Guest Reviews
Rien
- Peter (10/5): - Nice little place in a silent side street.
Very helpfull & kind owner.
- ZU-LONG (10/5): -
- Alex (10/5): - Ryokan Nakadaya offers something genuinely valuable: warmth, kindness, and sincere hospitality. Tatsuo-san and Yoshiko-san were welcoming, attentive, and thoughtful, creating the feeling of being cared for by real people rather than simply staying at a guest house.
The ryokan has a traditional and authentic atmosphere, and the whole property, including the shared facilities, is clean and very well maintained. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant, which also makes the area nice to walk around. As a base for exploring Tokyo, the location works well: the metro and railway station are reachable with an easy walk, making it easy to move around the city while still enjoying a calmer local area.
Tatsuo-san also clearly cares about his guests having a good experience in Tokyo and is always ready to share helpful local suggestions and useful advice. Just across the road there is a large Shimadaya supermarket, which is very convenient, affordable, and has a good selection of high-quality food.
Overall, Ryokan Nakadaya is a memorable and reliable Tokyo base with character, cleanliness, and genuinely caring hosts. It is a place I would gladly recommend to others looking for an authentic and welcoming stay in Tokyo. I am very grateful for the stay and the kindness I received there. Thank you very much.
- Mahmut (7/5): Authentic. - The staff are very helpful and welcoming towards foreigners.
The washing and drying machines were great and inexpensive to use. I never ran out of clothes.
Located in a quiet neighborhood. It's the perfect place to experience authentic Japanese life, including the long commute times and the infamous rush-hour trains. The location isn't ideal. Walking to the train station can take up to 15 minutes, as you'll also need to use stairs to cross the train tracks. Even at a young age, it was very tiring for me.
Also expect a travel time of around an hour to reach major city centers like Shinjuku and Shibuya.
The room was quite cold due to poor insulation. The shared bathroom area and hallways were also very cold.
You might want to reconsider staying here during the winter months.
- Heleen (10/5): - My sister and I stayed at Tatsuo’s ryokan for a full week and were happy with the traditional feel of the place, the cleanliness and Tatsuo’s wonderful hospitality and recommendations.
- Yider (9/5): -
- Katrine (8/5): A nice cultural experience, well within budget and so worthwhile - Loved the host who was keen on sharing recomendations and making the stay memorable.
The tatami room was part of the experience. The bathroom was very cold. (Insulation is not the best in the building) so it could get very cold in the winter.
- Agata (10/5): - Bardzo polecam. W pobliżu znajdują sie sklepy i stacja pociągowa.

- Mohamed (10/5): Absolutely perfect, from start to finish, go book it ! - Mr Tatsuo is one of the greatest person you’ll meet to give you a warm welcome in Japan !

- Anastasiia (6/5): -
- Elliot (10/5): Fantastic host and lovely place to stay - Very clean and comfortable. Close to the train station. Tatsuo-san is a wonderful man who will help you plan your day and suggest activities! Will definitely be happy to stay here again in the future.
- sheila (10/5): Excellent experience for a first time visitor to Japan - I appreciated the attention to detail and having access to everything I needed, including laundry, fresh towels, fridge, hot water for tea, heat in the room (for winter) and great advice from the host. The neighborhood was quiet with grocery and convenience stores nearby. The metro station was also close by. Lots of hot water, but the shower and toilet areas are not heated.
- Aki (10/5): -
- GANI (10/5): - An amazing experience! This was my first time in Tokyo and I was very glad that the first place where I stayed was this Ryokan! For a solo traveler it was such a convenient, comfortable and cozy place! I did feel like in anime while coming home and experiencing traditional Japanese Ryokan! Also Mr.Tatsuya was incredibly hospitable and very friendly! He was showing many places in Tokyo, helping with all questions about the stay or about the trip, even sending all the locations from Google maps with recommendations! Every day he was saying “itterashai” when I was going out of the house and saying “ittekimas” - it was a little thing yet I actually felt like local living in Japan! :) And I also really enjoyed sleeping on traditional tatami, I slept like a baby!! Very thankful for such an incredible experience and highly recommend this place
- Marion (10/5): -
- Anika (7/5): - Really helpful man running the place; he would give you a bunch of recommendations to whatever area you were exploring that day. Private room was sizable so I had space to spread out my luggage. (Not sure if all rooms are that size though) Heating/cooling controlled by you in room. Was expecting it to be a homey-er vibe and rarely bumped into other occupants (which was fine by me at this point in my trip) The least cozy and personal feeling than all my previous hostels but it had everything one needed.
