Guest Reviews
- Kaleb (10/5): Quaint and Peaceful spot - We had the best stay at this cute little spot! Every person working there was so kind and thoughtful. They really went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. Even the decorations and car put into the space is very quaint and special. Dinner was delicious and also very thoughtful. This is nestled by a lake and very peaceful area; it was perfect for seeing the northern lights. I would go back to this area just to stay here again!
- Tracey (10/5): - Lovely room. Great staff and a tasty breakfast. Easy parking and the location is good for getting to just about any of the sights that you’d want to see in the area.
- Deborah (10/5): - Loved this hotel. A beautiful setting! Staff are wonderful. Rooms were spacious, well appointed and comfortable. Dining was yummy! Breakfast was adequate, just not our typical. I great spot for Northen lights. A small town close for exploring. We definitely enjoyed our stay!
- bradford s (10/5): - Lovely! Great food in the restaurant. And we saw the northern lights! Super stop.
- Sarah (10/5): - The area is beautiful! The hotel is in a very private treed area overlooking a lake. There are lots of birds. We enjoyed the hot tub overlooking the lake. The rooms are modern. Ours did not face the lake and guests could walk by and look into the room if the curtains were not closed. The restaurant was quite good and so was the included breakfast.
- Theodore (10/5): - Really fabulous property. Room was wonderful. Food great (breakfast was really good and on-site dinner great). Staff were helpful and friendly.
- Wanda (10/5): - Amazing property! Our room was clean, comfortable, modern and spacious. We had all of the amenities we needed and a wonderful breakfast as well. The views were beautiful. Only a few minutes from Egilsstadir for gas and groceries.
- Lois (10/5): - Our stay here was lovely. We used the hot tub both nights and enjoyed the breakfast each morning. We loved the view and thought the room was well layer out. Two items on our wishlist: kettles in the room (we love tea!), and the ability to turn out the patio lights. We found the patio lights bright even with the curtains closed and also made it hard to see the northern lights.
- Atsushi (10/5): - Beautiful setting!
- Christine (10/5): - Clean rooms, great staff and nice breakfast.
- Chen (10/5): - Very impressive. Nice stuff.
- SIYUAN (10/5): - good
- Shane (10/5): Loved it - We loved our stay here / clean and fresh and beautiful location on the lake
We had excellent service from our polish server / sadly we didn’t get his name
He has a great sense of humour and was very good at his job also
We would
Highly recommend this place
- Tero (10/5): - Amazing spot by the lake.
- Connie (10/5): - Very clean, a new remodel hotel. Beautiful surroundings. Staff are great and friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great. We would strongly recommend this hotel.
- John (10/5): - Great stay. Beautiful property overlooking inlet. An excellent breakfast. Total quality property. Highly recommend staying at this property.
- Caitlin (6/5): A good crash pad, but no frills. - We were staying here for one night while we continued our travel on the Ring Road. We had issues with locking our door (from the outside), which was annoying.
Unless we had the blackout shades drawn, we had zero privacy. There was a sheet curtain, but even with that “closed” you could see into the room when you walked by. With the later sunlight in the summer, it was a huge bummer to keep the blackout shades drawn. Felt like we were in a cave.
There was a TV in the room, but it didn’t work?
Limited amenities, breakfast buffet was disappointing. Wouldn’t stay again.
- Richard (10/5): - Rather than stay in Egilsstadir, stay a bit outside of it. Direct access to the lake and, not mentioned in their promos, their own small waterfall!! Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Lee (10/5): - Hotel 1001 is ideally located, offering a peaceful atmosphere complemented by exceptional staff. The services, from dinner to breakfast, exceeded expectations.
The room was both comfortable and clean, contributing to a pleasant stay.
I would recommend Hotel 1001 for anyone seeking a tranquil getaway that’s still conveniently close to the town, with beautiful mountain views.
- Fraser (6/5): - I wasn't impressed that as a guest, I couldn't dine at the property in the evening. I would have expected to have been informed before my visit if I needed to reserve a table. Also, the hotel was not very informative in recommending alternative dining options.
