Guest Reviews
- Drew (6/5): -
- Isobel (7/5): - The size of the room, location and staff.
Water, crisps and biscuits. On the website it advertises rooftop space however this was dirty with no seats.
Also the floor was unclean in the room.
There was a menu in the room however we weren't able to get any food.
- Takuya (10/5): -
- Ashleigh (9/5): Great value great location - Good location. 5 mins to the river and in quiet alleyways.
Sujit the manager is very warm and friendly and makes a good omelette for breakfast.
Also the mona lisa cafe 5 mins away serves excellent selection of food.
The price of guest house is very good value Duvet and bedding needs updating they were quite stained
- Vivek (10/5): - Tara Guest house offers a comfortable and pleasant stay with clean, big rooms and a peaceful atmosphere.
The Staff is polite and helpful, and the location is convenient.
Recommended Everything alright!!
- Uma (10/5): - I had a wonderful stay at Tara Guest House. The location is perfect - close to ghats and many temples, yet peaceful and comfortable. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The staff and owner were kind and helped us with local tips and tourist places.
I liked the stay here. Nothing
- I HSIN (1/5): -
- de Rover (9/5): - The location was perfect, close to all the main things to see. The owner was very helpful and advised where needed. Also got a nice room on the top of the building which was great. Big thanks to the manager mr Sudit who helped and took care of things. Great stay! Non
- Poul (7/5): - The staff and manager were very helpful and friendly. It was dirty.
- Peter (8/5): Great place, good value and great staff. - Great location, the manager was very helpful in every way. It was comfortable and everything worked well. Very happy with my days at Tara
- Ksenia (4/5): It’s a survival place - Breakfast is not really happening on time because everyone is sleeping )
Stuff is polite but they sleep in the living room, they should have a room…
I think Varanasi is not a luxurious place but owners could care more the stuff and also learn to be more professional. No window!
Price is very high for this staying for the facilities they offer. Better compare other places )
- Nick (6/5): Disappointing - Location was good for the gats. The owner is clearly trying to upgrade the place but it has a general feeling of being a bit grubby.
- Sandeep (5/5): Passable - Responsive staff to last minute request for accomodation. we did not stay at the hotel as it was sold out
- Ashwani (7/5): Good -
- Twinkalben (10/5): - Very nice and helpful staff, very clean room with hot shower
- Manuele (10/5): Great choice - I am an experienced traveller, not my first time in India, and I know the hassle of finding a decent and fair priced room in India. Well, I believe this place is worth the price, especially if you take the double rooms upstairs.
Also, I enjoyed the peace of the place, the cleanliness and especially the kindness of the owner and the staff.
Will definitely come back.
- Esther (8/5): Would stay again. - It was super clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Airport transfer is advertised as free but it’s not. My single room has the view icon however there was a wall less than a meter outside the window. However, there was an amazing Ganga view from the rooftop just not from my room.
- Manoj (7/5): Good -
- Josh (8/5): Great value for money - Great place and owners are very friendly. A/C units were helpful and rooms were tidy. Nothing bad to say
- Rahul (6/5): Pleasant - Location is good but hotel price is way more for the services provided. Could have been much better
- Anthony (1/5): So bad. Zero sleep. Not for westerners - Nothing Everything. There is literally 1 meter separating you from the outside walk way where guys start building stuff at 8 pm and go all night. Also the staff start screaming talking to each other at 6 am right out side your door. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE
- Sara (6/5): Pleasant - Very nice people and good service.
It's central It was very loud and cold. However, there is probably not much one can do about the noise.
It is not easy to find as cars do not fit the small streets and you have to walk the last 5 min or so. At first, we could not find the place.
Not many restaurants close by (so this is of course depending on one's preferenses)
- Leshchenko (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff, cutie room and at night very quiet. 5 min by walk to the ghats. I would back to Tara Guest House
- Soskic (10/5): Exceptional - The place is in a great location. Clean.
