Guest Reviews

- Dirk (7/5): -
- Alisa (7/5): - Good location, friendly staff, beautiful beach out front. Poorly equipped kitchen that made it hard to use.
- Julia (10/5): Great location. Would love to stay again. - Right on the beach. Beautiful Santa Teresa Beach to the right., and Playa Carmen to the left. Restaurant on the beach. Lovely room. Enjoyed the outside private dining area. Peter, the owner was exceptionally helpful. All the staff were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Supermarkets and soda bars close. Loved Soda Linda.
- Pablo (6/5): - La ubicación El desayuno bastante pobre
- Mariusz (8/5): being so close to the beach was magical & if you appreciate surfer vibes, this is the place for you! - Great stand-alone small cabin we had, quite rustic, it was only about 50 meters from the beach bar/party area.
Lively atmosphere there, there are DJs, or beachy-vibe music playing, evenings have entertainment as well, incl bonfires and fire-performers, and not too far a walk (<10 mins) from the center of town where there are more food choices.
Also the story of the owner was quite inspirational, he's been there 30+ years and just wanted to be a surfer. What he's managed to accomplish in this time has been incredible, so much work goes into a place like this! I even gave surfing a try for the first time (i won't be winning any competitions any time soon tho).
At night when there are clear skies, there's a great amount of stars visible too! Additionally, we even saw occasional very faint flashes of bioluminescence when the conditions are right (fairly calm waters) and you stare long enough into the darkness. The room is listed as an ocean-view, but the owner confirmed this is no longer really correct since it was a while back it had one, before the vegetation had obscured most of the view. It's still a beautiful view but i'm told the listing will be updated since it's no longer actually an ocean-view from the room.
The room also is pretty rustic which you be a certain type of person to appreciate so is about as clean as one can expect of a tropical, probably hand-made hut. Bugs are fairly minimal but you may see one here or there, just the nature of such a dwelling built a while back.
Note - if you want a very quiet retreat though a cabin may not be for you as the fairly-near beach bar can get busy from the early afternoon into the late evenings (but music doesn't ever go past 11pm i was told, and ends sooner on quieter nights).
- Carlos (10/5): We loved our stay and will definitely go back. Thanks!!! -
- Scott (10/5): Wonderful place , wonderful owner and staff. I would highly recommend it . - Location Nothing
- Chris (3/5): Poor -
- Loucks (10/5): Quiet, beautiful, right on the beach which constantly changed. - Loved the smallness- just four rooms meant the place felt like our own. The staff were wonderful- friendly and professional and responsive to all of our questions and requests. Peter, the owner is full of knowledge and surprises.
- Steve2032 (3/5): Don't waste your money here. Stay across the street and just walk to the beach. - Good location with direct beach access, although there is a public access path that runs next to the property, so staying on the beach is not necessary. The breakfast was delicious and complete. The bed was comfortable and a/c worked very well. We liked the mostly private porch area. I rarely write anything but great reviews. I stayed at this property 2 years prior and the room was fine except for the safe "just breaking". Then the owner was complaining to me how he had to spend a bunch of money the replace the septic field after it failed an inspection. I guess clean ocean water is not that important.
-I thought I'd return & upgrade to the "ocean" view room. Trees so thick you can't see anything but a few slivers of blue sky. Their photo #15 is the view.
-Our reception was performed by a rude manager that was too busy for us, he forgot our key, then yelled at me when I searched him out.
-I forgot one bag in the reception area during check-in, it was rummaged through & about $40 of snack foods were taken. We are sure done by the staff - the bag was not entirely visible by passer-by's & the staff did not protect the bag by putting behind the breakfast bar. We were the only ones checking in that late in the day, so the staff had to know it was ours, a guest's. They stole & stashed our food, left the bag with its contents spilled out on the couch so looked like anyone could've done it, sad.
-The room was very dusty. Don't turn on the ceiling fan! Allergies flared. The roof was not completely tight and we could see light through it, which means dust can enter too.
-The safe was all corroded, unusable & rusted in the locked position rendering it useless.
-The shower floor has settled, revealing 1/2" gaps where bugs can enter your space. Believe me, we were checking the floor on bathroom visits at night for scorpions or snakes. The caulk used to try to seal the crack was moldy. Also because of the settling, the shower water flowed away from the drain & towards the toilet, soaking the bathmat & also resulting in always taking a shower with the previous person's filth on the floor. Very Gross!
