Guest Reviews
- Mike (8/5): - Staff and atmosphere. Age of the main building was a delight but meant that our bathroom was outside of our room. The annex has ensuite bathrooms.
- Cagri (10/5): Fantastic stay. - Proper English None.
- Aurelie (8/5): -
- Graham (7/5): Very good would stay again. - The staff were excellent, the food was great overall we had a lovely stay but the room was a little on the small side. The room was lovely and clean but a bit small.
- Hans (10/5): In één woord geweldig, we komen hier vast en zeker terug! - Super vriendelijk personeel! Locatie is geweldig en eten is voortreffelijk! Kamers perfect. Wellicht afhankelijk welke kamer je boekt maar de douche was niet ruim en douchen moest in bad.
- Robert (10/5): A lovely relaxing weekend shared with friends from Australia and showing them Suffolk.. A luxury retreat in the middle o - Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, especially about the wines. Accommodation and food were top-notch as always. Need to brush off some of the cobwebs in the garden area leading to the accommodation, but also appreciate that part of being in the country
- Peter (10/5): - Very friendly hosts
- Martin (9/5): -
- Christan (9/5): Lovely hotel - No issues all good No private bathroom
- Peter (9/5): Perfect for a relaxing break in a quiet location with excellent food and service - My wife and I visited for a 3 day break. The village is small and charming and in a quiet location with easy access to Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds and a couple of historic houses. The lovely14th C Inn is managed by Jack and Jess who made us very welcome. Jack took our luggage from the car to our room. Nothing was too much trouble.
We stayed in the ensuite garden room, Orwell, which was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. It was only a very short walk to the bar and restaurant in the main building.
Service for breakfast and the evening meal was excellent and attentive whilst not being intrusive, creating a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
The food was delicious thanks to the skills of the chef Sam Glover.
Overall it was clear a lot of effort has been put into making a stay as enjoyable as possible. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.
- Veena (9/5): A beautiful inn with delicious food! - The inn is in a beautiful location, and has incredible food! The staff were extremely kind and welcoming. Thanks for a lovely stay!
- Allen (9/5): - Beautiful authentic pub in the Suffolk country. Excellent staff. Very welcoming. Breakfast was lovely, hot and fresh, not reheated from earlier cooking! Highly recommended. Nothing! It was great.
- Victoria (8/5): Outstanding food - particularly deserts and great quality produce. Room small - The welcome and hospitality was excellent. Comfortable bed and good quality bedding.
Food is excellent, deserts are to die for and breakfast excellent with just the best quality local produce.
Location is beautiful and the drinks selection is excellent - outstanding wine including hughe selection by the glass - and non alcoholic gin. We would return to eat. The room was small. Shared bathroom - we did know the latter when we booked. Spoilt by some other guests who had no consideration for others but not to be clear this is not the hotel's fault.
Whilst hospitality was a very high standard in the main, we weren't asked our choice of eggs at breakfast.
- Rick (10/5): Genoten - Super vriendelijke gastheer en een geweldig sfeervol hotel. Restaurant echt top en de bar ook. Heel leuk voor fietsers!
- Gray (9/5): -
- Cornish (9/5): Fabulous pub - The welcome, the food , the drinks, the room. Only downside for us was that the beds are all 4.6 double's, we struggled with that as used to at least a king size.
- Louisa (10/5): The perfect night away from start to finish - absolutely wonderful - A friendly warm welcome, a stunning room which was clean, cozy and beautifully decorated. Our meal was undoubtedly one of the best meals I have ever eaten in my life. We visited to celebrate a special occasion and from start to finish, The Peacock Inn was fantastic. The staff lead by Jack exceptional, the food exquisite and the decor, and ambience perfect. What a little gem. We can’t recommend highly enough and will certainly be returning very soon. Everything was just superb !!
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (6/5): Ok but not the best, very friendly staff though. - Very friendly staff. Comfortable bed. No ensuite (my mistake when booking probably), rooms quite small, extension lead just hanging down looks tatty. Window difficult to keep open and room was incredibly hot, luckily a fan was supplied. No hairdryer. Breakfast was tasty, but no continental option, only cooked.
