Guest Reviews
- Mark (10/5): - We were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful Disblair House was. The public area was extremely warm and inviting with a real fire in the fireplace each evening! And an honesty bar to enjoy too! The breakfast was beyond amazing. We felt very well taken care of. Chris and Karolyn were wonderful hosts!
- RJ (10/5): Perfection in the Countryside - What a perfect stay!! From our wonderful hosts, a cosy room with every touch, a guest lounge that cuddled you and a stunning breakfast
- Margaret (10/5): - Wonderful touches and breakfast! Very friendly proprietors.
- joseph (10/5): - My wife and I love houses with real character. We enjoyed sitting in a two hundred year old living room, open fire, glass of something in hand- lord of the manor! Very relaxing- really quiet- excellent breakfast. First class hosts- would like to go back some time.
- James (10/5): - Fantastic place to stay, Karolyn and Chris were friendly, welcoming and made our stay feel so homely. They cooked up an amazing breakfast as well. Would highly recommend staying here!
- Colin (10/5): - A great homely and dog-friendly B&B in a quiet rural location (last section of road to property is unsurfaced but is fine if driven slowly). Relaxing residents' lounge with games and honesty bar. Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of cooked and continental options - you won't leave hungry!
- Dorothy (10/5): Amazing hospitality - Excellent Scottish hospitality Karolyn and Chris were more than helpful, breakfast was outstanding, room was very comfortable matress & pillows were fantastic excellent sleep
- Mr Paul (10/5): Great stay - Breakfast was excellent. Room was great and very comfortable and clean.
Off the beaten track but great place to stay. Owners are lovely people and so friendly.
- Kenneth (10/5): A Jewel in the Country - My wife and I have just spent the two most comfortable nights as guests of Disblair House Hotel.
Seeking accommodation close to a an event venue where friends were hosting their daughter's wedding reception (Barra Castle), I discovered Disblair House. Communication from the outset was faultless (thank you Karolyn). We dropped off our bags enroute to the reception, being welcomed by both Karolyn and Chris, then made our way to Barra Castle.
Comfort: Our room (No. 3) was beautifully prepared, as was the large ensuite shower room. The bed was comfortable, as were the armchairs, and the complimentary Taylor's Coffee Bags a lovely treat, with the Walker's shortbread.
Cooking: A wonderful 'Full Scottish' cooked breakfast was our choice each morning. Everything cooked to perfection, and the tomato? - well 6 cherry tomatoes, cooked just right, on the vine, was a first for me as part of a cooked breakfast. Delicious!
Improvements? Well, as I did say to Chris - the only even slightly negative comment I could make was my preference for salted butter over unsalted. :-). Perhaps I would also say that a particularly close to the ground sports car might find the access road a challenge.
Overall: Karolyn and Chris are wonderfully welcoming hosts. I cannot recommend Disblair House highly enough, and their invitation to drop in and see them for a coffee if even just passing through on some future occasion is a measure of the warmth and welcome found there.
- Glynn (10/5): - Staff as in the hosts Fantastic, Great 500 year old house in a picturesque location and nothing too much trouble as for the breakfast So much choice and so much food both hot and cold You’ll not want to move after!!😝 Cannot praise this place enough !!
- Rona (10/5): - Such a brilliant find! Wonderful hosts, comfy bed, amazing house, HUGE breakfast selection and quiet location. We were only passing through for one night, but we will be back!
Not a single negative from us, but be aware that Disblair House is in the country and not walking distance to town.
- Carol (10/5): - We were made to feel welcome from the start to the end of our three night stay.
Our bed was so comfortable, it was a welcome return after a busy day exploring Aberdeenshire.
The ensuite facilities were very spacious.
Room included small fridge, microwave, TV, electric blanket, armchairs and hospitality tray.
Loved the drawing room with the open fire where we sat and played games.
Breakfast was outstanding, the choices were amazing and set you up for the day.
We didn't like saying goodbye, even Gracie our Jackadoodle enjoyed herself and was made to feel at home.
- Conor (10/5): - Spent a lovely few days here as a family. Karolyn & Chris were the perfect hosts in their lovely period home & the breakfasts were delicious. The location is a short drive from Aberdeen Airport and a great base for exploring NE Scotland’s stunning coastline, the Cairngorms etc.
- David (10/5): - Polite and attentive owners who go the extra mile, superb Scottish breakfast
- Karen (10/5): - Always a very warm welcome when we stay at Disblair House both for us and our 2 dogs who are equally as welcome
- Michael (10/5): Hone away from home - Fantastic stay. The hosts make you feel part of their home. I only wish we were able to stay longer. Such a beautiful home. It was wonderful to wake up with a deer right outside of the window. Breakfast was delicious and by far the best we have had yet.
- Victoria (10/5): A little out of the way, but a great stay! - The owners were extremely nice and could not have been more accommodating. The house is basically in the middle of farm country, but the stay was very nice. There is a nice common room with a fire place and a bar. You serve yourself at the bar and pay on an honor system.
The breakfast was outstanding. You fill out your order the night before with a big selection and the breakfast was perfect. The porridge was the best we have had in Scotland by far.
It was a little further out of Aberdeen than expected, but we were very glad we stayed here.
Highly recommend it
- Richard (8/5): Friendly Staff - My family had a wonderful stay at the Disblair House Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast each morning were amazing! The best we had our entire trip in Scotland, we stayed at 5 different hotels on our trip.
