Guest Reviews
- hugo (10/5): - very good room for the price, good location, helpful staff
- Eva (10/5): - Nous avons passé deux bonnes nuits !! Merci au personnel
- Elvia azucena (8/5): -
- Juliette (3/5): Déception - Climatisation et wifi marchaient bien. Lits confortables. Personnel complètement absent. Odeur nauséabonde dû à la porcherie qu’il y a à côté. Propreté à revoir. Passable pour une nuit mais contente de pas y être resté plus longtemps.
- Veri (4/5): -
- Briek (10/5): Chill and quiet guesthouse - Great room, quiet, enough space, good AC, good bathroom, good bed. Nothing
Rien.
- Salim (10/5): -
- Indigo (7/5): Nice place, would stay again - Room is nice enough, comfortable bed, hot shower, clean bathroom. Location is great, it's close to everything but set back from the road so not so noisy, the staff were perfectly nice. If you're used to staying in budget accommodation in SE Asia this is of a pretty good standard. We were only in Amed one night on this occasion, but I would have happily stayed here longer and have few negative things to say. Difficult to lock the door at times, key would stick.
Please note - there are gaps in the walls for airflow and therefore bugs/critters might be paying you a visit. This doesn't bother me, I have the occasional friend in my own home. If you are someone who would like to minimise tropical friends visiting you, book a more upmarket hotel with aircon perhaps.
- Anna (8/5): It’s okay for the value of money - Convenient location, cute balcony Unpleasant smell from bathroom, old teared up towels, smell of pigs
- Pieter (7/5): Rust en strand combi beviel goed - Heel rustige comfortabele Kamer. Personeel zelden aanwezig

- Lea (10/5): A great stay in the dorms at Bali Sari Homestay — peaceful, clean, lovely hosts, and perfect location. Incredible value - I stayed in the dorms at Bali Sari Homestay and had a truly lovely experience. The place is peaceful and clean, with a calm, relaxed vibe that’s perfect if you’re looking to rest and recharge. The dorm was comfortable, well maintained, and quiet at night. The family who runs the homestay is incredibly kind and helpful — they made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The location is ideal, just a short walk from the beach and restaurants, but still tucked away enough to feel serene. For the price, it’s an amazing deal. I would absolutely stay here again!
- H8186PAav (2/5): Bloodstains, mold and mildew, and NASTY hosts. - Very very rude hosts. Room was nearly as nasty as the staff.
I was friendly and spoke bahasa at checkin, I just got side looks and bad attitude. I informed them of a few issues: broken lamp, bloodstains on linens, bad smell of mold. They told me they DO NOT CARE. It is quite apparent that they do not care. AVOID
- Jordan (1/5): Nasty hosts, nasty smell, nasty bloodstains, tried to make me check out before time. RUDE and NASTY - It's away from the street and not noisy.
Wifi and AC worked.
Thats the only positive I can say. One of the worst hosts I have ever encountered. Rude despite me being friendly with them.
Homestay is hard to find, and access is sketchy and kinda gross. Smells terrible at entrance. Smells terrible in the room too.
Terrible attitude from the hosts and staff. Gruff and rude, not hospitable. Blood stains on the bedsheets at checkin. Terrible mildew smell in the room and bathroom. Lamp doesn't work, asked them to replace the bulb, they say the cord is broken; offered no solution. Check Out is stated as 12:00pm on Booking.com. Yet I had someone knocking on my door at 11:15 asking why I havent checked out yet. "Check out normally 11:30." Okay, no one told me. And why are you harassing me at 11:15 then? Overall, it's a cheap place and I expect it to not be luxurious, but damn. I didn't expect it to be this bad. Other local places are far better for the same price.
I asked if they care for feedback, they said "what are you talking about."
They don't care. I told them anyway. They gave me more bad attitude.
