Guest Reviews
- Victoria (8/5): - Beautiful cabin. So new that it wasn’t 100% ready yet. Kitchenette sparsely stocked, wifi did not reach cabin; curtains not long enough to cover entire window in kitchen and bedroom. Needed a little more TLC then it would be a 5.
- Marc (10/5): Delightful seaside place - Comfy bed & pillows~. Superb dinner w roasted lamb, potatoes and the oven baked cod char meals, rhubarb crumble dessert, wine, and the Einstök White Ale.
- Lisa (10/5): - Our room was very comfortable. The staff was helpful.
- Patrice (10/5): - We traveled with 4 couples and stayed in the superior cabins by the water. They were wonderful!
- Rehan (8/5): - The location was great. Staff was very nice as well. The log cabins were very homely. They were a bit small but that was fine. Only minor feedback I would give is that the basin was very small which made it hard to use.
- Daniel (10/5): - Nice simple room in a beautiful location. Breakfast and dinner were a little chaotic due to multiple large buses with tour groups that were staying there too. Dinner was our favorite. The female server took excellent care of us even though she was very busy. The quality of the food was great. I got the roasted lamb with potatoes and my girlfriend got the oven baked cod char. We also got a side of delicious bread.
- Muhammad azmi bin (10/5): - Been to iceland for 10 nights. I only manage to see the northern light at this property! Thats all i wanted during this holiday!
- Justin (10/5): - We stayed in one of their new cabins and it was well above my expectations. Super clean and warm room, friendly staff and the food from the restaurant was amazing as well. Area is super quiet and can give you a good view of the northern lights if they are out. Would stay here again.
- Kevin (10/5): - We stayed one night in one of the new deluxe cabins. It has a mountain view in the back and ocean view in the front, although our cabin’s view was partially obstructed by a building and cars parked. It was still nice and peaceful.
The cabin itself is nice. It has a small kitchenette with a kettle, microwave and some dishes. We particularly enjoyed the heated bathroom floor.
The location is great for exploring the Glacier lagoon and Diamond beach.
- Jongrin (10/5): - Cabins were beautifully done. It is small, but has everything we need. Showers feel very nice and hot. Cabins were located at the very end of the resort, located next to the farm with lots of sheeps. Homes were very clean, and has everything we need. Highly recommend it, we had an amazing stay :)
- Belinda (8/5): - Room was very tight for two adults
- Raj (6/5): - Walls were thin and you can hear everything from inside your room. Reception staff was not the friendliest
- Betty (6/5): - Visiting the South coast of Iceland we picked various lodging that can accommodate us on our road trip / overnight stopovers .
The Guesthouse Geroi our hotel after a long drive from Reykjavík , wanted to have a meal in their dining room but no reservation and was fully booked , very disappointed as when I called to let them know we’re arriving and if there’s a restaurant . No mention we should reserve . They suggest the restaurant on the same property down the road where we ate instead
Room was clean , minimal amenities
- John Paul (10/5): - Great place to get some rest and sleep for the night. A bit tiny for three people but enough room to lie down and some room for belongings, practical use of small space. Private bathroom was a nice add, plus plenty of parking space for your car. Kitchen facilities would have been nice for people who are on a budget and wanted to cook their own meal but I get the business model. There is a restaurant for breakfast and dinner so it was all good. Nice mountain view at the back and sea in the front. The free coffee and tea was a nice touch too. Good place to stay.
- Samantha (10/5): - This was right on route 1 near Diamond Beach, 15 min away. We were there with 4 adults and there was an extra bed in the room so we used it to store our bags.
There was a lounge area on the 1 and 2nd floor so if you were with group of friends, you can hang out there.
Breakfast was not included but their food was great. Not many restaurants near by so we enjoyed their dinner and breakfast.
- Sang (8/5): - Room was clean and dinner at the restaurant was great!!
- tom (10/5): - As advertised
- Verified traveler (6/5): Keep it brief - Stayed in a cabin for one night and had the farmhouse dinner and breakfast. Stay wasn’t bad but I recommend skipping the meals. Neither was good nor worth the cost. Nothing in the immediate area to do or see.
- Mark (10/5): - Very nice cabins we were in. Great views. The restaurant was excellent with delicious lamb. Enjoyed our stay very much
- Verified traveler (4/5): Uncomfortable and overpriced - While the personnel did try their best to make our stay pleasant, the 3-person bungalow is ridiculously small for the price charged (over $450/ night). There was not even enough room to open our suitcases inside the room, most of the time we had to leave them in the car trunk. It is not clear how one can aerate the space without leaving the entrance door open and swarms of flying insects inside the room. I appreciate the scarcity of housing accommodations in the area, but compared to other facilities on the south coast of Iceland the pricing is not justified.
