Guest Reviews
- Steve (10/5): A beautiful spot by the harbour and a lovely old building with great facilities and staff. - The staff were excellent. Food was brilliant both our dinner in the evening and the morning breakfast. Loved the room with a lovely bed and excellent bathroom.
- NIKOLIC (10/5): - Établissement hors du temps dans un cadre exceptionnel !
- Steven (9/5): We shall return. - Great atmosphere in an historic setting.
Excellent breakfast.
- Gareth (8/5): - The hotel is is a great location, we really enjoyed our dinner, we both had the pork belly which was great, breakfast in the morning was also decent, glad they served real coffee (the place we stayed the night before only served instant). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Disappointed we didn't book sooner to get a room with a bath.
- Dr C.M (9/5): - Absolutely stunning location with beautiful view of the harbour from the room.
Breakfast was delicious - choose an option from the menu (e.g. Full English etc) with pastries and teas being self serve.
Really lovely staff.
Lots of character to the whole hotel and the room. The room had a wonderful bath. It was a fantastic stay. Note that it is an older property and with it there are certain quirks (steep stairs, low ceilings, not totally accessible etc.) and some areas are in need or maintenance. I mentioned issues to the staff, they were really nice, changed the room and alerted the maintenance team. Really lovely hotel.

- Baecke (8/5): Pittoresk hotel, klein en gezellig - Lekker, zeer lekker Kamer mocht iets groter
- Peter (8/5): - Fascinating to stay in a hotel dating back to 1400's with a history of receiving some famous guests. Breakfast was excellent, staff very friendly and Lynmouth is an absolute gem of a location.
- Lorraine (10/5): Beautiful a definite return! - True history - Beautiful. Stairs! But that’s just me!
- susan (10/5): - Great breakfast in the morning , with the home made granola
- Johan (9/5): -
- Steven (9/5): Historic gem - Location Location!
Quirkiness of beautiful old building.
Breakfast was superb.
Bed & bedding was very comfortable. Carpets could do with a deep clean or change .
Price of meals (though good food) was dear.
- Maria (9/5): Great hotel, I would go there again - Perfect location, very quirky and pretty, great food and service It was a little noisy, probably because of the age of the building
- Daniel (8/5): -
- john (9/5): Beautiful stay in Lynmouth. - Right on the harbour, beautifully decorated room, great restaurant and bar, superb breakfast, staff lovely. Not that it bothered me but it is an old 14th century building so there was a lot of steep stairs and narrow halls, I liked it but would be a problem for less able people.
- Mark (6/5): - Location is excellent 👌 Our standard double non sea view room (no 7) was a bit underwhelming and not as good as we were expecting from the website when we made our booking.
- KATE (9/5): Fabulous staff, beautiful, characterful hotel - Fabulous staff and location
Breakfast was amazing and dinner was fabulous too!
We really loved our stay- a really friendly and homely vibe- we’d love to come back. It’s a little noisy being above the pub at night (and the people in the next door room had a very loud fight- not the hotel’s fault!). Absolutely fine with ear plugs though- I still slept well and I’m a light sleeper so don’t be put off! Just bring some ear plugs if you are noise sensitive.

- Barbara (8/5): Lovely stay in a great location - We enjoyed our stay at The Rising Sun. There was a small issue with our room, but the staff were very helpful and dealt with it quickly which we really appreciated. The food was very good overall, and the location is lovely too

- Jackie (8/5): Lively hotel in great location - Great location, staff very friendly and very helpful. Excellent breakfast. We dined in the restaurant on both evenings of our stay food food was delicious. We had a seaview room which although directly above bar/restaurant was very quiet. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning. We travelled with our 2 dogs and thought the £15 per dog per night rather steep. Although it didn't affect us the stairs to the rooms are very steep and very narrow and maybe a problem with limited mobility.
- Margaret (8/5): Lovely old pub/hotel beside the sea. - Charming hotel in a great location Staff could have come across a little friendlier, would have liked to see them smiling.
- Colin (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Great hotel, excellent food, beautiful views. - The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was excellent. Friendly service. The rooms were a good size & ours even had a small sea view. No real shower just an attachment to the bath. We were aware of this prior to travel. It did make showering slightly difficult.
- Lesley (9/5): Lovely overnight stay - Location friendly staff & lovely bedrooms. Food was excellent as was breakfast. The bar & landings can be a little dark & really needs a refresher. Been like this since we first came over 10 years ago. The lovely decor in the bedrooms highlights it & also that outside is fresh & bright.
- Debbie (8/5): - Friendly staff, amazing food, very quirky accommodation Some steep stairs, perhaps not good for people with poor mobility
- Leah (10/5): -
- Philip (8/5): Great place to stay in Lynmouth. Friendly staff and good service. - Position, views and character Acoustic insulation was poor. We could hear people in next room very clearly.
- Lee (10/5): Best stay ever in north Devon - The Staff were absolutely fantastic all of them nothing is a problem to them . The room was comfortable and excellent value for money and the food was great too Nothing to dislike it’s perfect
- Benedicte (9/5): - Lovely place
- Ben (10/5): Incredible! - The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! The cottage was absolutely beautiful and you can not beat the location. The food was also outstanding. I would recommend this property over anywhere else in Lynmouth. It’s not necessarily a criticism but there was a slight odour of wet dog in the cottage, particularly on the sofa. I appreciate this is unavoidable though when dogs are allowed in the property.
- Patrick (8/5): -
- Emma (10/5): Wonderful setting for our anniversary - Lovely historic building.
Staff friendly and helpful, room lovely and cosy with a good selection of hot drink options.
Food was absolutely beautiful and location right by the harbour just perfect. Will definitely stay there again