Stay elsewhere. You can get friendly people and nicer accommodation for less money. Even paying more to avoid bad attitude and terrible smells is worth it. Gede was rude. I made suggestions for improvement. He yelled at me on WhatsApp. AVOID!
- Juliana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marie (10/5): Amazing! - Everything was amazing! Thank you so much for the pleasant stay you provided :)
- Chiara (1/5): Bad - The property is not at all as described, i understand the price is not expensive at all but the problems are a lot: the fan are so old and broken, the lights broke and the worst part was the bathroom, was coming from there a really bad smell of fotten and sewage! so be prepared of this!
- Nina (1/5): Our room was completely mouldy, we had to leave early due to the poor cleanliness at this place. - We were greeted by a staff member on the street. She didn’t ask for any of our details, not even our names, and lead us to a room out the back and left. One step in, we stepped against a wall of mouldy smell and the bathroom was the worst. After we ended up staying for a night because it was too late to go somewhere else, we both got sick from the mould. We left early instead of completing our 3 nights there. We’re writing this 2 days after we left and we still have coughs and feel very congested.
This place needs some serious renovation.
Aside from this, the internet drops out frequently and is extremely slow. Making it hard to make some simple google searches.
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - The room was very spacious and had air conditioner. The common kitchen was very dirty and untidy, anyway, it's really cheap to eat outside so not a problem.
- Edward (9/5): Superb -
- Edward (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (5/5): Passable -
- Matilda (10/5): I enjoyed my stay and would recommend. - The room is very pleasant, comfortable with a nice balcony. Everything you need and the location is perfect to visit Amed even on foot. Nothing
- Jenaya (9/5): excellent!! - Perfect location in central Amed, super close to everything. Homestay is down its own little path/driveway so it’s off the main road and nice and quiet. Bagler is super wonderful (highlight of the homestay), helpful with everything! Even helping me when my bike broke down and he help to take my bike to bengkel to repair. Room is basic, but lovely, clean and big - great value for money with a big bed, shelf, little balcony and hot shower!
Read some other reviews about staff not being around - they are around in morning and afternoon, communicate this with you on check in, give you WhatsApp number and can be contacted throughout the day for anything.
- Tricart (7/5): Good enough for its price - Good enough for a short time and nice welcoming Not super clean and super confortable
- Ferpm1 (8/5): Very good -
- Mansureh (9/5): Well equipped room for small money - - spacious room with double bed, mini fridge, AC, private bathroom, desk and chair, little veranda
- free coffee and water
- we paid 160k per night for a well equipped room
- friendly owner - the common kitchen is quite dirty
- Made (8/5): Good lah - I feel comfortable to stay here No breakfast :(
- Ari (3/5): Poor - - There is no one if you have any questions or need something. And the guy is rude. We argued about the price of the room and he spoke to me in a very bad way, without looking at my face when I spoke to him and then when he distracted me by talking behind my back.
- Dirty bathroom.
- The internet does not work.
- There is a lot of noise, the window is broken and does not close.
- It is far from the beaches where you can snorkel.
- Alicia (8/5): Very good - The building is right on the beach and the people here were friendly. They helped us arrange pickup from the airport and it went smoothly. The mattress was hard. This place would have been difficult to locate if our driver hadn't shown us the way. The internet did not work well in our room, but worked fine in the dining area near the beach.
- Brittney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brittney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (9/5): Very chill - I enjoyed my stay in Bali Sari. Is good location, close to the beach and a lot of different Warungs. I made my little nest in the bedroom , they have curtains so it was easy to feel isolated. Very nice hot shower The door of the dorm was broken and needed the key to lock. It wasn’t a problem to me.
The staff was there just in the morning to cleaning if you wanted to reach them you need to call. Again, not problem to me
- Emily (8/5): Very good - The room was clean and spacious. The staff was very helpful and kind.
- Jeremy (9/5): Superb - Spacious rooms with a nice patio that opens to the garden. Good location with restaurants just down the main street.