- Brent (10/5): - Great place. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast. Rooms were very nice, modern and clean. If you book a lake view room in the summer, the sun will be beating down on that room for most of the afternoon and by the time you check in, it will be nice and toasty. Easy window and door open to air out, but it was quite toasty by American standards. Also the path to the rooms is mulch so be prepared to carry your bags. They probably offer assistance for this, but not needed for myself and wife. Stay here, you won’t be disappointed.
- Linda (10/5): - Having a golf cart to transport suitcases to the room was wonderful! The view was breathtaking.
- Loren (10/5): - Beautiful!
- Abhay (10/5): - Excellent stay! Clean spacious room. Right besides a river. Would definitely recommend anyone who is town for short stay. Breakfast was excellent with amazing own baked breads
- Dionne (10/5): - We had a great stay at this hotel after a long drive from Vík. The property is beautiful and has about 25 rooms. Not a bad view from any room with the large windows that let in plenty of natural light, with blackout shades to block out the summer sun.
The woman at the front desk was incredibly friendly and went out of her way to accommodate a request they don’t usually allow, which I deeply appreciated.
I didn’t get a chance to use the hot tubs, but they seemed popular with other guests. The attached restaurant serves excellent food, it’s expensive, but worth it for a nice dinner. Just make sure to book a reservation in advance.
Breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of options and a great way to start the day. If you need groceries, there’s a store about five minutes away by car, but note that it closes very early.
My only complaint is that there wasn’t an in-room coffee maker or cups, which felt like a miss for such a nice hotel.
A few tips for future travelers:
• The shower has no door, so adjust the showerhead before turning it on, or you’ll end up with water all over the bathroom floor.
• There is no TV in the room, which I personally enjoyed because it made for a quiet and peaceful stay. Bring a book if you like evening entertainment.
Overall, this is a comfortable and welcoming hotel, perfect for resting after long days of driving and exploring. I would definitely stay here again!
- Kirk (6/5): - Fine basic hotel room with nice breakfast
- Jennifer (10/5): - So peaceful and beautiful!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Nice and quiet, beautiful setting, helpful and friendly staff
- Phyllis (10/5): - Great hotel. Loved the glass views from the front of the room. Very unique experience.
- Christine (8/5): - There was such an amazing view from our room but that comes at a lack of privacy. We had dinner there the first night and would have loved to have known the reindeer burger would be served rare, chef’s decision, I would have ordered differently if I had known. My partner loved it! Peaceful and beautiful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel was good, wifi strong, breakfast decent, only "problem" is there is not a EV charging station in you are on a road trip. Luckily the nearest one from the hotel is a 5 min drive.
- Caroline (10/5): - lovey hotel would definitely rebook if returning to iceland
- Nathan (10/5): Peaceful mountain stay - Nestled in a stunning wilderness setting yet conveniently close to town, this location offers a perfect blend of nature and accessibility. The on-site restaurant’s prices are steep, though the included breakfast was exceptional and a highlight of the stay. The room was clean, but the hot tub was disappointingly dirty and unusable. Would stay again.
- Colton (10/5): - A very cozy and comfortable hotel with a beautiful view. Amazing location, clean rooms, friendly staff, and good food.
- Leonardo (10/5): - Beautiful hotel with a nice, comfortable room. A visit down to the stunning lake is a must — it’s absolutely worth it. Breakfast was pretty good and a great way to start the day. I 100% recommend this place!
- JIN (8/5): - This is an amazing place for our one night stay. Great view, quiet and clean, delicious breakfast and dinner. The only drawback is the poor ventilation and lack of towel heating rack. The smoke alarm went off as i finished my shower since there is only one tiny window can be opened for ventilation. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.
- Arthur (10/5): - Beautiful!!!!
Even had a little fridge for our medications. Hot tubs and an incredible restaurant!!! 100% would recommend!
- maxime (10/5): Hôtel sua coche ! - Très belle chambre et très confortable
Le déjeuner buffet était excellent et avec des choix variés
- V Bala (10/5): - Excellent. Beautiful environment in the forest. Hot tubs were a bonus. Breakfast was substantial with homemade jams and fresh eggs.
