Guest Reviews
- Marisa (9/5): - The property is located in front of the sea, with beautiful views. Ideal place to relax and slow down. Romain and Camille were very kind and available to assist. Camille’s food was delicious. Definitely we would recommend this place. Nothing.
- Paz (10/5): Amazing relaxing stay with girlfriends - The property was amazing. Very comfortable and good taste. Very relaxing ambiance The only thing is that the water is murky just by the property but if you go further out is beautiful
- Shirin (10/5): - Het was prachtig.
- Andrzej (10/5): Piękny obiekt, cudowni gospodarze, dżungla i morze wokół. Polecam też kajak i wyprawę wzdłuż lasów namorzynowych.
- Ott (10/5): Will return! - Host is really great! She was very helpful and caring. My son and his fiancée are still talking about her. She also organized us a private boat from Almirante so we didn't need to go through the main island. When arriving from the mainland, i would recommend to take AVIS rental and leave it in the close by airport. Less hassle and quicker than parking it there or taking the ferry as you can later take the flight back to Panama city. Place is really private, personal bar, pool and free kayaks, darts. Garden is nice and we saw a sloth living there. This is a place to be with yourself, family or friends. Main island and parties are a bit too far, so go there to load your batteries (or have your own party). Certainly one of the best places in Bocas! Snorkeling takes few minutes to get to clear waters and you should watch out for the boats that may go by, but it is worth it.

- sandra (9/5): We had a wonderful stay with Camille and Romain. Relaxing setting, fantastic view and excellent food - We had a wonderful stay with Camille and Romain. The charming very small resort has a relaxing setting, fantastic views and excellent fresh food. The rooms are spacious with a comfortable big bed. The balcony is very nice with a mosquito screen. We woke up with the impressive sound of the howling monkeys. The pool is a bonus and El Caribeo offers a wide variety of trips. If you like some relaxing days, El Caribeo is the place to be. And ... they really value sustainability and are very eco friendly.
- Marit (10/5): - Warm reception by the French owners.
The excellent cooking & food.
The 2 lovely dogs. Nothing.
- Gabriel (10/5): Incredibly peaceful tropical escape - We stayed at El Caribeo for 5 nights and had an absolutely wonderful time! We loved being on Isla Cristóbal - it was extremely peaceful, but still a short ride into Bocas Town. The room was lovely - spacious, with a large screened in balcony and expansive view of the water and other islands. The water in the rooms is also potable, which was a nice surprise for us. It's captured from the rain and filtered and tastes great - so nice to not produce a ton of plastic waste drinking bottled water the whole time. The whole place was so incredibly clean - the rooms, common areas, and deck are swept and mopped thoroughly every day. It was great to be able to walk around barefoot and feel clean the whole time. The grounds are also very pretty - tons of flowers, butterflies, hummingbirds, tiny lizards, etc. We didn't see any sloths at the hotel, but also didn't really search them out as we saw them pretty much every day on excursions. The service was incredible also - meals were tasty and fresh, water was always being refilled, as was anything else we wanted (beer, wine, sangria, coffee, etc). The excursions we did included pickup and drop off, which was nice since frequent water taxis to/from town can add up ($25 each way for 2 people). One of the nicest places we've ever stayed. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Bocas and looking for a peaceful escape! The only "negative" is that it can add up going back and forth to bocas town given the $25 cost each way. But, we knew that going in and only wanted to go into town a couple times.
- Marc (10/5): One of the best places we ever stayed! - Location, atmosphere, perfect place to enjoy and calm down, great food (home made) and fantastic hosts! Will definitely come back should we be in the region again. Cannot think of anything.
Niets
- Reinhold (10/5): Wir würden jederzeit wieder hier buchen.
- Sylvaine (10/5): A wonderful & peaceful haven ! - Nice corner room with ocean view, lots of birds species, (75 spotted in 3 days) and delicious suppers by Camille.