We read other reviews saying staff were not around => The staff were very clear with their communication of when they would be at the property and provided us with a number to call if they were not there. So absolutely no problems for us.
- Lucy (6/5): Pleasant - Good location, comfy beds, towels included, hot water
We stayed in the Dorm Was a bit dirty, there were a lot of ants, you could not look the door so did not feel really secure and staff was almost never there
- Louisa (7/5): Good -
- Sara (10/5): Better than expected! - Everything! Became scared of trying any other places after this one! It’s super clean, pretty, good location (atm and supermarket also just a 2 min walk away! The owner and the staff were really nice and helpful when arranging lifts and laundry! Price-quality is 10/10. If I went back to Amed again I’d definitely hope to stay in the same place again😂 Nothing particularly was negative. Maybe only the cat sometimes walking around being too cute to handle🙈 and maybe the bed could be a bit hard for some people, for me it was totally fine though.
- Chi (9/5): Superb - Cheap. Clean. Table to work..hot water for making coffee. Spacious bed. Air con... Nothing
- Estelle (7/5): Good -
- Melissa (7/5): Good -
- Stefanie (8/5): Very good -
- Mohammed (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Pol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Egbertus (2/5): The place needs a good clean and afterwards daily maintenance. - Location and nice balcony. We booked 2 rooms. The one with kitchen was humid, and had a bad smell (oily cockrach smell). At night we saw so many large sized cockroaches. It didn't surprise us because the kitchen and refigerator were very dirty. The place needs a good clean and afterwards daily maintenance.
- Ivan (9/5): Light and happy. - Big and bright room, very nice inside. You have both fan and A/C, which was not really necessary, because room is not hot. I take room with kitchen, but for sure it turns out not to be important. In Amed there are so many cheap cafes with good food. On 1 floor you have shared kitchen with free water refill. Breakfast was enjoyable. In my opinion, value is beyond good. Some things like shower handle etc. can be renovated. But overall it’s nothing to complain about :)
- Made (6/5): Great facilities, tidy room, comfy bed and good choice breakfast. - Enjoy breakfast, beach and room. Noisy from nearby restaurant/cafe which still loud after midnight.
- Holger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sacha (7/5): Good -
- Ronja (10/5): Exceptional - the location was very good, the bed comfy, everything was very clean and the bathroom was quite new and also in very good conditions! the staff was very friendly and welcoming!
I will definitely come back (:
- Gisela (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (5/5): Passable - Bedroom was clean enough Toilet dirty and smelly
There is a pig farm in the back wall of the room and the pigs scream everyday also really smelly from the terrace
- Yayuh (8/5): Very good -
- Natascha (6/5): you get what you pay for - To be honest I didn’t had the worst stay but we need to be realistic. When i came here i was suprised because this dorm room definitely has the most beautiful bathroom i saw during my 3 month trip. The beds also looked really cute, its clean, they have curtains and a klamboo. The upper beds are not ready yet (this is not bothering you) so you always have the bottom bed (for now) wich is nice :) There are powerstations close to the bed and a reading light
The place is in the middle of the street so most of the time you are close to the place you need to be. The breakfast place on the beach (amed sari beach) is reaaaly close and give you a nice basic breakfast. Then there are some little things thats bothering. There is indeed no staff at the place, you can always go to the beach restaurants for questions but if you dont know this you figure out by the time you leave, there is a whatsapp number but the responding time is not fast enough if you really need something.. (is sugest telling the guests that they can go to the beach restaurant)
And wich i dont get is that i had to remove a lot of insects (cockroach) luckely they were really small and there was a klamboo :)
The last thing is that i rent a scooter for the next morning because i wanted to see the sunrise. I needed to pay 60 k and it was empty. Normally this is a normal price but i picked it up at 17:30 pmand brought it back the next morning at 8:30 am so thats a bit expensive
- Anonymous (4/5): Never egain - Breakfast at beach was nice. You can select from banana or pineapple pancske or different kind of egg preparation. Everything was bad. Furniture long outdated, bedsheets dirty, mold in the air, view from room to garbage area full of cocks and chickens. Loud caraoke till midnight from house next door and coock crow from 2 am every 10 seconds, in our rooms we did not have hot water. Also smell from animals. I would not go here even if someone would pay me for it.
