Rebecca (10/5): I will be back!! - Loved the roof top bar, decor of the room, balcony to sit on with our afternoon cocktail. Property is wonderfully close to downtown restaurants. We happened to be there on a festival weekend so there were lots of things going on close to the hotel which was a nice surprise. Pricey stay - but you pay for what you get which is a wonderful boutique hotel experience!
essexspursfan (4/5): As we say in the UK, all fur coat and no knickers - While the hotel looks nice and trendy that’s about as far as it goes. My wife and I arrived and went to the bar to check in. The barman told us our room name and referred us to the e-mail we had been sent in order to get into it. He then went back to serving drinks and we were left to carry our suitcases up two flights of stairs to our room. The hotel car park was full so we asked where we could park and we were told we could park on the meters outside as ‘they weren’t checked’. We later found there was an additional car park which we used. In the room there were two coat hangers on an open rail, no cupboards and no drawers - not a particular problem for us as we were only staying one night but seems a bit spartan. In the bathroom there was nowhere to hang any towels. It seems to me it’s about style rather than customer comfort or service. Definitely wouldn’t use again.

Adrian (7/5): Enjoyed the property, good location but felt it was a little overpriced - Nice property, nice large room and comfortable Room was on the street front so traffic noise was an issue during the night. When we arrived the bar was busy and the room was not obvious to find, assistance from the bar staff was helpful.
Timothy (7/5): A cool place and concept falls short. Kind of weird and pricey. - Really nice design and re-use of an older building. Room was very spacious. Very convenient to downtown attractions. The music artifacts were interesting and fun to look at. A little awkward entry. Staff were barely present and the main room and bar were depressing. The coffee shop next door did not have much to offer for breakfast.
Barry (10/5): - It was unique, a little hip/funky, beautiful, comfortable and well-situated in the middle of downtown Florence. I note that I could hear the bar and music, but the bar closed around 10:00, when I went to bed. It took a little while to get hot water, but then it was fine. There needs to be better instructions to operate the (useful!) electronic devices & it would help to tell people that registration is at the bar.
Carol (8/5): - It was not very accessible. An elevator would've been nice to help get luggage up to the main level. Also, our room needed an extra mirror in the living space and better lighting. Most of the time there was no one around to ask questions, help, etc. A phone # is nice, but not like having a real person to talk with.

The uniqueness of this locally owned boutique hotel was worth the price. Exquisitely comfortable beds! Lovely gathering space that all rooms opened out onto. Rooftop deck was beautiful. Highly recommend!

With access to the great bar lounge and the quirky coffee bar downstairs, it's like having a huge resort space to yourself. Best location imaginable for the sights of Florence and the Shoals. Walkable to good restaurant options as well. Super.

Mike Tyson fight of “hotels.” They want your money, of course, with none of the responsibility of caretaking their customers. No one is available when you need to change rooms in the middle of the night because the mattress needs to be replaced and you’re in pain. The kids at the bar are kind enough to get you to your room, but if you’d like a coffee before leaving, there isn’t a second pod available. God forbid any hospitality is shown you as a guest & you can enjoy perusing all of last night’s takeaway trash at the bar - McDonald’s trash? Check. Taco Bell trash? Check. in hopes of finding any sign you were ever considered by this dark den of over-hype - do they keep the second cup of coffee in a vault? Where does the water from your weak shower go after it waters the floor? Why are the flowers dead, not dried? Why didn’t they put 2 cups of coffee per guest in the room? Why does a smoke alarm flash in your eyes all night? How did they get “best of” anything?? So uncomfortable I was ready to roll before 6 a.m. Artists with warehouses are being belittled by this simulacrum. And I had a chance to speak with an owner. She thinks your spine is worth less than her mattress (!) and has no regard for the employees who work in the dark for her. Choose elsewhere - the hotel attached to the BBB is where we’ll nap next time. And I highly recommend The Oliver in Oxford from this journey for a professional recovery from the likes of this…whatever…it isn’t…

Room should have more than one chair in it. Patio/deck should have 2-chairs, not the one it did. There was supposed to be a book about the horses in the horse themed room we stayed in. No such book.

