- Helen Scott (9/5): Beautiful common outdoor facilities, room was fine - This has been our favourite place for our backpacking trip in Panama. We loved tiny little Santa Fe and La Quia. The hosts are lovely and very attentive. The shared outdoor areas (gardens, covered seating areas and restaurant) are beautiful and expand your options for places to hang out and relax. You can be social if you want to or enjoy your privacy. Cheap laundry on site and breakfast included are nice bonuses. The room itself was perfectly fine for the budget traveler but would disappoint someone used to more high end comforts. Room was musty, mattresses are lumpy, minimal hot water
- Ellen (8/5): - Short walk from town center, friendliness and helpful staff, clean basic room, nice garden area and some bird watching, yoga platform, outdoor covered lounge area including hammocks right outside our door. Information about hiking trails. Great value. Friendly cat. Except for barking dogs and roosters during the night. A peaceful setting. Was unable to adjust the shower temperature to a comfortable temperature ( it was either cold or scalding).
Dogs in neighborhood barking during the night.
- Aris (6/5): Standaard. - Mooie locatie.
- Hanna Bauer (4/5): - Der Garten is ganz schön.....
- Laura (8/5): - Posizione centrale, struttura bellissima Stanza buia.

- Peter (8/5): Nice stay in Santa Fe - Our room had some drawbacks, like many gaps between the roof and walls that enable insects to go inside, but we used our own mosquito net and we were safe to sleep quietly. The second night ants invaded our room, we were offered to be moved to another room, but we were ok with the solution to spray them as we weren't in the mood to pack all our belongings. Reynaldo who runs the hostel is really nice guy, very attentive, helpful and available any time of the day. He is also behind the local infocenter, that provides a good source of necessary info about all possible activities in Santa Fe. Food in hostel's restaurant was also good.
- Madis (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was supper. The gym was good. Heated yakuzi was a surprize.
- Thierry (8/5): - Magnifique cadre ,chambre minimaliste.
- Yudita (9/5): Very enjoyable stay in a beautiful location with very helpful and friendly staff. - Beautiful garden, very helpful staff and good facilities eg restaurant in the grounds, yoga area, communal sitting area, facility to wash muddy boots and very helpful advice about independent hiking paths as well
as guided tours.

- Arianna (9/5): Wonderful place in the jungle - We had a wonderful stay. The place is amazing, with a stunning view from the garden and the terrace. The staff is super friendly, pets included! The owner helped us finding a horse tour on the day we arrived and gave us lots of information about trails in the area. We wish we could have stayed longer! It gets loud at night, due to lots of birds and dogs in the area. I suggest to bring earplugs!
- Selina (9/5): perfect place to relax - The accommodation is well maintained and has a beautiful outdoor area. The staff was very helpful and super friendly and the breakfast was delicious. No lockers and because of the thin walls sometimes a bit noisy at night (due to the dogs and roosters ;))
- Falong (9/5): Superb -
- Reynaldo (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Super cool place, nice and chilled, really friendly staff and great breakfast included
- Joanie (8/5): Quaint compound. - pretty property, flowers and plants. new buildings, clean. not enough places to put your stuff, like hooks and hangers
- Heather (8/5): - Very noisy due to neighbouring roosters & dogs at night. Food good & easy access.
- Clive (8/5): Lovely location accommodation friendly helpful staff would definitely stay again - Excellent location good accommodation beautiful gardens and good food/ breakfast at on site accommodation . Though there was not kitchen/ fridge on arrival within minutes the male member of staff provided a small fridge . That’s customer care thank you Though it states kitchen is not available it would have helpful to have cold storage
- Josephine (5/5): A pleasant situation but in no way 'eco' except, perhaps, economically successfull. - The property itself was attractive, very pleasant shared balcony but hardly eco. We had hoped for birds in the garden but saw none. The '3 bed dorm' was a silly desiegn with shutters opening onto a shared balcony. You would have had to move the sofa outside to open them and then anyone could have reached in and poked you in bed. With the bad lighting we fumbled around in the dark. It was a budget set up for 60 dollars per night.
- Sheila (3/5): No hot water, hard beds, roosters at all hours, rude restaurant staff. - The grounds were beautiful. Restaurant was poorly managed. Very long wait for service. Staff was rude when asked about it. Never got served. At that point all other options were closed. No dinner that night.
- Constantin (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): - Very pretty setting. Staff was was super friendly. Restaurant/bar area was very nice.
Room could very much use hooks to hang clothes as there was plenty of wall space and shelves for clothes/etc.
There was little space for belongings so we had to keep our things in our bags.