- Paul (8/5): - Everything, great location, nice room. Nothing to complain about
- Sage (9/5): -
- Anguelina (10/5): -
- Nina (8/5): Nice quaint hotel, superb location. - Lovely breakfast, friendly staff, quaint hotel, comfy bed, lovely clean sheets and towels, super view, amazing location. Cramped dining room, expensive small mediocre desserts, no proper shower in bedroom or extractor fan, thin walls between bedrooms, bedroom was very small.
- cathy (8/5): Excellent location and very characterful hotel - Exception location . Very old hotel full of character . We had a great room with a bath . Food was good as was breakfast and staff lovely and accommodating
- Stuart (10/5): -

- Michael (8/5): - Always great, excellent new manager very welcoming and good quality food
- Elizabeth (10/5): Would love to visit again & hopefully we can stay longer - The room was spotless, it was cosy, had everything we needed, we didn't have breakfast as we left early because I wasn't well, which we both were bitterly disappointed, Lynmouth is a beautiful place Everything was exceptional
- Nix and Lizzie (8/5): -
- Russell (9/5): -
- Belinda Jane (10/5): Back to where we started, 44 years ago! - The village and walks
- Ian (9/5): - Great location. Friendly staff Nothing
- Julie (9/5): Lovely accommodation with old world charm and delicious food. - We received a friendly welcome. We had dinner in the pub. The food was tasty and cooked to perfection mmm . The room had a comfortable double bed with an ensuite bathroom. There was tea and coffee making equipment in the room. There was a view of the estuary and sea although the bedroom window was at floor level. The morning breakfast was included in the price. There was a choice of breakfast continental and cooked. The staff were friendly and welcoming at all times. It might have been difficult to park in the summer season.
- murray (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): -
- Timothy (10/5): great hotel/pub stay - excellent hotel/pub to stay on the seafront - ample on street parking plus two car parks not far away (one with car chargers) Wxcellent froom in the restaurant and a great breakfast nothing - but the stairs up to the rooms are narrow and a little steep - the staff did take our bags up for us - excellent!
- Annear (7/5): Friendly staff superb location would recommend and definatly will go back again. - Exellent choice food was nice but warm /cold at breakfast Room could have been bigger but understand its a old property with character very clean and cosy food could have been hotter breakfasts were nice but on the verge of cold
- John (6/5): -
- Philippa (8/5): Excellent hotel for a short break - View from the room was wonderful - right over the harbour. Our room was extremely comfortable and despite being over the bar, we heard very little noise. DInner and breakfast were really excellent and so much better than anticipated.
- Kevin (10/5): A great romantic getaway - Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The food was outstanding. The view over the harbour was really lovely. The building itself was quirky - just mind your head! There wasn't really anything to complain about.
- Julka (8/5): - Beautiful location, amazing sea view, friendly staff. Really worth visiting. The food is not as it was, breakfast was " just enough " to get you going.
- Virginie (10/5): Très bon moment passé ici - Génial, personnel très sympa, chambres confortables, très bien situé, très bonne ambiance Rien
- Chris (7/5): - Location was good, room comfortable but a little cramped. Bathroom good, recently updated I guess.
- Mary (4/5): Only as a last resort - Location The room was very small and was poorly maintained and decorated. Not at all like the photographs. The breakfast we very poor and the dining room looked shabby and unclean. Food was unexceptional.
- Stephen (7/5): Refurbishments need completing. - It was a good location and the staff were very accommodating. We upgraded to a sea view room which, while so much better than the other rooms, meant you could see the water through a very low small window. It also didn't help that the building front is covered in scaffolding. Our double bed was small and other than the bathroom everything was in serious need of refurbishment.
- Belinda (6/5): Disappointed by view being obscured and not as promised - It’s a lovely old pub with several cottages attached right next to the harbour. Stayed there before so bought a night for my daughter and boyfriend as a birthday treat Paid extra for a sea view room. Questioned hotel about this and was told this room would not be affected and probably no scaffolding by the time of the booking. Sadly the scaffolding was obstructing the sea view quite a lot .
- Dominic (9/5): Very friendly and welcoming place - Dinner was superb
- Sally (9/5): Lovely hotel/pub in fabulous setting - Excellent food. Small rooms but that is the nature of the building. Good beer. Friendly staff. Fabulous views.
- Paul David (6/5): Lovely stay and this could of been an outstanding experience. - The shower was so good and powerful One member of staff looked liked he didn’t want to be there and totally ignored us throughout our meal. He had long hair and looked like he was in the wrong job if I’m honest.
The room was nice and an amazing view number 15. But all the wall paper was coming off at the bottom of the wall all the way along and looked liked it need addressing.
- Lizet (8/5): -
- Ian (10/5): - The beautiful location