Wish we had stayed longer
- Tricia (10/5): - This hotel is in a beautiful setting nestled in the woods a short drive from town overlooking the lake. You can hear a waterfall from the outside of your room which is so relaxing. The hot tubs are great, be sure to ask for your robes at the front desk so your towels stay dry. You can pick either a mountainside or lake view room. Mountainside faces east and gets very direct morning sun. There is a limited dinner menu at the hotel. Breakfast is nice with fresh baked breads and don’t forget to ask for cooked to order omelets or eggs. They are finishing out the hotel on the other side and almost doubling the size, but you cannot hear the construction noise. Would love to see them put in hiking trails and non-motorized sports as would be a huge plus.
- Margaret (10/5): - What a beautiful and peaceful setting for accommodation! The view of the lake and mountains, the birch trees, the songs of birds were such a delightful welcome to 2 tired travelers. Your warm hospitality and helpfulness is so appreciated. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! Margaret & Lauren
- Katrina (10/5): - We loved staying here. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room had a great Mountain View. It’s one of the cutest hotels we’ve stayed in.
I wish there was a drop box for keys, we left early in the morning but the lobby was locked so we couldn’t check out. We left our key in the room and called the hotel at 7 am to let them know. We had already prepaid so it wasn’t a big deal.
Highly recommend this cute little getaway hotel.
- Susan (10/5): - Amazing view from our room of the lake. Comfortable room and great food. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location can’t be beat-waterfall and black sand beach adjacent to the hotel. I would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Night on the fijord - Walking through the front door and looking out onto the mountains, fijords, nature...what a place. So happy we chose it. The staff is excellent.
- Finny (10/5): - Impressed x10. Will be coming back again.
- Lori (10/5): - Wonderful experience. Love how friendly and helpful the staff were. Beautiful property!
- Adrianna (10/5): - We loved this hotel. It was remote with beautiful view on lake. The hotel room itself was perfect as well, enough space, clean, new and again the view! We also had breakfast and dinner there and both were fresh and delicious. I would strongly recommend!
- Sankar (8/5): - excellent staff
- Eva (10/5): - The staff went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed.
- Mitchell (10/5): - Staff was amazing. They were super friendly and accommodating. They had cooked to order eggs for breakfast.
- Melanie (10/5): - Gorgeous property, all rooms have an incredible view
- Judith (10/5): - Awesome hotel. Looks brand new. Breakfast was best so far on ring road. Staff was great. Highly recommend.
- Jason (10/5): And the aurora borealis… - Wonderful, friendly staff. Our evening started with a good meal, then enjoyed the hot tub with a lake view. Spent the rest of the evening with a glass of wine and watching the aurora borealis from our room (the entire wall is windows).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved everything! From the delightful check in host, to the lovely check out host! Setting was gorgeous - lake on one side, mountains on the other. Room was modern and clean. Beds were comfortable. And most importantly, room was quiet! Even though there were abutting rooms, and the place was fully booked, we did not hear a thing. Breakfast was great. Convenient to town and amenities. And as mentioned before, the staff was just delightful. Can’t wait to stay here again!!
- Tracy (10/5): - Beautiful location with excellent views. Friendly and helpful staff and breakfast was delicious.
- Diane (10/5): - Beautiful property and hotel. Great staff and nice amenities. Had a fantastic dinner in the restaurant. So peaceful.
- John (10/5): Breathtaking location - Absolutely breathtaking property! Bar, restaurant, spa runs with view of the lake, large modern rooms. Robes & flip flops for spa use. Glasses, small fridge and chairs and table to relax the nicest place we have stayed on this trip so for.
- Apinya (10/5): - Nice place in middle no where , clean and comfy beautiful lake and stuff very friendly .
- Maribel (10/5): - I loved the setup of the hotel. You get to your room by accessing it through the outside. It felt like you were staying in an apartment. It is small but very comfortable. The staff was great and very accommodating.
- Vallabh (10/5): - Stayed only one night on our ring road trip. Very nice hotel! Lovely rooms with view, lovely breakfast. Did not use the hot tub but it looked nice.
- Jun (10/5): - Best hotel in our 10 day trip.Quietly enclosed by mountain and lake. Yet have good food. The roomnis spacious and elegant.