- Maiani (10/5): - We felt very comfortable at El Caribeo. Our room was clean and spacious, the shower was amazing. The design and window placement in our room made it a very comfortable temperature for sleeping. The hotel itself is beautifully designed and built and our room had beautiful views of both the bay and the garden. There were lots of places to rest and relax. The hosts were so kind and wonderful, they made amazing homecooked meals and helped us organize any tours and water taxis. They have a well-stocked bar that is very reasonably priced and cocktails crafted with fruits from the garden. We used the kayak on site to explore the mangroves. There are two dogs on the property who are loving and friendly and made great company. We loved it here and I hope we can come back someday! We loved everything about our stay.
- Michael (10/5): El Caribeo is a beautiful place to stay - peaceful, calming, well situated in glorious gardens on the edge of the water - The property was spotless, comfortable and we loved the ambience of the place.
It had beautiful gardens and was beautifully situated overlooking the water.
Breakfast and lunch were excellent and the evening meal was always superb - it was like fine dining. I’m a vegetarian and my option was always delicious.
The property owners who run the place are the loveliest most attentive people and we would thoroughly recommend staying there. There’s nothing that we didn’t like.
- Maruska (10/5): A hidden gem - Stunning propery, peaceful, delicious food and most generous and helpful owners. Highly recommend!
- vita (10/5): A serene corner of paradise - The property is a serene corner of paradise run by very welcoming and attentive owners who take care of the guests at the highest standard. The meals had some products from the local garden, they were thought through and very tasty. Perfect place if you want calm rest or use it as a basis to explore the archipelago of Bocas del Torro. To be noted that to move around you need a boat-taxi. All was great!

- Ariel (10/5): Beautiful and Welcoming Property in Bocas del Toro - Caribeo is a beautiful eco resort on Isla Cristobal with spacious and thoughtfully designed rooms. The hosts, Camile and Romain, are extremely friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts and dinners that we had with them every day were fantastic and we did not feel like we missed eating out on the main island. They were very helpful with setting up transportation and tours. They consistently went above and beyond to ensure that we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. The only issue we had, which was out of the property's control, was the presence of the sand flies, especially at dawn. Our first morning there they came in through the screens and attacked us and my wife in particular. Romain and Camile were very helpful in giving us an extra fan and multiple citronella candles to help keep them away. In addition, for the remaining nights we closed all the windows and balcony door around 4/5 AM to prevent them from coming in and we were able to stay cool because of the extra fan they gave us. Apparently it was really bad in December because of the rain so you may not have this issue if you come during a drier month. But again, this is not the fault of the owners, it is just something that I wanted to ensure that others are aware of, especially if insects that bite are fond of you.

- Arthur Flores Duarte (10/5): Peace and comfort in the nature - Wonderful place, if you are looking for peace and nature, this is where you should stay.
Rooms are very comfortable, the hosts are amazing, breakfast and dinner were also delicious.
Dogs are very friendly and cute.
15 minutes boat from Bocas Del Toro downtown.
- Pascal (10/5): Exceptional - We just loved everything about this paradise location. The beautifuly build house with its astonishing views. Lovely dogs and chicken and of course the owners which were so welcoming, showed us around the garden with some exotic herb tasteing. It was a wonderful experience and the dinner was absolutely delicous. If i hopefuly might come back to boccas del torro this is definately the place i would go to again and was the best accomodation of several high standard acommodations we have visited in our 3 weeks trip to amacing Panama. Thanx to the team for that wonderful relaxing time we had and for the fresch Aloe Vera to cure our heavy sunburn. cheers and all best wishes for the future. Nothing to complain
- Fabiano (9/5): Superb -
- Soeren (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely hosts, amazing food, everything super clean! One of our best stays ever! Highly recommended! Nothing!
- Robert (10/5): If you need to relax... - This is one of those rare places that gets it all right: the service, the accommodations, and the location.
