Guest Reviews
- jodie (10/5): - The sisters that operate their bed and breakfast. We're so hospitable and their property is beautiful, unlike any place we have ever stayed before. We stayed here for a Lions game, the location is perfect. You can see the stadium from the window. Great location, beautiful property and the most wonderful owners. They cooked us a delicious breakfast every morning.
I wouldn't stay anywhere else if you are visiting Detroit, this bed and breakfast is five stars
- David (10/5): Great B&B close to everything! - Great location and greater hosts. Two sisters that run a bed and breakfast as it should be. You can sense the pride of ownership as you enter. Off the main streets making it quieter in the evening but still short walking distances to downtown attractions, including all three sporting venues. The smallest of details not overlooked right down to the homemade preserves for breakfast!
- Jenell (10/5): - This place is a total gem! We booked a weekend stay here for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, and let me tell you, they still can’t stop talking about it. From the warm welcome at check-in to the smooth check-out, my mom gave me the full play-by-play on how kind and professional the staff was (like, five-star concierge vibes).
The rooms? Super cozy and spotless. They loved chatting with other couples in the private yard. It gave off such a peaceful, homey vibe. And the breakfast? Ohhh, the breakfast. My parents went on and on about how fresh and delicious it was.
Final review straight from them: “I pray the owners get everything they deserve because they’ve created something truly special.” So with that, me and my husband are booking our stay next!
- Patrick (10/5): - The experience and service was great! Would definitely book again.
- S3641ZYbrianw (10/5): A Gem. - Our stay at The Cochrane was a fantastic experience. Francina greeted us warmly and showed us to our room, even though we were hours early for check-in, and the warmth remained across our two nights, making me want to move in and be best friends with Francina and Roderica. Rooms are cozy with ridiculously luxe appointments and fixtures and lovely toiletries. The common areas are beautiful and plush with gentle scented candles. And best of all for me, a jazz aficionado, mid-60s Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis playing softly. Out stay at The Cochrane was beyond memorable, and we greatly look forward to returning.
- Curtiss (10/5): - The staff were rarely seen, but everything was done immediately. This is the kind of place where the hospitality was so great, it made you feel guilty. The only downside was not enough bathroom space to lay out your hygiene products.
- danahB3764CS (10/5): Best expensive EVER! - Bar-none the best b & b experience in in 19 years! Husband & I came from the Thumb for our 11 year anniversary. These ladies are where it's at! Hospitable & kind....I can't say enough! Breakfast was off the hook!!! Very clean. The entrance & entire main floor is so welcoming. We were made to feel like family 💗
- William (10/5): - A very comfortable and relaxing hotel. We had a calm and restful time here. It will be our great pleasure to stay at The Cochrane House again soon.
- Rachel (10/5): - Lovely ladies, beautiful place! Perfect location!
- Matthew (10/5): Delightful Detroit Home - An incredible place to stay! The hosts are so welcoming and they made the best breakfasts. The home is very cozy, luxurious and it's nearby everything. Would definitely recommend!
- Brittany (10/5): - Perfect stay for our weekend in Detroit. Lovely owners, great room, and perfect location.
- Joseph (10/5): - What a perfect location
- 420thereses (10/5): The Cochrane House was one of our most favorite Bed and Breakfast stays ever - We had the most fantastic stay for three nights at Rica and Cina’s Luxury Inn. We were greeted by both ladies upon arrival. The house, beautifully restored, had everything we needed. The breakfasts in the morning were cooked to perfection and different every morning. There was a coffee machine available 24/7 along with water bottles and snacks. Anything needed was answered immediately. We ordered some of the add-ons which were perfect – chocolate covered strawberries, a birthday cake, and even s’mores makings. The room was spacious, the bed was so comfortable, the lighting was great, had a huge TV. The bathroom’s steam shower was great. The location was so easy to get to and parking is so easy and included. If you ever need to go to any sport event or concert, their place is right there. We will definitely visit again and look forward to visiting Detroit another time.
- Adonica (10/5): - A wonderful stay, breakfast was amazing and the staff are as sweet as could be.
- Michael (10/5): - This was our fourth stay. At this point, Rica and Cina feel like extended family. Why stay in hotel when you can experience a historical Detroit mansion that has been lovingly updated and remodeled. Walk to any sporting / music event and wake up the best breakfast ever. 100 stars.
- Renee (10/5): - The property is absolutely gorgeous. I love the fact that two sisters run the business. Upon arrival, we received a very friendly greeting and a tour of the bed-and-breakfast. Will definitely stay here again.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Enjoy the epitome of hospitality at TCH - We came to Detroit for a concert and TCH was such a treat to stay at! The location is within walking distance to both the Lions, Tigers and Little Ceaser arenas. The sisters have mastered their craft of hospitality in every meaning of the word. This was our first bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at and they have set the bar VERY high. Would absolutely recommend staying here!