And the stuff is very kind and helpful
- Vinayak (2/5): - Very poorly maintained rooms. dirty beds extremely poor quality for the price. Not accessible by train or auto. Have to walk through narrow and dirty streets. Nosy rooms with no proper bentilation
- Ivancch (7/5): Great location for exploring the ghats - While it is a basic guest house where not everything is in tip top condition, the few people running the guest house do everything they could to improve your experience. initial issues with the heater, air conditioning, sockets were quickly resolved. They also helped with the taxi booking to and from the airport and will wait along the road for you to arrive so that they can bring u to the guest house, which is deep inside a little lane. Location is excellent for exploring the many ghats of Varanasi. There are also shops and restaurants in the next lane. Breakfast (toast, eggs, coffee) is made to order. Mostly minor issues. We got a room on the rooftop level, so quite a bit of stair climbing to do. Decor is a bit dated. Placement of furniture limits the walking space. heater is a bit complicated. bed is a bit high, but the hospitality of the owners more than makes up for the issues we faced.
- Mayra (9/5): Superb -
- Akshat (10/5): I had a warm and comfortable stay at Tara. I’m grateful to Mr. Sujit for hosting us so graciously! - Very clean, well-maintained, and of course very charming! The lack of elevator might be a challenge for some.
- Annette (8/5): Very good -
- Annette (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The people at Tara are very kind and welcoming every day and help with any questions. They also make good coffee. The rooms are beautiful for the price, and very comfortable in size and furnishings
- Chris (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Fantastic place and friendly staff. Very welcoming place amazingly located for the river and old town.
- Henry (10/5): Fantastic - Room was comfortable and Sujeet was very accomodation. He made a fantastic omelette and was quick and willing to help us find other items we needed throughout our stay Nothing
- Justin (10/5): - Tara house is perfect spot right in the middle between morning and evening Attri's shops are one street over and all the restaurants around serve amazing food. Staff is very nice and low key.
- Joanna (8/5): Very good - The Guest House is in a great location. Very close to the river, as well as places to eat, shops, cash points. Very friendly folks at Tara, and Sujeet makes a a great omlette and toast for breakfast. The room was very comfortable, and it was so useful to have a kettle and tea and coffee sachets, and the snacks were a really nice thought too. Just remember to let Sujeet know if you need the hot water switched on for the shower. Leaving!
- Robin (8/5): Very good -
- Sayan (8/5): Very good -
- Joanna (9/5): Superb - Brilliant location, only a few minutes from the ghats and close to good food places, cafés, shops. Comfortable and clean, nice people running and managing the place too.
- Gunalan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mantas (6/5): Pleasant - Location was great, you can reach ganga river in few minutes. Room had strange smell. Water disappiered twice during our stay.
- Gemma (10/5): Good location comfortable bed - Comfortable bed, good location tucked away in a side alley not far from the river. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and helped us book our taxi. Good WiFi. Nice roof terrace, although not really many chairs. Was fine for a 1 or 2 night stay. Couldn’t get the hot water to work, but if you ask they can sort it for you.
- Mona (1/5): Very dirty and loud! No cards accepted, even though on website it says all cards accepted. - Good location, but very noisy Very dirty and loud! Absolutely don't go there.
Worst Hotel I've had after traveling for 3 months in India.
The owner does not accept any cards!!!!!!
He tries to force the customers to download wise.com or to pay in cash.
- Pinky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Priya (8/5): Very good - Nice clean stay with accommodating staff. Sewage issue in the toilet
- Julien (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay in Tara Guesthouse was really nice, our room was clean, with hot water running, with very comfortable soft beds and close to the ghats. Two very nice restaurant are close by (2min walk) with vegans options (mona lisa and german bakery). The hotel is well situated on a smaller street, they also offer massages and fair exchange of foreign currency.
- Martina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michel (7/5): Good - The guest house was conveniently located in the narrow streets within the old town and nearby the Gaths.
The manager, Mr Sudit, was helpful all the while being discrete.
During my stay l got a meaningful immersion into what Varanasi's secular tradition is most acknowledged.
- Paolo (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very nice
- Ankur (7/5): Good - Close proximity to Raja Ghat and waking distance from Lalita Ghat (Temple) Narrow and very dirty streets surrounding the property.
