Guest Reviews
- Myexperience2 (2/5): Scam rates - Overcharged at check-in.
After arriving from the overnight bus from Uyuni, I arrived early. I had booked through booking.com which quoted me a private room in USD.
Upon check-in, the staff asked to see my reservation and then decided to charge me double the rate, despite paying cash in Bolivian currency. I showed her the going rate ($ to 6.91 Bs) and she said their rate is 11 Bs, which is almost double. The initial price I was quoted for early check-in also magically doubled.
I was exhausted and knew arguing wouldn’t get me anywhere. So flagging here - choose elsewhere particularly if you’re on a budget as you will get scammed!
- Michael (4/5): - Poor condition of the hotel. Stuff is not friendly. Highly price for the drinks and food. Dirty and old towels. Small bathroom and smelly. Not recommended hotel. Breakfast was ok
- Michael (4/5): - Old hotel. Small bathroom. Very dirty and old towels. Smelly bathroom. Pillows are old and smelly. Breakfast ok. Stuff not very friendly. Dirty hotel. Expensive drinks and food. Unsafe location.
- Michael (4/5): - Outdated hotel. Smelly and small bathroom. Expensive food and drinks. Noisy and unsafe area. Old towels are provided. Not recommended hotel
- Michael (6/5): - Hotel needs update. Hotel staff are very cold. Dirty and broken towels. Very old bathrooms and smelly. Small shower. Area is not safe. Limited dining
- Anika (10/5): One night solo female - I was pleasantly surprised to see the dorms so clean. At least tbe one I was in was very clean and only had one other person with me. I stayed one more night and this time I took a private and can’t complaint at all!
The only thing I would say for the dorms is maybe make the curtains darker in colour so if someone else turns on a light, you can still get light block and also add usb charger to electrical outlets if possible
- Anika (10/5): Definitely recommend. Dry clean, eclectic vibe ni - Second day different room. Wanted to stay in a private room just because after using a dorm for the first night. No trouble with either and bed linens, room was very comfortable! The only thing is tbe or hate room was facing the street and if you open the window to let air in, it’s hard to sleep with the street noise. Maybe ask for a room not facing the street if possible
- Michael (8/5): - ok
- Sharez (10/5): - The people at the front desk were amazing, very helpful and always willing to help.
- ana carolina (10/5): - Estadia confortável, bem central. Atendeu às expectativas.
- Karina (6/5): Poor service. Wouldnt go back if ever in La Paz ag - The room was extremely noisy day and night. One morning cleanijg staff barged into the room without knocking and almost caught us both naked. Had to ask for toilet paper. Service in the restaurant was awkward and at times even rude.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ótima localiza e serviço
- Ariadna (10/5): - Excelente servicio y comida deliciosa!. Volvería muchas veces!
- Alexander (8/5): Nice place to stay - Good place nice room and comfortable. Dinner/lunch food was a bit dodgy with one of us finding undercooked chicken.
- Quang (2/5): - The girl at the front desk was dismissive and untrustworthy. She is lack of basic hospitality. I understand it’s a popular hostel, and she is busy but lying or not putting efforts is not a good customer services. I booked a private queen room bed, upon check in, she told me no single queen room is available and insisted on giving me a 4 person dorm room with a queen bed. I told her that is not what I booked. She dismissed me and saying it’s still a queen bed and guaranteed that I will be the only person in that room. I went to the room, I found a couple hair on the sheet, I am not sure that it’s even been cleaned. And No I don’t want the extra beds taken up space in my room when I have no need of it and that’s not what I booked. I went back down, I talked to her again and this time she gave me the room that I supposed to get. This was not the only time that she was not truthful… I realized that she said a certain lie so she doesn’t have to help after a few incidents. Also, dont waste your time and money on the massage service, I booked a deep tissue massage, and the girl was sitting on the chair while doing it (usually the masseurs use their body weight to go deep) asked her multiple time to do it harder, but it was just a waste of time. I was disappointed with this hostel services and would never be back or recommend it to anyone. There are other options.