- Jaclyn (10/5): - Great building, very welcoming and clean. Large room with comfortable bed. Steam shower is awesome. Very walkable to Ford Field, Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, Fox Theater, and the Fillmore. Would definitely go again.
- Lisa (10/5): - First time at a bed and breakfast. Definitely will stay here again.
- Kirsten (10/5): - Beautiful property walking distance to Comerica Park and Ford Field. Rica and Cina are super helpful and friendly. Breakfast is delicious! The bathtub is fabulous!
- Amanda (10/5): - The Cochrane Luxury House was stunning!
From a warm welcome into such a beautiful atmosphere, the sister's couldn't have made our stay any better! The breakfast they made was amazing as well. We will definitely come back to stay again, and we highly recommend staying here.
- Erika (10/5): - Beautiful historic home with wonderful owners. A experience.
- Therese (10/5): - The two sisters that own and run this B&B are amazing. Their house is beautiful and so easy to walk to all the sporting and music venues. Great bars and restaurants in the area. Our breakfast both mornings were delicious but OMG that Compote!!
- 432robbie (10/5): Amazing B & B Experience - Sometimes you find the perfect match - fabulous owners, fantastic accommodation, excellent food - all three came together at the Cochrane House, Detroit! Owners Rica and Cina are simply the most kind, hospitable, funny and generous hosts and they have done an outstanding job on renovating and decorating their lovely historic home. It was spotless and smelled divine. The lovely sisters cooked delicious fresh breakfasts each morning and joined us at the table for such lively and interesting conversation which was a highlight of our stay. Our bed was super comfortable and the bathroom rain head shower, fantastic! Forget about hotels, Cochrane House is the place to stay! We'll be back for sure!
- swarmbrunn (10/5): Birthday getaway - I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding experience my husband and I had during our stay at the Cochrane House in March.
From the moment we set foot inside, it was evident that this establishment is truly special. The attention to detail and the evident love and care invested in every aspect of the house did not go unnoticed. Our room was impeccable, and every part of the house exuded warmth and hospitality.
The welcoming atmosphere created by the owners made us feel right at home, and we were truly touched by the thoughtfulness extended to us throughout our stay. And I must mention the breakfast - it was absolutely delightful and truly added to our overall enjoyment of the experience.
Unfortunately, our visit had to be cut short unexpectedly. However, I wanted to assure you that we are looking forward to returning to the Cochrane House in the future. The outstanding service and the remarkable ambiance have left a lasting impression on us, and we cannot wait to come back.
Thank you once again for providing such a wonderful retreat for travelers like us. We will definitely be recommending the Cochrane House to friends and family looking for a memorable getaway.
As a side note, please do not leave without purchasing the room scent. I regretfully made the fatal error of only buying 2.
- Jeff (10/5): - We enjoyed everything about our stay here! The food was excellent, the building was beautiful and meticulously kept, and the hosts were amazing! Communication was excellent and prompt, and the hosts were just the right amount of available. The location allows a very short walk to Ford Field, Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, and plenty of other businesses and restaurants. We will definitely stay here again! Thank you for a lovely weekend!
- Diane (10/5): - We couldn't have asked for a better location for the hockey game. The location was walkable to downtown restaurants and all sporting events.
- David (10/5): memorable experience - From being greeted with warm smiles to when we had to leave, the hostesses made our stay wonderful with a very refreshing enthusiasm. Although the building was beautiful and charming, the pride, professionalism and genuine concern demonstrated by all outshined the physical charm of the structure. They set a standard that all in the hospitality industry would be wise to emulate.
We highly recommend treating yourself to a memorable treat by spending some time at this gem.
- Tim (10/5): - The property is amazing!! Rica and Cina are so friendly and accommodating! We will be back and tell everyone about our experience!
- Shawn (10/5): - Great location to all of the stadiums. Very quick walk. Safe on site parking. They let us keep our car there the day we left while we were at the game. Beautiful newly remodeled space. The sisters are very friendly and inviting. Breakfast was fantastic!!
- Eric (10/5): - The property was great! Clean, good sized room and bath. Very friendly and a great experience
- Anthony (10/5): - Clean and friendly
- denise (10/5): - amazing staff
- Cody (10/5): - Rica and Cina were both wonderful. Breakfast was amazing, their recommendations for food as well as places to visit and ways to get around town were great. They were very polite and helpful and I would definitely stay with them again!