The walk to the subway station got a bit old (14 min walk away) as I would have to go up and down a bunch of stairs each time.
- Alessandra (10/5): -
- joe (10/5): simple, very friendly, well located, englsh speaking, strongly recomended -
- Andrej (9/5): Best customer service for the money - The host was the friendliest guy I've had in my travels. Always ready to help you out and advise on where to go. He even helped me carry my suitcase to train station after I checked out. Better customer service than fancy hotels :)
I slept pretty well. It's not a great place to do work though.
You take a clean towel from a shared space whenever you need. Again a luxury compared to other places where you're stuck with one towel for the whole duration. 2 things - the common areas are cold! And it was only mid November, it must be freezing there in December. Getting out of hot shower into the cold wasn't the best but manageable.
The wifi also stopped working a few times.
- Shanbhag (10/5): -
- Alvaro (8/5): -
- raul (10/5): - Really good value place. The owner speaks english and he has a lot of recommendations for restaurants or just stuff to do in general. Definitely a good place to stay in tokyo.
- Nadja (10/5): -
- Ilan (9/5): -
- Tzuyuan (10/5): - Traditional tatami one-bedroom — great value and very comfortable.
What really makes this place special is the owner: he introduces you to traditional Japanese customs, shares local tips and stories, and gives excellent advice on where to eat(depenfing on your budget), what to do(with your preferences), and what to avoid. Perfect if you have a loose plan and want an authentic, local Tokyo experience.
- Mary Ann (10/5): First trip to Tokyo, Japan! - I do not know where to start, the host is very friendly and very attentive to give you recommendations and help you in whatever you need, the rooms are in traditional style, very clean and comfortable with everything you need to rest (futon, air conditioning, TV, space to accommodate suitcases and clothes), the bathrooms are shared and super clean, you can wash and dry your clothes on site, the neighborhood is quiet and very close to supermarkets, restaurants, Onsen and transportation (both metro and bus). No comments, our experience was excellent
- Jerry (10/5): -
- Ventura (10/5): Amazing staff and calm neighbourhood. - This place is amazing! The location is great, close to two metro/train stations and not far from Asakusa, Akihabara, and Ueno. It’s a very calm neighborhood, and I had no problems at all. But the best part was the staff! The owner was super lovely and gave me tips on places to visit every day, depending on where I was headed and he was there to help basically 24/7. When I was leaving, he even helped me carry my luggage from the hotel to the train station. This place is perfect for a long stay: fresh towels every day, good AC, good Wi-Fi, comfortable rooms and close to both a 7-Eleven and a Lawson. Nothing to complain.
- Isaac (9/5): Cozy! - Staying at this traditional ryokan for my first stay in Japan is an experience I wouldn't trade for any 5-star hotel. Felt a little sore after sleeping on the floor, but it comes with the territory.
- Jiří (10/5): Perfect stay in Tokyo - The host is very friendly and helpful, helped with planning and recommended great places to visit. The room was cozy and the accommodation had everything I needed and more. It was a great first introduction to Tokyo and the surrounding area. Squeaky floor, haha...
- Aleksey (10/5): Absolutely recommend for alone travelers and slightly longer stay - This was booked for my sister who was traveling alone. Her review is: A perfect blend of traditional furnishings (tatami rooms with futons) and modern amenities (showers, fridge, washer, dryer). Whatever extra needs you have, the proprietor, Tatsuo-san, will make it happen. The man never sleeps and makes you feel 100% taken care of. His wife is seldom there, but her hand is felt throughout the house and in the way the place is run. Just follow the (few, reasonable) house rules, and you will have your own perfect quiet island
- Bartosz (10/5): Amazing time - Great place to stay, old japanese style, very atmospheric, good location, cheap supermarket nearby.
