• Karen (10/5): - Perfect location, right on the prom overlooking the sea and estuary. Rooms are spacious and well furnished and decorated. Great cafe which is attached to the cafe, which residents can access directly. Had a great breakfast butty there. Host Allison was extremely welcoming and helpful. Plenty private parking. Just be careful when you fling back the curtains if you have a sea view... you are literally overlooking lots of dog walkers, children going to the beach etc! Make sure you are decent 😆. 10/10

She gave us a lot of information about dining options in the area and information about taking the local train (we were taking a train to London the next day). I would have loved to have spent more time here.

• Christelle (8/5): Good location for a visit to Berwick - Our room had a sea view, and it also faces the kids’ playground on the promenade, so was noisy at times. The room was large and comfortable but the mattress was a lot softer that what we’re used to, so didn’t sleep very well. The staff was friendly snd breakfast was good. Parking on site was very convenient.

• Jan (10/5): A room with a view - We had a lovely stay, comfortable room and a great view. Alison made us very welcome and was very helpful. Breakfast was served to our liking with a choice of traditional or continental. Good drinks and snacks in the room, that were well received. Bathroom had a great shower, but the space around the sink and toilet was very limited. The sink was tilted and seemed to be precarious and easily dribbled water onto the floor. I think the location is really good and the overall decor is is well considered. Some small door hooks would be helpful on the rear of the main door. Hopefully we will be back soon to enjoy another stay.

Our room was a sanctuary of comfort - impeccably clean, styled perfectly given the location and views and featured a bed tht seemed to whisper, "just stay a little longer". Lets not forget the the amazing service - every need was anticipated before we even knew we had a need! In short The Roxburgh knows how to turn a stay into a great and easy experience. We both left feeling eager to return again. Highly recommended for those who like thoughtful hospitality and a touch of cosy comfort. Thank you - we will be back.

It's a fair way from restaurants so you need to drive into Berwick where there are great places to choose from. We had a great Turkish meal at Mavi. Highly recommend this hotel.

The view of the North Sea, along with the promenade are wonderful. The neighborhood is quiet with easy access to local tourist sites. I would stay there again.

• T (10/5): Lovely Comfortable Stay - When we pulled up outside we were a little worried about what we had booked but once inside our opinion quickly changed. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and had everything you would need. Beautiful views out over the beach. Breakfast was very tasty and cooked to order so nice and fresh. Car parking free and wifi included as well as amazing freshly cooked breakfast. Lovely powerful shower even on the top floor with all amenities. Room includes tea, coffee, biscuits, milk and water as well as a fridge. One of the loveliest friendly seaside small hotels I have stayed in (9 rooms). Lovely access to seating area and beach directly in front of hotel road. Rooms are located on 3 floors so please ask for a ground floor if stairs are a challenge.

It was a small room with tired decor. The bathroom was very small with a noisy macerator toilet and a poor shower. The bed was comfortable though.

Apparently the hubby is an expert in all things microbiological. I’d left the fan on for hours and the smell did not go. Had a sore throat the next day.

There has been a recent change of ownership ....perhaps reviews have assisted.???? Actually in a village called Spittal, not Berwick. No local facilities or amenities. Local publican kindly allowed us to order a take away and have it delivered to eat in his pub. Proprietors live off site, up to guests to lock up front and back doors. Feels like a bedsit not a b and b. Host was cheerful and pleasant but rushed away after we arrived. Breakfast adequate and what would usually be provided. Some unusual reviews on reflection.

• David (10/5): Lovely Roxburgh Hotel - We had a very pleasant stay at the Roxburgh, very nice,helpful staff and management : couldn't do enough make our stay enjoyable. Sea view over Spittal beach from our room was a delight. Breakfast was a full English with extras. This is a great place to stay to explore Northumberland, and Edinburgh :Lindisfarne, Bamburgh Castle etc. It was worth traveling the 680miles to visit and stay at the Roxburgh

• Mark (10/5): Relaxation - Going to start by saying that the owners have just taken on a new adventure and good luck to them too. They where very friendly and gave lots of advice. Breakfast was spot on too. Rooms nice and clean bathroom clean not bad showers. The view was just right for us too, sea view and relaxing too it was. About 30 min walk into town but again on the coast and relaxing. Looking forward to going back and seeing what changes they have made.