- Lynn (10/5): Outstanding Place and owners! First Class - The owners were so welcoming and accommodating. I feel like this was the most personalized, hospitable place I can recall ever staying at. We plan to have more trips to the Detroit area- whether we go to another Tigers game, or downtown for fun and sightseeing and this will be our Go-To place to stay!
- Danielle (10/5): - We felt welcome the moment we walked into the building. Parking was easy, super easy walk to Little Caesars Arena for a concert. We will definitely be back.
- Jake (10/5): - Beautiful bed and breakfast. The hosts were amazing. Quiet area and an easy walk to stadiums and arenas. Would definitely recommend! 5/5 stars!
- Michael (10/5): - This is our go-to for any event at Little Caesars Arena. It's only a short walk to the Cochrane house. The home is elegantly beautiful and the hostesses are as sweet as they come. This is our second stay and it won't be our last. My ONLY complaint is that the bed, while a full King, is in a futon frame, so my wife has to climb over me to use the bathroom at night.
- Wilmalinga (10/5): HISTORIC ELEGANCE AT ITS VERY BEST !! - If you are looking for a first class, elegant, beautiful experience in Detroit, skip the "brand name hotels" and come to The Cochrane House. This Luxury BnB is the place to stay.
Located in Downtown Detroit, but on a very quiet street (private parking included), within walking distance of major sports and entertainment venues along with a variety of restaurants and museums being close by.
The epitamy of elegance. An architectural gem. Attention paid to details. Themed rooms, insanely comfortable beds and bedding, each room is your own private suite. I love the spa like bathroom with a free standing soaking tub (handmade bath salts) and walk in enclosed shower occupying the same area. The exposed brick only lends to the integrity of this historic home/inn. (circa 1857).
The common area has an open concept. They ladies kept the original hardwood flooring and the space is impeccably decorated. The warm colors, books, baskets, eclectic art work, masks, the many textures, fabrics, strategically placed is both soothing, calming and pleasing to the eye.
I found it so cute that Rica and Cina were apologizing for not having taken down Christmas decorations ( it was a couple days after Christmas..Ladies ..please...its BEAUTIFUL!!!)
However, none of this would be possible were if not for the vision of the owners Rica and Cina, the James Sisters (and the work ethic instilled in them by their mother
"never give up on your dream").
From the moment you drive up, their smiles, their willingness to make you feel not only welcomed but more like a family member immediately puts you at ease. I've heard these sisters can "throw down" in the kitchen, however, my schedule would not allow me to stay and indulge but I definitely will on my next stay.
Ladies, thank you for the hospitality, thank you for letting everybody know Detroit Michigan is a great city to visit, and the COCHRANE HOUSE is the best place to stay.
Highly recommended.
- H4655XXdenisec (10/5): Don't sleep on this B&B - Best hotel in town! 10/10 would recommend. Owners are super friendly and accommodations are luxurious. Breakfast was great, neighborhood was very nice and located .2 miles away from fors field and comerica park. Great location also! I will never stay anywhere else in Detroir!
- denise (10/5): - Where do i start? The owners were fabulous....friendly, accomodating, helpful, etc. Made to order breakfast is delivered daily to your door. Ambience of the house is great! They did a great job modernizing the home while maintaining its historical uniqueness. The B&B is less than a quarter of a mile away from Ford Field & Comerica Park in a super safe neighborhood. I will legit ALWAYS stay here when i visit Detroit in the future.
- Kazoodog (10/5): We had the best time ever - This is a luxurious stay for anyone attending an event downtown. Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena and Ford Field are all within view and just a short walk away. Yet it is on a quiet peaceful street and you have a private parking lot. Rica and Cina greeted us warmly with a delicious charcuterie board. Our suite was like out of a fashion magazine. Love the decor and all the extra touches. We went to The Who concert which was a blast and afterwards walked back in a matter of a few minutes. Breakfast is gourmet and my wife and I each got to make our own selections. Try the grits. This is a unique property that will not disappoint you.
- Cory (10/5): - Great place to stay in Detroit! 5 mins away from ford field in walking distance!! Friendly people and top notch luxury at it’s finest! Will book another room in the future!
- Grant (10/5): - Magnificent, thank you
- Symone (10/5): A glorious visit - Wonderful, wonderful stay. Cochrane House is such a gorgeous property central to everything I wanted to explore in Detroit. The owners, sisters Rica and Cina, were lovely. They communicated thoughtfully via text and in person and were so warm and welcoming. I plan on visiting again and encourage others to do so as well. I felt safe, I loved my room, the breakfasts were delicious, and the welcome charcuterie board and homemade bath salts were just the perfect touch.
