- Amy (6/5): It was a good value for the weekend - Location in relation to the event I was in Asheville to attend It was on a very busy street. I wish the door had better locks.
- Pauline (6/5): -
- Elizabeth (5/5): - It was cheap No heat!
- Artur (10/5): - The area is great!
- Hana (5/5): - For the small-ish size of the room, the big flat screen TV was nice!
- Tom (8/5): Cool Motel in a cool town - Great motel. Great location. They should make it non-smoking. I think someone might have smoked in my room before me.
That said, I loved it. Clean, quiet, comfortable.
- Cynthia (9/5): If you want clean accommodations easily accessible to the interstate and restaurants, and minutes from downtown, I recom - Great location Convenient and clean
- Elena (6/5): - The location to pull out of has no traffic light, so good luck getting out. The wall is too close to the toilet. The bed has my back hurting pretty badly.
The reservation wasn't showing up on the hotel's account, but the attendant was able to help after some maneuvering.Everything else is great
- thomas (6/5): - Basic accomodation, older property but reasonably clean, good bathroom.
- George (10/5): NICE AND QUIET AND CONVENIENT FOR AN ADULT AND OR COUPLES - Convenience store near and grocery, gym, laundry facility, restaurants, and many more within 5 minutes walking distance from the eclectic motel and it's charming quaint ambience and quiet adjacent surroundings. Nothing comes 2 mind.
- Andrew (10/5): - Friendly and prompt service, as well as the moyel called tp find out if i was still arriving on day of.
- EDWARD (4/5): - expected a better motel based on the name. staff was friendly but would never stay there again.
- Milka (5/5): My stay was okay overall. I would still come back to get a second opinion. - There was no breakfast. It would've been nice though. I would've enjoyed my stay a little more if my neighbors wouldn't have been so loud and obnoxious. other than that it was an okay stay.
- Kimberly (5/5): Cheap, bare, clean. - No breakfast, no coffee machine in room. Very bare and low rent.
But clean.
- melbad2024 (10/5): Good low budget motel. - As far as low budget motels go, this is one of the better ones. Know what to expect, it is no frills. However, it was clean and the WiFi worked. The staff was friendly and remembered our names, always asked if we wanted towels. Most importantly, it felt safe, which is not always the case with these types of motels.
- Michael (4/5): Disappointing -
- Staci (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff.. clean rooms.. great location
- Heather (2/5): Very poor - dirty
- Lise (10/5): - For the price, it was just fine!
- Sandy (8/5): Very good - The manager was very nice and accommodating. I booked the wrong room (one bed) he switched my room to a 2 bed with no trouble. The bathroom sink was very pretty shower was great. Bedspreads was cute with bears so fitting for this area. Pet friendly was a big plus. And they had smoking rooms YAH. So hard to find 😪 owners think your pets are not family and smoking people are bad in most motels. So this stay was a very pleasant one. Would stay again if in the area again. Air conditioning was outdated and didn't see heat as it was some chilly.
- Steinbach (2/5): NOT recommended. - N/A First impression and Staff was horrible. Smoky room. Noisy street. Very expensive. NOT recommended.
- robertl167 (2/5): My night at the Bates Motel - My wife and I happen to book the Hotwire hot deal thinking it was a 2 1/2 star motel. When we pulled up the first thing that came out of both our mouth was holy cow this is the Bates Motel. When we checked in the first thing I was notified that we had a smoking room. Bad news for two of us that are on CPAP machines. During our stay there with a couple of bugs crawling around. Was not nice. We also had the experience of the smoke detector falling from the ceiling just missing my wife’s head by about a foot. The room is actually on a 5° slant. So when you try to wheel the chair around it actually pushes you back to the wall. There’s about a foot of space between the bed and the wall to get to the bathroom. You actually have to turn sideways to access the bathroom. Exposed wiring. Not good. This hotel is need of a desperate revamp. If not razed together. They need to put a new hotel on the property. It looks like something out of the 30s. I mean the 1830s. Duplex receptacles without covers on them what hazard this was. I already reported them to the Asheville fire department for numerous violations. As a to top it off I was charged $200 a night to stay in the sleaze hotel Hotwire gave me a $30 credit. Unfortunately I pick the highest vacancy rate season to go on this trip. I learn my lesson I will
definitely be booking in advance and doing my research before hand. Open closed a few pictures for your enjoyment
- Chrisadams2019 (4/5): Not a good place - I booked a room spur of the moment in spite of the bad reviews, thinking the motel would be a retro 60s kind of place, and glad to find a place that was OK with my dog. I got the last available room which was a smoking room, and the smell was terrible. I went to Lowe’s across the street and bought a bottle of extra strength Febreze but it didn’t help at all. The room was passably clean if you ignored the curly hairs in the bathroom. No cover on the light switch. But the worst thing was the odd and creepy vibe. Possibly the most depressing place I’ve ever stayed. Gave it two stars instead of one because the front desk guy was relatively polite, and I never felt truly unsafe.