- Erin (10/5): - Exceptionally friendly staff and the onsite restaurant food was amazing. Our kids loved it too.
- Megha (6/5): Ok place - Ok hotel, expensive for what it is compared to other places we stayed around Iceland which included breakfast and were still cheaper. Room was average at best
- Staci (10/5): New & clean - New, clean and nicely decorated. Very comfortable and nice views.
- Ping (2/5): - Pretty much nothing beyond the beds and a bathroom. No fridge, no microwave, no desk, no shampoo, no soap. Overpriced!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Spectacular staff, views, nice dark room, and free coffee 24/7 loved it!
- Maria (8/5): Good hotel for a short stay - While the room was small considering the price (paid about 450US$ a night) it was clean and has comfortable rooms. Great location. The staff was welcoming and helpful.
- Shawn (4/5): - Location is good near the diamond beach
- Kai (8/5): - The washbasin at bathroom in cabin is sooo small and eerily positioned, technically it is not usable for washing face. This is must to do list for updates.
- Mai (10/5): - My room was clean, the staff was very friendly and I felt right at home.
- Alexandru (10/5): - Great location, very friendly staff, very clean property, delicious breakfast
- Dariia (10/5): - Nice guest house, with place to dine nearby. Great view, nice stuff…
- kailee (10/5): - Guesthouse Gerdi was a very cute place. The room and bathroom were nice and spacious. The staff were very friendly and it was a simple and fast check in. The shower was nice but the floor in the bathroom isn’t slanted towards the drain so water goes all over the floor unless you use a towel to trap it. Do not leave clothes or anything you don’t want to get wet on the bathroom floor.
- Jhoanna (8/5): - Despite Icelanders being more of the cold side - they were friendly here and accommodating. Room just have what you need for a night and two . Very closed to the glacier . I love having breakfast there our last day with the view.
- Joy (6/5): - We checked in around 7-8 pm after a long day, the front desk staff was by herself, asked me if we are plan to have our breakfast or dinner, I respond no, and I asked her if I can have extra pillow and blanket since I catch cold due to the cold raining and windy day . She respond “I am by myself , need to help to serve dinner , you will need to wait and come back later when I am done, I am not able to delivery the pillow and the blanket to the room. You go to your room and check how many total you will need and come back to pick it up yourself later. So I asked her what time should I come back, she answered “ 30 mins” , that’s the worse hotel service since I visit Iceland. Later we were still trying to put everything in the tiny room , she showed up at the door and brought the pillow and blanket to our room. She also apologized for her attitude when we checked in .
- Neeta (4/5): - It was very cramped even when we asked for 2 adults and a child. There wasn’t even a kettle in the room for a hot cup of tea. Dining was extremely expensive but no other choice. A simple breakfast could have been included given that there was not even a kettle in the room - but the management had decided to make the most of tourists
- Kenji (8/5): - Great
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This guesthouse was fine, it was nothing fancy but was clean and comfortable enough, decent value for the money. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly good.
- Ash (8/5): - Cozy stay
- Stephen (8/5): - A little noisy hearing the neighbor
- Jen (10/5): Highly Recommend - Amazing ! Staff was so helpful and friendly. Gorgeous views and comfortable rooms. Thank you
- Shelle (8/5): - Really nice and helpful checkin. Ate dinner in the restaurant. Food was fantastic. Enjoyed the free coffee with dessert.
- PARAGBHAI (6/5): - Limited options in the area. Petrol pumps are almost 50kM away from property.
- Rachel (8/5): Cute guesthouse - Great location but room was small for 3 adults. Lovely property location right on the sea! Had animals like horses and sheep nearby, and had breakfast for a fee. For 3 adults i would book 2 rooms or a suite next time.
- Haruna (10/5): - Guesthouse Gerdi was wonderful. You have the ocean on one side, mountains and mountain views on multiple sides, beautiful horses near the property. The hotel itself is cozy, clean, and comfortable. We had dinner at the on-site restaurant and the food was delicious. Magical place!
- Randy (4/5): - The towels are visible old with towel lint. Not to expect any normal hotel services. Very noisy when someone is walking or talking at the corridor.
The kitchen food is very good. Very homemade feeling.
Try the lamb.
- jueun (6/5): - Old room, unpleasant odor from
Sulfur hot water or from drain?
Good location to observe aurora, Diamond beach, glacier lagoons.
- Sangita (10/5): - Access to microwave and coffee maker, plates, cups etc.
We loved our stay there.
