Guest Reviews
- Kelly (10/5): -
- Laura Richy (8/5): Lovely accommodation - Paul and the team are so friendly and helpful. Beds were a bit hard but to be expected. Some loud music from a neighbouring pub but nothing to do with St Ives.
- Sandra (9/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Gina (10/5): Perfect for what we needed. - The Location was ideal for the venue we were visiting, the triple room was very clean and had everything we needed, a very short walk to the concert we were going to see, an added bonus was the bar below had on entertainment too. Would of been great if the bar below opened for breakfast.
- William (8/5): - Great stay in the St. Ives, staff friendly and helpful, will definitely stay there again
- Josh (7/5): -
- Gavin (1/5): - Booked a room for the night money was taken yet on arrival was told the rooms had been clean and nothing was available as the carpets were wet. Still no refund
- Steve (7/5): -
- Byron (8/5): A great place to stay for a short visit to Neath - I have stayed at the property on a number of occasions mainly because of the excellent service and warm hospitality received by staff. On this occasion they have gone above and beyond their duties to ensure our stay was comfortable. Nothing.
- Dean (9/5): Comfortable and friendly - Friendly staff, great location, comfortable accommodation, huge bathroom Slightly basic amenities but still good value. Minor point - the mirror in the bedroom is positioned in the lost awakened spot to view yourself full-length (right oposite the foot of the bed with less than two feet space in front). I’ve noticed this is common with a lot of hotel rooms recently though .
- Kevyn (10/5): A nice location and pleasant staff. - The location was central and Kayleigh was friendly and exceptional host. N/A
- Phil (8/5): Friendly - Very friendly, great location for an event in the centre of town. Lack of bedside lamps and only one bedside table in the double room
- Paul (10/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): - Convenient Nothing
- Helen (8/5): - Rooms clean. Still need bit of work covering pipes in bathroom but overall a good stay.

- Guest (6/5): Wouldn’t stay here again - It was easy to find. It was clean & comfortable. It was central to amenities. The manager ( I assume) wasnt very friendly. We had to have a twin room as there was a problem with the double room we booked. I told them before we arrived that we had 2 dogs & had a reply saying that was fine but she said their policy was 1 dog per room when we got there. We had to pay £15 for dogs- this wasnt on the original info. The toilet seat was broken & toilet very noisy. Noisy people above us. We weren’t told that they lock the bar door (where we entered) at night so thought we were locked in. Had to call emergency number & was told we needed to walk to the end of the pub upstairs to get out. No parking at pub. And no food.
- Shirley (8/5): Bank holiday fun, St Ives - I had a great time socially, travelling solo I enjoy meeting others in the pub. Staff were friendly and helpful, and very accommodating , helped me be comfortable.
enjoyed location, town center, train station 10-15 min walk.
Loved the big bathroom and a deep bath/shower, comfortable bed, good size bedroom. Expect a little noise in town center, but not enough to disturb sleep, usually quite by bedtime.
Plus I was out most of the day.
- Jagjeet Singh (10/5): Very nice staff and owners - Amazing location amazing staff very happy to come back Everything was perfect
- Daphne (7/5): - The bedding had marks on it & as for the internet was very crap had to use your phones hotspots both nights but the people who work there were nice enough they we good but could of also let us know about the problem with the Sunday dinners also ? I do think you need to change the internet again wasn't the best but it was a ok stay Worse problem was the internet
Could have been a bit cleaner the bedding was dirty had brown marks on it
& we odered Sunday dinner and they didnt let us know there was a problem
- Kathryn (5/5): Unclean room and questionable location. - Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Check-in and check-out was quick and easy. Room wasn't clean. Huge amount of dog hairs on the bedroom floor, definitely hadn't been vacuumed. Pillows had no pillow cases on therefore couldn't be cleared between guests which doesn't seem hygienic.
Location was quite down-market, which I didn't feel was reflected in the price.

- Ali (1/5): Would never go back. - Nothing Nothing
- Neil (4/5): Disappointing -
- Daisy (3/5): Poor - The location (but it is a very small town so this would apply to all hotels there) It was not clean, there were hairs and small stains on the beds and floor. The room was very basic and as you walk into the part of the pub where the rooms are, it smells. I felt a bit uncomfortable overall. For £75 I thought it was really overpriced.
- Kirsty (8/5): Very good -
- Katie (1/5): Defnitely NOT suitable for single women or women travelling with kids in tow... - NOTHING Where to even begin? If I could’ve given zero stars (or minus stars), I would. This place isn’t a hotel—it’s a handful of knackered rooms above a dodgy pub in a rough part of Neath. Absolutely no parking on site; you're told to use a multi-storey a fair walk away, which locks up overnight. Not ideal if you need an early start—or have a dodgy hip and knee, like me.
The room absolutely stank of bleach, to the point it made your eyes water. Clientèle? Already halfway to hammered when we arrived at 4pm. Loud, lairy, and not the kind of place you’d want to leave your car—or yourself—unattended. One look at the stairwell and I knew I wasn’t staying. Tiny, twisty, and not suitcase-friendly.
Room layout was bizarre (twin beds positioned like they were trying to form a bunk), carpets tired, noise constant. The barmaid was lovely, but she was vaping behind the bar. Enough said.