All else was lovely! For those that are noise sensitive, it IS Central America and dogs, roosters, cats etc….all have opinions in the weee hours of the night. I always pack ear plugs to make sure I sleep well.
I highly recommend a stay here! Enjoy!
- Abhishek (8/5): Very good -
- Eremitehugs (9/5): Superb -
- Stefan (8/5): Very good - Nice garden, most of the area was newly renovated, friendly employees Some hangers in the room will be useful
- Cristian (9/5): Superb -
- Joost (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect stay, really helpful staff, great food and advise on what to do in the area, stayed a day longer because of this.
- Ana (10/5): A relaxing paradise to stay. - A relaxing paradise to stay.
First of all, Santa Fé is gorgeus, a mountain town very beautiful. As a town, Santa Fé, was the highlight of my trip and with such beautiful trekkings all round full of waterfalls. La Qhia is a very charming place with a beautiful and relaxing garden, a lot of common areas with terraces where you could enjoy the place seating or laying in one hamaca and even a open air area to practice yoga or meditate. A bit of paradise. The bungalow was spotless, very clean and with a good area, and your own seating place outside. Has an open air restaurant with good food (good price) and good service and if you want they have also cocktails. :) Everyone was nice, the employee (sorry don't know the name) of the restaurant was very nice and kind, always smiling. All the team was there to be helpful, I fell and all were very helpful to give me what I need. Reynaldo, the manager of Qhia is there for you and explain everything what you could need. With all the patient and being a sweet person. He did a fantastic job creating a page on Qhia site with all information that you need for trekking and other useful information of Santa Fé (trekkings, tours, restaurants, public transports, etc). Everything is there. Even each trekking is described in every little detail. I always thought that if I had a place to receive people I would do that. But is the first time that I saw a hotel/eco resort, doing this. What a good, great job receiving people.
Of course, I cant forget, Ragnar, the dog (a gorgeus dog with a sweet soul and gorgeus) and the sleepy cat that loves cuddling.
Last, did the night tour to see night wildlife and recommend the experience. Is always magical feeling nature at night.
Really recommend to stay here. Would love to come back
- Jiří (9/5): Superb - Accommodation near nature. Everything is close. perfect restaurant for dinner. Room equipment could be better. I missed table a lot.
- Hanna (8/5): Relaxing mountain atmosphere - Amazing view from the balcony, nice atmosphere and great onsite cafe. Perfect basecamp for mountain hikes. Room could have been a little bit larger.
- Samantha (10/5): Comfortable, peaceful, delicious, friendly, beautiful. - The staff were friendly and bilingual. The property's interior design was to a very high finish throughout. An effort was made for it to be eco friendly. The menu was limited but each plate was delicious and used produce from the lodge's garden. I highly recommend this property. If I were to be picky, I'd say there was a little dust on the frame of bathroom mirror but that is a minor detail and the only negative I have about the place. Everything was great.
- Tarrant (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pietro (6/5): Pleasant - Nice location, plenty of space to chill, hammocks, clean dorm. Overall a nice stay. Feels like sleeping in a wooden house in the forest The wooden walls don't isolate the noise at all.
You can ear dogs barking all night and roosters. And any kind of insect could crawl inside through the gaps :)
More expensive than average Panama city hostels
- Julian (10/5): Great! - Very nice staff, great location, lovely surroundings and dog. Facilities are kept very clean and functional. it does get quite loud at night
- Helen (5/5): staff were awesome, rooms were clean , grounds are very well kept , it was great to have washer & dryer to use , $2. - lay out is great, staff were friendly and very helpful. property was very well maintained as were the grounds after 4 day stay the dogs and roosters were getting too noisy, the restaurant food was not great, when restaurant was closed they didn’t leave a coffee/tea area for guests to use.
- Cherry (10/5): Exceptional - the accommodation has a great location, you can walk to the village in a few minutes where there are supermarkets and restaurants and you can start many hikes from there. The property's own restaurant is closed on Wednesdays. We had a simple two-bed room in the community area and slept excellently. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The house dog is very sweet. There are hammocks in the community area where you can relax and watch the hummingbirds in the garden. There is the possibility to use the washing machine. We felt very comfortable and recommend this accommodation.
- Siuli (7/5): Fake freedom - There is not much to fault La Qhia, it is a gorgeous resort and a beautiful place to chill out. The room was lovely, clean and spatious. The gardens well-kept and green. However, somehow it feels a bit like an out-of-place "factory" in the lovely and laid-back village of Santa Fe. After booking you will receive MANY messages telling you the rules, the don't's and the not-allowed's of the place, which sort of spoiled it a bit for me. I don't like being told what NOT to do, so for me it was like fake freedom in the resort.