But what adds to the magic and power of this place is the host - Mr. Tatsuo. An amazing man, who from the first minutes of my stay was extremely helpful and immediately showed me interesting places nearby. But not only nearby, every time I went somewhere, Mr. Tatsuo would show me and suggest interesting points of interest in the particular place in Tokyo I happened to be heading to. As a result, this place will stay in my memory for a very long time. I can recommend it to anyone who respects japanese culture and wanted to learn more about it.
- Roberto (10/5): It was a pleasure to meet the owner of this Ryokan, a very kind person ready to help you in any way. -
- Abraham (9/5): Comfortable, cozy, and great value. Book it if there are any spots available. - I normally don't write reviews for things, but it would leave a bad taste in my mouth if I didn't, considering my wonderful 3-week experience here. The tatami matting and futon laid on the floor were very comfortable, one of the best things I've ever slept on. I also enjoyed Tatsuo's (the owner) friendly personality and deep in-depth knowledge of lesser-known spots of Tokyo. It's quite clear that he has a genuine love for people and truly wishes for them to learn about Japanese culture. Despite travelling solo, I did not feel alone as I was always greeted and sent off during my daily excursions in the city. Tatsuo also helped me get back to the airport by calling in a cab as well as helping me with my luggage. The price was also more than fair considering location and comfort. The building itself is relatively old and made with wood so you can hear footsteps and walls were not very soundproof. Personally I am very quiet and don't really mind the noise too much - especially for the price. Fridges were shared and you could not cook in the inn. It's a small gripe but you can easily make do by going out to eat.
- Michael (10/5): Amazing Ryokan hospitality experience off the beaten track - Out of all the many places I have stayed at so far, this was the nicest experience in terms of hospitality. The owner is really an amazing host and goes out of his way to accommodate. He gives great advices on what to do and see in which neighborhoods and always made sure to welcome me when I came back to the hostel or to see me off with a small blessing every time I left. He also helped me out a lot by organizing a taxi so that I could catch a super early flight - and then he came to see me off in the morning as well.
Other points:
- The rooms are small (well, Japan!) but clean, as is the rest of the accomodation.
- The walls are quite thin, but I had no issue with noise from the neighbors.
- The area is very quiet and residential.
- There is a supermarket nearby with generous opening hours. And, of course, several convenience stores.
Staying in a Ryokan is a great experience while traveling in Japan. Staying in this one was fantastic. Just bear in mind that this is a Ryokan, so if you are a very light sleeper or cannot do without a large room, this might not be for you.
Also, this neighborhood is not really central, so it takes a little longer to get to most of the sights (and airports!) and there are not so many dining options in the vicinity.
- Amandine (10/5): Fun - It was great. Calm neighborhood, close to different metro lines and the owners was really friendly and helpful.
- Ella (10/5): Loved it - I am so happy I picked Nakadaya, the manager and owner Mr Tatsuo really made my first time solo travelling and first time in Japan so special. He might be the most attentive human I have ever met! He helped me plan my days of activities, shopping and restaurants everyday. I got to see parts of Tokyo I definitely would have missed without his guidance. He made me excited to come back ‘home’ everyday with his friendly welcome and blessings. The ryokan is exceptionally clean, even cleaning the rooms everyday! I loved the area being a quiet neighbourhood but easily connected to the rest of Tokyo. I will be coming back and recommending to everyone particularly if it’s their first time in Tokyo! Nothing no complaints at all
- Ali (10/5): i will def stay there again - very friendly host, great place, nice ryokan, very good for the value
- Sarah (10/5): Very affordable, clean place to stay that’s a little outside city center. Perfect for solo travel! - 10 minute walk to the station. Quiet area. Amenities were just what I needed for a solo trip to Tokyo for a week. Older building, but everything was kept neat and tidy. Had a rustic feel to the place. Not many restaurants/cafes in the area. There is a grocery store nearby though.
- Bartłomiej (10/5): Wonderful place with cozy and calm atmosphere, comfrortable beds, good location and amazing host! - Wonderful place to stay – it's close to the station, it has a calm and cozy atmosphere, and it is clean. If you are afraid of sleeping on the ground, don't be – the beds are super comfortable and better than most of 'standard' beds I slept in. Also, the host is just amazing. He helped us whenever we needed, and recommended awesome places we would never know about otherwise. Best host I ever met, thank you Tatsuo! Nothing.