- 460PeterB (10/5): Treated like family - We found the best place for us! We grew up just north of Detroit and have lived on the West Side of the state for 40 years. We take the time to do Detroit vacations because it is a wonderful place and there is plenty to do. This time we found the Spirit of Detroit at the Cochrane House Bed and Breakfast in the guise of Rica and Cina. We loved our stay. We could walk to Little Caesar's Arena for a concert one night and a Red Wings game two days later. Walk to Cliff Bells for a night of jazz and awesome food. Walked to the Shelby Speakeasy for a drink and then took the Q line to eat at the Baobab restaurant. In between time to go to the Cranbrook Institute of Science and meet up with friends. A truly wonderful three days and everyone of them started with a great breakfast at the Cochrane House and family conversation with Rica and Cina .
- Aleatha (10/5): - We stayed here to be close to Ceasar’s Arena for a concert, and were not expecting to be blown away by the welcoming hosts, beautiful decor of the building and room, and all the lovely small touches. It was so nice to see this building restored to such grandeur!
- annarborite10 (10/5): Luxurious stay with wonderful tub and bath salts! - My husband surprised me with a night here to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We were only coming from 45 minutes away in Ann Arbor, but it was such a treat! The owners greeted us at the door and made us a lovely plate of cheese and crackers, which we enjoyed with wine in our room. They were incredibly welcoming and we felt right at home. My favorite part of the evening was soaking in the deep tub (I think we were in Room 3; not sure if all the rooms have tubs), with house-made bath salts. Breakfast the next morning was not exactly healthy, but it was decadent...I recommend the biscuit. This is a wonderful alternative to all the big hotels downtown and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a more personal experience. Because of Covid, breakfast was delivered to the rooms, but I would have enjoyed talking with other guests in the cozy living/dining area, too.
- Mary (10/5): - The property is absolutely awesome!! There is not a thing wrong this property!!
- ETCook1 (10/5): A Birthday Surprise for the record books!! - My wife surprised me for my birthday with a weekend stay at The Cochran House! As we pulled up, the owners, Francina and Roderica James (owners), were at the door waiting for us. We were greeted with their warm smiles and served charcuterie and sparkling cider in our beautiful room. The interior of this beautiful home is filled with black artwork and beauty throughout the establishment. Sunday morning, we could smell the aroma of our customized breakfast being prepared and then brought to our room. If you want to get away, please check them out. We will definitely be going back!!!!
- Dan (10/5): - The staff here are INCREDIBLE! The place was clean, Neat, & well organized. Definitely recommend.
- kimberlypF2512OA (10/5): A Detroit Gem! - We stayed overnight at The Cochrane House and had a fabulous experience from the time we opened the door to walk in. The place is exquisitely decorated the room service was superb and the staff were personable, paying attention to the slightest of details and they were very patient with us when we locked ourselves out of our room.
- Jyllian (10/5): - The Cochrane is a beautiful modern bed and breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hospitality was Awesome
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The house was beautiful and clean and so luxurious! The food was amazing and the personal service from staff far exceeded my expectations. I was greeted by name upon arrival which gave it such a personal touch. There are also many restaurants and activities within walking distance. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again.
- 474cliftonc (10/5): Excellent Getaway - The Cochrane House is a perfect escape from everyday living. The owners make you feel at home with a warm welcome with food and drinks. The rooms are modern and luxurious which make it feel like home. The location is 2 blocks away from all the arenas. The is the best bed and breakfast in the city of Detroit.
#thecochranehouse
- Arthur (10/5): Great stay - The Cochrane Inn is run by a pair of wonderful sisters, Rica and Winky. I arrived at the Inn way ahead of the check-in time and was exhausted due to the longhaul flight. They offered me complimentary breakfast and accompanied me while I was waiting in the lobby.
The room was clean and comfortable. This was my first time being able to fall asleep on a hotel bed without the help of melatonin pills!
The Cochrane Inn is truly a magical house to me! Thank you for the awesome stay once again, Rica and Winky!
- Verified traveler (8/5): デトロイト的、快適なinn。 - 快適な滞在でした。ただ、周りが空き地だらけで、人通りがほとんどなく、夜は女性は少し怖いと感じるのではないでしょうか。
- Debbie (10/5): Nice place! - This is a great little B and B in the heart of downtown Detroit! It has only 3 rooms so it os very quaint! We loved everything about to except the bed. It is a queen bed, but not a traditional bed it is more like a day bed. So it is only open on one side. Whoever is on the inside has to climb over the person on the outside. I really did not like that. The breakfast was nice and the hosts were super sweet and friendly.