- Tom (8/5): - A great hub from which to explore the city, very helpful staff!
- valecllplanet (2/5): very bad experience. I remembered something different from Selina - The worst Selina experience so far. I would have never expected:
- lack of cleaning in the rooms
- lack of tourist knowledge from the staff ( I was sent to th wrong bus terminal)
- lack of customer service:
30-40' waiting for a breakfast,
>40' for a dinner in which most of the menu was not available
No allergies were considered, which were previously communicated, in the breakfast boxes, which were prepared, which in reality were cancelled the evening before, cause we could have had a standard breakfast
- difficulties in getting the phone charged as the plugs didn't work
- Jenna (10/5): - Great hostel close to many of the attractions. Safe area. Easy to organise activities through the hostel. Staff are friendly. Would recommend
- Amanda (10/5): - This was a great place to stay, especially when I had to spend a lot of my day working remotely! The food at the restaurant was delicious, the room was comfortable, and I loved the souvenirs featuring art by local artists.
- hmj1986 (10/5): Great stay - The pictures were a little off from the room we got, but overall we had a nice stay here. We got in around 4:30am, but check in was quick and easy. We weren't bothered by noise at all as some of the other reviews have stated, although we were on the 4th floor so maybe that made a difference. No heat or cooling that we could find, but with the window open we didn't really need it. The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean. Food in the restaurant was actually really good. Overall, I'd stay here again as it was perfectly adequate, especially given the great location and reasonable price.
- Tourist39563510703 (4/5): Unpleasant - On the first night I was in a 4 bed dorm and I was woken up at 4 am by the receptionist and a security guard. They got me out of bed and made me show my room key and guest card, as apparently in their system the room should be empty. Well, I was in the right room and I was taken out of bed without any need, apparently the receptionist registered me on room 307 and gave me the keys of 407. It was very unpleasant and I had a terrible sleep after that. I wonder why they couldn't wait until later to settle the matter.
So I went to the reception to negotiate some kind of compensation for the unpleasant situation they had put me through, I suggested a complimentary breakfast (it costs about U$4.50). But they basically replied that they didn't care about the situation and that I could complain wherever I wanted.
Selina is not a cheap hostel, so you're expected to at least be treated well, which was not the case. Before this happened, I would easily give it five stars, as it is comfortable, safe, clean. But the way they treated me wasn't fair, they treated me like I was doing something wrong, when in fact it was their mistake.
Second night the private room smelled cigarette, I also let reception know but nothing was made. There were some dishes from a previous guest at the door and they stayed there until my check out.
Both nights were very noisy.
During check out I had to request the refund of the 35bs key deposit they charged me when checking in, but they said it wasn't registered on the system (again another "system" mistake), so I had to insist I paid, very uncomfortable situation once more.
It seems Selina La Paz needs to improve its management. The whole situation will definitely make me think twice about staying at another Selina.
- Charlotte (10/5): - I really loved staying here. My room was well designed, and had a nice place to work. The wifi worked great. I loved the cafeteria food and bakery. The area was quiet but right off the main strip. I would say it's a quick walk to the most touristy area, but with the hills nothing is a quick walk. Also it's right next to a badass feminist cafe!
- Malpa1507 (10/5): La Paz - Very welcoming and clean, the cafe/reception bit was nice and cosy, the breakfast was brilliant. We had been on a trip and arrived at La Paz at 6am and they let us use a shower and chill in the cafe until it opened for breakfast. They also arranged taxis to/from the airport and bus station. 100% would stay here again.