- Cl (10/5): Exceptional - The host is very kind and recommend a lot of interesting spots to visit, and the hostel location is very convenient (around 10 minutes from subway)and it also has supermarket nearby it. No
- Ulf (10/5): The host ist really nice and helpful! -
- Alipeti (10/5): I enjoyed my stay at ryokan. It was a nice and quiet spot and it isn’t too far from central Tokyo. - I liked everything about the hotel.
- Kelly (10/5): Recommend! - Exactly as described and shown in photos. The room and all of the shared areas were always clean. The host was amazing and showed us true hospitality! This man is a well of knowledge and can help you with quite literally anything you need to know. We were given so many awesome recommendations everyday for different areas we wanted to go. We were also blessed everytime we left the house and welcomed every time we returned. Can highly recommend this stay! As described the building is very old so depending on who else is staying will depend on how much noise there is.
- Lukas (10/5): Exceptional - The ryokan owner is very friendly, even helping you picking out what you can do in specific areas of Tokyo, where to eat and more. The ryokan itself was very comfy, the room had a 3 layered futon and soft blanket. Also very affordable, even for a uni student like me
- Woods (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dat (9/5): Comfortable stay with great host - -Most helpful and attentive host I ever had. Even as someone who went to Tokyo multiple times, I was surprised by the sheer number of suggestions and secret spots Mr Tatsuo could recommend in most areas in Tokyo
-Extremely comfortable futon (3 layers, no less!). I can't overstate that it was pretty much as comfortable as my mattress bed at home which really surprised me.
-Facilities were very clean and perfectly operational, with laundry, towels, microwave also at your disposal
-Close to the metro and JR station
-There are 2 supermarkets and few conbini nearby in case you need to buy food and other stuff
-The neighborhood is pretty quiet -Due to the authentic ryokan experience, the unfortunate drawback is that the flooring and stairs creak a bit loudly upon stepping on them, which can be heard from most rooms. As such, I'd recommend to be mindful of your steps when you are walking, especially early in the morning or late at night, and you should bring earplugs if you really can't stand noise when sleeping
-Not really a huge issue, but Minamisenju is mostly a residential area with hotels and so forth. As such, there is nearly no hot spots for tourism or dining.
- Jeric (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (9/5): The owner is really nice and kind. Hes always ready to assist you with your needs. - The place is old style Japanese house. Its clean and comfortable.
- Jing (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shmaya (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect traditional Japanese hospitality with the owner’s guidance in finding beautiful and less touristy spots in Tokyo. Thank you.
- Brad (10/5): manager from the get go was absolutely fantastic giving me and my friend locations to go and see, cleaning was superb ne - manager/owner was so friendly and very attentive to our needs nothing it was perfect
- Marcin (10/5): Great experience, tatami rooms - Amazing place with a great owner! Very helpful, very kind; always helps to find great spots to see and also helps to go to less touristic places. It was a pleasure to stay, and I'll come back soon. None
- Micelda (10/5): Traditional, Comforting, and Overall Amazing - Everyone there is very welcoming. Whether you've experienced Japan or exploring for the first time, Tatsuo-san will always have stops ready for new places to explore. It's smoking, but I don't believe it was the ryokan's fault. Our room was facing the front wall, and Japan has a massive smoking culture, so while I liked to avoid the smell, it makes it really hard to. I personally didn't close the windows because my brother who was sharing the room with me seemed to prefer the windows open (and he smokes).
- Raymond (8/5): A taste of traditional life in Japan - The owner made the stay special, always willing to give suggestions and advice. The location was easily accessible from Narita Airport, and provided good subway access to central Tokyo. There were also many good restaurant options near the JR station. Free access to a washer and dryer was a definite plus The shared facilities are fine for solo travellers, but perhaps not the best for couples with children.
- Li (10/5): Exceptional - If Japanese hospitality was a person, that would be Tatsuo-san. As the owner of a 90-year old ryokan, you can expect a traditional yet welcoming stay at this place from him. We arrived in August (peak summer period), but the rooms were super comfortable with air conditioning, traditional tatami mats and futons. Only watch out for the thin walls and creaky floorboards, as one would expect of an old building. There are 3 bathrooms to share between guests, but we didnt find it an issue during our stay as there are rarely people during our shower times. Location wise may be slightly further away from typical places like Shinjuku and Shibuya, but the Minami-senju line a 10 minute walk away poses no problem for travelling, especially if you want to visit Akihabara alongside a quick transit at Ueno station to other major JR lines.