- Anand (10/5): - Lovely place with a view of a lake right in front (has a slight sulphur odor). Loved it. And the best breakfast with a made to request omelet
- Dae Sik (10/5): - excellant stay
- Joe (10/5): - Lovely small hotel with beautiful view of lake. Felt like we were far from civilization, but yet, only minutes from excellent restaurants. Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast. Wish we had stayed longer.
- Josias M (10/5): - This was a awesome hotel. The attention, cleanliness and the food was superb. My only regret was not having more time here to explore the surrounding aeras.
- Jayant (10/5): - We had a great stay.
- Carey (8/5): - Beautiful room with beautiful views. Staff were also very nice. Their was the best place we stayed in Iceland!
- James (10/5): - Excellent stay. Also had dinner and breakfast, both amazing.
Service is top notch, everyone very friendly.
- Regan (10/5): - The most beautiful place we stayed at throughout our trip. Amazing location. Reasonable pricing. Fantastic lake front view from our room… and the food - 1000/10. The best breakfast we had by far!
- Christina (10/5): - This hotel is a fantastic getaway with spacious lodging and amazing views. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our next day was filled with great food, even accommodating our early check-out before breakfast time. The personalized attention, typical of a smaller facility, made us feel very well cared for. The geothermally heated water in the room was a remarkable feature. While the drainage system could be improved and the windows made easier to maneuver with the fan for better circulation, our overall experience was exceptional.
- Melanie (10/5): - We love love loved this property and the employees made us feel so welcome! The surrounding area is stunning, the rooms were super clean and just darling!
The breakfast was awesome too!
Only complaint, the rooms were so hot, we couldn’t open the windows and we had 4 rooms and had issues sleeping in the stuffiness. We had to open the actual doors because it was so hot. We felt safe but still not a comfortable feeling.
- Jennifer (10/5): Gorgeous Hotel - My husband and I stayed one night on a longer trip around the Ring Road. This hotel was by far the most beautiful. The only downside was that it was very warm due to the long daylight hours in late May. Many patrons left their doors open to allow the cool air to come in. That wasn't feasible during sleeping hours, but did cool things down a bit. There was a TV on the wall, but it was not functional. We didn't miss it, because the area around the hotel was beautiful, so no real loss there. The food, both for dinner and breakfast, was exceptional. The staff was top notch. It was a lovely stay just outside of town, so it was nice and quiet, but near gas stations and grocery stores. If I had to find one downside, it was that there was only shower gel (no shampoo/conditioner) in the room. So pack your own!
- John (10/5): - Lovely place and great service
- Tracy (10/5): - The staff is extremely helpful & nice. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The view was amazing. The breakfast was really good and dinner was fabulous.
- William (10/5): - Very thankful that I stayed two nights at this location while on a recent trip around Iceland. The staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming, the food was exceptional especially the breakfasts, and the view of the river was breathtaking. By far my favorite hotel of this trip.
- CJ (10/5): - Nice property next to the lake. Our room was facing the lake and the view was really good! Staff were friendly and the place had a homely vibe to it. Rooms were clean and well maintained.
Breakfast was good, with lots of freshly baked bread and pastries, and omelettes made to order.
- Richard (10/5): - Beautiful view of the lake from the property. Excellent food and a nice sized room
- Duane (10/5): - Absolutely fantastic in every way. The service, the food, the views… all wonderful!
- Dawn (10/5): - Located on a lake, this isolated hotel was great. The staff was incredible. Felt like I was in a 5 star resort.
- Richard (10/5): - A lovely resort like hotel! Staff very helpful including transferring bags with golf cart. Room with glass windows overlooking fjord sensational. We also saw the northern lights here. Clear night over the fjord. Just wonderful. Dinner was nice but wine stupidly expensive. But fantastic to have breakfast included! Would come back.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - We wish we would have had more time in this particular area. We are in Iceland for 3 1/2 weeks and got to Hotel 1001 Nott a bit late and only had one night.
The staff is VERY friendly and probably our favorite of all our stays. The attached restaurant run by the same people was so convenient, quiet and the cod was terrific. It is such a serene and cozy place. The only thing which would have made it even better was a little light jazz in the reception/restaurant area but certainly not mandatory.
The lake view room had a great view and while we did't have time for the hot tubs, they looked incredible and perfectly situated with a great view.