Laid back, yet sophisticated. Easy going, yet inspiring. The owners have their heart in it so thoughfulness is not left up to chance. It's cheery, uplifting, yet serene, and the best place to relax. Took a kayak out, explored the mangroves, and became one with Mother Nature. The food created is original, discriminating, and extremely appealing. When you depart a place and feel uplifted from the conversation, ambiance, and attention to detail you know it was spot on. Really liked these people and the place. Thanks for everything!
- Susan (10/5): El Caribeo lovely place to rest 🌸🍃 - A two-night stay at this charming hotel on Cristobal Island, tucked away from all noise. Nature at its best. Freshly caught lobsters and seafood, and the best gourmet breakfasts and dinners prepared by the owners. We shared laughs, stories, and karaoke in the evenings with other guests. They also coordinate tours and other activities on the beaches and surrounding islands. Also I recommend this wonderful place for a Pilates retreat - Yoga - Family reunion promotion, etc.
- Eric (10/5): Would highly recommend staying here. - The place is very quiet clean and comfortable. The hosts are kind, helpful and very welcoming. A bonus is the great food. Also amazing view.
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - Very well maintained property, great food, and lovely view. Everything was good
- Laurin (10/5): Exceptional - We liked everything. Everybody was super friendly and nice. The food was absolutely amazing and total worth the money. It was such a comfortable stay and we can recommend it to everybody. Nothing.
- Smaranda (10/5): Bliss! - My friend and I stayed at El Caribeo for 3 nights and we loved everything about it. The location is spectacular. The lodge and all amenities are of top notch quality. We were most impressed with our hosts, Camille, Romain and Clement. They worked hard to make this place an oasis of relaxation and they continue to do so for the duration of your stay. Breakfast was great and plentiful every morning, and our dinners were works of culinary art. If they offer lobster (caught off the reef right in front of the property), don't hesitate to say yes! And make sure to look for the sloth in one of the trees in the back. While we were there she was cradling her baby! ...that we couldn't stay longer!
- Tomáš (10/5): Exceptional - its slice of paradise. Owners are great people and everything was perfect. This place is one of the best I visited. nothing
- Alon (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location, friendly staff, delicious food. Romain the owner did everything he could to please our stay!
- Vaclav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wesley (1/5): Buyer beware, we left after our first day because—No A/C, lack of privacy, no beach, food desert, poor location, fe - The property has a great view. The group of young French friends living on the property, constructing units, and operating the 3-unit hotel are very relaxed and typically pleasant. Summary:
Tragic location—No beach.
Isolated—No outside restaurants, stores, shops, or roads. Felt trapped and isolated.
Uncomfortable rooms—No air conditioning; lack of privacy.
Tragic Location: There is NO BEACH here. Also, it is VERY ISOLATED. Food/meal offerings were very basic with NO SEAFOOD OPTIONS. There are no shops, stores, or restaurants accessible on this island (other than at El Caribeo, which has basic 2-choice food offerings only at designated meal times). There did not appear to be any roads. BOAT TRAVEL ONLY, which was inconvenient. For the two of us, it meant an extra 1.5 hours of our time per day, and $50 per day for boat taxis. For experiencing Bocas, it worked much better for us to STAY ON BASTIMIENTOS (we moved to this island for comfort and location) OR COLON (perhaps, we didn’t stay on Colon, just visited) as these islands have the beaches and restaurants.
The problems. NO AIR CONDITIONING. This caused us major discomfort in the hot weather (normal weather conditions). Also, no ceiling fan in the room. They had a floor fan set up but it was battery powered and broken. Regardless, we had to keep all doors open for any air, and it’s still hot. Thus, very INADEQUATE PRIVACY in the room. Only one bed pillow per person (2 bed pillows total). NO ROOM KEY was given to us—we were told if we wanted a key, we could get a key upon request, which felt awkward so we did not. We just left the door unlocked or open all the time.
The property. Very small property with three units available for rent (2 rooms on 2nd floor of main building, and 1 stand-alone bungalow). There is NO AIR CONDITIONING and electricity and water is requested to be conserved because limited water is caught in tanks during the rainy season and the stored solar power is needed for the kitchen’s refrigeration at night. It is operated by a small group of young French friends that live on the property.
