Guest Reviews
- Norbert (1/5): Power was out and property unlivable, StayAU property manager agreed to refund payment but never did - We arrived to find power out and property unlivable. StayAU responded to our calls quickly and agreed to cancel and refund the booking. We arrived to find power out and property unlivable. StayAU agreed to cancel and refund. They claimed to have processed the refund. However StayAU never refunded the payment to booking.com so they wouldn't refund and we're out $700. Buyer beware: If you book a property managed by StayAU and there is a problem, you will NOT get your money back!
- Salvatore (10/5): - food and view
- Francesca (10/5): Relaxing - Cosy cottage Nothing
- NegarH (3/5): -
- Nicolas (7/5): Nice cottages, but lacked amenities that were promised at booking - The cottage itself and the location are absolutely beautiful and feel almost magical. The cottages lacked several amenities that were promised at booking. My booking stated there would be breakfast included, when I arrived I was told that there was no breakfast service since COVID. So we had to change our entire plans on shortest notice to organize breakfast for ourselves.
The place further lacked robes and slippers that were promised as amenities, and the tub missed it's plug, rendering it unusable during our stay.
- Lana (9/5): - Beds are really snuggly and comfortable TV in one bedroom was difficult to work. Could not change the volume
- Francesca (10/5): - Hubby and I have been coming here now for 21 years and this little oasis is a great getaway to completely unwind.
- Paul (10/5): - On a late night whim we booked the cottage. It was truly a magical experience. Very grateful that we could book with just a few hours notice online.
Instructions sent were great, and the cottage exactly what we hoped for - quiet, secluded, lots of privacy, and bird life (thank you for the bird seed, that was pretty much the ultimate!!).
The entire place is just amazing!
Love the owl touches and everything about the cottage! Incredibly romantic.
- Nicky (4/5): Nice place, just a few things let them down. - We didn’t receive breakfast, it was included in the booking and I called and emailed when we were at the property with no reply, disappointing if I knew they didn’t have it organised, I would have arranged provisions before arriving. We arrived late, would have been better if the heater was on to take the chill off, breakfast was included and never arrived.
- Desma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kate (6/5): - Pros: spa bath, heating worked beautifully, great location.
Cons: lack of communication from property owner. We asked for an earlier check in (3pm). The shower wasn’t great, the water went all over the bathroom floor and was a slipping hazard. Would probably stay elsewhere next time.
- Melanie (10/5): Romantic weekend getaway - The cottage was lovely, cosy and warm. The ambiance of the gas’s log fire created that ideal romantic evening. It would have been nice to have deck and veranda at the back of the cottage for more privacy.
- Mariane (1/5): WARNING!!!!! Stay Clear from these Cottages - Location It was dirty and the bed sheets were not changed. There was period blood on the blankets and sheets and all the way through to the mattress protector. When we messaged the app no one answered and i had to call the landlord. When the landlord hung up to call the cleaner she didn’t even have the decency to call back. Text photo attached. We were advised to go into another cottage to get the clean sheets off the bed that was made in there and make our own bed, which we did. They left us two towels for 5 days and coffee that looked like it had been there for 10 years in a dirty jar. Breakfast included, what a joke. No milk, cereal bags you would not even fill your toddlers hunger with, for two people for 5 days 4 small single cereal bags. The sponge (photo attached) omg. We paid $2300 to lock ourselves away to talk business and found ourselves needing to go in and out for amenities that should have been supplied. Black mould in the shower. I have requested a full refund and am waiting to see if Booking.com is going to push the landlord into doing the right thing. I am a genius member and constantly travel for our business. I have never been so disappointed in all my years of travelling. Be careful out there. Property owners are cutting corners and hygiene is not something we can afford to compromise on for our own health at this time. No offence to the brilliant landlords that we have stayed with in the past. So so disappointed.
- andy (10/5): - very clean and great atmosphere
- Jacqui (10/5): You’ve been here twice for our wedding anniversary and we loved it both times - will be back in the future - I love that you feel like your alone in the middle of nowhere even though it’s near town
- Heet (8/5): Very good -
- Freeman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peta (9/5): Cozy, romantic and pleasurable - The lay out and how clean it was. Liked everything about it
- Duane (10/5): A gorgeous view of a spectacular sunset, beautiful surroundings, luxurious cottage, stunning wife. - We spent our wedding night in the same cottage 25 years ago, so it was as expected - excellent! We couldn't stay longer.