- Sean (10/5): - Great place to stay if doing an ice cave or glacier walk the following morning. Dinner is available.
- Brenda (10/5): - Location
- Diana (10/5): - Clean, very friendly staff, free parking, warm bungalows.
They also offer delicious dinner- choice of three main meals and soups plus three desserts.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall good place - Very friendly staff and nice view from the room very clean hotel and food in restaurant is very good.
Breakfast is standard but dinner is tasty.
- Melissa (6/5): - Great surroundings, lovely views, clean and good tea selection. Needs a few more home comforts and updating i.e, TV, extra pillows, better food selection, mirror in the room, etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful ocean view with horses in the distance. Very lovely place.
- Janice (8/5): - Staff was not very nice when we initially came in. Room smelled damp and was very warm (with no thermostat to control temperature). Parking was far from our actual room. No food options nearby, we had to drive over an hour to the next town for lunch. Personally would not stay here again.
- Avishek (8/5): - Excellent property located in a quiet settlement 45 mins from Hofn. Very near to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Great restaurant and breakfast. The rooms are a little old and needs some work. We were surprised by the lack of phone charging points near the bed. Other than that no complaints. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Amazing swathing views of the mountains and sea.
- Louis (10/5): - Good cottage to stay in the remote area.
- Luciana (10/5): - Nice place to spend the night. Friendly staff and because it is far from city lights, it is an excellent place to view the aurora. The room was spacious and clean.
- Madhu (8/5): - Location
- martin (6/5): - Nice quiet location. The main house has four rooms upstairs and only one bathroom. That bathroom does not have a separate shower but a soaking tub with a handheld shower head. The kitchen is in a separate building that contains a Kitchen/family room and bathroom ( with shower) on the first floor and bedrooms upstairs. The rooms and facilities are nice and clean.
- michael (10/5): - An isolated location, great for viewing the Aurora when active.
Modern design, clean, and a nice breakfast.
- Ashley (10/5): - Cute place, right on a sheep farm. Room was just as stated, 3 beds, a table and the washroom. All we needed.
- Marcin (10/5): Great stay! - Clean, organized, simple, the host was very welcoming and helpful. The guesthouse has all you need (food, drinks and warmth) when away from civilization. It’s also located first line to the sea.
- Christopher (4/5): - Fantastic views from the chalet, good breakfast. The chalet had very limited facilities but was very clean and warm. The stay was spoilt by discovering on arrival that one of the two rooms confirmed had been sold to someone else forcing us to share a room that we did dot wish to do.
- Leah (4/5): - It felt like I was in a cheap college.
- Deborah (8/5): - Perfect place to stay after time spent at the lagoon. We had a cabin room, no frills but it was clean and convenient.
- Alon (8/5): - Value for money
- Brent (6/5): - Observed its purpose. Rooms had a dank smell but it was convenient, endless coffee, had the basic needs one should have. I’d stay again but wouldn’t necessarily seek it out.
- Kalina (10/5): - Good
- Yanghun (4/5): - TV, 냉장고 없습니다. 엄청 낡은 좁은 방을 뉴욕 1박 가격으로 이용했습니다. 물가가 아이슬란드 전체적으로 사악합니다.
- Myungkeun (10/5): - Great view and peaceful place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Love this place!! - From the check in to check out we felt at home and welcome!! Loved the rooms and we had dinner at the restaurant and the lamb was fabulous!! Next morning the breakfast spread was great too!! And the views from this place was amazing !!
- Candace (10/5): Love this place!! - From the check in to check out we felt at home and welcome!! Loved the rooms and we had dinner at the restaurant and the lamb was fabulous!! Next morning the breakfast spread was great too!! And the views from this place was amazing !!
- Sushil (6/5): - Very small room. Luckily we were here just to sleep in the night. Room was clean and staff is nice.
- Kayla (10/5): - They took care of us and made sure we had a safe place to stay.
- Vipin (6/5): - Property should have basic things, microwave and other kitchen things.
- MARIANNA (10/5): - The guesthouse has a beautiful surrounding. Only 15 min drive from the glaciers in Jakulsarlon. Very good breakfast and dinner options.
- Somyaranjan (4/5): - The room was clean and had a private bathroom. However the best about the room stops at that. Although the room has large glass view , the view is not that great; rather the sun from there heats up the room like a green house. So although the surrounding area was normally chilly the room was too hot and the temperature regulator was not at all working. There was no amenities for personal food heating like not even a microwave or a water heater. We stayed at many places across Iceland on our trip even remotely where there was shared bath and kitchen. But all those places perfectly served us for our trip and we always started our day well.At this place we were sweating in sleep (imagine that in Iceland!) and started without any breakfast as the only option was what was sold by the facility, a 2500 isk breakfast that we may not even prefer to eat. This place may be priced ok for the region and the presence of private bathroom, but it's hardly worth what we pay for.