- Dirk (10/5): It was fantastic! - Everything was picture perfect but most of all the friendliness of the hosts made our stay fantastic. What else is there to say: the food was excellent, the cocktails were great, the information provided and the help by the hosts to make arrangements made it a very relaxing holiday.
- Cj (10/5): Go there! You will love it! - Very nice accomodation with great hosts, good cocktails, great pool, big garden and great food. The host built the whole thing by themselves, which is very impressing. We stayed at the big bungalow and it was simply perfect. If you want to relax and calm down this is the place to be. Food is not cheap but very good! I can totally recommend this place and would love to stay there again pretty soon! On the balcony of the bungalow we had very small mosquitoes, especially during the early morning hours (most of you might still sleep then) and in the evenings. So make sure to bring a long sleeve/trousers or a Sarong and enough repellent. They do use coils as well, which help. But this was really the only negative point. On the other hand, you are close to the jungle, so it is what it is.
- Kristina (10/5): Dreamy eco lodge, helpful hosts! - Great hospitality and a quiet jumping-off point to explore Bocas. We loved the view, the eco aspect, and kayaking through the mangroves. Thank you also to the hosts for being so helpful as Bocas takes a bit of know-how for a first-timer - they helped us book tours and water taxis. Wish we'd had more time just to relax and enjoy their gorgeous property!
- Cornelia (10/5): PARADISE found :o) - If we could we would give 20 stars. From the start to the finish it was absolutely amazing. Cami & Romain are gorgeous hosts. Not to forget lovely Pamba & Jango. We had the bungalow with a seaview. You wake up in the morning and you can watch the sea from bed and with the jungle sound you fall asleep quickly. 1000 % Paradise for people that like it quiet and peaceful. The service and the food are excellent and the whole property and eviroment means it is an exclusive stay. Snorkeling and kayaking from the private dock and Romain's great garden tour keeps you active if that is what you are looking for. Other local tours can be arranged by the hosts. We can only say it was the highlight of our one month Panama tour and we were sad to leave. If you add this amazing place to your journey you will not regret it. Everything was perfect
- Heather (9/5): Superb - We found that this place was very secluded. There was not really any place to go nearby unless you paddled up the river (which we did not do) It was very relaxing as a result. The bonus was the pool. It was the only place in Bocas area that we stayed that had a poll. The food was exceptional. Fresh lobster one night bought from a local in a wooden dugout canoe. One day we had a tomato tart for lunch. Dinner included an appy, entre and dessert. We snorkelled out front of the resort but unfortunately some of the reef is dying. But it was a good snorkel! We found that because we had to pay for our lunch and dinner the cost was a little higher than expected. But the food was excellent and we just decided to enjoy what was provided.
- Jennifer (10/5): Great experience in the Bocas Region! - Our stay was exceptional. The grounds are beautiful. We snorkeled right in front of the property and it was amazing! We were hosted by Romain, who was very accommodating. Our meals were delicious, the drinks were well made. After dinner, we sat and spoke with Romain about his experiences in Panama and the history of the property. This is a wonderful place to stay and exists only out the determination of a group of young people who wanted to live the Panama dream. We highly recommend it! There were many no-see-ums. Bug spray is a must. Not the fault of the property, it is the nature of the area.
- Rudolph-h (9/5): Superb - The food, service and location was fantastic. Camille's cooking was simply awesome. We felt at home, Camille and Romain were very accommodating to our every request. Even the dogs and cat were super friendly! The pool was a life saver, and the view simply magical. No self service capabilities, like a coffee machine and small fridge in the rooms. Lack of air conditioning made sleeping uncomfortable. The distance from Almirante, the main island and other attractions like Red Frog beach made taxis very expensive.