Ended up booking the Holiday Inn Express nearby instead—much safer, cleaner, and actually felt like a hotel.
My advice? Don’t book this place unless you're an SAS veteran who enjoys being flashed upon arrival. Definitely not suitable for single women or anyone travelling with kids. You’ve been warned.
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good -
- Lilly (8/5): Very good - Staff very friendly, and couldn't do enough for you. Room was clean. Being done up at the moment so issue with the water pump coming on and off all night in the bathroom, but wasn't loud enough to keep us awake.
Sash windows are very heavy to open, although staff offered to open them for us upon arrival.
- Jennifer (8/5): I would stay here again really friendly place. - The room was lovely. Clean and tidy. The staff were really friendly an always at hand to help. TV was not working but was told we could move the internal ariel to try get something but behind the TV was thick with dust. Parking is a nightmare so would be good to try get an arrangement with the multi story or the little car park opposite for guests.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaun (4/5): - The room did the job - but numerous issues.
Missing some basic necessities like a bedside light. Had to use the public wifi from the bar downstairs which was choppy at best.
The problems started right from the beginning. Check in according to the website was 10:00pm. But at 8:30pm I had a message saying I wouldn't be able to check in after 9 as the bar shuts at that point. I was on a train so unable to get there for that time, and somebody very kindly stayed to let me in, but they still contested the fact that their check in is stated as different.
Some of the staff were quite dismissive, and felt unwilling to help.
Finally, the walls are so paper thin I could hear everything from the room next door - whoever was staying next door was playing loud horror movies until the early hours, so it was impossible to get a decent night's sleep.
Would recommend if it really is budget you need, but I definitely wouldn't recommend otherwise.
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location in centre of town
- mark (8/5): - I like the room was clean /airy and fresh . Central position to use the cafe and bars of Neath .
Negative ,they did try and charge me the second time but did sort it out …
Local Parking is available at extra cost .
- Brown (7/5): Good - Friendly helpful staff None
- Louisa (9/5): Had a really warm welcome from staff and locals as soon as we arrived.room was spotlessly clean and nice powerful hot sh - Spotlessly clean modern room in the centre of town. Really friendly and welcoming staff Nothing
- Steve (6/5): Cheap stay get what you pay for - The area was really central to what we needed, the pub was also nice and welcoming The room was dusty and was not to clean we stayed for 2 nights but there was no room attendance or change of towels
- Wendy (8/5): Really enjoyed our stay - Central location. Very friendly, helpful staff. Room very comfortable Rooms are above the pub. Didn’t bother us but some people may find it a bit noisy - also noise from pub across the road.
- Shaun (10/5): Exceptional - Clean nice rooms Didn’t give enough towels considering I stayed there for 2 nights
- Evans (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic atmosphere and Friendly Staff.
- Danny (8/5): Very good -
- Danny (8/5): Very good -
- Martyn (1/5): DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE - Nothing When we arrived there was no heating, we then found out that there was no hot water in our room. The toilet next door where a colleague was staying was making a loud noise all night, the following morning we had to leave due to flooding. When trying to get a partial refund from this pub we were shut down and passed around between them and Booking dot com, neither of whom processed any refund for two lost nights and having to spend more money on a hotel
Avoid this place like the plague
- Byron (7/5): I will stay there again - No breakfast No breakfast
- Lesley (5/5): Not great - There was no hot water in our room. The beds were uncomfortable. The wi fi did not work. We had to use the shower in another room. We were not shown how to switch tge water heater on or how to use tge tv.
- Yvonne (7/5): Good - Biscuits and hot chocolate and great location for Gwyn Hall. It was excellent value for money. No loo paper, got it from the room next door. Bedside lamp was too fat from a socket to be able to plug it in.
- Jodie (10/5): Exceptional - Central location, clean and comfortable, friendly staff, good value. I only have one suggestion and that would be to have coat hooks in the room and towel hooks in the bathroom.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff be coming back soon None
- Roger (10/5): Great value for money. The host & hostess made us feel welcome, were helpful & accomodating. -
- Schultz (8/5): comfortable - The room was clean, good wifi, friendly staff , comfortable bed, ensuite, The Airbnb was like a maze. I got lost once trying to get oit
- Hudson (8/5): It was comfortable for the night. - Great location for our needs lovely warm welcome from the owner. Room was warm and beds are comfort and clean. Cleaning wasn’t great. Carpets needed a good vacuum in the room and hall ways. Cobwebs on the ceiling and around the main light in the room. Half empty shower bottle and old soap left on top of the shower unit. Maybe a how to guide for future guests about how things work in the room and we had no milk or spoon in the room to make tea!
- Dougal (7/5): Good - Simple room above the pub. Friendly staff. Wifi wasn't available in the room.
- Becky (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the staff the blonde lady that took us to her room (so sorry i didnt get her name) was amazing so helpful. The room was warm comfortable and spotless. I've stayed in other hotels in neath but never stayed full night because I was either cold or it was uncomfortable to sleep. Love the Ives stayed all night and had good sleep. Will deff be staying here everytime I go. There wasn't anything we didnt like