- michael (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Disblair House. Our family room was traditionally furnished. Beds and electric blankets were warm and comfortable. Bathroom was ensuite with electric shower. Breakfast was tasty, eggs from the hen coop with nice bacon and we had mushrooms and tomatoes. and plenty of white and brown toast ,croissants and waffles. We sampled juices and a cold table with ham, tomato salad, cornichons, cheeses. Freshly made coffee. In the evening we very much enjoyed sitting by a log fire in the honesty bar with a glass of good red wine. My daughter aged 7 did not want to leave this pleasant hotel. Our hosts could not have been more delightful. Recommended
- Kiri (10/5): - I cannot recommend Disblair House enough!!! We had an absolutely wonderful stay there thanks to Karolyn and Chris and their wonderful hospitality. They went above and beyond to make everyone comfortable. Their breakfast spread was exceptional. I will most definitely go there again and recommend anyone else to as well.
- Joe (10/5): Wonderful and attentive hosts, great value - We had a lovely room with all the amenities you could need. The lounge and bar was a lovely place to relax (with very well priced drinks!). The breakfast was wonderful and a great selection was on offer.
I would love to stay here in the future.
- Molly (10/5): Holy goodness! What a gem! - My husband and I stayed here, and we absolutely fell in love with the place. We were greeted at the door by Caroline, who showed us around. Our suite was quiet, private, and extremely comfortable. There was a den with a fireplace in the evening. It is a bit out in the country, but that is what made it a dream. Chris and Caroline were incredible hosts and dedicated to providing such a lovely experience. The breakfast was above and beyond, and offered so many options. We fell in love with Disblair House, and we would recommend it. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
- Helen (10/5): A real find - The hotel has been a real find
We were up on some family business and had not been aware of the hotel although it was relatively local to our family base in Oldmeldrum
This hotel was a real find, so welcoming and comfortable, as well as being pet friendly. We will make it our go to place for any future visits up north
Lovely place and lovely people.
Top marks
- Christine (10/5): Lovey place, well worth a visit. - A first class, really different B&B. Lovely old building filled with amazing furniture and a lovely collection of quirky items, both inside and outside the house.
Beautiful spread of continental breakfast items, plus a hard to beat cooked Scottish breakfast, the plates full of good quality local produce.
Karolyn and Chris were the perfect hosts, who made every effort to make our stay comfortable, with some nice touches.
Due to the rural location, the honesty bar is a great idea for those who want to relax in the lovely surroundings, in front of the open fire.
It’s easy to find, plenty of parking and a warm welcome, add in a great nights sleep, it has everything!
- JULIA (10/5): - The property was beautiful. Relaxing by the fire at the end of a busy day was a highlight. The breakfast were amazing! Our hosts were outstanding also.
- Kristen (10/5): - My family loved our stay. The breakfast was delicious and the service was so hospitable and thoughtful. They also two adorable dogs that were so great with our son. We would absolutely return here if we were ever in town!
- Linda (10/5): Amazing - Karolyn and Chris were fantastic hosts. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and breakfast was just amazing it was the best breakfast I’ve had in a hotel / B and B / guest house. Fresh produce Catered to our wishes, plenty of food , cooked to perfection
- anne (8/5): Fantastic find 😘 - I had an amazing stay , what a find .
Took my dog .
They made me and my pup so welcome, great walks and lovely grounds.
Can’t wait to go back.
- Dennis (10/5): Relaxing stay - Very warm welcome received and friendliness extended throughout stay whilst keeping within Covid19 restrictions. Informative regarding local area. Breakfasts excellent, apologies given for packaged butter/jam because of current regulations, compensated with warm croissant served with the toast. Quiet country setting, would definitely return.
- Stephen (10/5): Somewhere different. - For something a little different give this a try. First impressions may leave you a little unsure as it's not your usual crisp white accommodation but once you get in it's a great place run by a lovely couple who can't do enough for you. And if you're really lucky you may get to pet the chickens - we didn't unfortunately.
- Minxy (10/5): - This lovely property was so private and bucolic! It was situated in a country setting, but it was also ideally about 5 minutes from good restaurants and a market. Karolyn and Chris were very welcoming and quickly made us at home in our well appointed room, which had a huge en-suite bathroom with gorgeous tub and separate shower. Thoughtful touches like fresh cozy robes and a sweet were on our beds, and also tea and biscuits in room for our refreshment. Karolyn and Chris stoked up a roaring fire and regaled us with interesting stories about local goings on and the history of Disblair House in their parlor. In the morning, a terrific made to order breakfast was provided, along with an assortment of cheeses, juices and fruit. We hated to leave, but will cherish the warm evening we spent with our thoughtful, funny and interesting hosts - and new friends. A must stay if you are in the area!
- Ian (10/5): A hidden gem. - This B&B is really wonderful. There is so much character about the place and a history dating back to the 16th century. Carolyn and Chris are perfect hosts. They bought Disblair House in 2005 as almost a ruin and have spent time to bring backck the original character, with period furniture and fittings. Okay, the road up to the premises could do with some attention and there's still things to be done outside but once inside you are immersed in a warm atmosphere (aided by the biomass boiler system), where there is much to see and it's almost like stepping back in time. Our room was very well equipped with nothing to look for, yet at the same time had the same period furniture with a wonderful four poster bed which was very comfortable. There is a comfortable lounge with a roaring log fire where one can enjoy a drink and a chat. The breakfast room is equally interesting with antique furnishings. The breakfast menu is lovely and offers a good selection. Certainly nothing antique about the breakfast - yummy!
All in all we had a lovely weekend stay here and would certainly recommend this to anyone who likes to see real character, and of course warm and friendly hosts.