- mjpulaski (8/5): Excellent Value - My partner and I wanted cheap, clean, and simple.
That's what this is.
Very clean. Easy access to downtown.
Park in front of your room.
Single story old fashioned motel design.
Responsive hosts who live on site.
- wealthanne (8/5): Cool Old School Motor Lodge - Booked this hotel at the last minute to check out the Blue Ridge Parkway in peak season and got exactly what I expected.
Single story motel built in the 50's (I would guess) car parked right in front of your room. It is not elegant or fancy but it was super roomy the beds were comfortable, the pillows were nice and it was really clean.
The family that owns it was very pleasant. There is a train that runs behind the motel but it only came by in the day time and didn't wake me.
It is in West Asheville so no walking downtown but I got to see a ton of cool stuff I had never seen on the drive to downtown which was about 10 mins or so.
I would definitely go back.
- DavidB001 (8/5): Nice older motel - Booked this motel and checked in no issues...room was clean...older fashioned motel but was exactly what it supposed to be...A Motel...nice people decent room...close to Biltmore..plenty of restaurants nearby.....
- E1025MWchristinas (2/5): Awful! Scam artist! DO NOT reserve! - I made this reservation well in advance, because it was for the night before the 2017 eclipse, and I knew hotels in Asheville would book up. The price I booked it for was $75. But on the day before the eclipse, hotels in Asheville were going for $300-$600 because of demand. When we arrived at Whispering Pines, the owner told us we had "called to cancel", which we obviously hadn't, and he showed us a printed out confirmation of our reservation, which he had written on "Called to cancel". And they had no rooms available. He clearly had realized that he could sell our reserved room to someone else for a much higher price, and just pretended that we had canceled it. To top it all off, he was extremely aggressive and hostile right from the beginning of the interaction. We were left with NO place to stay, as everything for hundreds of miles was booked up. What a horrible scheme.
I actually stayed here for a night a couple of years ago, and it was fine, but this hotel is under new management, and the new owners are clearly awful people who will leave you homeless to make a buck. PLEASE save yourself and don't reserve a room here!
- donnat477 (2/5): i never usually write a bad review but.... - Where do I start ? I booked this room through a booking site where it told me I was getting a double queen room NONSMOKING - I get there and there is already a family that is in a screaming match with the hotel owner because the same thing happened to them. I received a queen SMOKING room (you get no refund)- it smelt awful and the room looked as if it wasn't even cleaned. Also this hotel was a very shady place - it was worth about 30$ a night. Almost everyone that was staying at this hotel was very upset about something or another. The owner was very rude to us and everyone else that was staying there. It basically is just a place where you would stay if you had no other option in my opinion, because for what you pay- pay the extra 20$ and stay somewhere a lot nicer.
- murphy144 (2/5): Double charged me after paying cash - I had pre-booked a room on a credit card and asked to pay cash. Paid and was told after I paid that the printer was broken so I could not have a receipt. I was then double charged on my credit card after the motel owner stated I had not paid cash.
My room was cleanish, but was a bit strange that there was a small caliber hole in the window.
At night there was a large group arguing in the parking lot and drinking outside that was left to their own devices.
The beds were decent and shower wasn't bad. Also for two adults only one coffee pod for the machine. All in all not so great experience that I had to pay for twice.
- SunSeaSkyy (6/5): Inexpensive lodging. Keep your expectations in check. - This is a budget motel that has everything you need. If you want Marriott, this is not the place for you. If you need a clean crash pad and everything else is full closer to town, this is a suitable choice. And the price is right.