As others have pointed out, Tatsuo-san was the highlight of our trip. Hospitality aside, his knowledge as a local (and capability to speak fluent English) gave us so many recommendations that you wont be able to find elsewhere. We always find the opportunity to speak with him about places to visit and eat, which wasn’t hard at all as he always greeted us whenever we left and came back.
If you are expecting a budget-friendly and non-touristy visit to Japan, this is the place for you. Arigatou gozaimasu, Tatsuo-san!!
- Oren (9/5): Amazing stay for a very good price - Extremely kind staff, great location and very close to a train station.
Would definitely recommend :))
- Uthaya-kumaran (10/5): Best place to stay for solo travellers - Mr Yamasaki, the Co-Owner took the time and effort to help plan my days out with recommendations on places to visit and eat. This was extremely helpful and made my trip more enjoyable. I had a long stay and was greeted with homemade matcha and Japanese snacks. The flooring is very old wood so it gave a very historic feel to the accomadtion, something you can't get at a hotel. There was a dryer machine which ment I could wash and dry my clothes within a hour. I was able to borrow an umbrella for rainy days. Mr Yamasaki also went out of his way to help me watch the England vs Spain Euro 2024 match live in Japan. I also got a Kiribi send off every time I left the Ryokan. This was a fantastic way to truly experiance Japanese culture. Nothing, perhaps a slightly bigger common area to eat would have been nice but this was not an issue, just a nice to have. The room was small but this didn't matter since I was outside all the time.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - The owner Tatsuo is very kind. He gives us advices of places, experiences and is very kind. Definitely an amazing host. We’ll definitely come back.
- Felix (10/5): Comfortable, clean, super friendly, great value for money place. - Family run Business. Very nice and helpful owner. Small but comfortable room. Great value for money.
- Wanda (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful experience on our first time visit to Japan. The hospitality and personal service provided by the owners were amazing! They gave us great advice and tourist places to visit each day as we toured different districts within Tokyo. The place is comfortable, practical and within our budget.
They offer free laundry, towels and snacks. They even provide umbrellas if it rains!
The place is within walking distance to convenience stores and subway stations.
We definitely would come back to stay here when we visit Japan again.
Thank you to Tatsuo and Yoshiko for your kindness and generosity!!! And also for the memorable gift, which will always remind us of our special trip to Tokyo. 💞😃
- Weihorng (9/5): Superb - Everything is there.
Ryokan: laundry is free to use, owner very friendly and hospitality. He has provided recommendations for my target location everyday before i am going out
Location: 10 minutes walk from JR, Tokyo Metro and tsukuba express
Environment: very quiet after 9pm
Traffic: not much vehicle
Surrounding: 5 minutes to lawson and 7-11, 10 minutes to onsen ! Crows were making noise at 4am during the first night. After all it is ok.
- Nasrif (10/5): Wonderful stay with lovely owners who are warm and welcoming - I had a fabulous stay, the owner was so nice and made the experience so wonderful. The rooms are clean and are cleaned daily. Toilets/showers are also kept clean. The showers had strong water pressure. WiFi was really fast. Location is good with a 10 min walk to the train station. I enjoyed the Japanese experience of sleeping in Ryokan.
The owner gave many recommendations for Tokyo and also where is the best place for souvenirs rather than touristic locations which I wouldn't have discovered without the local knowledge so I am really thankful for that. I dont know if smoking is allowed, but some guests were smoking inside the room and it made the corridor and common areas have a smoking smell.
- Emma (9/5): Superb - The staff was very friendly and gave me lots of tipps on where to go in Tokyo.
It was very clean. It was a little far away from the city centre but still easily reachable by metro.
- Leonardo (10/5): Exceptional - The host is welcoming and friendly. Everything is extremely clean in the facilities, the host is also always willing to provide tips and suggestions regarding Tokyo city, which hes extremely knowledgeable about.
I will come back with my dad in a few months and I'm looking for a Japanese futon for my home because I slept better than in my current bed!