- Lea (10/5): Exceptional - We were welcomed with open arms and it felt like home. The food was super delicious, the dogs always wanted to cuddle and besides the geckos we saw scorpions and a baby sloth in the garden. We wanted to relax a few days in the Bocas, but this stay was even better than we imagined :)
The next time in Panama we will definitely come back here again there are little biting flies on the island
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional - Cami and her brother were wonderful hosts. Food was absolutely delicious and the views were spectacular. Free kayaks included to take out at any point. Beverages made with fresh herbs from the garden. Lovely experience all around for some relaxation
- Amrita (10/5): A must stay in Bocas town for some relaxation and peace - The property was located on the quiet and chilled Isla Cristobal. The grounds of the property itself were beautiful with a pool overlooking the water, a huge garden with plenty of seats and hammocks and a restaurant/bar for meals and games. The hosts are very friendly and you are very well looked after from the start with very good communication assisting with arrival to the accommodation and carrying cases, wonderful drinks and smoothies (the best I had in all of Panama!) at a very competitive price and a wonderful 3 course dinner which was delicious. The included breakfast was also delicious, the pancakes were perfectly cooked. They also offer excursions that feel very different to the normal tour excursions for e.g. they take you themselves in their boats to see the dolphins in dolphin bay at a time where no other tour groups are operating. They also offer Kayaks to use free of charge and there is a coral reef you can access from the property for snorkeling. There are only ever two rooms on the property so it is very chilled and relaxing - an amazing opportunity to unwind, disconnect and enjoy the surroundings. And a special mention to the care and attention provided by the hosts who built the property themselves. We would definitely stay again. I liked everything about the property. The only recommendation, as with everywhere in the Bocas area, is to get some layers on at sunset to avoid the biters.
- Syuzan (9/5): Superb - Our hosts were really nice and kind. Everything was well maintained and beautiful. The reef was awesome. And the food was really great: professionally cooked, presented and served. Bugs liked us a lot 🙂
- Anastasiia (10/5): Exceptional - Such an amazing place to stay!! There are only 2 small houses and main house for staff with pool and garden. everything is super clean. you can buy breakfast ( coffee or tea, pancakes , eggs , ham , smoothie) ( it was included in my reservation), lunch ( never had it) and 3 course dinner (25$). cocktails with fresh fruits from garden 5$. hosts offer water for free. very quite and peaceful place to stay with your partner or by your own and relax.
there is no beach but you can swim in pool. be aware that water taxi in about 20 $ one way so if you are planning to do excursions it’s better to stay on another island hosts are amazing. they will do everything to make sure you are happy.
- Fabio (10/5): Exceptional - A little corner of paradise. Great location away from the caos but close enough to access town, beaches etc easily
Romain and Camille are great hosts, Camille cousine is delicious Nothing
- Isabelle (10/5): we would come back tomorrow if we could ! - everything at el Caribeo was fantastic. Romain and Camille were amazing hosts, and made our 4 nights stay absolutely wonderful. Their place is so beautiful and quiet - we loved everything about it, from our morning snorkeling sessions to delicious meals, relaxing on their terrasse and boat trips nearby.
- Bob (10/5): We really loved our stay here and the hosts did everything to make our stay perfect. Wish we booked more nights here! - hospitality, food, location, lodge -
- Anna (10/5): next time we’ll skip the other places in Bocas and come straight here. a truly magical experience that we’ll never forge - we loved being able to wander around the farm with the dogs, looking at all the different fruits, searching for (and finding!) sloths. we also enjoyed hanging out in the pool on hot afternoons. everything was well cared for and beautifully done - we loved seeing all the hard work this crew of friends had put into their property. we were inspired by their handiwork and creativity that shined through all the little details and touches.
Romain and Camille took such wonderful care of us and went above and beyond for our honeymoon. we were so glad to be celebrating with them as they made our stay so special!
incredible fresh-cooked meals and desserts, beautiful lodging, supremely hospitable and friendly people, and the coolest dogs in the Caribbean - El Caribeo is a place we’ll never forget!
p.s. don’t skip their tours!!! we did the garden tour with fresh fruit samples in the pool and the. went for a sunset boat ride to dolphin bay where we had the whole place to ourselves. would have done more activities with them if we had more time! we wished we had more time to stay. the sandflies in the evening could be annoying but fortunately they had bug spray & smoke, as well as fans in our room to help.