- Beifus (10/5): Very nice and quiet :-) - Nyoman is a really kind guy. He the others always cares about the customers. I was able to rent a scooter at this place and also got nice information which places I could visit. my room was 10m far from the beach. I started my days with a nice breakfast. If you need a shuttle from the airport to the homestay you should just ask. It’s offered cheaper then the public transports close to to Airport. 😊
- Molly (7/5): Good - private & seconds away from the beach - good breakfast included in the morning the bedding could do with a freshen up.
and the bathroom could be patched up to be slightly more comfortable to use
- Aino (9/5): I would come again! - Very nice, clean, simple room with a little kitchen, and free water. Staff was super kind and always trying to help, if we had a problem. Simple breakfast on the beach is included. Thank you ! It can be a little bit noisy at some days, but after midnight very quiet. There is lot of pigs around this area, so it also can be a bit smelly sometimes. BUT for this price, it was totally fine for us and it is not they fault.
- Molli (7/5): Good -
- Tess (9/5): Superb -
- Gemma (8/5): Very good - Quiet place and decent room, located in the main street in Amed close to the beach and many warungs. Breakfast is served outside the property (at the beach). The was no one at the reception so we had to contact the property via WhatsApp.
- Amélie (8/5): Good stay - spacious room and comfy. there is hot water !
calm area
they have different options for breakfast and it in front of the beach
reliable scooters no real common area to relax (but every room has its own terrace) - it’s a minor point
- Lennart (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice Staff, fast service and a very delicious breakfast was on top of that included in our price. Clearly recommend it! Clean room, not everything was similar to a 5 star Villa but still okay. 👍🏼
- Kenneth (8/5): Good place, - Very clean, comfortable room with very hot water, room cleaned every day, no view from bottom rooms, but was nice and cool out of the sun
- alexismail-travel (8/5): Loved it! - Beautiful cozy and amayzing! Has a beautiful beach great to swim at night with a beautiful stars on top of you has a nice food with a great prices i tottaly recommend it :) im sorry i didn't have pictures but in night the stars are just amazing!!
- Gurung05darjeeling (10/5): Amazing place to chillout..... - Our room was right in front of the beach. Excellent view specially during sunset. The rooms are good, neat and don't expect luxury. You get what you pay for. The wifi is excellent. Food variety is less as they cook on order but you will not regret. Owner Nyoman and his wife are very good host and his dedicated staff(cousins) are very helpful. The sea can be rough during the evening time. Do visit cafe garam. They serve excellent food and drinks.
- nicolegrib (6/5): Good budget accommodation - Stayed at Bali Sari for 2 nights whilst we looked at other accommodation closer to our dive centre.
The room is spacious with a decent sized bathroom and was cleaned whilst we were out. Although our AC was noisy they were happy to give us a fan for cool air and when we came back from a walk the AC had been fixed.
Breakfast was included in our package and served on the beach at their other property, Amed Sari. Great seafrot view with simple menu options but decent, although you do have to walk past a few pig stys to get there from Bali Sari (FYI if that's the sort of thing that may bother you in terms of smell or animal rights?).
Everyone was very friendly and helpful while we were there, and the location is relatively close to some of the good warungs (Ole, Enak, Meeting Point).
Overall good experience, we just wanted to be a bit closer to the dive centre and needed a firmer mattress!