- Cornish (10/5): Exceptional - Very cosy and exceptionally friendly and professional service, nothing too much trouble and the best pub food I have eaten anywhere. Would have preferred a king size bed as a double is very small for two adults.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (10/5): Couples weekend break - Gorgeous old pub full of charm. The service from Jack, Annabel and team is first class, really friendly and professional.
The garden rooms are lovely and well equipped with tea, coffee etc.
The food in the restaurant is superb, some of the best I’ve had and they go the extra mile to accommodate you if something on the menu needs tweaking ( I had a sauce removed due to shellfish allergy).
Breakfast was delicious and the freshly baked soda bread is gorgeous. N/A
- John (10/5): Lovely stay with very kind and attentive staffs and excellent dinner menu. -
- Nick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Beautiful! Loved it! - Beautiful room, beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting! Nothing
- Brian (10/5): We enjoyed our stay very much The staff were very attentive and kind - Everything was lovely The only thing was the menu Not a large choice and nothing simple
- Keith (8/5): Decent overnight stay in historic building with sensational food and welcoming staff. - Wonderful staff, fascinating building, sensational food, ideal location, comfortable bed. Did not realise room was NOT en suite. One shared bathroom did not have a working light. One shared toilet left in a mess by another guest. Music and voices from bar/kitchen area came through ceiling to our room loudly until closing time.
- Ros (8/5): Very good - Lovely setting obviously popular with locals Room was comfortable but a little basic for the price
- Brian (10/5): Country inn hospitality at it's best, a rural haven for a weekend get-away - An old-world pub in a pretty Suffolk village. Wooden beams and brick fireplace with an open fire crackling in the hearth. Friendly and helpful staff, a first-rate breakfast and cordon bleu dining. A comfortable bed, and a modern en-suite bathroom, all spotlessly clean. Overall, country inn hospitality at its best Bedroom furnishing was a bit sparse. It could have done with more wardrobe/drawer space, a chair, some bedside mats.
- Lawrence (9/5): Superb -
- Pete (9/5): Superb -
- Kevin (7/5): Good - lovely location. nice restaurant shared bathroom for price of many places with bathrooms. wine ridiculously pricey
- Hall (8/5): Delicious, fantastically comfy stay, with wonderful staff. - Perfect old inn, all higgledy-piggledy and exposed beams. Staff were amazing. Food was delicious. Beds were sooooo comfy (and I can barely sleep anywhere other than my own bed). Location is gorgeous. Picture perfect English countryside bolt hole! Rooms have shared bathrooms.
- Keith (8/5): It was pleasant and relaxing - The staff were friendly and helpful and it was a pretty area. It had good wi-fi connection. The food was of a good quality. I would have preferred en-suite accommodation and the room was a bit small. The TV remote did not work and we could only access one channel. There needed to be an extension lead as there was a lack of sockets and the kettle could not be plugged in without unplugging something else.
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katy (7/5): Comfortable convenient place to say. - Cute location, nice breakfast. Shared bathroom, thin walls.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (8/5): Relaxing place to stay with a dog - Beautiful old place in a pretty village. We had lots of pillows and a nice new shower room in our smart little cabin, which was ideal for staying with the dog as you are in the garden with your own front door. All the staff were lovely and we had a delicious breakfast next morning. We didn’t want a big meal in the evening but had some lovely sides and starters to share with excellent bread The double bed was comfy but on lively castors that swivelled about a bit on the hard floor. The room had no wardrobe but plenty of drawers and hooks.
- Shawn (7/5): A beautiful place with wonderful and friendly staff - Sadly the breakfast was not good. The bacon was overcooked. The mushroom was very tasteless. The tomato's and hash brown however were beautiful. The coffee also was of a poor standard and cold.
The staff were wonderful though as was the pub and setting The breakfast.
- Anthony (9/5): Superb -
- Marion (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - This was such a great find. Wonderful atmosphere, staff friendly, polite and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing the knowledgeable General Manager, Jack was able to suggest pairing the best wines to complement our food! The quality of produce was of a high standard. We were not disappointed with our full English breakfast, again good quality produce, the taste was excellent. We will most definitely return!