- Emine (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Great group of visitors
- Emine (10/5): - Clean, friendly atmosphere
- Elizaveta (10/5): - We stayed at Selina in the middle of the week, so didn't have any issues with the noisy nightclub. Selina's own cafe is definitely overpriced and not worth it, so I'd recommend eating somewhere else. Everything else was great - the location is perfect and our room was very comfy. Perfect value as well
- sapullum (10/5): Selina La Paz - Recently stayed here for the first time and it is so far my favorite hostel in South America. Staff was great, spoke English, check in process was easy and quick, hot water, comfy beds, nice aesthetic, gave good recommendations, free luggage storage. They were able to call a cab for my friend and I when needed. They have a patio out front that was nice to just sit and hang out at. There is also a security guard 24/7. We had someone from outside the hostel approach us and the guard was on it within seconds! Super safe and super nice place. Wondered the neighborhood and never felt unsafe, even after dark. Did the bouldering offered by the hotel and had a blast!
- Evan (4/5): - Stayed for two nights and both nights the club had the music so loud our room was vibrating. Staff was complained to multiple times and they did nothing.so if you don’t like sleeping Selina La Paz is the place for you. Would not recommend
- Jorge (10/5): Friendly Staff but some Issues with my room - Selina is usually excellent, unfortunately this time I faced some issues: the heater wasn’t working properly, I wasn’t offered another room neither it was fixed. Portable heaters were not available this time. Internet wasn’t working on my room! I’m a digital nomad, and this is very important. Other than that it was confortable and the staff was friendly.
- Meander63846335215 (10/5): Adventures in La Paz! - I stayed with Selina on and off for 3 weeks. The hostel is very friendly and helpful with coordinating day excursions. I loved their smoothie bowl and coffee in the mornings, and had a variety of healthy options at the restaurant when in need of a snack. Beds were clean with divider blinds that made for a private hostel sleep.
Thank you Selina La Paz!
- pswerd (10/5): Perfect home based for La Paz - First, the staff here is amazing. They went out of
their way to help us out, book taxis, airport rides,
tours, recommend restaurants, etc. The rooms are clean, wifi is strong, restaurant is great, and location is close to the places you want to visit. Highly recommend!
- Bernardmickey (8/5): Chillin in La Paz - Nice place. The staff is great. Everyone is super friendly and helpful.
The restaurant has some great edibles. I like these places bust because of the chill vibe.
No five stars...stop the smoking on the couches outside so we can all enjoy the sofas and you get the other star.
- ERIC (6/5): - Selina La Paz could have been a decent budget stay, but the constant raves and music in the hotel basement every night made it impossible to sleep, which is generally the most important factor when considering a hotel.
- fjalim (10/5): Good place. - Great place to stay. There are many activities to do and good places nearby. There are a lot of international people staying in, in case you want to make friends during your stay. The staff is very friendly and food is also nice. There are lots of fun bars and a supermarket around the area
- Verified traveler (8/5): Óptima relación calidad precio - Excelente hostal, buen desayuno
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good hotel - Good dining service
- Alessandro (10/5): Super - Super hotel and staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): Selina never let u down - Good hotel like always Selina
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed a couple nights before going to Uyuni. Quite liked it, on the border of Sopocachi, the trendiest area in La Paz, lots of restaurants. Had a private room, staff are nice enough, restaurant I thought was a little pricy, especially beer, 25 which is like 3.80 US or so. High for a hostel.
- Sem (8/5): - Good value for money. A little loud, but to be expected with a hostel, so if you don't mind sleeping with earplugs it's all good.
- Lorenzo (10/5): Your place in La Paz - Feel at home away from home. Hip, central, comfy boutique hostel with lots of activities and add-ons. Staff are lovely and truly service minded, just one episode less so at the cafeteria.
- Suvarup (10/5): - Great hostel vibes with hotel comforts. Allowed us early check in which was awesome. Being in Sopacachi, it is close to a lot of restaurants as well as other places to visit, even one of the telefericos are walkable. The front desk folks are super helpful. They also arrange for a lot of tours if you are interested. The cafe down stairs is very good where not only the hostel folks but even locals hang out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Great location with everything needed! Good vibes and recommendations of La Paz from the hotel!
- BeachLover126 (8/5): A quirky hotel with great interior and so comfortable - Loved this hotel! The design is sooooo nice and it has a cafe and great food. I loved the room and the bed is big. Only downfall is the shower which is so small but we still got hot water.