To access one of the Ghats on the river Ganges, you have to go through a narrow ally, which is also extremely dirty and smelly
- Sami (6/5): Pleasant -
- Prasad (10/5): Overall great stay - Receptionist Sujit was always there to help us and also helped us change the rooms since it was very humid due to winter conditions.
Rooms were very clean, location is awesome and close to ghats.
- Corsi (8/5): Very good - the menager in the reception its been great all the time, really nice and ready to help for every problem
- Sarker (5/5): Passable - Mr Sujeet was very supportive in service No Tv in rooms.
The breakfast option was limited to bread, butter, omlet, or idli.
In-house lunch or dinner was way costly.
No direct payment option (POS) by card.
No lift option...difficult for aged persons to stay at 3rd floor
- Pradyumna (10/5): It was wonderful and Mr. Arup Bhattacharya, the owner of the property ensured a pleasant stay. - The property is located in heritage Bangali Tola area of Banaras very near to important ghats and 1 - 1.5 km from Kashi Vishwanath Temple. In 200 metres you get main road and on 200 meters in the opposite side you have Raja Ghat, Mansarovar ghat etc. Very strategically located. The property is kept neat and clean. Rooms are well equipped and staff is very courteous and helpful. I didn't find anything bad. If you want to enjoy authentic old Banaras charm, this is the place. Initially, you may get harrowed by narrow bylanes, but by day 2 it will all start syncing up with you.
- Ail (7/5): Good -
- Merel (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly people! Great location and clean room.
- Pradyumna (10/5): It’s a complete tour package for Banaras trip which includes wonderful stay and world class service. - The property is suitably located 200 mtrs from Raja Ghat and Mansarovar Ghat in Banaras. The property is a well managed, neat and clean heritage stay with all modern amenities. It’s a perfect blend of modern living with rich banarsi culture. Owner of the property Mr. Arup Bhattacharjee, owner of the property is the most gracious host you will ever meet. I was accompanied by 3 senior citizens and they had all the praises for each staff member at the property. Nothing. It’s simply wonderful nestled in bylanes of old Banaras.
- Elie (2/5): Would be fine aside from awful noise. - Staff were friendly. Location was great. Good price. Not the cleanest, but the real issue was the unbearable amount of noise all through the night, inside and outside of the guesthouse. Banging, slamming, and the worst, incessant violent loud screaming through the late hours of the night.
- Luke (10/5): Great stay, good vibes, very nice and helpful manager -
- Florent (7/5): Cute house with nice rooftop, the rooftop rooms is nice, clean enough even if have some humidity problems, all acceptabl - Excellent location, cute rooms Cool have some furniture on the terrace to relax outside
- Rigo (10/5): Exceptional - The manager Sajid made a very good job. Preparing the breakfast and helpfully to guide us to the house.
Warm thanks to all of the house.
Rigo
- Soraya (8/5): A good stay for us - We had the top 3 rooms as a pilgrimage group and it was perfect for us with our own floor. The garden upstairs was great for yoga-meditation. Sunni was very helpful and the Manager had a good attitude. I would not have like the lower rooms but our stay was perfect.
Breakfast was very basic but offered with love by Sunni.
It is well placed for everything and as quiet as could be expected. We love Varanasi and are grateful for our stay at the Tara guest house.
- Banushree (3/5): Poor - Location was great Not clean , cockroaches, hot water not available, had to change rooms 3 times
- Sinha (10/5): Exceptional - Experience the epitome of safety and cleanliness at this exceptional hotel.the dedicated staff exemplify genuine hospitality, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.the highly experienced and spirituality attuned boss ensures a harmonious environment.explore tranquility in the rooftop garden designed for meditation and savor the delightful experiance of live omelette service.bathed in sunlight and boasting airy spaces, this hotel is a heaven of comfort and well being.
Thanku so much for everything.
- Raquel (9/5): Thank you to have been in this gues house - The pleasant and kindly family. The location just on the heart of Varanasi live city .
- Murali (8/5): Very good -
- Yogesh (2/5): Very poor - Nothing specific to mention Room was small, damp. Owner did not issue money receipt even on demand. Although he charged tax amount. Attitude was very rough in this sequence. I do not find property worth hiring.