- Qian (10/5): - Just trust the other reviews:
- Great location; good price; great breakfast
- Inside room is very hot
- OLGA (10/5): Great stay - Clean, comfortable, affordable - the room had 5 beds which was very hard to find. The breakfast buffet was also excellent. Location was also a huge plus for us.
- Brittany (10/5): - Such a quaint place surrounded by water mountains and sheep. Loved the location. We had dinner and dessert here and it was delicious. Breakfast was a nice spread also. Breakfast wasn’t included but maybe around $15. Only negative was how hot the room felt and would have slept better with thicker curtains to block out the light.
- Chris (10/5): - .
- Catherine (10/5): - Front desk staff was very helpful. Small
Menu but dinner was very nice. Convienient spot near Diamond Beach. Only wish there was more control of temperature. Room was very hot.
- James (10/5): - This place is absolutely charming. The rooms have everything you need without any bustling of traditional hotels. We were in one of a cluster of mini houses but it felt like a private place on the bay. We were there in spring and the baby sheep hanging around our back window was a fun bonus.Breakfast is not included, but add it! Amazing spread for the price. And dinner was delicious too. And the staff was wonderful and as friendly as we have ever experienced on a trip. Super easy access to the beach, glacier, and hiking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good option but bring a night mask - Nice relatively inexpensive option close to Glacier. Meals available there or at the hotel next door. All was good with the room except for the ability to completely block out the light. It got very bright around 4am.
- Cris (10/5): - I liked the homey feel and friendliness of the place.
- david (6/5): - Was good. Comfortable
- Anna (8/5): - We had a really nice time, but our room was really small. Only 1 chair for 5 people and very little space for things (like opening suitcases).
- Sharon (2/5): - On the night (05/02/2023) of my stay at Guesshouse Gerdi, the guesthouse does not have hot water for shower.
Though I understand there is a pipe line broke that led to no hot water (explained by hotel staff), this is very inconvenient for guests in the house.
After a long day’s trip without hot shower to relax/sleep, We could not sleep well. The worse thing was the hotel manager couldn’t talk with us with any solutions in person when he was in the hotel. Only let reception lady talk to us and wanted us to write the email to them.
Bad experience.
- Litian (2/5): - Booked and paid in full MONTHS in advance. We arrived at hotel around 8PM (within check-in window) but was told our room was not available and moved us to another one 60 minutes away bc of “emergency reasons” (gave the room to someone else without our consent). We had an early morning tour the next day and had to argue for hours to eventually get a room at the place, which they magically had. This is definitely not a standard practice for a service provider. I can understand sometimes for some reason the original assigned room is not available and need to re-arrange with another one. However the usual practice is to provide with a better one (or at least equivalent to the original one) as you already caused a customer inconvenient so as a service provider you try compensate to reduce customer’s inconvenience. But instead you asked us to go to another one 60-mins away from the original location, which will cause us even more inconvenient. Travel, especially an international travel like this (from America to Iceland), is all about planning of time and location. If we were not able to book this location but only found available one 60-mins away, we would not have booked it in the first place. As we booked and paid in full without any change prior to our travel, we would expect to stay upon the check-in. Telling us unavailable and asking us to go to another one 60-mins away after we traveled all the way at the check-in is basically an insult to us.
- Michael (10/5): - Yea
- Holly (10/5): - Staff was so kind. Check in was seamless.
- Amber (10/5): - Very nice staff
- CLAYTON (6/5): - Stayed in the weird building rather than the bungalows. Pretty sterile and desolate. Reminds one of a nursing home corridor.
- Kristie (6/5): - Food was the most expensive we have come across in Iceland so far. The staff were super nice! The room was very underwhelming, small and out dated.
Everything seemed clean but unfortunately when things become run down, clean things start to look unclean.
- Der (10/5): - Cute guesthouse in the location we needed for part of our trip! Docking off a star because we noticed some mold in our bathroom ceiling.
- Cary (10/5): - C
- Nidvichai (4/5): - The room looked a little bit old. Heater in the room was not working well. Hot water at sink was not working. Staffs were friendly. Dinner and breakfast option was delicious but pricey.
- HEIDI (6/5): - The cabin was a little cramped and outdated. The staff was very friendly and restaurant of very good.
- Apurv (10/5): - Good experience
- Jean (10/5): - The food was outstanding
