- JoY353 (10/5): Highly recommended - Just returned from another fabulous holiday at EPM. We have visited this hotel many times before but keep returning because it never disappoints. It has all the ingredients for a successful holiday - lovely beach, great pools, good food, fun entertainment but above all the fantastic service from the staff who work tirelessly and for whom nothing is too much trouble. I would particularly mention the Guest Services Manager, Jacqueline Zacarias, who ensures that your holiday is perfect from first to last.
- Da_Gar-man (10/5): The Best of the Best!! - We have traveled to no fewer than 50 all inclusive resorts and this one is right at the top! From arrival to our departure everythin was wonderful, especially the employees. Our arival and departure bellman, Doroteo, allowed us to see the quality of the resort management, he was so friendly. The Club level staff on the beach and pool went above an beyond, Rogelio, Jesus, Edgar and especially trainee, Aldo couldn't have been any better with their service. I must recognize Gina at the French restaurant, also Antonio and Julian at the Mexican restaurant. There are so many other from hosekeeping to the balance of the empoyees I need to give a BIG Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Gary
- PeggyB237 (10/5): Visit 15 and Excellence is Still Wonderful - We visited Excellence Playa Mujeres in November. This was our 15th visit to EPM and our 27th to an Excellence Resort. We are big fans of EPM because of the people who work there. We have come to think of them as family. We were so happy to see Jacqueline, the Guest Services Manager, when we arrived. She always makes our visits so special. She and her concierge staff go out of their way to take excellent care of all their guests. We were in Building 8 overlooking the ocean and EC pool. This was not one of the rooms that had been refurbished but it was in good condition. Housekeeping does a wonderful job of maintaining the rooms and cleaning daily. We spend our days at the beach and love the beach beds they have. You do have to get up early to get one, but we love watching the sunrise at the beach. They are comfortable and keep the sun off when needed. Service was excellent at the beach all week. Special thank you to David, Yeuldiel and Sulley for making our days at the beach so special and to Yessi for keeping the drinks flowing. We went to the spa for hydrotherapy and massage. The facilities are lovely and relaxing. Thank you to Ignacia and Florie for a wonderful experience. I suggest going to the spa when you arrive to make your appointments if there is specific timing you are looking for as it fills up quickly. When we were there, they wanted us to pay with a credit card at the spa even though we had put a deposit for incidentals when we checked in. We did not have a card with us and eventually they said they would charge it to our room. Since they take a $600 deposit, I don’t understand why we would need to pay on top of that at the spa. We are not really show people, but we did enjoy the Legends show and we always enjoy Claudia Trevino’s show. We like when the violin player or saxophone player are in the martini bar or out on the plaza. We didn’t have any bad meals although it was disappointing to see the way the menus have been limited from prior trips and some of the meals we look forward to are no longer on the menu. I’m not a fan of standardizing the menus between all their resorts. It makes each location less unique. With that said, we enjoyed meals at Spice, Oregano, Agave, Lobster House, Basmati and Chez Isabelle. Our favorites were Basmati and Chez Isabelle. Thank you to Sergio at Basmati for choosing dishes for us and creating a lovely dining experience. Pedro at Chez Isabelle made our evening very special. I would love to see the restaurants go back to paper menus. We look forward to our next visit.
- bryangF2423RW (10/5): Excellence Playa Mujeres Fantastico - We had the most amazing time!! The people who work for Excellence are top-notch! We must mention Jesus at the Excellence Club Beach. He made our day and was so attentive taking care of all our needs. Floricel kept a cold drink in our hand the entire time we were at the beach and he was so fun! Josue taught us some Spanish sign language and cleared a spot for us at the beach when needed. He worked so hard clearing towels and making the beach space look great. Arturo at the omelette station at The Kitchen Table buffet was so smiley and made the BEST breakfast. And Josue at the Building 9 Excellence Club pool was so kind and a joy to visit with. Our room was great. The grounds were perfect. We will definitely be back!!!
- bradleyhN2256AS (10/5): Wait Staff - Above and Beyond - My wife and I came here for our honeymoon and have had amazing service from every place we have been to and anything we wanted/needed was brought to us. Some of the people that made our Wednesday at the resort so enjoyable were in the following locations. These people we watched work so tirelessly at their job and be attentive to everyone in their area. Lucy - Poolside Kevin - The Grill Jorge - Kitchen Table Jorge was initially our waiter for breakfast and another guy took over, we loved having Jorge each morning.
- allanjd2020 (8/5): EPM in early March - We have been coming back every year to EPM since 2019 and what brings us back is just the welcoming atmosphere and the excellent service and friendliness of the resort staff. Early March is the right time to go since the weather ranges between 75-85 with little humidity and the sargassum is not an issue. Location: EPM has the benefit of a wide footprint so there are plenty of room on the beach and off-the beach. You never really feel crowded in unlike other resorts. This particular week, the resort was at 50-60% occupancy most likely due to media coverage of the violence in Puerto Vallarta. Cleanliness: rooms are cleaned daily, resort property (walkways, buildings, pools, beach areas) and all landscape are well maintained. Rooms: The negative is the poor lighting and small mirrors in the bathroom. We heard that they were updating them but the building we were in is not scheduled for an update till July. The other negative was our bed and pillows were very firm which is why I rated sleep quality as average. However, the rooms was spacious and we had the benefit of a swim up suite so the balcony was larger due to the inclusion of a deck with a large sun bed. The mini bar had good size liquor brands, beers, water bottles and snacks. A/C worked well keeping the room at 70 deg F. Restaurants: Plenty to choose from although some are not open at particular nights. We are not foodies but we liked The Grill for their choices of steaks, Basmati for Indian Cuisine, Magna (Excellence Club) for overall quality. Our lunch favorites were Lobster House and Oregano. Breakfast was a toss up between Kitchen Table and Lobster House. Favorite bar was the Martini Bar for pre and post dinner hangout. Evening entertainment was ok usually with a live band or performer, followed by a show although some are getting dated with Burlesque show, and Michael Jackson/Freddie Mercury Legends show. We did see some new shows added including a dance battle between classic dancers vs break dancers, and a DJ show with a violinist and trumpet players, but that one was a big mess. If we there was one thing we would like to see EPM implement is an "enforced quiet section" at the beach where couples like us can enjoy a book or relax to the sound of waves and ocean breezes, can be segregated from the large groups of loud friends or chatty couples who just ramble on with their stories all day long. People should be considerate but for some reason, spatial awareness is lacking.
- Extraordinary310701 (6/5): Loyalty is a one way street - We have stayed at Excellence properties for our last several vacations so I would guess you could say we are loyal customers. The Excellence properties are beautiful, well-kept and the staff is friendly and hard working. We had an issue with our trip this past February that I would like to share. No fault of Excellence but due to weather issues our flight to Cancun was cancelled not once but twice. It forced us to leave one day late for our vacation. As soon as our flight was cancelled we contacted the hotel to let them know. Upon arrival I enquired if the hotel could extend our stay an extra day to make up for the day we lost. They did not offer a refund for the day we lost (which is not what I even asked for or expected). They said they would have to charge us $1050 if we wanted to stay an extra day. Important to note that the hotel was not nearly full the day we lost or the extra day we were asking for. After discussing this with two different desk people and not wanting to get upset during my stay I decided to wait until I arrived home to write the corporate office to see if they would offer a resolution. I wrote to explain the situation upon my return home. I was given an inquiry ticket number with a statement that I would be contacted within two week. They have never reached out to address this issue. I am not blaming Excellence for the weather and what it caused. I guess I was expecting a reciprocal loyalty that I have shown toward them. Their position would be totally understandable if there was no room at the Inn or if the property would incur extra cost by accommodating us. A no-cost resolution was at their fingertips to satisfy a loyal customer. An issue such as this should not be bounced around from administrator to administrator. Too easy to solve from this customers perspective. I share this to caution anyone who may expect problem resolutions from this company if an issue should arrive during their stay. Loyalty is a one way street here.
- K3820RUstevel (10/5): 4th time at EPM - Still love this place, BUT there are some changes I'm not a huge fan of, but definitely first world problems. We first stayed here in 2016 for our 10 year anniversary and were blown away by the service, the quality of food, and the 'feel'. It felt like a sanctuary for relaxation and pampering that included amazing dining options, whenever you wanted. Staying this time for our 20th anniversary, we noticed small changes since 2016 that slightly lowered the quality. There is no longer an option for a lunch buffet. The Kitchen Table only does a breakfast buffet (which was very good) but converts to a la carte for lunch. We found lunch at the Kitchen Table was terrible. Terrible options, terrible quality. I ordered the chicken sandwich and the chicken covered maybe half of the bun. Clearly EPM is making efforts to cut costs and increase profit. Also, the last 3 times we stayed, staff would go throughout the swim out area and clean the deck areas of towels and drink cups. That does not happen anymore and I believe they have cut staffing. Another problem was at dinner, if you tried to go eat before a show, it was inevitably a 45-60 minute wait to get a table. We ended up having to eat at 6pm or 930pm during the showtime in order to be able to walk up and get a table in a timely manner. Final complaint, we were offered the complimentary Anniversary package which included a 'special dining experience' in a restaurant of our choice that included a 'complimentary bottle of wine'. We chose the Lobster House and were seated in an excellent spot. However, the special dinner included a single rose in a glass at the table with a small metal sign that had a piece of paper inside that said "Happy Anniversary". It literally looked like they dug it out from the bottom of some drawer and wiped the dust off it. The server then came around with the "complimentary bottle of wine" that turned out to simply be the cheap Don Silvestre house wine. He made a production out of it and put it on display like it was a 100$ bottle of wine. This was silly because this is the same wine that I could order 10 glasses of if I wanted to at any other time. Having said all that, these were indeed first world problems. The room was beautiful, the food was great everywhere other than the Kitchen Table, and the service and staff were amazing. Oh, and this resort is no longer the hidden secret it once was. A few times there were a few loud, drunk, and obnoxious groups in the swim out area near the spa which was frustrating. But hey, they paid a lot of money too and are allowed to have a good time. Special mention to Rogelio around the swim out rooms. Absolutely amazing service and such a nice guy. He was incredibly genuine and grateful for the tips without ever seeming like he expected one. Will certainly return to the Excellence brand but may try the new Coral resort next time.