When we come back, this will be a place we book again and stay for an extra couple of nights.
- Michael (10/5): - Customer service was fantastic. The restaurant was great. The food was amazing. The location and views were incredible. The only complaint is the room was hot and the bed was on the hard side. Everything else is highly recommended.
- Jocelyn (10/5): - The property and location were both stunning. Absolutely perfect for a quiet getaway or stay away from the busy-ness of larger towns like Egilsstaðir. The staff was polite and extremely helpful. Other reviewers have noted difficulty moving luggage to their room - however, the hotel has a golf cart available to help with this and they are happy to lend it to you at any time (perhaps others were simply unaware of this convenience). We were delighted by the large size of the bedroom and washroom - both extremely spacious and immaculately clean! All rooms have lots of natural light as one wall is all glass and opens onto a private patio space. There was easy access to hot tubs for all guests - it was pouring rain and 126 km/h winds when we stayed, so we did not use them. We hope to return to Iceland soon though and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!
- Cynthia (8/5): - The property and rooms were lovely and modern. The staff was polite, but morning restaurant service starts late and there is no in room coffee or tea options. Parking is fine, but the gravel lot and walkways make rolling a suitcase impossible. The shower design is absurd, the wall is too short and water goes everywhere. Additionally the adjustable nozzle didn’t hold, so it was always dropping down to shoulder height.
- Janet (10/5): - Absolutely fabulous hotel - so wish we’d planned to stay longer! The setting is stunning, rooms are stylish and spacious. We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant - again, a wonderful setting. The hotel feels fresh and new, has been incorporated into the countryside sympathetically and landscaped to look natural but well looked after. We also stepped out of our room late last night and saw the Northern Lights ✨
Can’t recommend this hotel highly enough! Best place we have stayed in Iceland.
- Judith (10/5): Graceful. - Beautiful. Graceful hosts. Intimate scale. Loved it.
- Karan (10/5): - The location, by the lake, was excellent. Not far from the amenties of Eggilstaoir. The property seems to have been recently constructed and it was handsdown the best bed we've slept on during our Iceland sojourn. Such a calm and peaceful setting.
The free breakfast was nice as well and parking was ample.
- Lucie (10/5): - Quite and beautiful place
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice hotel. The staff was nice and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The view of the lake was perfect after a long day of driving. Breakfast was good. I would stay here again.
- Dawn (10/5): - This place was absolutely lovely. We loved everything about it. Very friendly staff. The atmosphere perfect. The room was perfect. The hot springs tub was a forgotten feature so we were so happy to see them. Book here!!!
- Karen (10/5): - It was a clean and peaceful place to stay. The staff were very helpful and accommodating! The breakfast buffet was very tasty. I am a vegetarian and had lots of choices. I would absolutely stay again!
- Anda (10/5): - Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Coffee station in lobby was appreciated. Museum is nice Icelandic touch.
- Farzad (10/5): - Small hotel but very unique and interesting
Room view excellence and it’s only 7 min by car to town
Overall I stay again if I come back
The road to the hotel although short not paved
- LUDENG (10/5): - Place was very clean and breakfast was amazing. Had so much homemade gourmet and food from the bread to the blueberry jam. The kind lady and gentleman helping in the kitchen/front desk, likely the owners of this hotel, were both very sweet and made you feel like you were at home.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Great stay. Friendly staff and very good food. Worth requesting the Apple TV box - not sure why it isn’t just standard in the room.
- Rebecca (10/5): - This was by far my favourite place we stayed! The property is beautiful and clean, but the staff take it up a notch!! They are unbelievably hospitable, so kind and attentive! You can feel their passion in all that they do!! Honestly would go back!! Highly recommend this property!!
- Jie (10/5): - Hotel location is perfect with snow mountain view and lake/river view. The services are great. The food they serve is gorgeous.
- Charlotte (8/5): - Stunning views from our lake view room - super modern and spacious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hot tubs with the view were insane. Do not think we would have enjoyed as much if we didn’t have the lake view. Restaurant was good but nothing special with quite a small menu.
- Montserrat (10/5): - Perfect location, incredible staff, and everything in our room was comfortable.