-The freezer door hinge is rusted and broken.
- Shirley (9/5): Superb -
- Olga (5/5): The best thing about the place is the beach. It is really very nice and close. The rooms are ok. -
- Victoria (3/5): Great as an alternative to a hostel…. - The beach access was great. Their beach lounge area seamed more like Cabo vibes, but it was great their location was so close to the other beach “clubs” like Banana Beach. But the direct walking access from the beach was stunning and probably the best part of this property, but that’s it. The toilet did not work upon arrival for two days, the lighting was very very dim and could not see in bedroom to find things inside of suitcase if it was night, the on-sight yoga was nonexistent as they didn’t have a yoga teacher at the time, I found management rude towards staff. I booked a crammed bedroom with a queen bed and bunk beds for 2 guests for 4 nights and only 1 night I had 2 extra guests stay after they drank a bit too much to drive—that next morning all the fridges went out (from power outages that are common for this area in general, that’s normal), but apparently the milk and eggs and food went bad for the breakfast portion of the “bed and breakfast,” so myself and one guest were served a basic ham & cheese sandwich instead, along with all of our own food in our personal fridge spoiled. Then management proceeded to tell me I needed to pay for all four friends since they wanted a cup of black coffee, but needed to pay for their stay in my own room that was already paid for ontop of each of their “full breakfasts” which none of us obviously had. After management was rude to my guests, I had asked what had happened and would be more than happy to pay as I was going to continue staying and they were leaving anyways, but management was so rude to myself that I proceeded to check out two days earlier after this incident and left in a few hours notice of this happening. I switched to Zunya a bit further down and couldn’t recommend more or be happier with my switch.
- Christina (9/5): Great value and awesome location - Great location right on the beach. There’s also a nice brazilian restaurant on the property with delicious food, friendly service, and the best beach sunsets. Convenient walking distance to stores, other restaurants and market.
- Nickole (10/5): Close to beach! - Great room! Great location. Great communication with owner. Kind and helpful.
- Marlen (6/5): Pleasant - The proximity to the beach is perfect. You feel like you are on a private beach.
The bar/restaurant at night time is great. Food and drinks are delicious. Great customer service. The kitchen was not fully equipped.
There wasn't soap in the lobby's bathroom.
There were not many options for breakfast.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lori (8/5): Good Stay - Food Great - Our stay was fine we were not expecting a five star hotel….our room was clean and the service was good! Bed was a little uncomfortable as for the air conditioning was not located in a great spot so it did not cool us off….the breakfast was wonderful and staff very friendly! The owner Peter has a great interesting story. I would recommend if you are looking for a room and you are on a budget!
- Puck (8/5): Very good -
- Antu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (1/5): bad - very dirty the room was very dirty, we found a crab inside the pillow...
- Spurgeon (10/5): manager went out of his way to make our trip hassle free ! he set up our fishing trip , snorkeling trip , atv rental and - proximity to the beach , restaurant bar on the beach , style , staff …. bar closed on Wednesday
- Verified traveler (6/5): Beautiful beachfront view, mediocre service - Pros:
- Beautiful beachfront property
- Restaurant and Bar on site with good cocktails (but weak!)
- Located between two surf locations (5 minute walk to each)
Cons:
- Be prepared to pay in cash! On arrival, the owner, Peter, will claim his credit card machine is broken and will ask you to pay for the hotel and extras in cash. However, know that it has been broken for years (talked to locals and read reviews to confirm). He likely has no intention of fixing it as credit card fees are insane in the area. To be fair, expect most businesses in the area to only accept cash. This may not be a big deal for some but the deception and lie are what bothered me most. The issue is that the atm is a 20 min walk (one way) and the atm will only allow you to pull 100,000 colones (approx $168) at a time (forcing you to pay multiple atm fees). His advertising/booking sites should merely advertise cash only and this could be resolved/save guests the headache.
- The safe was broken, as were the drains in the rooms
- The rooms are close to the loud road and have no ocean view
- Trash littering the property from Saturday's party will be left to bake (stink) in the sun until Monday
Tip:
This can be either good or bad depending on the vibe you want but be prepared for loud parties. RI throws a party every Saturday and Tuesday, expect it to go late into the morning (and for Peter to be hungover and not available the following morning). It's definitely not the vibe for children.