The Asian restaurant was the best and the bartenders are really good. TripGuy.com did a great job of booking everything so you didnt have to lift a finger on your vacation or leading up to it.

He gave great recommendations and was incredibly entertaining to chat with. Floricel was our waited on us by the beach. His upbeat nature and party attitude and us all having a great time! On the days Jesus wasn’t down by the beach, we were equally well taken care of by Edgar! He has the most joyful smile and kind energy. He could turn any frown upside down! Rubi was our wonderful waitress on these days. She was quick, attentive and knew how to get you what you needed while you relaxed. Our rooms were stunning and meticulously cleaned daily! We enjoyed most of the entertainment and events, the gym, the restaurants, the coffee shop, the bars and all of the spots as most people have outlined in reviews on this platform. We absolutely loved the Entertainment team with special mention to: Natalia, Gabriel, Kevin, Angel, Alejandro, Alesandra (the baby), who made all the activities so fun. Also loved our sunrise Yoga and Pilates with Tanya. Favourite drinks were from Cesar at Martini bar because he used enough alcohol to make the drinks taste good. Favourite meals were at Grill, Oregano (delicious blackened chicken sandwich and salmon filet) and Spice (sushi was amazing, Tepanyaki was okay too). Loved Zumba in the pool and the bike tour was fun. Enjoyed the crafts, but wished there were more sessions for crafts as the chairs filled up so fast. The resort was clean, the staff was so attentive and friendly and we so appreciated not smelling cigarettes on site anywhere. We appreciated the room cleanings and the turn down service every night, too. The evening entertainment was always so impressive - We enjoyed it all. The most amazing night was Mexican Fiesta. The food and entertainment were simply top notch and completely over the top. I was so happy we booked this trip for our birthdays/anniversary as a family. We came home super happy and raving about the Excellence Playa Mujeres.

