• QuincyW9 (10/5): Home away from Home. - There’s this little Gem called Athena Hotel in a quiet neighborhood in Kampala. From the moment the gate is opened for you when you arrive to when they close the cab door when you leave, it all feels like a mother’s hug. They are EXTREMELY welcoming, kind and VERY professional. They take care of you like family, they know you by name and even remember you even if you’ve been away for 2 months like I was. From Jean Claude who will joyfully take your luggage, to Shantal at the front desk who will walk with you to your car every morning and pleasantly chat with your boss uber driver, to Prima in the evening who will ask you how your day has been and she will do that by stopping what she’s doing to look at you in the eye and talk to you. Then the very sharp Joseph who will take care of you as he drives you around town and then there’s Simon the manager, who when he says he will do something for you, he actually does. He gave me a discount as a returning client so if you need those deals, visit them often. The meals have a touch of home, it feels like the food was made for just one person, just like home. The rooms, clean, large comfortable beds and soft pillows, airy and even the smaller rooms are big, large windows that allow natural light. The neighborhood is quiet. Please use their gym and pool when you go there. I will always go back there when I’m in Kampala and I would 100000% recommend this hotel EVERY WAKING DAY.

I also enjoyed the fresh juices and chamomile tea. The hotel is beautiful and has inspiring art pieces and decor all around. I only stayed one night but it was left a good impression. The beds gave me a comfortable sleep but some people in my group prefer firmer mattresses. Also, giving notice at check-in that some doors do not slam lock, you have to pull it shut, because you could walk away thinking it is closed.

• Marguerite (9/5): - Athena is a little gem hidden in the quiet Bugulobi suburb area. The facilities are superb for such a smaller size hotel, with plenty of light in the spacious bedrooms which are relatively soundproofed (ie. could not hear the music coming from the pool terrasse area during an evening event) and with new installations (shower, AC etc, everything worked perfectly). Each floor has a spacious, nicely decorated lobby, and the restaurant (both indoors and outdoors by the swimming pool) is very comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, we were very grateful for the care and assistance provided for a sick colleague. Kampala Market Village Mall is walking distance (10 min walk) providing access to nice small restaurants/coffee places. I definitely recommend The shuttle driver apparently was not informed in time by the booking company and showed up 40 min later than expected...Luckily, we had built it extra time to account for Kampala traffic to reach back to the airport.
• gaid (8/5): It was a great stay, a clean, problem free hotel is always best when you are travelling. - The staff made the breakfast experience great; the selection was not so wide, but it was adequate. The bathroom was sizeable and clean; the check-in staff were also super helpful. It was a stress-free hotel that was located close to the venue where we were having a family gathering. All in all a very clean, problem free stay. It was approximately 95 dollars a night; I think it could have been less costly. I am not sure about bringing my children; I didn't see child-friendly spaces.

My only issue was I called to ask for my room to be cleaned and unfortunately this did not happen.

Jean Claudde was also very helpful whenever we needed assistance. The waiters on our checkout morning, awesome people. My mam was very happy. The shower had very good pressure but the overhead wasn't turning on so we relied on the hand one, which was also not facing forward well. Had to stand on the side.

Room was very clean. Lots of water bottles. My only problem was no shampoo… a minor detail though. Food was delicious. The buffet breakfast had dishes that were different - not the same every day which was great. And for bacon lovers…. they have bacon cooked perfectly!!

• traveltalesofales (8/5): Basic Comfort and Luxury in Bugolobi - My stay at this franchise of Best Western Plus in Kampala was a mixed experience that ultimately left me satisfied. This modern hotel tucked away in Kampala's urban landscape offers a comfortable refuge from the bustling city and the chaos of the Bugolobi neighborhood. The contemporary design elements blend nicely with touches of Ugandan culture, creating an inviting atmosphere. While the hotel certainly has its strengths in terms of cleanliness and comfort, there are aspects that could use refinement. The property seems relatively new, which explains its pristine condition. But it lacks the creature comforts that you usually find in a Best Western Plus property, like a good gym or a luxurious pool! If you are in for a quick Business trip, then you will find this perfect, but if you are looking for a luxurious leisure stay, then you are better off elsewhere at a place like the Four Points or Serena. LOCATION: The hotel is situated in a quiet residential area in Kampala, which is both a blessing and a curse. I appreciated the peaceful surroundings away from the city's notorious traffic congestion, but found it somewhat isolated. It's about a 15-20 minute drive to the city center (traffic permitting), which meant planning ahead for outings. The surrounding area feels safe, though there aren't many dining or entertainment options within walking distance. The VILLAGE MALL is an easy walk away. DINE + DRINK: The hotel restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the varied breakfast buffet that featured both continental and local Ugandan options. The chef, David, was accommodating with special requests, which I appreciated. The bar area is well-stocked and comfortable, making it a nice spot for evening unwinding. They even had the local CRAFT BEERS from the celebrated BANANGE BREWING Co. ROOM: We stayed in a Suite Room, so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage. It had a nice sitting area great for chilling out that was seperate from the Bed area; VIEW: Sweet view of the greenery and the hills from multiple windows which made the room feel bright and lovely; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM: Good sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Ok quality toiletries, so do bring your own. FACILITIES: The Gym is a bit of a joke! A small, claustrophobic room stuffed with some dated cardio machines and a super limited set of dumbbells! The Poos is nothing more than an extended Jacuzzi tank! And for most parts of our stay, it was not even filled with water and was non-functional! These shortcomings with the facilities made me almost rate this place a 3-star, but the sweet service and warm hospitality made me bump this up to a 4-star rating! SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel at home and well taken care of. Special Shout-out to the warm Front office staff and the sweet folks at the restaurant that made every one of our meals so memorable! Big thanks to Chef DAVID for whipping up some wicked local dishes upon request HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is good!