- Michael (2/5): I cannot recommend Tara Guesthouse to anyone for the above mentioned reasons and i plan to follow up with the fire safet - The room was very small but clean. The property was very difficult to locate. The streets in this area are extremely narrow and very difficult to find and to navigate. So narrow the tuk tuk could not get near the property causing us to carry our luggage approximately 500 meters. The street or better called a walk way was very unkempt with many manure droppings that are not cleaned up during our stay. Yo were forced to leave your foot ware at the doorway for obvious reasons. The reception was very abrupt and without any English speaking attendants. The stairs to our 4th story room was extremely narrow and it was very difficult to climb the non conforming steps. The room had 2 windows with bars and looked directly at the next building approximately 1 meter away. It certainly felt more like a jail. This being said the cleanliness of the room and washroom area was good. No hot water for showers(not really unusual).
Perhaps my biggest issue and one that i am prepared to report to the tourist board and fire authorities was that the only exit to the guest house was closed with a large pad locked metal gate. As is common most tourists would like to get up early and watch the sunrise over the Ganges River. We had to ring the bell in-order for a staff member to wake up so we could exit at 5:40 am. If there was ever a fire or emergency it would not be a good situation. This alone is why I would not stay at this guesthouse again and why in all honesty I would not recommend it to anyone else.
Lastly upon checking out i was informed that they don’t take credit cards even though they accepted my card as a deposit when booking the room. When I spoke with the owner on the phone he was extremely rude and and stated that he would prefer not to take western county tourists. He certainly could not be reasoned with and told me the conversation was over. He stated that he didn’t care about my negative review because he had many good reviews.
- Anna (10/5): I liked everything especially the ROOF! Very atmospheric place. Little garden where u can feel mental peace. Tara is a p - First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who hosted me in this nice Tara Guest House!
The Manager Sugit helped me with my huge luggage when I arrived. He kindly met me by the road where Tara's personal driver stopped. Tara provides complimentary airport pick up. So when the car reaches the guest house there is a street you need to go by legs and the manager Sugit is there to help you with your luggage and also he shows you the way because you are going together while he kindly carry all your stuff.
I wanna say thank you for the owner of The Tara Guest house and all of his family. They are always there for you to answer your questions, friendly atmosphere guaranteed 100000%. People of Tara guest house really take care of you. For example, dear Palak, who works there speaks English fluent and can easily provide you any assistance you need, as every person who works in Tara.
Included breakfasts. Kitchen and opportunity to make your own meal.
Tasty omelette, toasted bread with butter, masala chai (tea), coffee, black tea etc was provided for me and my friends so we were sure that we will wake up and have our sweet breakfast at our Tara so there is no need to go somewhere and search for food. We had breakfast at our guest house and if you want to cook something you just can go groceries and cook smth for yourself by yourself in a kitchen.
Friendly atmosphere.
I liked that you feel free at Tara guest house. You can go upstairs and sit on the terrace with plants and drink your tea there together with friends and just relax.
Location is great.
Tara is situated near everything you want. For example, it takes 2-5 minutes by legs to get to the most important Ghat where “Agni Pooja” (Worship to Fire) daily in the evening is happening with 7 Brahmins.
Rooms
As i were with ~11 friends I saw several rooms in the Tara guest house and I liked each of them and that everything is clean and washing rooms are clean 100%. I liked that rooms are different and stylish.
- Ramakrishnan (7/5): Good -
- Zedflame (4/5): Disappointing - I've been to Varanasi many times, that's why I had no expectations about guesthouse near Ghats. Without any expectations stay in Tara was ok :) I'm lying. I had one expectation: that I will leave guesthouse without being bitten by bedbugs. This expectation didn't come true))
- Choudhury (7/5): Good - Location was excellent Availability of dining needs to be looked upon
- Arun (6/5): good - good good
- Fabrizia (9/5): Superb - It’s a humble place in the heart of Varanasi, close to Ghats and shops, the atmosphere is very friendly (it’s staff home as well) and everything feels so familiar. Nothing I didn’t like, of course is a guest house so don’t expect hotels standards, but it has all you need for a great experience
- Alexander (8/5): Good base to explore Varanasi - The location was really good and very atmospheric. The staff were really helpful with all my enquiries and allowed me to leave my bag after I had checked out. Breakfast was good too. The air-con in my room wasn’t very strong, meaning that it was hotter than was comfortable for most of my stay.