I actually plan incentive trips for work and have researched hundreds of all-inclusive resorts over the years- and I can honestly say this one is hard to match. There were 11 of us in total, and every single person thoroughly enjoyed their stay. After spending a lot of time researching and planning where to celebrate, your resort exceeded every expectation we had. The Imperial Suite with the private pool was definitely a splurge for us, but it was worth every moment. The space was beautiful, the amenities were fantastic, and it quickly became the heart of our celebration. We spent so much time there laughing, relaxing, and making unforgettable memories together. The weather was a little on the chilly side during our visit, but the heated private pool absolutely made the trip and allowed us to enjoy the space every day. The drink service at our private pool was fantastic, and we spent many hours there celebrating together. There were so many little moments throughout the trip that made it unforgettable: - The beautiful balloon bouquet, what a gorgeous surprise walking into the room to find that! - Your staff singing Happy Birthday to me at the pool and bringing over a Happy Monkey drink was such a fun surprise - We loved the daily treats like champagne and charcuterie - Enjoying brunch in the room (including the floating breakfast) which was such a unique experience. Some of our favorite memories included karaoke with friends, dancing together at the silent disco, and even trying headphone Zumba. Your beach staff was also wonderful, making sure our entire group could sit together so we could all enjoy the ocean and spend time as a group. What stood out just as much as the beautiful accommodations was the incredible service. Everyone we encountered was so kind, welcoming, and attentive. Your team truly made me feel like a princess throughout the entire stay and went above and beyond to make my birthday feel special. There are always a few staff standouts who deserve to be mentioned. Miguel Angel-We met several years ago, and he still remembers that my favorite mimosa is passion fruit and that my husband wants habanero sauce on everything. He is amazingly attentive and just a wonderful person. Manuel-He is so thoughtful and always goes above and beyond. He transported us to ECPM and is such a considerate person. Jorge at Excellence Club Bar-He is so knowledgeable and puts on an awesome show. His ability to make pouring wine a performance is awe-inspiring. If you are lucky enough to have a bartending session included with your suite, he’s a true mixologist and can find anyone a drink they will enjoy. Cesar- He always makes delicious drinks and finds time to make you feel special. Jackie-She is such a caring and kind individual. You can tell that she truly cares and goes out of her way to make everyone feel seen. The reason we find this place so endearing is because of the people above. They make EPM feel like home each and every time we go.

Our only "complaint" was that we had to ask to have the mini (plunge) pool heated when we wanted to use it because the weather had been cold the couple weeks prior to our arrival. To name a few of the many…..Wendy in housekeeping, always a smile and a stellar job well done. Oscar and Roman, two of the best bartenders I’ve ever seen. Quick and good. Amazing. Alan the waiter in Oregano. A great addition to any meal. Anyi, would remember and bring you drinks before you even knew you wanted one. She was fabulous. Jacqueline who looks after all your customer service needs was always around, hunting us down to see what they could do for us. She went out of her way to meet every one of our requests. (We were there for a month so we had a few). The resort is beautiful, kept so by the many people attending to all the greenery. Everything’s is fabulous at this resort. Restaurants are great, pools are great. Look at the pictures on this site. JUST GO. You will feel better and be glad that you did. Remember, you will not be treated any better at ANY other resort. Period.

We stayed in a junior swim up suite back near the lazy river. This room type was incredible , it offered privacy with ease of access for a quick swim. Not to far down the river is a bar and poolside service is also available throughout the day. The room temperature was very comfortable for being in the ground level and all staff work incredibly hard and are extremely friendly. This is one of the cleanest properties I’ve ever been to. The service is incredible you feel spoiled. I’ve tried every restaurant besides the one included with excellence club and the variety and quality of food was amazing. This isn’t a party resort but that doesn’t mean there is any lack of activities. There are plenty of short activities to be involved with throughout the day. If you are looking for some relaxation , amazing service , great food and great drinks this place is for you. The beach front of this property is large and there seemed to be a private spot for anyone to hangout no matter where you were on the resort. We enjoyed it so much we booked with another excellence property for next year to try their different options. I have a feeling we will be back at this resort! When you arrive you are greater with “Welcome Home” which I can’t wait to hear again after spending a week there!

I did not drink the water I was very careful. I have emailed management 3 times asking for some type of refund and it has fallen upon deaf ears. It was a very expensive trip, one missing out on all the food beverages and events for 1/2 my trip. Something to consider before booking this place. Plus, we were locked in my brother’s room for 40 minutes. They had to break down the door to get us out. Look elsewhere plenty of beautiful places nearby!!

- jessik162 (10/5): Amazing resort, book the trip!!!! - We started coming to Excellence Playa Mujeres in January 2021 and were so impressed with it that we have returned each year and after many failed attempts to find anything else as nice as this resort we now have added extra trips to come twice a year. Most recently we visited the end of January and I am continuously amazed, just when I didn’t think I could fall in love with this resort any more I do. I am instantly overcome with happy tears when I walk through those beautiful wooden doors, so grateful to experience a place this beautiful. From the minute you arrive you are greeted by warm smiles that continue throughout your entire stay, I have literally never seen so many smiling, happy faces, that just instantly brighten your day! From the managers, Miriam, Victor, Jacki, Leslie, Ruben, Veronica, and Grecia always walking the grounds, checking in with all the guests on a regular basis to make sure everything is going ok to every staff member you encounter when you are walking around the resort, it is such a positive vibe. The grounds of this resort are immaculate, the staff work tirelessly every moment of the day to make sure every detail is taken care of. Every morning we were greeted at breakfast by Daniel and Antonio at lobster house or Alan at magna who were so cheerful and really set the mood for the day, they even remembered what we liked from past trips, little things like this just make a guest feel so special. Throughout the day we were well taken care of by the concierge staff headed up by the amazing Josue, the entire team Edgar, Sully, Jesus, and David was top notch and we wanted for nothing. The wait staff, Floricel, Alberto, Yessi, and Isabel kept the drinks and snacks coming and kept us entertained! Now let’s talk about restaurants, I consider myself sort of a foodie and I will say I have never had a bad meal at Excellence Playa Mujeres. The great thing about an AI is that you can order many different things and explore new dishes, I was never left hungry. I am sad to say I didn’t catch the name of all of the amazing restaurant managers but Josafat at the Grill, Eduardo at Agave, and Gloria at Spice, wow, just top notch!!! Now no evening is complete without drinks and a trip up to excellence club lounge to see our amazing friend Jorge, we joke that he has a camera in the stairway because he will have your drinks made before you come through the door, he is seriously a true gem, then you have to finish off the night with one of the famous Cesar’s espresso martinis (well the hubby does, I’m a tequila girl)!! As my husband once said to me there is sand and palm trees anywhere, what keeps us coming back to this resort is the staff and their overwhelming kindness, the staff at this resort has become like family and they make each and every stay so memorable, I am so grateful to each and every staff member for taking such good care of us. I know I am leaving so much out of this review and probably forgetting a few staff members, I blame that on the amazing waitstaff for keeping the yummy drinks coming! In closing life is short, book the trip, be prepared to become addicted and the only way to get over the sadness of leaving the resort is to book another trip!!