- Hugh (10/5): Comfortable and charming stay at The Peacock. - The Peacock is an excellent place to stay. The staff are really friendly and very professional. The food was excellent. The room charmingly, beautifully furnished, and very comfortable. I would recommend The Peacock tp anyone.
- Jane (9/5): Lovely! - The room was spacious, well-appointed, clean, all fine. What made the stay was the friendliness of the staff, the general atmosphere and most of all, the food which was excellent. Would definitely stay there again. And it's in a sweet location and with a pretty beer garden. Nothing.
- Nicholas (10/5): an extremely pleasurable experience - The manager, Jack and his team made us very welcome from the start; despite an ongoing reception he made sure we were well settled in. the food was also excellent and the serving staff knowledgable and willing to help. nothing
- Richard (9/5): A very pleasant stay. Look forward to staying again or recommending to others. - Full of character, with lots of oak beams. Very old, yet comfortable. Very good food in the evening and for breakfast. Very pretty village in a peaceful location. Very minor thing. Ceiling paint beginning to peel. Needs repainting.
- Gaynor (10/5): Jack the manager was brilliant and compliments to the chef for brilliant food - Spotlessly clean Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - From the moment I walked in I felt hugely welcomed. Staff are fantastic, friendly, smiley and helpful.
Quaint old inn decorated very tastefully gave an exuberance of warmth.
Outside room was spotlessly clean and had a little table and chairs outside so I could enjoy the morning sun.
Late checkout on Sunday was a huge bonus.
Breakfast totally hit the spot.
Location - was just a few minute drive up the road to Nedging Hall where we were attending a wedding celebration.
Would highly recommend. Nothing. Could not fault it at all.
- Jayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philippa (9/5): A super room, really comfortable furnishings (with a great shower!) and amazing food. - Breakfast was a bit overdone but delicious - need to do something about the flies though! Some sweeping outside the room block would have made a huge difference
- Karen (10/5): Great - All of it, especially Jack
- Roger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keith (9/5): Excellent stay would have no hesitation in returning. - Lovely old pub with lots of character. We ate diner on both nights and the food was really excellent. Service was spot on. No hanging for clothes in bedroom apart from hooks on door.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was amazing Everything was exceptional
- Jayne (4/5): Sadly, Not worth the money - Lovely old pub and location Deluxe room ground level looks directly into the pub garden with little privacy.
- Steven (7/5): Good - Very welcoming and clean. A good smile from staff The floor in the outside room that we had (Orwell) was exceptionally cold and could do with some rugs putting down.
Unfortunately not my kind of food but that’s my preference.
Overall it was a lovely nights stay.
Thank you.
- Chris (10/5): We have stayed here many times and have always loved staying here . The food is particularly good . - The peacock is ideally situated for a quiet break . The food is very good Nothing
- Malcolm (6/5): Pleasant - The food was excellent Shared bathroom

- James (10/5): Jack at front of house made a perfect venue perfect! - The setting, the Pub, the food and especially Jack ! N/a
- Jane (9/5): Superb -

- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Snoopy (8/5): Beautiful area & food , perfect place to bring your dog - Area is beautifully scenic
Room very clean
Plenty of tea /coffee
Food outstanding
Very quiet
Perfect to bring pets has outside garden area for them No plug socket next to bed for phone charger
No plug to plug in kettle (had to put kettle on dressing table to access plug
- Davis (8/5): Ok - Good
- Rhonda (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (10/5): Fantastic on every level. - Customer service and food were second to none. I would thorougjly recommend this beautiful, historic inn on every level. We will certainly be back.
- Daniel (9/5): Lovely place to stay - Very clean and comfortable.Staff were excellent. It was very good, no complaints
- Sara (9/5): A perfect country get away. - The property was warm and inviting. The food was excellent. The manager was extremely helpful and accommodating.