- 778ugnek (8/5): Perfect homestay for the value - The place is cute, though very simple. But all you need for a short stay in Amed. The room is pretty spacious and it comes with a very basic kitchen as well as bathroom. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Every room has its terrace viewing some greenery but not any kind of forest as expected. The place is good for its value and is in the middle of the local lifestyle which comes along with some downsides - the noise from the street and some not so pleasant smells of chicken coops and burning plastic (which is usual in Bali). All in all, I would recommend staying here!
- danlU2891JP (10/5): Right by the ocean! - From the little terace a nice, relaxing view of the deepblue sea. Excellent breakfast place with this view. The people here was so nice and hospitable, the owner drove me free of charge to the place in the cove where I could do some snorkeling. They also arranged a very fine trip up to the famous mothertemple/monastery on the volcano. The volcano that was a fantastic backdrop every morningswim.
- luiht (6/5): Good but noisy! - Great place but wouldn't recommend to anyone who is a light sleeper, such as myself. Lots and lots of roasters surrounding the place and started crowing at about 4:30/5am verrryyyy loudly. The area is also pretty loud early. There was a party/bonfire at 5 with people playing drums that also kept me up. Absolutely fine if you're an early riser! But had been travelling the whole day before and wanted some rest.
Other than this, it is a really nice place. Friendly people, nice rooms, fans, breakfast, good location.. All you could need.. but I just have a bit of trouble sleeping so wasn't the place for me.
- LoubLou21 (10/5): Didn't want to leave. - We booked one night through booking.com but ended up staying 17 nights. Ketuk (lovely lady) gave us the choice to stay there or at the other guesthouse Amed sari beach. We chose the one on the beach as it was beautiful. You can see the amazing sunsets behind the volcano here. Clean, tidy and safe. We were treated like family by the owner Nyoman and his team. Improvements and alterations are happening all the time and everyday there is something new. I'd recommend a torch for the alleyway to the guest house and a motorbike to get about the jemeluk (10 minutes on bike).
This guesthouse is on a working fishing beach so you can interact with the locals - play volley ball, watch the fish being unloaded, swim and chat. Really close to Warung Segara ( currently no.4) via the beach.
Look out for the small sign on the left side ...If you get to fun divers and Yoga shop (beer shop) you've gone to far.
Bali sari looked lovely and clean but the beach and view of Amed sari led us to stay there.
I would return to Amed if in Indonesia and stay at Bali Sari/ Amed sari for the kindness of the people, the amazing views and the lovely beach (like the night sky...Black with stars)
- Edwinbroe (10/5): Best homestay we've been to - Simply the best. Staying here for 5 days (on stead of 2). It's a little bit More expensive then we usually do, but it is so worth it.
First of all; the people are so friendly! Arrange everything for you, and always fair and friendly. 'Is there an internetcafé in Amed?' 'Here, borrow our laptop'
'We have laundry' 'okay, give IT to me, I will fix it'
Second: the room is nice, clean, big, airconditioned.
Third: Clean, nice bathroom with warm water.
Fourth: they cleaned our room everyday
Five: breakfast on your terrace
Six: Bintang for 30k
Etc etc.
Would recommend this to anyone. Thank you so much!! Just what we needed after Rinjani trekking.
- valerial384 (10/5): Best location and nice breakfast - We booked Bali Sari via Booking.com and got a room close to the beach. The room has AC and everything what we need. Staff is super nice and helpful. We enjoyed every morning banana pancake and fresh fruits. You have a clean beach, less people, beautiful clear water and an amaaaaazing view on the Volcano. Would go there again
- 444clemensl (6/5): Nice people, nice view - room for improvements - I stayed here with my girlfriend for 2 nights before going to the Gili Islands. First of all, we stayed not in the main Bali Sari but in the house located directly on the beach, probably both operated by the same family. The women and her daughter as well as the rest of the personell was really kind and the room we had was really good and clean also included a small kitchen.
Only negative things where that mosquitos could enter the room through the wholes above the door so my GF had a difficult time falling asleep. Breakfast was as always pancakes or toast, nothing special. Also the way from the street to the homestay is really really dirty, basically a dump all the way, they should clean that up to improve the stay. Could be a much better homestay with some smaller improvements.