The Excellence club swim-up suite is my wife and I's favorite room category with proactive wait staff and friendly concierges. We used to only go once per year, but now have been two trips per year. The most important thing that keeps up coming back is the excellent staff. They are very warm and friendly, ensuring all of our reasonable requests are met. I can't thank them enough!!! Management leaders Miriam and Victor are very attentive and responsive to all aspects within the resort. Guest services Jackie is and has been fantastic in handling any issue or request we have had. We miss Vilma as food and beverage manager, but her successor for Leslie has impressed us with her outstanding charisma and attention. The bar manager Rueben is a fantastic gentleman, he definitely goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is awesome. This man works so hard, I personally want to thank him. Now his bartenders have a special place in my heart too. Jorge in Excellence club is a fantastic person who always makes me laugh and smile. He makes my cocktails with perfection, but more than that he is just a wonderful guy who I consider a friend. I don't want to leave out Cesar at the martini bar, who is a legend in his own right. He is very lively and makes a perfect espresso martini. Our mornings would start on the beach with a cheerful greeting from one of the beach concierges. Josue, Sully, Jesus, David, and Edgar who ensured all of our needs were taken care of throughout the day, also can't thank them enough for scheduling events, taking care of all issues. Then we would get breakfast at either Magna, where Alan would make us laugh or Lobster house where Antonio and Daniel would take excellent care of us. Beach service is excellent and I want to specifically thank Floricell, Yessi, and Alberto for the excellent service and hard work they put in taking care of us. I am leaving out so many others who are deserving of praise. The house keeping staff. grounds maintainers, maintenance, reception, and bell hops all worked hard to make the resort nice and our stay worry free. Lastly, Season's Transport always gets us to/from airport without issue. Thank you all for what you, we love the resort.

The service is just fantastic, the location and access to the water (beach or pool) is primo and the facilities are in great shape for being over 15 years old. Are there quirks to the light switches in the room? Yes. Could the food be served warmer/hotter? Yes. Could they give us steak knives to cut red meat? Yes. But you quickly forget all those things because it literally feels like paradise. Loved the activities everyday. The entertainment was good or very good most nights. The pickup and dropoff from the airport was convenient and comfortable. Def recommend coming to this resort. We'll be back again!

- NorthDallasTraveler (8/5): Valentine's Weekend at the Best Resort in Playa Mujeres - 1st thing 1st, I'm so glad that Sully (Beach Concierge) is still there as she provides the best Excellence Club Beach Service. We have known her for at least 2 years now and she still finds a new way to make us smile and make our trip memorable and enjoyable. She is a great artist as you can see from the goodbye towel art and definitely a reason why we choose this resort. Now the other reasons are that this resort has a great beach, great food, great service in all areas from sports bar to bell boy, great people, great rooms, great everything. The only thing is that you have to be careful when you go as Valentine's weekend was during the peak season for all the cold states/countries tourist and because it was Valentine's Day so it felt really crowded this time. So much so, that we constantly changed where we went or hung out at because large crowds who act like they never been nowhere kept messing up the Atmosphere. Or for those who frequently travels, it seems you got the crowd from Breathless and Temptation for a few days before returning back to normal. Nevertheless, this resort is too nice and you will definitely enjoy and we will be back and bring some family that we know could use this type of great Atmosphere.

The level of service is truly one of the reasons we return year after year. Overall, we had another wonderful trip and absolutely look forward to visiting again. However, we would like to share some honest feedback regarding one recurring issue we have experienced. There seems to be a disconnect between the room amenities that are advertised and what is actually provided upon arrival. We intentionally select and pay more for specific room categories because of the listed amenities. Unfortunately, each year we have experienced inconsistencies in what is included. This does not seem consistent across your different resorts, which makes it even more confusing. For example, our room category clearly listed a private Bali bed on the beach as an included amenity. This was one of the primary reasons we chose that specific room. However, we were informed that it would not be provided. We even printed the website listing this time to ensure there was no misunderstanding, yet the amenity was still not honored. We completely understand that guests value different features, but when amenities are clearly advertised as part of a paid room category, they should be provided. What was most disappointing was not just the amenity itself, but that there was no attempt to accommodate, explain, or offer an alternative solution. We share this feedback respectfully because we genuinely enjoy your properties and want to continue returning each year. We simply hope for more consistency and alignment between what is advertised and what is delivered, especially when guests are paying a premium specifically for those inclusions. Thank you again for another beautiful stay, and for the incredible team members who made it memorable.

The room was excellent, clean and lots of space - please see other comments on privacy etc, it didn't bother us too much but I can see how it would be a concern especially when one of you is sleeping and the lights come on! I originally booked the hotel as they had great vegan menus in all restaurants with a range of different options. However I think they changed the menus prior to our holiday and it was quite repetitive in all the restaurants which was a shame for me. However staff were knowledgeable and would always make sure the waiter knew I was vegan. Staff are what makes this place so amazing, they cannot do enough for you. The Sports Bar staff were absolutely fantastic. Manuela and Johnathan you were wonderful and made our last night very special!

- d0c0705 (8/5): Excellence from the Start - Amazing way to start a trip dealing with the Airport into a nice single SUV for my wife and I to enjoy a private ride to the resort, with a nice pairing of Champagne when we arrived. Each day was filled with excellent service, Amazing views and great staff. The one exception would be a bit around the food, it was just above average and not spectacular as I had hoped, but the drinks and quality people more than made up for any experience.