- Yash (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ander (10/5): Exceptional - The Manager was incredibly helpfull by giving recommendations of things to do or eat around the hole city. He was also very kind and patient. And the whole atmosphere of the place is very nice, feels traditional and authentic. Sleaping in a futon for more than 2 weeks is not for everyone, for a few days is alright and a whole experience by itself though. Other than that it was percert
- Vivi (9/5): I had a truly wonderful time here!! Tatsuo-san was a brilliant host, so welcoming and so much local knowledge that he wa -
- Esteban (10/5): Exceptional - Mr Nakadaya helped us a lot, being recommendations on where to go or help with our luggage he was always willing to take an extra step.
Will definitely come back if I come to Tokyo again, even if we were not that close Tokyo station we didn't felt the location were bad at all, a tran station was nearby and there were also a lot of things to do around.
- Leonardo (9/5): Tatsuo is the man! - Tatsuo always has excellent recommendations, even if you have prepared your itinerary.
Also, he has a lucky day ritual and he does every day for you before you get to know the city, he is very kind and is always pending to your requests
The place is close to supermarkets, ¨combinis¨, and of course, vending machines Maybe the thin walls and floor, but it is normal in almost all buildings that I visited in Japan
- Saniya (10/5): Can’t wait to be back! - I stayed at Ryokan Nakadaya on the last leg of my Japan trip during spring. After having seen so much of that beautiful country over two busy weeks, I didn’t think Tokyo could get better than what I had already experienced. Little did I know, I would be so lucky to be in Tatsuo-san’s company. I received a warm welcome, and was showed around the property on arrival. I didn’t even have to carry my luggage to the room as Tatsuo-san took care of it. Each morning, he would ask which area of the city I am planning to visit, and would airdrop me the best recommendations – for food, sightseeing, shopping – you name it, including some rare locations like the Hayao Miyazaki clock which I loved! One morning when it was raining heavily, he offered me a fresh mochi along with some matcha, which was one of my favorite snacks in Japan. He would also perform a little ceremony sparking flint stones to bring me good luck on my travels. Starting my day with such cute interactions with Tatsuo-san was one of the most wonderful highlights of my trip. It felt like I made a friend!
As far as the property goes – it’s a charming, vintage ryokan. Each corner is speckless – not only were the common areas cleaned every day by hardworking staff, but so were the rooms. The showers and bathrooms were always clean too, despite being shared. There was also a lobby-like area where you could have tea and enjoy some Japanese snacks. The (single) room itself is a good size for someone who is staying there as a traveler, as you would likely be venturing out during the day. I found the Tatami mats and the futon to be perfect for me as I don’t prefer extremely soft hotel beds, but Tatsuo-san did offer to put more mattresses, in case I wanted them. Like in any ryokan, you have to be careful not to damage the mats, but there are enough shelves and furniture to park your luggage and other bags comfortably. The internet was also fast. Nothing!
- Lyle (10/5): This accommodation far surpasses a typical 3-star hotel in Tokyo in terms of both charm and service! - From the moment we arrived at this traditional Tokyo inn, our experience was nothing short of wonderful, largely thanks to our exceptional host. Fluent in English, he was not only a treasure trove of local knowledge, sharing insights and tips about Tokyo, but also incredibly attentive. He performed a good luck ritual for us upon departure, assisted with our luggage, and even served us tea on our last day, adding a personal touch to our stay.
The inn itself is a perfect blend of the old and the new. While it retains its traditional charm, evident in its structure and decor, the facilities are modern and impeccably maintained. The cleanliness of the place was noteworthy. Our room, furnished with comfortable futons and well-preserved tatami carpets, provided a genuine Japanese living experience.
In terms of location, the inn is conveniently situated. A supermarket is just a 2-3 minute walk away, while both a 7-Eleven and a Lawson store are within a 5-minute stroll. The Minami Senju station, reachable in about 10 minutes on foot, offers easy access to major districts like Akiba and Ueno. Furthermore, the iconic Asakusa area, home to the Sky Tree and Sensoji Temple, is a leisurely 30-40 minute walk from the inn.
This accommodation far surpasses a typical 3-star hotel in Tokyo in terms of both charm and service. It comes highly recommended for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of Tokyo while enjoying modern comforts. A hidden gem indeed! None at all. I am just sad that I didn't bring delicacies/souvenirs from my country and share them with Tatsuo-san (the host). So make sure you guys bring one as he is so nice and deserves it!