There is a small refrigerator, coffee maker and working flat screen with cable in the room and the WiFi worked fine (in Room 1). The AC/Heat unit works fine. My only complaint is that the AC/Heat unit is right above the headboard of the bed in Cabin 1, making it quite noisy. Just turn it off overnight. I did and that was fine. Bottom line, the price is right! It has become hard to find a hotel for less than $200 in Asheville, especially if you want to be near downtown. So this place at $93 (total) is a deal.
An UBER ride downtown near the breweries is $12 (without surge pricing). There are several restaurants within walking distance, including Yao, the Asian buffet.
Would stay here again - if everything closer to town is full.
- matthewcI4279QE (2/5): Terrible motel - This motel is disgusting!! Some many problems with the room. The customer service was the worst I have ever dealt with. Stay away. They will not refund your money no matter what you do!!! Things need to be updated. The pillows were badly stained. Headboard had cigarette burns. Stay away from this hotel!
- 514magalir (2/5): Very bad experience - The location is not so terrible...
But the matresses were really bad and the service was bad too.
The owner called me because she was surprised my stuff was still in the room... I paid for 2 days in advance and she did not realized it. This kind of phonecall is pretty scary.
The price was crazy for what it was...
- camikas (2/5): Horrible customer service! - Bad bad experience, we called ahead to let them know we were booking through priceline and the guy that answer told us we could come and book with them that he'll keep the price we had with priceline. When we got there the same guy was super rude and said that it was more expensive and at the moment he was sold out anyways! Horrible horrible customer service! So we were with no room very late at night trusting on what the same guy told us over the phone!
- JKAFlorida (2/5): Never Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Even though we confirmed our reservation and we paid in advance for 3 days. We arrived only to find that our room was given away because we arrived after 6 PM. But not all was lost.....there just happened to be one room available at a much higher rate. Since the clerk was uncooperative and we hadn't any options we stayed. The room was small. There was an odd undefinable odor about it and It was next to a room whose windows were boarded. There were no coat hangers and they would not provide any. Also they wouldn't answer the phone when we called the office that evening to ask for assistance and wifi connection. The next day construction was started on the room next to us . The jack hammer was quite loud and unnerving. The workman was quite apologetic. When we asked to speak to the manager the fellow refused to give us his name......We suspected that the man we spoke to was the manager. He was rude and nasty and evasive and uncooperative. We found a wonderful room at the Holiday Inn for $15 a day more. It was so worth it. Even though we had to pay for another day at Whispering Pines we more than gladly paid and left Never Again to Return.
- Cookl10 (2/5): Negative 1000 stars for me - I booked this hotel and called back immediately because I was unable to make my reservations. The owner was extremely rude and told me he would not give any refund. I called back the next day and he was screaming over the phone "no refund"! I don't understand how someone could be so rude to customers?? I will never stay here.
- davewN5929QA (2/5): Never stay at this hotel. - Worse hotel experience I have ever had. Wish I had check the room before I paid. Manager would not give me my money back. I finally stayed jsut not to have to deal with dispute over payment on my credit card. I had not signed my receipt, but he threaten to process it anyway.
Room are rusty, doors broken, light fixture taped by pink tape.
- DeborahM668 (8/5): Good night's rest - We turned the wrong way to the hotel we were going to stay. Saw this place. It looked nice and clean. There were quite a few cars, so we decided to try it. Glad we did. Saved enough for a nice breakfast.
The room was very small, but super clean. Bed was great. Sheets were super white, clean and crisp. Bathroom was nice and very clean.
Will stay again if we are in the area.
- sahd0w (2/5): Not even worth 1 star. This place is actually a health hazard. - My husband and I drove through a night from Chicago to NC and were exhausted, and this was the first motel we came across in Asheville. We asked the manager if we could just stay there for the day, not even a night. He said the rate was $85 which I found to be high, but we accepted. We got into the room (the door was wide open by the way, not sure why) and the room STUNK. It smelled like ten people had been smoking cigars in there for a year straight, plus a thick musky moldy smell. I had to hold my nose. We were so tired I turned down the bedsheet to try and take a nap... I figured I'd just deal with it. The pillows were covered in hair. The sheets were FILTHY. Stains, hair, crusty stuff. All over the sheets and pillowcases. I can't even imagine this place could still be in operation. I don't believe for a second they washed their sheets more than once per week. It was just filthy.