With wait times at restaurants slow almost all nights, they clearly need more staff and please don't want to have a good time after 11:00 b/c their "nightlife" in the "sportsbar" was less than entertaining. If you're over 60 this is probably the best place for you, but if you would like to have a good time after 11 or be entertained at the pool probably look some where else.
- snap2026 (10/5): Paradise - The Excellence is a wonderful place to go and relax and get pampered. We tried almost all of the restaurants - all food was good. The room was amazing and room service was delivered on time, hot, and wonderful. All staff was super friendly and willing to help. We did not do the club room as it was more expensive and didn't regret it. We were still very pampered. The only difference is we had two less restaurants to choose from (but we still managed to eat at 5 different restaurants). The only thing that was a little annoying was having to get up at 7 am to reserve chairs on the beach (if you wanted front row). Otherwise everything was great!

All thumbs up! - We are fortunate to have visited Excellence Playa Mujeres for 9 days in February 2026. We have visited Excellence El Carmen - Punta Cana D.R. for the same February weeks in 2024 and 2025. This is our first trip to any Excellence Resorts in Mexico. We booked an Excellence Club swim-up room, Bldg 9. (9051). Our trip details are below. TRANSPORTATION Non-Stop RT: BOSTON to CANCUN We booked SEASONS airport transfer, excellent, on-time and friendly service each way, similar to our previous Dominican Republic vacations. ROOM We did get the room that we booked. Ready for us when we arrived at 4pm. We liked this room. It did have a musty smell, on occasion, as others have also reported. This ground floor end-unit was quiet, but the pool was great for relaxing, drinking, sunning and socializing with our neighbors. We had mosquitoes or “no-see-ums” in our room many nights. Lots of bites. No fun. I’m assuming that this is to be expected with ground floor rooms. Floors 2 or higher probably see much fewer mosquitoes. Bring your anti-histamine lotion. Pool-side service was attentive and frequent. Shout out to our Excellence server, Damian, and to Aldo who managed the Excellence Club Booth at Bldg. 9 Pool. Aldo and Damian both took great care that we had anything that we needed by the pool, and everyone else at pool-side received the same attention. Pool temps were fine, with the weather warming each day we were there. True for Bldg. 9 pool and Main Pool. (Very busy each day through the afternoon). BEACH No red flags. Some sargasso on the beach and in the water, but never severe or smelly. Further north (left), past the next Finest resort, the beach fronts on a golf course, instead of another resort. Much more seaweed here. There is a line of buoys, maybe 25 ft offshore, that kept people from venturing out to deep. The Excellence Club beach service was also well served by attentive staff. We can recommend Jesus, Josue and Angel. Each of them will be certain to promptly handle any requests that you may have. MEALS Meals were fine overall. We liked most everything that we ordered. Our favorites were Agave (2 dinners), Magna (2 dinners) and Chez Isabelle. We also had two great lunches at Oregano. The Kitchen Table - buffet breakfast had a great selection of Mexican dishes. Especially liked the sopes. SAFETY There has been a flare-up in violence in Mexico since we returned. Understand that Excellence in Playa Mujeres is in an enclave of about 10-12 resorts scattered over several miles of beach (including Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres). Armed security to get into this enclave. Additional security is present at the entrance to the Excellence resort. SUMMARY We chose Excellence Playa Mujeres with some hesitation over our safety. We are glad that we chose this resort. We stayed on property except for one long day visit out to Chichen-Itza (wonderful!), and cancelled on a second long day visit to X-Caret (next year?). Our primary reason for this February vacation is for relaxation, sun, good food and drinks, and escape from New England winter. All of our needs were met, and the Excellence staff provided a next-level quality of service and attention that delighted us every single day.
- kbradus (8/5): Lovely Stay BUT....... - My husband just stayed at this lovely resort for the second time. It had been about 10 years from our last stay. It was worth the wait except for the quality of the food. We were disappointed at several of the restaurants. for example at The Lobster house, my lobster tail was overcooked. I gave it a second chance and had the Mahi-Mahi, once again charred on the outside and too dried out to eat. We ate at the Grill 2 times as well and it was quite tasty. We loved Aroma fo coffee but also took out a ham and cheese sandwich, all I could taste was bread and when I opened it, it had the tiniest piece of ham and an even smaller piece of chess. The lettuce was old and brown/black on the edges. Disgusting, I threw it out. Chez Isabelle, the french restaurant, we were quite excited to go but also disappointed. I ordered the duck and it was a color I had never seen with duck, more of a greyish brown color with a heavy fat layer. I took one bit and cold not finish as it was awful. Honestly, we had a good meal at Oregano. The breakfast buffet was great. We also enjoyed Los Olmas, as it is more of a light lunch fare and doesn't preten to be something it is not . The appetizers were very good. Please Please Please improve your quality of the food served especially for top notch all-inclusive. I also found the drinks to be watered down. : (

One area that need attention in the quality of the food served. For a high quality all-inclusive we found the found at best underwhelming. Several times our fish was overcooked and dried out. I got a sandwich at Aroma and the lettuce was rotting and black (not acceptable).My dick at Chez Isabelle did not resemble any duck that I have ever had and was very fatty. We both found the drinks to be watered down. Our favorite place was the Grill and Los Olas . I sincerely hope the quality of food is improved. Also, more seating needs to be made available near pool area, We had to get up early to get down to the pool area as most seats taken by 8 am.

Lucy, Leslie, Diante, Brandon, Daniel, and so many more were attentive and helpful. They went above and beyond to care for us. The entertainment (especially Claudia!) was quality (though a bit risqué one night). The food and drink was outstanding and everywhere has at least one item that stood out. Agave is the gem, though. Aroma has outstanding coffee and ice cream—it was delightful. The fitness center (yep, I used it) had quality cardio equipment. The grounds are immaculate and the housekeeping is frequent and quality. This place was paradise.