- Kevin (8/5): Friendly village pub, staff go out of their way to make sure you have a good stay - It’s an excellent place to stay a little quirky in places but that’s a good thing, like the floors being ever so slightly wonky but come on it was built 600 years ago 😁 it was very clean and tidy the furniture was a bit abstract but again it works in there really nicely I couldn’t honestly say anything bad, yes it’s not modern but it’s cozy and friendly whats not to like about that!!
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (10/5): Charming 2 night stay, peaceful and quaint. - Fantastic, friendly service from the staff and a beautiful setting Pillows on the bed were quite flat
- Marc (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (9/5): All good and would stay again. - Lovely food. Lovely room. Helpful staff. Shared bathroom not obvious on booking.com site (although I now see this is highlighted on hotel site). Old doors quite noisy at night to reach bathroom
- Andrea (10/5): - Very welcoming & friendly staff, clean room & comfortable bed, breakfast was excellent with a choice of menu.
My only concern was our window would
Not stay open & we were very hot during the night although a fan was in the room could not sleep with it on,
In the morning very little hot water pressure, this could be the someone else had the hot water running at the same time, these were very small negatives but would definitely stay here again
- Lynne (8/5): Beautiful and characterful old pub/hotel - Beautiful old building.the staff were very friendly and helpfull..Wonderful breakfast. I didn't realise that the rooms weren't ensuite when I booked. It wasn't too much of a problem as there was a toilet and bathroom next to our room .
- Sharon (10/5): I would go back in a heart beet - Jack the manager was exceptional, his attention to detail and customer service was amazing, nothing was too much trouble The cleanliness of our room needed some attention, cobwebs in the skylight and some corners were dusty
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kate (8/5): We were only there 1 night while visiting friends in area but room and breakfast were both very nice -

- Melissa (10/5): Fab - Jack really helped accommodate our needs as did other staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Great food. Booking . Com did not make clear our original booking meant a shared bathroom forcing us to upgrade.

- Anne-louise (10/5): Extremely friendly and helpful staff - We had an amazing stay at the Peacock Inn! We received some unexpected sad family news during our stay and the staff was extremely warm and flexible to help us and think along. The charm and the people of the Peacock Inn made us feel at home. Would 100% recommend
- Ian (7/5): Good - Good atmosphere, historic old beamed pub. Unusual and innovative menu. Few if any en suite rooms, but bathrooms clean and modern - only have to share if pub full.
- Mark (10/5): A memorable experience, never to be forgotten - The staff, accommodation and food were exceptional. We had a very enjoyable experience, treated very well and had the most exquisite food. A very memorable experience that we hope to experience again soon Not much I could think of, I have nothing that I would change
- Anne (5/5): On the whole we felt the bed and breakfast costs for this stay were overpriced. - Breakfast was basic. A variety of bread could be offered. Jack ( manager) was very helpful and attentive to guests. Problems with room were addressed after we reported them. The croissants were delicious. No chair in the room. The sourdough crusts were very hard to eat. We had to ask for juice and water at breakfast. No toast was offered.
- Paul (9/5): EXCELLENT - EXCELLENT FOOD EVENING MEAL AND BREAKFAST VERY GOOD STAFF EXCELLANT SERVICE NOTHING
- Louise (9/5): will visist for sunday lunch - Booked a room and dinner for my partners surprise birthday, food exceptional ! only problem being the surprise cake that was requested on the booking didn't appear ! see above
- Viktors (10/5): Exceptional - This is truly a wonderful place. And where you can come and where you can spend a nice time, good food great Atmosphere Of course yes Very much attention is paid to the guests who come, everything possible is done so that they like it and want to come again great food great atmosphere. We had problems with parking. I think that a special place should be allocated for the Parking lot, and there should also be identification marks that I had a Mercedes for this parking lot, it is a fairly large car and it was very difficult to direct it to put the car in the right way, as many parked the car as they wanted and others could not park their car. To do this, you need to put up a sign accordingly and warn guests so that they do not think only of themselves.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (10/5): Great inn with accommodation we will be back ! - Lovely garden room very comfortable.
Excellent breakfast. Also ate In restaurant the night before and the good was fabulous.