Anyway, when we went back to the office to ask for a refund, he insisted he show us another "non-smoking room", which we went to see. It was almost exactly the same scenario. It just didn't smell AS bad as the first room. When we finally put our foot down and insisted we just wanted out money back, he said he would do it but he needed to charge us a $25 "fee" because we "messed up the bed." I never do this, but I actually shouted at him that he was trying to scam us and no hotel should be this filthy. He also tried to charge me $2.50 tax on the make-believe fee. I argued with him until he just removed the tax. I can not believe I actually paid $25 to walk into the dirtiest, smelliest hotel room I've ever seen and just ask for my money back.
Please people, do not go to this place. There are some OK reviews for this hotel, but they have to be fake. I can't see how any human being who values their hygeine and health could even breathe the air in this place and not be revolted.
- samanthac522 (2/5): The WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!!!! - This was by far my worst hotel experience ever! I only choose to stay at this motel so that I could get to work during some bad weather. It seemed like a less expensive place but not a nasty place and boy was I wrong! The room was very very tiny especially for a family of 3! The second day we were there my boyfriend and I left to take our son to daycare and when we came back there was a very large trash can outside of our door with a sign that said "For your trash". Now I am in now way a dirty person and yes we had more trash than would fit in the tiny trash can provided but it was in an Ingles bag. It wasn't like there was trash all over the room. We have a one year old so we had diapers in an Ingles bag. Also the manager had gathered up the 3 dirty towels and piled them on the desk in the room. I was so mad! I thought not only do they want us to throw out our own trash which I was fine with but I couldn't figure out why he had come in our room in the first place if it wasn't for house keeping! The bed was not made nor were we provided any clean towels. Instead we were provided a trash can! Now I'm not normally the kind of person that likes house keeping to come in my room on a long stay. I can make my own bed and I can clean up after myself, but to come in the room and then do nothing but provide the guest with a trash can! Now that's crazy!
Then a few hours later while I was trying to sleep because I work third shift at the hospital, the wife can banging on the door. I answered the door and she said she was there to clean. I told her we didn't need her to clean that the room was clean and I was confused as to why her husband needed to come in my room earlier if she was coming to clean now. She said to clean and tried to tell me that it was our third day. I said know this is our second day we just checked in yesterday afternoon.
She got this confused look on her face and starting speaking in their native language to her husband and then started to walk off. I then had to ask her twice for towels. And if that's not enough it gets worst! While I was sleeping my boyfriend went to work. When I woke up I noticed that the tv was off even though I had left it on. I thought it was odd but had just thought maybe I rolled on the remote and forgot about it.
Later that night I went to work and I received a call from my boyfriend at about ten o'clock. He was in an out rage! Than manager had just walked in the room while he was sleeping without knocking. I am assuming he saw that our car was missing since I had it at the hospital and decided he would just go on in with seemingly no one there. He then said he was sorry and rushed out of the room. After this call I felt very bothered because when I had been there earlier in the day sleeping I was very hot and happened to be sleeping pretty close to nude. The rinky dink heaters in the room had no happy medium. If it was on it was super hot and if it was off you were freezing this being in February. So I starting wondering had the manager come in the room while I was sleeping and shut off the tv? I was so bothered! If I hadn't have been at work we would have checked out then! Needless to say we will never ever stay there again and I would advise against staying at this horrible creepy place!
- Dragonfly-373 (2/5): don't waste your money - The owners don't invest any money or time to keep this motel up. The walls are dirty and where they did paint, it was just spot painting and of course the paint didn't match the existing paint. And why isn't there any electical outlets in the bathroom? Women need that. The toilet leaked and had to constantly put layers of paper towels to absorb the water. Housekeeping was not all that great either. We used clorox wipes to wipe the doors and the knobs down where previous guests would grab door to close and left dirty finger prints over time. This obviously was not from just a couple of visit because they were just fiflthy. They put two coffee cups out for guests but only one packet with a single serve sugar and creamer. Went to office at 7:30 a.m. to get more and woke the owner up (not a good sight) and once again, we got only one packet. The next morning...again, one packet. For the money they charge, don't waste your money and spend a few bucks more and get a much cleaner, quieter place to rest your head.