- JFortunate (6/5): Excellence Playa Mujeres - Hot tubs= not hot or even warm. Weather was cold so wanted something to warn us up. No go Room A/C would not turn off and we froze each night. Room phone did not work and had to ask twice to fix. Missed out on room service half the trip. Food looks better than it tastes, but not bad. Not restaurant quality more equivalent to cruise food. Staff is outstanding. Grounds are beautiful. Resort is well maintained.
- Expedition573488 (8/5): Nice adults only option with a top notch staff and above average food options. - My wife and I are Excellence Club members. This was our first time at the Playa Mujeres in Cancun. The trip from the airport takes about 45 minutes. I highly recommend paying up front for the Seasons transportation. Check in was seamless and since we are Club members, very personalized. We booked a rooftop suite with the private plunge pool in building 7. This building has a nice ocean view if you select it, and its own private heated pool for Club members. Building 8 has the same set up, but also has a well staffed bar. Our room was VERY clean and well supplied with 4 bottles of name brand spirits and a mini fridge that was well stocked. The staff at this resort is at the very top of our well traveled list. Always smiling, very attentive and they constantly asking if there is something they can do for you. If you have a concern or an issue, they are extremely quick to resolve it. The restaurant choices are very good, there is only a breakfast buffet, which is nice. Most resort lunch and dinner buffets are poor quality. This resorts provides multiple lunch options with well portioned food choices and obviously as much as you want. Now the average stuff. The nightly entertainment is medium quality for a resort in this price range. They use the same traveling show options as other resorts in the area so they don't provide a higher level of adults only feel. The shows are definitely set up to 'please all' so they come off as family friendly. In room TV is limited as usual for Mexico resorts. They do have HBO and a few news channels, you'll have to use the SAP function in reverse to get them in English. If you are a steak snob or know how to cook an excellent steak yourself, don't order steak here. I well keep this nice, but the cuts are poor and the chefs DO NOT know how to cook a proper steak. All the other food we tried was VERY good. Now, the take it for what it worth stuff. The salt and pepper shakers are laughable, tiny holes that are endlessly clogged. Just pull the rubber plunger out of the bottom and cover the hole with your thumb. Otherwise you'll look like a dork shaking the crap out of it for nothing. The toilets are almost laughable in their design. I will keep this as nice as possible, if you like seeing what you deposited stuck to the back of the bowl even after you've flushed, you're gonna have a great time. Overall this is a great resort with a wonderful staff and pleasant experience. We recommend it.

Spice was our favorite restaurant! The beach was beautiful and private only to the other resorts. There were many advertised "hot tubs," however they were not even warm. We like to go to bed early and get up early, so did not participate in the nightlife. We stayed in building 7; the music was so loud it was difficult to fall asleep. The room also had weird motion sensored lights. When my husband got up in the middle of the night, the bathroom light would go on automatically. We talked to the front desk, took there suggestion to turn the "zzz" button on, but the light still went on.

- R2047BMkimd (4/5): Room and food a dealbreaker - We booked a 20 day stay for our 30th anniversary direct through the excellence website with a platinum rate that includes a room upgrade. When we inquired at checkin why the upgrade had not been provided they made excuses including they didn’t have us listed as platinum members (platinum rate?!) and that 9 nights was a long time. So, staying longer and spending more money makes us less worthy? We were told we could request a move in a couple days. We were shown to our room in which the balcony literally faced a Wall. We were very disappointed. When we asked again for our upgrade we were told if they could find something we would have to move not once, but twice. Who wants to spend their vacation constantly changing rooms? They did not get back to us to solve the room issue so we had to stay in one of the worst rooms I have ever had at a cost of close to 1K per night. We then spent the first 5 days trying to figure out how to adjust the shower which only provided HOT water. By the time we realized the problem was not user error, I did not want to waste my time trying to have it fixed. The poor quality liquid soap provided in the resort is like baby soap so bring your own bar if you want to feel clean. For obvious reasons our showers had to be very short. The room had several light sensors that turned on the lights when you got out of bed and they stayed on long enough to ensure you and your spouse would be completely awake. While the bed seemed comfortable, the pillows were so huge we could not get comfortable. I requested standard size pillows from the front desk and received pillows that were even bigger! All in all, the execution of our reservation and our room was a total fail. The positives of this resort are the employees. Friendly hardworking wonderful staff. Plenty of towels and bottled water. Poolside pizza and coffeehouse both excellent. Resort very clean. The special event meal on Wednesday (only) at agave restaurant was the best and only great dinner we experienced in our 9 night stay. We have stayed at excellence resorts in Jamaica and Mexico in the past and have been very impressed with the food but Not This Time unfortunately. Many popular items have disappeared from the menu including sea bass and creme brûlée. The steakhouse no longer lists any fish on its menu. Many of the seafood items (clam chowder, crab cake) at lobster house also have ham in them so not suitable if you’re a pescatarian. The items that have survived have been cheapened/simplified and prepared ahead so they cannot be changed. What used to be fantastic tortilla soup became canned tomato soup (campbells) with some avacado garnish and round tortilla chips thrown in. Many items are deep fried and reminiscent of fast food. They have replaced the creme brûlée at chez Isabelle with pudding on top of phyllo. The escargot appetizer is really 2 escargot and 2 mushroom pieces cut to look like escargot. The cheese (think nachos) has been replaced with a velveeta like substance. Coconut ship is no longer. Lunch at oregano seemed like leftovers from the previous days kitchen table meals. I understand the resorts are now under new management and it shows. They have also decreased the entertainment quality and quantity making silent disco a prime time event instead of something to do after the headliner. The live singer, Claudia Trevino, pretends like she’s taking an honoring requests live but the requests are impossibly the same 4 songs every time she performs. Jolene, landslide, Whitney Houston. Crazy but true! We felt like everything at this resort is fake, trying to masquerade as what it once was. Even the large bar next to the theater area is fake. You cannot order a drink at it and all of the high end bottles of the shelves are Empty. Why excellence, Why?!?!

The staff is extremely friendly and attentive, the resort is SO clean and organized, the food was excellent. We were able to try all of the restaurants except the excellence club ones and they were all great (kitchen table breakfast buffet, agave, and oregano were our faves). The pools are so clean and there's plenty to do on the resort. The drinks aren't strong but they're good and all of the bars/bartenders are fantastic. We loved the circus show and the Mexican fiesta night. We came for our honeymoon and it was perfect. We didn't want a lot of nightlife and a resort that had plenty to do with that luxury feel. Excellence well surpassed our expectations. Will be visiting again for a future anniversary!