- Tobias (10/5): Paradise - We spent New Years at the el Caribeo and were not disappointed at all. Great food, great views and a nice garden with lots of homegrown tropical fruit. Even got a chance for a fruit tasting. Fresh water is handed out all day long and Camille and Romain took really good care of us. Only one negative aspect and that were the sandflies during dusk and dawn.
- Michael (10/5): Beautiful Nature Lodge with Great Hosts and Food - Romain was a great host. He was hardworking, caring and observant of our preferences. The garden tour and dolphin viewing were both outstanding and not to be missed. We had a romantic dusk trip to see the dolphins and saw tons basically all by ourselves with a beautiful sunset.
Camille’s cooking was outstanding. She says she has no traditional culinary training but everything was of that quality. All the food had really strong and delicious flavors. We had four dinners there and the starters were all well done, the dinners hearty, healthy and delicious, and the desserts fun. Most meals included numerous items just picked from the garden.
El Caribeo is very peaceful with idyllic Caribbean views. Don’t miss snorkeling to the coral in the waters in front. The two dogs and cat were added fun. Each pet was strategizing for a few head scratches in their own unique way.
The property is in a more remote area of Bocas Del Toro and therefore expensive to go into town. If you are looking to party in town, this is probably not the best property for you. If you are looking to enjoy nature and relax with excellent food, this is the spot.
- Michiel (9/5): Relaxed. Personal service & great food - location and super personal attention from team Caribeo. Great food! They have a fantastic ‘house reef’ for snorkling
- Christian (10/5): Extraordinary - The scenery with seaview, a well managed 2 ha garden and the jungle in the back is amazing.
Camille, Romaine and Clement are good people as they make you feel home instantly and take a lot of effort to make sure that you are fine.
Currently there exist only 2 bungalows which makes it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.
Nonetheless it was also fun to have some drinks and some interesting conversation in the common area. Camille is a smart person. ❤️
For me it was the first hotel in panama so far with really clean rooms.
The cooking is excellent. The breakfast (pancakes, fruit salad, smoothie and coffee) is included but optional you can also order ham and eggs from their own chicken. You can order lunch and dinner (3 courses) for fair price as it surely fills you up and there is no risk of starving.
Various drinks are also available for relatively cheap price (cocktails made of own garden fruits for 5 $).
Regarding activities the owners can arrange/book boat tours/water taxis if you like.
I recommend doing a guided garden tour with concluding fruit tasting. It may be interesting for tourists to see many different herbs and tropical fruits growing directly in the garden. I even saw a sloth.
Also I recommend doing a kajak tour. When driving along the mangrove coast there are several rivers to enter. Exactly halfway between El Caribeo and the "drunken monkey bar" you can drive first through mangrove forest and then for quite some time on the river through an open landscape with some palm trees and some cows. After passing a huge liane and the river splitting up you can take the left and drive even further for some time. When you pass a little bridge the river turns into a mini canyon and shortly thereafter it may be time to drive back because it will get difficult to turn the kajak if the river gets too small.
I also highly recommend driving towards the dolphin bay.
- Kerstin (10/5): It was a perfect stay - It was one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. the food is more than delicious and there is such a beautiful garden. If you are in Panama, you should go there!
- Sämi (10/5): Exceptional - It was absolute paradise. The owners are extremely nice and they cook (very tasty) , clean and do the tours all themselves. We felt comfortable and welcome from the first minute. If we could have we would have stayed a few more days.
Hope to see you soon :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing ecolodge in a great location. It really is it’s own paradise. Very quiet with amazing food. The French hosts were all so kind and thoughtful. I stayed 3 nights and wish I would of stayed all 5 nights here.