- Tathra (10/5): Magical - The whole experience was absolutely perfect! Peaceful, Romantic and Serene and surrounded by nature. We had the most wonderful 10th Wedding Anniversary weekend. Absolutely magical. My husband and I fell in love with the whole place and cannot wait to come back! Weve been discussing how we can plan to make this a yearly experience for us!
Special mention to the gorgeous family of Chrimson Rosellas that came to visit frequently.
- Shane (9/5): Very enjoyable stay. - Very comfortable, good amenities and very clean. Spa spat out black residue when jets were turned on.
- Rhian (10/5): - Haven’t stayed here for quite a few years, but absolutely love it here!
It’s quiet, private and just beautiful to get away from it all.
Breakfast provisions were wonderful and the kitchen is well supplied.
Thank you for having us! Will be coming back.
- Danielle (10/5): Rejuvenating - Privacy, very welcoming, the morning bird visitors The driveway!
- Caroline (10/5): Wonderful in every way! - Such a wonderful cottage with fantastic ambience and fitted out with everything you could possibly want. The big spa bath, the cosy gas log fire, the well appointed kitchen and the comfy bed. Everything was perfect and the location is great too with plenty of walking options from the cottage.
- Brenda (8/5): Quick visit to the Dandenong Ranges - The location. The cottage was warm and comfortable. Nothing
- Lisa-Maree (10/5): - Gorgeous cottage
- Natasha (10/5): So relaxing and peaceful. Lots of birds and yummy breakfast - Beautiful and clean
- Dr (10/5): Exceptional - Was an amazing night , I found the cottage had so much space and the bed was remarkably comfortable. I did feed the wild birds which was a new experience 🤩😁
- Michael (9/5): will be coming back - extremely private and cozy
- Declan (9/5): Superb -
- Leteischa (4/5): Wouldn't stay again. - Spa bath and toiletries. No WiFi working, which should be an absolute given, as there is no reception. No wine, cheese and biscuits or anything else in the fridges, just some generic chocolates. Very different from the way it used to be, and begs the question - why a big empty fridge then? Bed wayyyy too firm. Parking was taken by other rude guests who had booked for a wedding, so in the middle of the night we had to hunt them down and ask them to move. They asserted they had been told they could "just park anywhere". They were also noisy (up at 5am) and blocked us in the following morning! Note: We had two cottages and paid for two car parks, had to fight for one car park, there was no breakfast provided in either. Owners who assured me they were "available for any reason" don't actually answer their phone. 🙄
- Jane (8/5): Adequate - Surroundings
Compact, had most things we needed
Hot tub When we arrived the aircon heater was on upstairs to make it warm, but the living area on the lower floor was FREEZING. Suggest in Winter that the fireplace be switched on for a couple of hours prior to checkin, then the whole house will be warmed up. (We switched the aircon heating off and left the fire on overnight and it was toasty all night. (Gas is also cheaper than electricity!))
We were a bit disappointed with breakfast for the price of the accommodation - cereal, juice, eggs and toast felt a bit lacking. Suggest adding some small pots of yoghurt, seasonal fruit, and maybe some deli cuts/bacon.
The bed creaked a lot.
- Adrian (8/5): The stay was fantastic. - Location was awesome with great views. Room looked great and was nice and clean, the heating made it comfortable considering the cold weather. The shower needs a screen, water pours all over the bathroom floor. Other than that maybe prune a few trees that’s impeding views.
- Philippa (8/5): Very good -
- Phoebe (10/5): Exceptional - The old vintage & cottagey feel of the unit. The breakfast was great. Staff was very helpful & attentive. We were very appreciative of the staff who came in the rain to help us with one of the blinds which got stucked. We had enjoyed our 3 nights stay in Ironbark cottage very much. All is good.
- Marsh (8/5): Had a lovely time was very relaxing - The breakfast was good
- Lily (8/5): Very good -
- Petricevic (10/5): Absolutely wonderful little cottage - The cottage was absolutely amazing with its decor and presentation evoking a homely and welcoming sensation. Every aspect of the cottage was immaculately cleaned and well presented. The surrounding garden and views were beautiful. Everything was perfect.
