Guest Reviews

- Freedom2create (3/5): - Advertised as dog friendly, and when I went to check in I was told no pets accepted.
- Gary Cahill (9/5): - The owner and staff could not possibly if been more accommodating. The property and gardens.
- John (8/5): -
- Stella (9/5): Lovely stay - We loved staying in the cabin, having use of the kitchen, Free use of kayaks. The cabin was close to the lake. It is a short walk to the main road which is dark at night, but we took a head torch. The beds were so comfy, and both Byron and Antonia were so helpful. There was some building work happening, but we were informed and compensated for this. It didn't spoil our stay.
- Sarah (8/5): Lovely room but hard to get to at night - The room was well equipped, spacious and clean. The shower was hot and the bathroom nice. There is a wooden pier nearby with the most magical view of the lake. No one was there so it felt like a private pier! I really wouldn’t recommend this place to a young solo female traveller. It’s a bit hard to find once you get dropped off. You have to go down lots of little alleys. In the day it’s not so bad but at night none of the tuk tuks want to take you close to where the rooms are. And if you walk there’s a lot of dogs who aren’t as friendly at night. I was scared coming back at night a couple of times. But for an older seasoned traveller that wants a really great room next to a magical bit of the lake I’d actually highly recommend the place.
- Rob (6/5): Pleasant - The pier was nice Smell of mold from poor ventilation in the bathroom. No signs to find the hotel from the road.
- Owen (7/5): Good - The hotel itself was nice. The roads leading up to the property were in poor condition.
- Anna (4/5): Very quiet area with nothing to do - perfect to escape the busy world but not for me. - I liked how helpful the host was. He send a message via Whatsapp, telling us where the location is specifically and how to get there. He was also very responsive and was able to provide quick feedback. The kayaks were free for use! First of all, I was not very familiar with the area so I was not sure what it would look like. The pictures of the place were what got me hooked but I did not know that the Cobañas were going to be so far away from San Marcos. Taking the Tuk Tuks back and forth between San Marcos were ridiculous. They were charging us 25-30Q PER PERSON (because I was a foreigner) and one time, someone even tried to charge us 70Q per person. The Cobañas had a nice yard but the room was very dark, hot, and the bed uncomfortable. The shower pressure was very weak. It was really difficult to take a shower. The room had a notice that said it would take 3 minutes for the water to warm up but the shower still did not turn warm even after we ran it for 10 minutes.
- Georgia (7/5): Good -
- Emily (2/5): Worst hostel/hotel experience of 3 month trip - it’s a room with a bed in it….. (that’s pretty much it). The cleaner lady is very nice (and treated terribly by the manager who is in the US). Rude manager, doesn’t even live in Guatemala and makes his underpaid cleaner manage the property for him. I honestly don’t know what you are paying for here. Worst place I’ve stayed in over 3 months of travelling. Soulless, bad location, overpriced.
- Emily (2/5): Rude management, overpriced, soulless. - The actual owner of the property (who lives in the US and clearly treats his local cleaner very poorly) was pretty rude to me on the phone when I hadn’t been able to book for 2 people due to a glitch on booking.com and was trying to rectify it once I arrived. The property is hard to find if you don’t get dropped off by lancha, you have to walk through little alleys full of barbed wire and dog poop. It’s walled in by concrete and feels a bit like a prison yard, not a place to hang out. The kitchen is very dirty. Completely overpriced. Not close to cafes or even tiendas so good luck walking home after dark…
- Ben (1/5): Avoid - stay in San Marcos instead. - Nothing This is nothing like the photos:
Firstly its so hard to find and it’s not on the lake like the photos claim it to be. The area around is full of litter and rubbish.
Secondly there are ants in the room and bugs all over the kitchen and common area. These areas are not cleaned and the cupboards haven’t been cleaned in years.
Thirdly the grass area is not kept tidy - there were leaves and material all over the garden so it was not very nice area to relax in.
Finally the owner is rude, the front door lock broke when we stayed through no fault of our own and the owner has tried to charge us for it.
The place is in need of care and investment but the owner seems too lazy to improve the property which is a real shame.
- Simone (9/5): Superb -
- Farzad (7/5): Good -
- Delmy (2/5): - The property was very limited, noise fridge, only one toilet paper per day, bad coffee machine, not dishes we could use at all! Poor lady works too hard 7 days 12 hours daily! Not other worker on property! The owner sucks!
- Jeovana (6/5): - Staff communication was great to informed us about what needed to get done
- Maria (1/5): Bad - The dirt road is dangerous, there is no water, in the rooms there were spiders in the rooms and it's not what they sell on the internet, lousy, we had to leave the day before for the same reason, one night was more than enough 😡
- Dorcas (1/5): Horrible, ants crawling up the bed at night, kids crying. No view of lake or volcano. - Nothing The place was dirty full of spider webs with huge spiders all around and ants crawling up the bed all night long walking all around us. Very dusty. They didn’t have hot water or water to take a shower. No view of the volcano or lake like they show in the pictures. Also the reviews are from the owner. I don’t think they have had a real client write a real review. I have travel a lot to central and South America and stayed in the jungle and amazons and I haven’t experienced nothing like this with insects.I was traveling with small kids and they Werner really scared nobody could sleep well. This place advertise kids stay for free but is not true. I had to reach out to the owner for a refund but he refused to do it. He has poor communications skills and no costumer service abilities. Don’t waist your money and time staying in this cabins you can find much better places with the same money. The installations and yard is small and has a wall all around with no view. This place is not next to the lake you have to walk up the cabins.