- Sterkman (10/5): great place to stay - service was great was upgraded free of charge as i was staying for a week, i stayed in sept 2015, accommodation was wonderful and well priced, have sent friends from Australia which they have really enjoyed the place
- josX3028SN (10/5): Awesome in Amed - Stayed here for 3 weeks at the end of October 2015 and it was really lovely. The rooms are well appointed and well maintained. The price included a delicious breakfast. All the family running the Bali Sari were very friendly and helpful ALL the time. We were invited to participate in a Hindu ceremony ( one of the highlights of our trip), ate freshly caught fish on an open fire on the beach and the staff were more than happy to drop off and pick up at the coral gardens for snorkeling (about 1km away, short bike ride). We had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay here again without any hesitation
- 786jessicao (10/5): Great homestay option for Amed - We've explored Amed quite a bit and highly recommend Bali Sari. Clean, quiet rooms with ocean view from terrace, decent WiFi, nice breakfast and the sweetest family as hosts. There is a nice balance of being at a beach with tourist amenities while still feeling like you are in a local community setting. You really couldn't ask for more for this price.
- 884th (8/5): Good place to stay - Very good option to stay in lovely Amed. We had a room with kitchen (basic facilities, big fridge). Room was big enough with comfy bed. Clean, looked quite recently renovated. Lovely breakfast served on the terrace in front of the room. Very nice staff. Location was ok, walking distance (5-10min) to Jemeluk's restaurants and quite a long walk (app. 30min) to Jemeluk beach.
- TominBali (8/5): Great little Beachside Oasis - About the third time I have used this friendly homestay in Amed. Nyoman and the staff are always ready to assist you with their local knowledge. Breakfast is excellent and the rooms are neat and tidy and represent great value for the price. Very short walk to the beach and lots of places to relax and chill out if you're not busy diving or snorkelling.
I'll be back again soon.
- MargotMaggy (10/5): Great homestay, spacious rooms, amazing view, lovely staff! - We stayed only 2 nights and we really enjoyed it. We had big diving luggage with us and the two girls from the reception carried it up for us to the last room - they didn't let us carry it by ourself....Very clean spacious rooms, comfy bed, nice furnished terrace...after the first night we had to change the room and it was lower than the other but with direct view to the ocean even from the bed :-) For the price it could not be better!
Breakfast and dinner was also good there! I really recommend this place to everybody!
- Janko_Spalko (10/5): Top homestay with great staff, huge room, comfy bed and good location - What an amazing homestay with absolutely helpful and welcoming staff! Location is great only few minutes from Jemeluk beach, breakfast super tasty (go for pandan pancake made by Rice), rooms are huge, bed is comfy, shower hot and it is very quiet. Make sure you use the diving place opposite called Fun Divers in case you wanna dive! Fully recommended.
- ElissaSundman (8/5): Lovely Homestay - The rooms are so nice and each has a little terrace of its own. Our room was clean and they came and cleaned every day. The AC worked really well. Showers had hot water. Breakfast was banana pancakes and fruit with coffee or tea...SO yummy! The guys running it were really nice and helpful. They set up cheap transport for us one day and drove us to our shuttle for free the next day so we didn't have to walk with our bags.
The only con is that it is far from the beaches. Only 2k walk from Jemeluk but much too far to walk from Lipah or Byuning. However, there were plenty of restaurants and shops right nearby.
FYI it is a small sign outside so make sure you keep your eye out for it or you'll miss it. But you can just ask around as we did and most people knew it.
- ng02066 (10/5): Nice people, great service & value for money - The place is nicely taken care of. It's clean, and the service is more then good. They really take care of you as a guest. Everything is done with a big, generous smile. If you're in Amed and looking for good accommodation without too much luxury, than this is yours choice!
