- Yustina Meiliana (1/5): -
- Veronica Lowe (3/5): Cold shower, one night of disappointment - The location was right near the water Women's bathrooms did not have hot water while the men's did, staff didn't tell us at reception when we checked in. Bathroom was appalling as the combined bath shower was flaking. Wish I'd taken pictures. Have learnt this standard is not usual in the country.
- Trevor (8/5): Great place to stay, fresh, tidy comfortable and great meals, ticked all the boxes. - Clean, tidy motel rooms, easy access to the pub dining room/bar area, top tier meals and service.

- Lauren (8/5): Excellent - the bed was big, the tv was working, there was a restaurant downstairs with a good variety of foods that were reasonably priced. there were a lot of kind staff. the music shut off fairly early (there was a trivia night the night I stayed) etc. room 25 didn't have an overhead light that worked and there were not any batteries in the AC remote

- Andres (6/5): Could be better - Friendly staff, There’s no cold water in the showers
- Sarah (2/5): - The room was clean and comfortable I'm not sure if I went on a bad night but I would not recommend any solo travellers. People were screaming and banging on doors

- Steven (8/5): Would definitely stay there again. - It was a room for the night and was good for us. Plenty of room etc. The DH next door being loud at night.
- Laura (8/5): -

- Anthony (6/5): It's an old charming pub, a little noisy but otherwise ok for a solo traveller overnighter - Room was clean and functional but very old. Shared bathroom clean but dated. Ok though for a quick overnight stay. Limited TV channels to pass the night, turned in early anyway so not really a big thing. You get what you pay for

- Margaret (6/5): Well-located, convenient accommodation with good pub amenities for a short stay. - It was a very convenient location by the river, and having a restaurant and bar on site, as well as entertainment like a trivia night and musical bingo was also extremely convenient. Free parking was also appreciated. The food the restaurant served was fine and the premises were well presented. We had to keep the curtains drawn in our room so others couldn’t see in. Some sheer curtains in front of the blinds would address this. That meant we stayed in a dark-ish room whenever we were inside. But the noise of the nearby generator was quite loud, as was the noise from the guest(s) in the next room. A thicker adjoining door would help with that. We could also smell smoke from the guest smoking at the table outside our room.
- Joop (6/5): Maatig, ik zou er niet weer voor kiezen - Er staat een luidruchtige compressor van de aico tot in de avond te draaien, een drive thru bottle shop voor de deur. Geen bordjes en bestek aanwezig.
- Mark (8/5): - Clean and comfortable
- Brett (10/5): -
- Robyn (8/5): -
- HDStripad (8/5): Good meal - Good pub dinner, friendly service, large menu and daily specials. The dining room overlooking the river is much quieter than the courtyard.
- Frits (8/5): -
- Matty (10/5): -
- Jyles (8/5): -
- David (6/5): Could have been very pleasant with a lot more care given to the accommodations area - Meal was great, bed and room was fair. The location overlooking the river. Only had 1 towel between us, shared breakfast/common area was terrible.
- Eileen (4/5): Wouldn’t go back - Dinner was good value The passage outside the room was dirty and full of full dirty linen trolleys. The bathroom fly screen had a big hole therefore I had unwelcome visitors and was bitten.
- Fogarty (6/5): Average - The bathroom facilities were old and not well kept. Pretty ordinary. Meal was great though
- G3947DKsharonj (10/5): Lovely pub nice meals - Lunch meal specials only $15 for brisket coleslaw chips.
It was so nice .
Air conditioned dining area overlooking the river
Lovely staff too