- Giovanna (10/5): Simply life in the crowded Tokyo! - Best experience ever!!! Tatsuo San is super kind and helpful, he was precious during our adventure in Tokyo! The place is absolutely gorgeous, antique, clean, comfortable, cozy. Really, everything was perfect, I would give more stars if it were possible! Of course, will come back again there when in Tokyo! Totally recommended! -
- Bianca (8/5): Read the review not the score. Unique place that can be the highlight of a trip or a disappointment. - This is a tough one. What you read in the reviews in mainly true. The host is so nice and tries to help you. He tried to accommodate me to best of his powers. He saw I had a lot of stuff, he brought some shelves, He saw I was using a laptop and a monitor and the table was too small, he brought another table. The fact that he would see me off whenever I went out and gave me the good luck spark, was very nice.
The house is a traditional, old Japanese house (which also has disadvantages, check them below), so you can experiment how it is to live in one. You have a supermarket at 2-3min away and a 7-Eleven and a Lawson at 5 minutes away. The Minami Senju station is at 10 minutes walking distance and goes to Akiba and Ueno from where you can change with anything. Asakusa (Sky tree and Sensoji) is at 30-40 minutes walk from the accommodation.
The toilets and showers were clean. For the price you can't get a private room anywhere else. Don't stay here if you have Asthma! So, like I said, this is an old Japanese house and there is a bit of mold somewhere in the walls. I couldn't see it but I could feel it. The musty air make me start coughing really bad after just an hour inside and I needed to spend most of the time with a mask on. I even had to sleep with it on. I didn't need to use my inhaler in months before staying here.
In winter is freezing inside. You can heat the room with the AC but the hallways and the toilet are freezing. The shower would heat up.
The tatami is also worn out. There is a new tatami rug put over but it's not very comfortable. it felt more like staying on hard floor. I experienced tatami at other accommodations and this one is not the good stuff.
- Eric (10/5): A perfect place to stay with the kindest owner and recommendations in Asakusa! - I love the close 10 minute walk to Minami-Senju Station and a <5 min walk to nearby bus stops! It’s far enough from the nearest main road that it’s nice and quiet!
- Sevda (10/5): Exceptional - They are very hospitable and kind. They thought of us before us and shared all the details. My friend and I felt very comfortable. The only thing missing was the lack of a long mirror :) It was not good to use the same shower stall as men. Even though it was cleaned every day, the men left it a bit dirty.
- Romina (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the friendly, kindness and availability of the owners. I also really appreciated the cleaning of the rooms.
- Fabio (10/5): Perfect! - Excellent stay. Very good location. The owner was really helpful and kind to show us the best places around the city. Super suggested if you want to experience a real traditional Japanese inn! Would stay again definitely!
- Orsolya (10/5): Traditional Japanese hospitality - The host helps with everything that you ask for. He helped us with calling a rental car place. We could leave our language in the storage after we checked out and he helped us to take them to the station.
He also made us some new year's baked mochi. Excellent hospitality, real Japanese omotenashi.
The room was nice and I thought the walls would be thin but it was silent.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mikołaj (10/5): Exceptional - This authentic place should be officially designated a municipal treasure! I’ve spent a whole week at this lovely establishment run by the ever enthusiastic and full of great local advice Tatsuo-san. The place is clean, very comfortable and most importantly uniquely authentic with its wooden interiors. This a real deal ryokan and I would love to stay here again!
- Jessica (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely friendly advice from the host. He also helped with a lot of bookings that required Japanese websites.
Futons were comfy and the place was kept tidy with daily cleaning.
The stay was great and had everything we need.
- Alp (10/5): Cant do much better in this price range probably. - The owner gives you lots of information and takes personally great care of you, is more than just fiendly. I have made a little too much shopping in Japan and he helped me carry my luggages with a cart for 15 minutes to the far end of the train station. Location not super central. Close to a good amount of lines tho.
- Radosław (10/5): Cozy and close to everything - Great experience - the owner is really kind and even though we prepared extensively for the trip, he still had a lot of useful information for us for almost every district in Tokio. The futons were really comfortable and the bathrooms were in a good state. The location was perfect, close to Minami-Senju station. Overall the place was quite cozy and would recommend to anyone!