We want to give a huge shout out to JOSUE, ALDO and our server on the beach LUCY who gave us the most excellent customer service we could have imagined, always asking if we needed anything, always available for drink orders, delivering fruit and chocolate covered strawberries to us while we sunbathed! Also we LOVED CESAR at the martini bar! Never waited long for a drink and he was so personable and fun! Thank you for hosting us!

- GLBTravels (6/5): It was fine. NOT a 5 Star resort. Food was BAD. - TL;DR: The resort is very nice and our vacation was *fine* but it is NOT a 5-star resort and was not worth it for what we paid. The food is BAD and what sets a 5 star hotel apart from the rest are the details and Excellence lost me with the lack of attention to detail with many aspects of our stay over 7 days. If you are looking for LUXURY with good food this is NOT the resort for you. ABOUT US We are two best friends in our 30s who had visited the Finest Playa Mujeres in 2023 and had a wonderful time. We are not all-inclusive people but decided to go for because we need a life break and didn’t want to plan anything. We had such a great time at the Finest we decided to upgrade this time to the Excellence and wish we hadn’t. I am a very thorough trip planner and spent months reading reviews and comparing resorts. We are both truly baffled now as to how this resort has this many 5 star reviews because this resort is not a 5 star resort. Our stay in 2023 at the Finest was miles better, and cheaper, than our stay next door at the Excellence. RESORT VIBE Lots of couples, and as we were traveling as two friends, it kinda sucked no one was really down to mingle that much? So, great if you want a getaway with your loved one, not so great if you like making friends on vacation, even just chill ones by the pool. This is NOT a party hotel, which we loved. Everything basically winds down at 11pm which was great for us as we love sleep and our bed was so comfortable. RESORT + PROPERTY Pros: The property is gorgeous, very well maintained and very clean. It’s large enough to offer many lounge areas while not being overwhelmingly big. The beach and pools are immaculately maintained and we didn’t have a lot of trouble finding loungers or beds each day at any hour of the day. The staff are pretty good at making sure people don’t hog spots for the whole day without using the beds which is nice. Additionally, I will say this resort is VERY LGBTQIA+ friendly! We met many people across the gender spectrum also staying here and they expressed how safe and welcoming they felt which is a huge win in my opinion. Cons: Everything from restaurant and bar menus to resort activity info to event details are all on their dedicated app. This wouldn’t have bothered us if the app wasn’t SO SLOW and reliant on the inconsistent and slow wifi throughout the property. For example there is NO wifi coverage in the main lobby bar which means the app wouldn’t load so while we were waiting for drinks or for dinner we couldn’t check the app or use the wifi at all. ROOMS Pros: We loved our room. We stayed in a garden suite that overlooked a quiet pool area and really enjoyed how chill it was. The beds are sooooo comfortable, the room is spacious, the daily minibar restock was very appreciated and the shower was amazing. Truly, we loved our room. Not a con, but worth noting: the lights are all touch sensors and we never fully grasped how to turn on which light for which sensor the entire week were there. The bathroom toiletries were minimal (no dental floss and no mouthwash) Cons: We did have a number of issues with our room that weren’t really followed up with. When we arrived our TV was broken, it was completely blue. Someone came, took it off the wall and installed a new TV. This new TV seemed to not be fully integrated with the remote from the old TV though so it was very difficult to navigate. When we tried to use the app to chat with the front desk about it they made an appointment with us the next day to come look at it and then no one showed up. We were on vacation so who cares but this is an example of details not being taken care of. Also, if you like to listen to music in your room, bring a speaker! There is no clock radio or Bluetooth speaker in the rooms which was a huge surprise to us as this is pretty standard for hotels now even mid-tier ones. FOOD I cannot express how bad the food was. We are two well traveled adults who weren’t expecting Michelin star dining but for a 5 star resort to be serving consistency unseasoned, unsalted food with no flavouring whatsoever was shocking. What makes it worse is our meals at Finest in 2023 were amazing! The food was consistently tasteless and to be honest, Americanized. If you are someone who has traveled anywhere and loves traveling for the food or come from a major city with good food locally you will find better food at home. I am not being dramatic when I say the meal we had at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the Cancun airport was the best meal we had all week. We had pasta and burger… I have attached some photos, they spent all their time making the food LOOK nice and zero effort on how it tasted. The breakfast buffet had hands down the best food and was the highlight of our day. We loved the omelette station, the pastries, the waffles and French toast…etc. The two restaurants we liked were the French and Indian restaurant. I wouldn’t say the food was authentic but it has FLAVOUR and RANGE. All of the other restaurants were bad. Sadly and particularly the Mexican restaurant was very bad and particularly bland which doesn’t make any sense because I KNOW that’s not typical for Mexican cuisine. For specific examples: - if they say cheddar cheese they mean American Velveeta cheese, which is NOT the same thing!!! We loved ordering cheese quesadillas for lunch to the beach or pool at the Finest in 2023. They were easy, pretty light and paired with the pico and guac they came with a perfect lunch. Now the quesadillas are made with this Velveeta cheese and the guac is clearly not made in-house anymore. - I’ve attached a picture of the “loaded fries” at their sports bar. Taco Bell does it better. Final food note: I am a pescatarian and loved that the Finest/Excellence hotels have a plant-based menu for all their restaurants. In 2023 at the Finest there was a plant based menu that reflected the restaurant’s main menu so every night I had new options. No more! There were 2 plant-based menus for ALL the restaurants on the property and they were all BAD. Additionally, they are more vegetarian and less vegan friendly. I would NOT recommend this resort if you are plant-based, your options are LIMITED. DRINKS They were fine. Once again, for a 5 star resort it comes down to the details. The bar lime and bar lemon were very poor quality and all cocktails were made from mixes which means their flavours are whatever and they were SWEET!!! That being said, they made a great Aperol Spritz which when I discovered this was the only thing I drank for the rest of our stay. SERVICE Pro: When the service was good, it was GOOD. The bartenders are kind and generous with their time. The servers by the pool were lovely and remembered us daily. Cons: When it was bad, it was bad. After 2 days at the beach with terrible service we just stopped going to the beach and opted to stay pool side for the rest of our stay. The server at the beach either told us our food orders would “take too long” then walk away or one morning I wasn’t approached for 1.5h to see if I needed anything and in the end I had to CALL after him to get his attention. And I fully recognize complaining I’m not being doted on enough is a 1st world problem but when we’re paid nearly DOUBLE from our last stay in 2023 for a five start resort it’s shocking that this isn’t the standard? Additionally there were a few times my friend would order a pretty standard drink, like a Dark and Stormy, and instead of asking what that was to see if they could make it our server said “we don’t do that” and walked away!!!! ENTERTAINMENT It was fine. Nothing special? The stand out for us was the Freddie Mercury performance. Karaoke was also fun. FINAL NOTES Look, I’m not someone to secretly rage and then blast a company online. We told them when we checked out how we felt about our stay and gave all of this feedback in person. They had a manager come speak to us and she seemed to understand what I meant about the missing details and honestly didn’t seem surprised about our feedback regarding the food. She was very apologetic and gave us a complimentary upgrade for our “next stay”. To be honest, while the Finest made us think “oh, are we all-inclusive people?????” The Excellence has sealed the deal we are NOT all-inclusive people. I could have paid less and gone to Italy for a week.