- T9476SPjeffs (10/5): Sunday Dinner - Very clean bistro and friendly bar staff. Easy to book a table online and very nice staff taking orders and serving food. The food was excellent and on the larger size, which makes good for value for money. Recommend this pub next time you're visiting St. George.
- Shane (10/5): - Good comfortable and clean room.. trucker friendly and very convenient with easy parking
- Frans (4/5): - Room was clean, but had a clear window right above the door with a light shining into the room the whole night.
There were no staff, but they arranged to leave the key for us.
- Barker (4/5): Awful...pub managers have obviously become greedy like many others in outback areas - A good pub gone to rack and ruin....no care for guests Disgraceful "so-called" room for disabled... woeful plus rubbish, storage immediately outside our door. Could not recommend for disabled guests
- Campbell (9/5): - Great food comfy beds
- Tanya (10/5): Comfy and quiet. - Location was great. Was able to check in late. Bed was comfy.
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Michael (8/5): - Clean and comfortable
- Tracy (8/5): -
- Elisabeth (8/5): - We love a pub stay and did enjoy our night there. But, cleanliness and simple stock was not a strong point. In the room, dead insects in the drawer and was set up for one (we were two). The tea room had no mugs or milk, and dirty glassware in cupboard. The shared ladies bathroom could be cleaned better. The verandah was not clean and had full ashtrays. The hotel is a classic art deco style and has loads of potential. Food was great as was the service and we would stay again.
- Ruth (4/5): - Was in a good spot near the river Very noisy
- John Attard (9/5): - Real nice place to stay... I couldn't stay longer ...
- Lewis (10/5): - all staff were very polite and helpful just about everything, especially the big Aussie breakfast
- Chris (8/5): - Good evening meal and the roam was quite a thought being close to the pub.
- Jody (8/5): Excellent value for money - Value for money Nothing
- Gabriela (6/5): - When my tv wouldn’t work the response from a staff member/manager was prompt . When he couldn’t make it retrieve channels I was after he generously compensated with a bottle of local sparkling wine. The hotel advertised free wifi. When I couldn’t watch ABC I followed up on iview on my phone but after 30mins received a message to say the wifi limit had been reached. Limit? Where did it advertise that? And who has that these days ? Hotel could provide microwave and plates/bowls/utensils.
Also the hotel food was disappointing. Good chips and salad but tough, tasteless and cold steak.
- John (8/5): St George on the Balonne - Good location, friendly staff
- Stephen (8/5): Basic comfortable room is great value for money. - Central location and good pub meals downstairs. The room was basic but comfortable with very good shared bathroom and kitchen and great value for money. Right by the river is great for a morning walk. Door to verandah did not lock properly.
- Alan (7/5): -
- Rajiv (6/5): - Very basic accommodation. The AC was so noisy. There is a window above the door so the lights from the hallway shine all night long. On the plus side, a great pub and good food.
- Gary (7/5): -
- Tara (7/5): Séjour agréable a St George - Rapport qualité/prix plutôt raisonnable. Pub sur place avec de quoi manger et boire, menu classique mais efficace. Chambre basique mais suffisante, literie confortable. La baignoire dans la salle de bain commune pourrait être remplacée par une douche. Chambre donnant sur le beer garden, assez bruyant.
- ellebella01 (2/5): Food not at all palatable. - Went for dinner, very disappointed, I had Patties with mash and vegetables? patties were very dry, potatoes pretty sure was instant, vegetables 2 halves of a carrot? Not at all palatable, Husband had Hamburger with the lot, bun was burnt, hamburger was raw overall a disgusting meal, would not recommend, I wanted to go and complain but Husband just said leave it, we ended up cooking a meal when we returned to our Motorhome. Waste of money.
- Solfrid Marie (8/5): Meget bra - Fin plass , hyggelig personale, god mat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Food was great accomodation was great just need the hot water fixed shower was cold and shower head kept falling down needs replacing
- OrderintheHouse (8/5): The historic Australian Hotel offered a good friendly atmosphere and I enjoyed a well presented rump steak meal here. - From 10 to 12 November 2024, I made a special visit to the charming town of St George, Queensland, 550 kilometres south west of Brisbane, to attend the Awards Presentation of the St George State High School on 11 November to make a presentation of a special award to a worthy year 12 secondary school student.
The School organised for me to meet this student and his family the night before the presentation, which was a nice gesture. The choice of venue the school chose for the occasion was the historic Australian Hotel, with its commanding location on the corner of St George’s Terrace and Grey Street.
The Dinner was held in the ground floor beer garden and quite a crowd were there enjoying a meal or a drink. It’s a pleasant area with lots of long rectangular tables and benches.
I enjoyed my meal which was a nice piece of rump steak, medium rare with chips and vegetables and Diane sauce. The steak came out medium rare and there were no salt on the chips as I had requested and it all tasted rather great. The beer garden provided a nice friendly atmosphere and I enjoyed the moment immensely.
I usually like to have a look around any historical Aussie Pub to get a feel for the hotel’s history, of which this hotel has plenty. Unfortunately it was not possible for me to do that on this evening. I learnt that the original hotel, vastly different to the one today but located on the same corner block was known as the St George Hotel and was established in April 1864 by a Dave Roberts. Over subsequent years it changed hands several times and during the period 1880 and 1881, when ownership was in the hands of Morice Goldstone it was renamed the Australian Hotel. In early 1939 the old hotel was demolished and a new Australian Hotel (the one still standing today) was built and opened on 15 November 1939 with over 180 guests attending the gala opening in grand style.
I was able to see the hotel in daylight the next day, courtesy of an excellent self guided walking trail brochure produced by the Balonne Shire Council. The Hotel has a pleasing exterior with its concrete finish. It would have looked modern in its day. Being on a corner block it has a boomerang shape. There is symmetry here with the features of the hotel along Grey Street the same as the features along St George’s Terrace. It is two storeys with accommodation and verandahs on the top floor on both the Grey Street and St George’s Terrace sides.
Other interesting historic buildings to admire along St George's Terrace, between Scout and Grey Streets and listed on the heritage walking trail included the St George Hotel (formerly the 1877 Tattersall’s Hotel) (present hotel built 1930); old Post Office (1864); the derelict Riverview Hotel (1916); and finally the Australian Hotel (1939). St George's Terrace is indeed a delightful promenade to travel on and is enhanced by running parallel to the scenic Balonne River and its parkland bank. The entire walking trail includes much more than what I have quoted here and is well worth being included on any St George travel itinerary – and if the mood takes you, why not call in to the Australian Hotel for a cold drink if you chose to be walking on a hot day.
Having come here for a Dinner I can also recommend calling in to enjoy a meal here.

- Sylvia (8/5): Comfortable and friendly staff. - Easy to register and locate room. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a drain odour in the room that was evident.
- Jeremy (5/5): Passable - The room was very clean and tidy We had no hot water, the shower head was taped on and leaked terribly. The food took over a hr, to be fair they were extremely busy but then came out wrong and cold.
- George (9/5): Superb - Apart from the Rock Wallaby or giant Possum clambering on the roof all night, it was good.
Staff were very friendly and attentive. Just need to address that noise emanating from the roof metal sheeting.