I would highly recommend this hotel. They let us keep our bags there whilst we went on a tour for 2 days for free!
- mateusz_dominik (10/5): One of the best in South America - I stayed in both private room and shared dorm and I am amazed by the quality/value you're getting for your money. It's clean, comfortable, even dorm felt private (with private bathroom belonging only to that dorm and curtain next to your bed so no one can se you drooling when you're asleep). The staff was one of the nicest I ever met in South America. And I don't mean just one person, they ALL are super nice (special thanks to Ericka and Jaime). It's walking distance from the city centre (10-15mins) and the area is safe. Even teleferico is nearby (7mins, linea morada). Dont hesitate, just book it and you won't regret!
TIP: Hostel offers their excursions and a lot of times they are cheaper than what you can get directly via agency.
- Nickolaj86 (10/5): Best in La Paz! - We had a stay in the start of this month and we had planned to stay 2 days but due to the circumstances we stayed 6 days - BUT because of the wonderful staff at hotel it was a pleasure! They were so wonderful!
- milotales7 (10/5): Nice! - First of all the team at this Selina were by far the friendliest and most helpful - all we encountered were delightful. Nice artwork around the hostel. Really nice cafe at the entrance. We tried a local dish called Pique Macho - it was delicious! Their common hang out spaces are on the top floor, including the shared kitchen, library and movie room. A short but nice stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay. Stylish rooms and common areas, attentive and informative stuff, bar and restaurant at the property are good. Convenient location. Would stay again
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Don't bother going
Restaurant is terrible.
Staff don't care
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Don't bother stay somewhere else. The food here is beyond a joke. They don't have anything in no pizza no hot wings no chocolate croissants. When I eventually ordered a ceasar salad I was giving a bowl of leaves. Pathetic. The full English on the menu comes out with none of the stuff on the menu missing items. We paid on expedia for the included breakfast and we were given the most basic breakfast in the world. You can't choose nothing on the menu. 3 tiny bits of stale bread. Water and a bit of fruit. Not worth the extra money. They should specify on expedia how basic this breakfast is before letting you purchase it. The staff didn't care when I raised my concerns just turned a blind eye. It takes about a decade to be served in the restaurant too. I have stayed in a few selinas and this is by far the worst. Possibly the worst hotel I have ever been to.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Requested a late check and while the main office (in Brasil) understood and accepted, the front desk clerk was not understanding. My flight arrived at 2am where was I going to go at that time...
- Elisa (6/5): Cool but not for business - Nice decoration and friendly staff. But at the end of the day it's still a youth hostel, not recommended for a business trip: 1. Street noise AND from the club they have in the basement (why???) working on Fri and Sat, you can here the music on the 6th floor (so I can't imagine the others) 2. Staff is super friendly but unprofessional (they are many but very slow, they forget stuff and are not good at solving problems) 3. Kitchen service is extremely slow, average waiting time for the standard breakfast 30 min
- Travelover_aeg (8/5): Great hostel for a great price - The staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help. Finding hot showers with good pressure was amazing! The bunk beds (in our 10-bed room) were comfy and the curtains on the bunk beds were awesome to allow for a bit more of privacy. They store your luggage at no cost, but breakfast is a bit pricey and so are the tours (more expensive than around in the city).
The kitchen is a bit small for all the guests so at peak times, there is not enough room to cook and eat. Also, it would be nice to have more sitting areas in the common areas upstairs.
- 206marcw (8/5): Modern hostel - We had two nights at the hostel. Room was clean and comfortable. We paid for the breakfast (at the time of booking) and although a set menu, was quite good. We were disappointed with the service from the staff as they tried to overcharge us for our stay. They told us that we hadn’t pre paid for breakfast however when we raised this with the manager, she informed us that we’d actually paid for double the breakfasts, hence why we had paid more than what was on our Booking.com receipt. It was resolved and we were refunded straight away but it was frustrating.