- Bojana (10/5): Exceptional - A peaceful little resort of the hilly part of Panama. The dogs and roosters didn't disturb our stay, neither the workers. Nice hikes around. The village is not touristy and we loved it.
- Carlos (8/5): I would return, very nice - Is a very clean place with view to the montains full of peace it has a, beautifull garden. Is perfect to scape from the city life and rest surrounded of nature. They have improved the installations a lot since my last visit and this is a very good thing. Beds are very good and combined with the fresh whether from Santa Fé make you enjoy all your time here. The hotel is close of everithyng by walk in the town. In general I like it a lot and I would come back again. I do not give the full points only for the huge dog they have inside the hotel and walking around the outdoors who recieved me with growls and barks. The architect forgot that most of us go to this type of places looking to see the beautifull landscape of the Santa Fé. During the design of the new houses they forgot to at least put a window facing the mountains to see the landscape, or to place more balconies facing the landscape. They have a incredible location but they are not taking advantage of it at all. This is just a comment and not a real criticism. What I dont liked it was the very big dog inside the place, you are working with people and animal behaivour is not predecible. My partner is afraid of dogs and dogs can read fear in people. Each time the dog saw her, the dog approached her and sometimes growled at her and them tried to urinate on our car. I understand this is a "alpha" male, that is a beautiful and he is tame. But this situations cannot happen in a hotel because neither the owner knows how his dog reacts to each type of person. In many countries large dogs cannot be in public places whitout muzzle because even the most pacefull one can attack a person if a series of factors mix at the same time.
- Katharina (10/5): - Freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal.
- Rebecca (10/5): Perfect and relaxing - + location , staff, hammock and balcony, clean and double bed on the dorm :) -: no kitchen so you are dependable of restaurants.
Breakfast expensive for what it is BUT prices for lunch and diner are fine (- 10$)

- Verified traveler (6/5): Very nice place - but noisy roosters at 5am - Santa Fe town is small and quite lovely with many fun things to do. This hostel is well situated and the rooms are recently renovated and very clean. The rooms were very clean, ok comfort wise and had warm water - which other hostels don’t- so big plus. They had a bar onsite and will open restaurant soon as well.
The only cons were parking as not enough and we had to park on the outside street (though seems safe) and the worst was the amount of roosters that the neighbors next door had. I was woken up at 5am to a serenade of roosters - prob over 100 going off one my one at least till 7am- I had ear plugs and it was not enough. At 6am while trying to sleep I googled a lot of facts about roosters - as apparently they can continue all day and night long.
So great place for those that like waking up at 5am- but if you want to sleep in then this may not be a place for you.
- Anna (8/5): Very good - it’s a quiet place with a nice garden where you can relax after hiking. they have warm showers and you can do your laundry for 2,5$. coffee in the morning is for free. the kitchen is under construction, so there is no fridge and no possibility to cook.
- Glenn (6/5): - The common kitchen and restuarant were not open and the only Cafe we could find was at a bus terminal which was actually pretty good. Dogs..lots of dogs barked all night long and who knew that roosters crowed all night long as well...perhaps competing with the dogs. Booked for two nigjts but decided to leave town after one night.
- Russell (8/5): Very good - Ok for a short stay. Plenty of space to relax, kitchen small but good. Close to supermarket and bus terminal wi-fi worked well.. Muddy entrance to property and not well lit after dark - easy to slip and fall. Sensor lights come on as you pass the area rather than before. Poor lighting in dorm.
- Karin (9/5): Perfect for a stay in Santa Fé - Very helpful and nice staff and owner. Beautiful garden and outdoor area. Kitchen could be equipped a bit better.
- Guibord (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (8/5): - The Eco Retreat is also a hostel and from that perspective, it was great. We spent a lot of time on the patio / lounge and met some great people but we were easily a generation older than the next oldest guests.
As an Eco Retreat, I would have expected more recycling, composting, etc options. I hope that this is in the future plans.
The staff were great and the bar was the center of the life around the facility. They are currently building a restaurant which will enhance the experience.
Sante Fe is a great place to visit and La Qhia Eco Retreat is a wonderful base for your visit.
- Charles (6/5): - If you are in the building with the four "private" rooms, be prepared to hear everything your neighbors do, especially if you are on the ground floor. Bring your earplugs, in many years of travel I have never experienced such a thing. In reality they should only rent the two lower rooms, and from that perspective I should rate this place much lower, but other than that a marvelous experience, ruined by a subpar building.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to disconnect. Reynaldo provided a great service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Our family really enjoyed the laid back vibe we had here. The porch and hammocks were perfect for our rest day after some big hikes, riding and paddling fun in Santa Fe.
Perfect place to chill and enjoy the mountain views, sounds and smells.