- Melanie (8/5): Very good - Staff was really friendly and welcoming. Incredibly quiet area. Not the easiest to find.
- andrea (6/5): - Lovely Garden and dining room very very nice staff, bathroom wasn't particularly clean
- Dany (10/5): awesome and relaxing - clean, good service in the woods
- Mathias (8/5): super cute place - very cute it was windy the night I was there and it was very laid with the three branches against the roof
- Yolentha (7/5): Cozy private room and beautiful garden - Beautiful cozy private room, amazing private and quit garden close to the lake. Beautiful big shower. Perfect get-away from the business. And the bed was really soft. The shower didn't get warm which was a pity since it is such a nice shower. At night the location is not easy to reach because of the stray dogs on the road there. I missed an garbage bin in the room. And the sound which started at 5am in the morning from construction or something which was close to the property was terrible, but this might not always be the case.
- Jake (4/5): Unsafe and unclean - Not a secure location and I was alone in the hotel nearly every night as there is no employee who stays overnight.
The room was comfortable but the windows had no screens so the mosquitos and other biting insects were a nightmare. The restaurant was open haphazardly and was dirty. My room was cleaned only once during my ten day stay and only because I pled with the kitchen employee. In a country where toilet paper can't go into the toilet so sits in your bathroom trash can, having to empty your own trash can because no one cleaned the room was really disgusting.
- Bernice (2/5): - TERRIBLE TERRIBLE experience. This man is clearly scamming people and all positive reviews are fake. The rooms are stuffy, the toilet did not work, there is no wifi, no free breakfast, the shower stopped working after 2 uses. Run far away from this hotel!
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- Ivanny (10/5): Exceptional - The owner pays so much attention to his customers we felt at home right away
- Zaid (1/5): Worst hotel on Lake Atitlan - The town is okay. Nothing great to say about it. Worst hotel on Lake Atitlan. Plenty of other great places to stay. Had a really bad experience there with a poor host. Not heard great things from other people either.
- Jason (2/5): - We arrived and left the room it wssnt at all what they show in pictures we didnt even use it i hope some one carrs enough and i get a refund worst place ever
- Alysha (8/5): - Proximinty to the lake was great. Great olace to stay for an authentic jungle experience.
- Brenda (4/5): - La ubicación no es a la orilla del lago, y es muy complicado pagar con tarjeta de crédito.
Algunas fotos no corresponden al lugar
- Lissa (8/5): - Ligt heel afgelegen, hadden we niet verwacht.
- Andres (4/5): Advertising was misleading - The personnel where all courteous. Nevertheless, according to the listing, the place had parking (which it didn't) and the place was lakeside (which it wasn't). All of the lake pictures are taken from a public dock (sponsored by the hotel) that is maybe 200 meters away (with several properties within the forest in between). There is no view of the lake at all from the property itself where the rooms, restaurant and resting areas are.
The restaurant experience was quite poor. I ordered the vegetarian dish which just consisted of boiled vegetables with no attempt at seasoning them (no butter, salt, pepper, onion, garlic, etc. nothing!) which made it completely tasteless. So eating in was unappealing and the room didn't have a kitchenette so bringing one's own food was not an option. The closest restaurant was around 1km away so eating out was a bit of hassle, especially for dinner taking into account you had to walk in the dark through in a small trail within a forest to enter and exit the property.
All room pictures in the listing were from a very nice and elegant cabin, not from the room were I was assigned. The room were I stayed had no windows, just some wooden frames that opened but without glass nor screen so it couldn't get opened without having bugs come inside at night. So beside having no view and no natural light, it also had poor airflow, so it felt very claustrophobic like sleeping in a closet. Not what you expect from a place that advertises itself as lakeside!
- Marco (10/5): - Sus vistas experiencia única atención personalizada
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place is excellent. It has the most comfortable mattress I have ever had in this part of the world and top quality bedding. Beautiful decor. Nice staff who go the extra mile for you. Shower could be hotter, but everything else is perfect.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location was great, near the deck and the personnel attention was flawless.
- Brenda (10/5): a paradise in guatemala - excellent service the owners are such lovely people I would recommend this place to everyone
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's awkward to get to - go by boat from wherever then get a tuk tuk to the hotel. You will still have a 200 meter walk down a dirt path to get there but don't take a tuk tuk all the way there, the roads are horrible. The room I had was very nice but no restaurant so eat or bring food to cook and cash to pay for the room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location very authentic. 50m from the lake. No view on the lake.