- Resort00172050422 (8/5): Not as Excellence as the name implies - We booked the Playa Mujeres location after Hurricane Melissa. We were afraid that the Oyster Bay location would be unable to open, and wish we would have just waited. This is not Jamaica!! The location is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. The beach was clean and the staff worked each day to clean the seaweed off. A few complaints would be the benefits of Excellence Club. Beach chairs were limited, the rooms were average, the jacuzzi tub took over an hour to fill in our room, the Excellence Pools were not heated, and the champagne breakfast came to us cold. Food at the resort was average. The best meal was at The Grill. Cesar at the Martini bar was amazing. It is a must to stop and try one of his drinks and chat. He puts on a show but also welcomes you like a long lost friend. The Excelence Club concierge staff Aldo and Josue were very attentive and help is secure beach chairs and pool chairs for the day. The nightly entertainment was a hit and miss, but what we did attend were pretty good. The resort is OK. I feel it is overpriced, and there are others more affordable options to consider.

- Departure41809299534 (10/5): Our 3rd (third) visit to Excellence Playa Mujeres - Our 3rd (third) visit to Excellence Playa Mujeres within 1.5 years was delightful! This resort will be an annual visit for many years. There are multiple reasons we have returned not just once, but twice. These reasons include: 1) Staff friendliness. It’s a pleasure to chat with the servers, concierges, hosts, and entertainment people. Everyone goes out of the way to help. 2) Staff attention to details. Glasses are never empty, food is nicely presented, cocktails are perfect. 3) Great entertainment. From dance classes to Zumba in the pool to music bands at night – everything is well done and fun. 4) Great food: my wife told the wait staff that she has been eating shrimp for 50+ years, and that a pasta shrimp dish (at The Kitchen) was the best shrimp she has ever tasted. On a sad note, the resort has reduced the number of dishes that they serve. We guess maybe half as many as before. While less choices, the food they serve is excellent – tasty and fresh! 5) Celiac safe food. We have stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres for a total of 20 days during the past 1.5 years. Not once has my celiac wife gotten sick. NOT ONCE! This shows the level of commitment from the cooks and wait staff that ensures there is no gluten ingredients and no cross contamination. Special call outs go to several servers including Alan (Magna & Oregano), Sergio (Basmati), Benjamin (Magna & Oregano), Juan (Kitchen Table), and Daniel (Lobster House). Jorge at the Magna bar was the best bartender ever! We loved Kevin, Jesus, and Brandon for the dance and Zumba classes. Sully, beach concierge was also great.

The food was incredible, staff exceptional, amenities were kept clean and the entertainment was delightful. There’s a reason so many people we met this week have been here year after year!

Our recent stay was 12/29/25-1/5/26, over the New Year's holiday. First, we would like to thank people, individually for their hospitality, professionalism, and extraordinary service: Jesús, the Activities Director: He has an amazing, natural, talent for hospitality. He is fun, friendly, and always makes us feel like family. ... and that smile!!! He makes sure everyone is enjoying their stay and he has a great ability to get people to participate without making them feel uncomfortable. Grecia Martin, General Front Desk Manager: We had a slight issue with our reservation. Grecia quickly addressed our concerns and resolved the issue with our complete satisfaction, so we could enjoy the remainder of our vacation. Josue, Excellence Club beach concierge: very much like Jesús, Josue has a remarkable talent for hospitality and made sure to check on us several times a day throughout our 3, full-day beach cabana reservation. We loved the special touches: champagne welcome bottle & bottled water in an ice bucket. He would offer delicious fruit skewers and fun cocktails. We enjoyed having pleasant conversation with Josue. Again, we were made to feel like family. To ALL the service staff: Thank you for making our stay relaxing & magical! Our room was always filled with our favorite beverages and snacks. The cleanliness was impeccable. We loved the special touches and attention to detail: room service attendants & turn down staff, maids, Excellence Club pool service & beach service attendants, Personal pizza to order by the main pool, and the Excellence Club pool concierge I wrote down the names of all we can remember but we didn't run across anyone at the resort that doesn't deserve praise for their wonderful service and friendliness: Gustavo, Belizario, Rogelio (room service and excellence club attendants) & Aaron (seaside drink attendant) The wait and bus staff at the Kitchen table was fantastic. Our cups & glasses were always full and we didn't feel rushed to complete our meal, and they were quick to remove empty plates.The buffet food was plentiful, tasty, and always fresh. I loved that we could request made to order omelets. The entertainment was professional & lively! We especially loved silent DJ, the live bands, the retro New Year's party, and pool Zumba! There is something for everyone, we felt. We ate dinner at all restaurants except Chez Isabelle. We will eat there for a future stay. We didn't have one bad meal. Every plate was delicious, presented beautifully, and the food was always hot. Lastly, several resort managers would walk around the pool and lounge areas, asking for honest feedback and they were genuinely gracious for any and all feedback.