- Bradley (9/5): Very enjoyable . (Wedding anniversary)Hope to return - Excellent and more than adequate breakfast
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sonnary (9/5): Superb - Stayed in the ironbark cottage. Great amenities. Eggs, milk, bacon, etc was provided which was very thoughtful and delicious ! The cottage was so cozy and even though its small, it felt so spacious !! Bed was comfy and dinner table is also extendable ! Both me & my boyfriend did not want to leave. The only downside about the cottage is the wifi/data connection. Inisde the cottage is poor signal but able to use 4g/5g outside. Had to place phone on the window sill and hotspot to other devices to watch things like youtube and netflix.
- Samantha (9/5): Superb -
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (1/5): Very disappointed. I have spoken to the property directly and advised them of the lack of cleanliness. - Thought the cottage would’ve been more olde worlde (as the other rooms were). It wasn’t clean and the spa was disgusting

- Benjamin H (10/5): - We stayed at Observatory Cottages for our wedding accommodation and was impressed from arrival.
East close access to shops, clean and secluded and perfect amenities for a relaxing, comfortable stay. Milk, bread and water/juices provided unexpectingly which was a bonus so breakfast and snacks sorted.
Keep up the great effort !!

- Karen (10/5): It was an exceptional place to stay - Beautiful, Cozy and so relaxing
- Kane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leticia (8/5): Very good -
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Morris (6/5): Started off well but the noise and hard bed ruined the stay. Now - Nice breakfast Found bed way to firm ended up with a sore back.
Too much noise from next door they arrived home at midnight and you could hear every foot step on the floor boards. They also had a shower and it sounded like the bathroom shower was on the other side of the bedroom wall as you could hear the water running and going down the shower drain. Didn’t get a good night sleep so woke up with a huge headache from lack of sleep and my sore back which ruined our high tea plans for the Sunday.
I don’t think we would return book this property again.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Warren (7/5): comfortable - lovely cottage, quirky like us. nice stay. the iron was a bit old and hard to use. the path lights are all broken,
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Denise (10/5): - Lovely relaxing property, well stocked with supplies. Garden needed some weeding. An additional bench in the bathroom would have been handy and perhaps a wide vision mirror at the entrance would also improve safety, not that we had any issues - just feedback.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - No tea towel to dry dishes
- Brett (8/5): Enjoyed immensely. - Great breakfast ingredients provided. Location great. Parking a bit awkward when full house.
- Teny (10/5): fabulous - it was very neat and clean the hot water was not working in upstairs bathroom
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - The view . The cottage was beautiful. The grounds are beautiful. Verry close to sky high.
- Scott (9/5): Superb - They were very accommodating to my dietary requirements 👍😊
- Hunt (9/5): fabulous couple break - very private and lovely details. quality food provided. BBQ grill side does not get very hot. plate side not working.
- William (8/5): Well worth the money. - Breakfast was well thought out with a nice supply of goodies. Also, the spa was very relaxing and enjoyable.
- Craig (9/5): Superb -
- Barker (8/5): Very nice break away & the old world charm & location added to the relaxing time away. Highly recommended! - Location, charm, modern bathroom facilities. The TV kept having a headphone setting instruction flash up on the screen every minute or so. Couldn’t fix it, very annoying. possible fault with TV?
Front door lock a bit clumsy with the skeleton key style lock. Was sometimes fumbling around for a while trying to lock/unlock the door. Not a huge issue, just giving constructive criticism.
The spa seemed to take a long time to fill as water pressure was low in that part of the house. Took over 40min to fill.
Otherwise, a lovely time was had & enjoyed the stay very much. Thankyou.
- Villi (7/5): Good - The Spa, the overall surrounding, being part of nature. The rooster that constantly came to the backyard and didn't stop howling throughout the night, therefore it was a little challenging to go to sleep but also be woken up extremely early by the same rooster, who presumably lived next door, but seemed to want to move into the cottage we were staying at.
- Todd (8/5): Very good -

- Swetman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eleni (8/5): Very good - Loved the space and location.
