.
This would be okay if you want a place to relax and do nothing. If you want to visit other places in the archipelago it's inconvenient. It's much easier to get boats and organized tours in Bocas Town, but that's a ramshackle little town that's not for everyone. In general, I wouldn't recommend Bocas del Toro as one of the world's great beach vacation destinations. The snorkeling was okay there, but the visibility wasn't great and although there was some coral we didn't see a huge number of fish. There's not much to do from the hotel. You can't walk anywhere from there. Most activities in Bocas del Toro are on the water. The hotel has its own boat, maybe two, but it's a small place with at most 8 guests so it's not like there are organized tours. You have to ask, it takes a long time to organize, and it costs more than going on a group tour from Bocas town. The advantage I guess is that you get to say where the boat goes, the disadvantage is that the boat is small, doesn't have a cover, is operated by two teenagers, and you can't go as far or visit multiple places (or at least it would be expensive to do so).
Our rate included breakfast, but it's not much and there's no choice. You get a small fruit cocktail, scrambled eggs and a couple of pieces of cold toast. There are no options for lunch or dinner except the hotel's restaurant, and prices are very high, with mains costing north of $20.
- Ann (10/5): Aqui Hoy is a little piece of heaven. The staff are wonderful. You can see star fish in the water. - We enjoyed visiting with the staff, the food and the facility. One of the guests got really drunk and came into our room during the night.
- Ruben (6/5): Pleasant - Water and power outage
Water cabs will charge you more money because of the location
Late and repetitive breakfast/food
Not possible to regulate water temperature in the shower
Low value for money in accomodation/attractions and food
- Hilde (10/5): Amazing! My paradise in the south - Well taken care of from start to finish, amazing hospitality Nothing, it was just as perfect as if i would host it myself ;)
- Diana (8/5): Very good - No air conditioning
- Jennifer (5/5): Passable - no air conditioning and water taxis have tripled in price since last year. so location was not good for us
- Carolin (8/5): Quiet, relaxing place - Very nice bungalows, very quiet place, perfect to relax. Since the hotel only has 4 rooms, the service and whole experience is very personalized.
We booked a tour with Rod, one of the employees, and had a great time. It was a bit pricey, but in return we had a private tour (just the two of us vs. the tour boats with 20 people), and he made adjustments according to our wishes. Had a great time!
Unfortunately (but obviously not the hotel’s fault) there are TONS of sandflies because it’s so close to the mangroves, so at some point we had so many bites that we couldn’t really enjoy being outside anymore. So if you’re very sensitive to those kind of things, you might want to look for a hotel closer to town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We spent two nights at Aqui hoy and did not want to leave! David and Catherine were both so warm and welcoming. The location is excellent. Although you’re only a 5-10 Minute boat ride from town- it feels as if you’re staying on your own private island.
Catherine whipped us up the „special“ for dinner both nights and it was by far the best meal we’ve had in panama!
The snorkeling was fun too - just keep an eye out for those sting rays!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is secluded and has only four rooms, so is perfect for a nice relaxing holiday. The food was fresh and delicious and the owner was very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very relaxing, the owners are great staff is friendly, food is great, however, I wish there were more veggie or fish options. It's clean and comfortable. Overlooking the ocean, very nice way to end our trip.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - +Property is over the water. New construction.
-A
- Greg (8/5): - Nice hotel. A little isolated. Rooms need air conditioning.
- Tara (10/5): Delicious food great hosts! - The owner as well as his son and nephew were fantastic! It was secluded and the food was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend! We plan on going back next
Year!
- Robin (10/5): - Stayed for 3 nights and would definitely stay again.
The property is a 10 minute boat ride away from the main land. Water taxi ranges from $5 pp to $10 pp each way depending on time of day.
Breakfast was included with the rate. We had fresh fruit with an egg, toast, coffee or tea and fresh orange juice daily.
There is no air conditioning, but there is a fan that adequately draws in fresh air to cool the room.
There is no refrigerator or safe in the room. We kept a luggage lock on the bags during excursions and turned the second sink in to a quick cooler one night after grabbing a bag of ice and beers from the main land.
Aqui Ahoy has a restuarant (semi fixed menu) and full bar. Both meals we tried were fresh and delicious and the drinks were creative and refreshing.
The service was exceptional. The owner and his son are hospitable and accommodating.