The fabulous bar closes at 9pm on a Monday and Tuesday evening - really disappointing. The WiFi in our room was intermittent - we had to use WiFi only in the communal areas. The curtains in our room were very dusty with moths and other insects and the bedsheets had holes in them. Staff were accommodating and helped us in with our luggage but we had to do it ourselves on departure - not easy for a disabled person in a hotel with no elevator.

kathryngI9032GG (8/5): Great vibe in a great town - We stayed at the Gun Runner for two nights in the Frank Lloyd Wright Room. Great natural light, but it could use more lamps at night. Our bar tender on Sunday night, Jason, was great at his job and very customer centric. Our room was spacious. This is a repuropsed building made into a hotel. The walls are thin and all rooms open into the common area and bar, so expect voices and music until at least 9pm. No elevator, so also expect to carry your gear up the wide staircase. Note regarding attractions in the area: Most places are closed Sunday and Monday.
Sara (8/5): Pleasent - The hotel is located in a good location, safe and close to many shops, the rooms are spacious and beautiful decoration. Ok, here we go.!! I would love them to be more strict with cleaning. First of all, they need to vacuum the floor very well. We found balls of hair under the beds and one of the sofa. Second, please shake or wash the curtains. They were full of excessive dust. When you open the curtains to Through the sunlight you can see the dust that is accumulated throughout the whole room, they need to clean the fans, I suffer from allergies and all that dust caused me an allergy that lasted for three days and also there’s not daily cleaning service
JBentraveler (10/5): Special Hotel - As a get away, we were told the Gunrunner was special and indeed it was! This was one of the most unique boutique hotels. We stayed in the Billy Reid suite and it was nicely decorated and had a comfy bed with nice linens It doesn't have an elevator and carrying luggage up the wide steps may be a challenge for some people. There is a good coffee shop on the first floor and it is walkable to the downtown. We hope to be back!
Kristina (6/5): - This was the second time I’ve stayed with Gunrunner. At the last visit there was zero parking due to the bar guests however I was able to arrive at check in time prior to the bar peek and found a spot. I did find it gross that the body wash and hand cleanser were only half full. I went to target,which is thankfully close by,and purchased my own. Still, paying over 400 dollars a night I should’ve had complimentary soap. The bar was severely understaffed. I waited over 45 minutes for a drink. Ended up ordering two and just went to my room. The room i stayed in was the Smithsonian and it was cozy/comfy. I will comment though that it was exceptionally loud all night long. There should be a curfew so that paying guests can sleep. The coffee shop is a new area since my last visit. I didn’t stop in but it smelt amazing as I was leaving and seemed to be a popular spot.

Pamela (10/5): A gem in Florence - Fantastic boutique hotel! My husband and I were on a road trip and decided to tour Muscle Shoals Fame recording studio. Found this gem for a quick overnight. The only regret is that we didn't have time to enjoy all of the amenities - spa, bar, etc. Hoping to get back there someday.

terraturtle (10/5): Beautiful and unique hotel worth driving out of your way for - This was the prettiest hotel I've ever stayed in and probably the most unique - perfect for a couples getaway. It was also surprisingly affordable. We stayed in the Billy Reid suite and it was gorgeously decorated, which a comfy bed and chairs, luxurious linens, a stunning bathroom and shower, and a great balcony. The bar/common room was beautiful, as well, and the bar staff (who also act as hosts) were extremely nice. I worried that it would be loud because there is music playing in the bar until 10, but we didn't mind at all and after 10 it was quieter than most places I've stayed. I honestly didn't even want to leave the room! There were plenty of amenities in the room (including a keurig and good coffee), but I wish we could have ordered up coffee and breakfast from the coffee shop below - however, it was Sunday and the coffee shop was closed. That's a great excuse to go back though, and we definitely will.

The rooms were dusty, and bugs were flying around; the hotel does not own the coffee shop, and it didn’t open until 8 am, and on Sundays, it’s closed that was so disappointing and inconvenient the amount of money we paid that weekend for this hotel was ridiculous

swearengen (10/5): Great Vibe - Very cool hotel with a great vibe. Location is great, just a short walk to the main drag with a number of restaurants, bars, and shops. Loved having the bar right outside the room, and the rooftop bar was a nice bonus. We stayed in the Billy Reid Suite. It was clean, open with a high ceiling, and had a good size balcony. The bathroom was very up to date, and the shower was large. It’s a little odd that the bartender is the only staff, but check-in was the only time we needed anyone. And the off hours door through the coffee shop is a little odd as well, but it worked out. Parking was fine, but you can find yourself without a spot at times when the bar is open (until 9:00). We really liked this place. Totally recommended if you like something a little different.

Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel is so unique. In fact, it didn’t feel like a hotel at all. If you are expecting a full staff hotel, this isn’t your place. The bartenders are basically the only staff that we saw, but they were super helpful with all of our needs. It has really cool decor, our room was clean and comfy, and it is a short walk to restaurants. The only negative that I have is the walls seem to be a little thin, and the room/bathroom have open ceilings so not as much privacy as some would like. Especially if you’re staying with friends, or you prefer bathroom privacy. Overall, we loved it, and will be staying at Gun Runner again!

Bormimern (8/5): Interesting place - Interesting place which we liked for the most part. Liked the spacious room with sitting area and balcony. Could be improved with some bedside lighting and more surface area for luggage. The bathroom floor was extremely slippery when wet and a rug larger than 18 inches would be a big help. Housekeeping came upon request and refreshed supplies but didn’t make the bed. Bathroom came supplied with one tiny black bar of soap - received more by asking the bar tender who is the only staff on site. Live music was playing on the rooftop deck the last night we were there which was nice but very crowded so we did not stay. I’d recommend it if you don’t like staying in a typical hotel. That’s why we chose it.
Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful! - I saw the photos of the GunRunner and knew I wanted to stay here! It did not disappoint. The building is decorated beautifully, and the room was extremely comfortable. I stayed in the room themed after architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The mattress was a dream, and the extra amenities (coffee maker, robes, toiletries, guidebook, etc) made they stay even better. I highly recommend utilizing the breakfast delivery from Turbo Coffee as well! I set up my order each night before bed and it was delivered to my door each morning by 7:15. The atmosphere in the bar/lounge area was great too. Things to note: This is an older building, so the walls are rather thin. You may hear the TV from your neighbor or conversations from the lounge area. The bar closes at 9:00 or 9:30 so it shouldn't be an issue, however there was one night where a few people hung out in the main area until 2:00 AM and I had to ask them to please keep it down. This isn't something that can really be avoided due to the age of the building. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and will absolutely be returning in the future!

They don’t offer early check in. There is not a restaurant, but plenty of options within a few blocks that you can walk too. The bar was a great place to hang out with friends and it does close about 9PM, so it is quiet for guests. We would stay here gain without hesitation.

The rooms are oversized and there is bar in the middle of the hotel with good services and a comfortable area to visit. The bar closed at 8:30, because they want to keep things quiet for the guests. If we ever make it back to Florence, this is where we will stay.
Haddix (10/5): You’re gonna miss out if you don’t give it a try - The Gunrunner Boutique Hotel is a hidden gem in the south. This is my fourth visit and I have to say it’s an outstanding hotel. Very comfortable and clean rooms each with its own unique atmosphere. The lobby bar is a great place to relax and enjoy about every spirit you’d want. Highly recommend when you’re in Northern Alabama

Wifi was fast and TVs offer Roku streaming. Just know that there's no elevator and you'll need to carry bags up the stairs. But you are bound to enjoy for stay at the Gunrunner.

ILMTraveler9876 (2/5): No Service Whatsoever - They seem to pride themselves on a "no contact" model which translates to nobody onsite to assist an incoming "guest". I arrived two hours early and attempted to reach someone - anyone- about a) checking in early and b) unavailability of parking. The property has a very very small parking lot which was completely full. Street parking was not available. When one calls this property's phone number (which they clearly discourage), one winds through and IVR to press the option to speak to a person. Well, of course, no person was available, so I was then "invited" to leave a voice mail, which I did. My voice mail requested info on checkin and parking. And here's the thing - not only did they not respond in a timely manner - THEY NEVER RESPONDED AT ALL. No one returned my call - ever - no one texted - nothing. So if you want anything resembling service at what I think is still referred to as the "hospitality industry", I urge you to book elsewhere. This is really too-cute-by-half.

The ambiance is very romantic and rustic. We had a great time talking to the bartender and just lounging in the main room. There is also a spa and coffee shop downstairs that are both very nice and offer great services. If you are looking for a fun place for couples in the Muscle Shoals area, this is it.