- K5290PXlaureng (10/5): Wonderful staff, excellent location - I was debating between this place and a slightly more upscale hotel, but I'm very happy I went with Selina. I know that staff at these places tend to be extremely helpful, and Selina staff were above and beyond in answering our questions and helping us book reservations and rides. The location was central to everything and in a fun, hip neighborhood. Rooms were exceptionally clean. Some rooms are small, but if you're looking for a more luxury experience, book a deluxe room for more space and stunning city views.
- BekahBlue (10/5): "Boutique Hostel" Describes It Best - We had a fantastic stay here! It's a very cool, very friendly hostel, which feels like a boutique hotel if you are in a private room, and a cool, hostel when drinking in the onsite bar. It's very clean, the staff are so very friendly, there's decent wifi and it's a great location for nightlife. Their recommended tours are also worth considering, particularly the Uyuni Salt Flats (Incredible!).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Another great experience at a Selina's hostel. Rooms were comfy, spacious and clean, and staff were very friendly and helpful. Solid wifi and great chill out areas. Would highly recommend.
- Dinesanan (10/5): - Very clean place. Good place to meet people. Staff is very good and accommodating. Will stay there agin.
- Lars (10/5): Great base for exploring the mountains - We used Selina as a base for climbing mountains outside La Paz. Stayed there 3 times, and during the trips we had our luggage stored at Selina at no charge.
Very friendly staff at the reception who could remember us every time we came back.
Room was a little small, but OK and a great warm shower which was very much needed every time.
Wifi was fast enough to allow voice use of WhatsApp.
Food service at the cafeteria is somewhat slow.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect private room. Feels like you are staying in a hotel except for no tv in the room. Clean, stylish rooms. We were on the 6th floor so it was very quiet. Hot showers with shampoo etc provided. Great value breakfast! Fast wofi. I stayed with my partner so we weren’t looking for a social aspect so am unable to comment on this perspective. Otherwise a perfect stay :) 10/10
- MAN WAI THOMAS (8/5): - I stayed on 6th floor. It is very noisy as the common area including the kitchen is at 7th floor. Besides of this area, the overall condition of this hotel is good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I highly recommend this facility. Look no where else. As someone who has stayed in this hostel 2 separate time and i have extended my stay multiple time i would say this is the perfect place to stay. Some of the things i like about this hostel is stable wifi (was very important for me since i work online), nice lounge areas, the cleanliness and the decor, the staff are also really nice. Most of the people that have come to the hostel when i was there have always extended their stay because of how comfortable and convenient the place is. I will definitely stay here whenever i am in La Paz and plan to stay at the other Selina hostels in other countries as well because of the great experience i have received here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful new hotel - + Brand new hotel
+ Good food
+ Good location
- Could use some events to bring people together
- Some front desk staff more friendly than others
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We stayed in Selina hotel, La Paz, room 104. We have talked to their manager this regarding our stay and raised a couple of issues about the quality of the room and services. But their staff never came back to us. We are disappointed and very unhappy about the room and services we received during the stay.
1. The room we got is completely different from what you advertised on your website. We were promised to get a two-level suite with two double beds. However, we only got a compact room with two twin beds and a bulk bed. We understand that your company does not intent to cheat the customers, but the pictures online are very misleading.
2. No blanket and air dryer in the room. We understand that this is not a high-end hotel, but we are really surprised that you can’t provide these essential accommodies. In addition, the staff at the front desk are really rude and not helpful at all. They don’t even try to help us, have no apology and just said “we don’t offer hair dryer and extra blanket”. One of us was sick because it was cold at night and no extra blanket is provided.
3. No housekeeping services. We stayed here for two nights. But no one came to the room to clean up and replace shower towels.
Considering the situation we mentioned, we don’t think we get the quality service we paid for during our stay, especially compared with the counterparts nearby. So we request expedia to refund us one night’s room charge.
We hope that we can get a solution soon.
- Thomas (10/5): - In 4 months of travelling through South America this was our favourite accommodation. Brand new, spotlessly clean, lovely staff and a great location. Stayed in a double ensuite.