Breakfast was very nice with cereals, cooked breakfast, toast tea/ coffee and orange juice and fruit all on offer. Breakfast is between 8-9am. Situated right on Spittal beach which is a nice walk and not too far to walk into Berwick town ( about 25mins)

Breakfast good, LOTS of tea, coffee etc. For me the room was a bit old fashioned and could di with updating. furniture mismatched and fake plants are a no no from me. Would i stay here again ? in a heartbeat and the view of the sea from my window was just GREAT i want to move in and see that view every day 😀😀😀. Couldn't get friendlier people.
• Michael (10/5): Roxburgh - restful and rewarding - The Roxburgh was a great place to spend a few days. We had a friendly greeting, good size room with amenities and really good fresh breakfast each day. It’s a gem of a place and I’d recommend it to couples and families.

• M (10/5): Comfortable and friendly guest house - Although the decor is a little dated it is in good condition and the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable and contained everything we needed. We were made to feel welcome the minute we stepped through the door, the hosts are warm and friendly and do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Breakfast is excellent, freshly cooked to order, good quality and good portions. Location is decent, 5 mins drive from Berwick for restaurants and shops. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

• Graham (10/5): Lovely stay. - 1 night stay, our room had a front line sea view, the weather when we arrived was stormy so the sea was rough but fantastic to watch, the next morning was sunny and calm also great to see. Room was a good size, big bed plenty of sanitiser etc, we had our own bathroom across the hall which was large and clean, shower was OK could do with an upgrade. Walked in Berwick which took about 35/40 minutes. Owners very friendly, breakfast very good.

• Hughie (10/5): Amazing fibd - We had a lovely few days here. Room and ensuite both spotless. Breakfasts were delicious. The owners were such a warm welcoming couple, nothing was too much trouble . My partner tried to pay a few times when we got there and was told that there was no rush to pay and just to enjoy ourselves. We would definitely go back here.
• Jane (10/5): A lovely stay - We had an excellent 2 night stay at the The Roxburgh. Our room overlooked Spittal Beach and promenade and had two comfortable chairs ideal for relaxing, reading and admiring the view out to sea in the bay window. Our room was really spacious, clean and comfortable, we had the best night's sleep we've had in a while. A good choice of breakfast available to start the day, all freshly cooked and tasty. Eileen and Jim were excellent hosts and nothing was too much. The location of The Roxburgh is about a 20 minute walk into Berwick upon Tweed. For us this was no problem as we always feel we get to see more of a place if we stay a little further away. The views of the 3 bridges walking to and from are worth staying that bit further out. Would recommend and if we're in the area again will be looking to stay at the Roxburgh

• Ron (10/5): Another excellent stay at the Roxburgh - We stayed at the Roxburgh in Spittal back in the 1990's, and it was excellent, but recently had the pleasure to stay again and our stay was possibly better, the hosts, Jimmy and his wife Eileen were helpful, pleasant, and thier cooking skills were brilliant. We'd recommend a stay there to anyone. 10 out of 10. Well done you two.
• ROGER (8/5): Traditional style guest house - Free parking on site. Hosts catered to my partner's specific dietary needs- thanks! We had ensuite room On 2nd floor facing away from beach overlooking the parking area and had a quiet night. Good sized tv. Electric shower. Biscuits and tea/coffee with kettle in room. Wifi a bit patchy. We stayed when the place was full and the breakfast room was a bit tight for space (in current times). Breakfast was fine and filling. We drove a couple of miles into Berwick for our evening meals so can't comment on any local options. On Mondays eating options in Berwick are defintely limited (at the moment) Overall we felt it was value for money.
• Christopher (8/5): Roxburgh Guest House Spittal. - Excellant location. View from our room over the promenade and beach was lovely. Saw dolphins on our first morning. Hosts were very pleasant. Breakfast was excellant. Only one minor critism although the room had a sink, the bathroom was shared and not en suite .This did not cause us a problem as the guest house was quiet so we did not have to wait our turn. Would we stay here again? YES.
• Julie (8/5): Breakfast with a view - Local guest house situated over x 3 floors, our bedroom window overlooking the beach, no lift, needs of modernising, as we had a separate bathroom, but we did have a shower in our room, but the room was very clean. Owners were very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble Breakfast wonderful

• Vanessa (10/5): Stay at fhe Roxburgh - Lovely B & B bit out of Berwicl but worth going the extra miles, owners were friendly and everything was lovely Highly recommend you try here