- Navjot (7/5): Value of Money - The guest house is located within the close proximity of 2 major ghats of Varanasi - Dashashwamed and Assi Ghat.
The room was comfortable with all facilities like AC in good conditions.
The owner was very well spoken. I was traveling from Delhi and forgot my debit card at home. The owner was very kind enough by offering me cash in return for the UPI transfer.
- Rathod (10/5): Good place to stay. Budget friendly. - The room is very clean and maintained. Away from the noise of streets. Clean and well maintained. The staff is courteous. Not accessible by car or rickshaw.
- Tymoteusz (7/5): Good stay, super location bad wifi - Very nice receptionist, we were allowed to check in before, after night train. In check out day we stored our luggage in secure place. Good for backpackers. The wifi was not working, the lock to the door was very poor so not security. The were some power blackouts in the night.
- Singh (8/5): Very good - surrounding ganga Aarti and shayan aarti
- Heyjoe1234 (6/5): Pleasant - The location in the old city of Varanasi. The Director's attempt to solve my issue. The single room that I booked was in fact a very small 3 squares meter room behind the reception desk (so probably noisy, while I had asked for a quiet room) with a view on a wall and no air circulation. For 35 EUR, one would expect better, or to be warned prior to coming with the option of cancelling. I was very disappointed, and after a long flight, exhausted, and not wanting to roam the city to find another place. Thankfully, the owner was flexible and gave me a better room, with no added charge, and I had a pleasant night. However, I still feel I shouldn't have had this "surprise". He said they would not rent out this room in the future, and indeed they shouldn't, or for a much lower price.
- Abhishek (7/5): Good -
- Diego (6/5): Pleasant - Comfortable, centric and nice, however little of a guest house, it was more an impersonal hotel.
We travel as a couple and stayed in the city for 4 days. the room was nice and clean and the staff was ready to help in most cases. In one of ours, the owner didn't wake up for breakfast the check out date, having in mind the chaos of the city and the distance to the airport gave us some stress.
Our stay in the house for the owners could be defined as invisible, no greetings or any kind of relationship in the common areas, just with the owner over our breakfast. Not what we expected of a guest house.
In our opinion this is not the best choice of value for money, however its a quiet and comfortable stay
- Deepti (4/5): Disappointing -
- Kattamuri (4/5): The place is hidden behind narrow street . No sign on the main street . The staff were excellent - It is very hard to find the place as it was tucked in narrow street. They is no sign on the main street . Had talk to many local walkers on the street . Display of name on the main street. Stairs are too steep.
Power went off several times .
- Wanderlast (8/5): Friendly staff, great location and enough for 3 days - The staff is helpful and the location is perfect Maybe a bit overpriced, considering the size and quality of the room
- Sasatron (10/5): Exceptional - The entrance is narrow and it takes about 5 minutes to walk The staff and owner are kind and friendly.
- Joanne (9/5): Superb - The guest house has a very nice location, near the ghat, the temple, the Chowk and the Jangamwadi road where you can get rikshaws.
The manager, Mr Sujit was very kind. He gave us some good adresses in Varanasi and helped us to book some train tickets.
The guest house is also offering laundry service.
- Cyril (10/5): Nice to stay here - The owner of the hotel is caring to the guests.
- Prashanth (1/5): Not a great place to stay - I asked Mr. Arup to give me GST invoice but he told me that he will not accept cash, then I have asked him for card swipping machine even he did not had that, and finally he asked me to transfer amount online other wise he refused to give me GST invoice.
Then somehow I explained him regarding issuing GST bill then finally I have got invoice.
Also I was shocked to know that my booking was accepted at the time of checkout and getting invoice after an healthy arguement.
I beleive this is not the good practice.
- Ursula (9/5): Superb - People sudth Receip no regulat
- Amudan (7/5): Good -
