Guest Reviews
- Jaime (5/5): -
- Guest (7/5): - Good value, clean but very run-down property in a central location. Secure and no frills, good for a night. No hot water in the shower I used. Had difficulty leaving the property in the early morning as could not find any staff to open the secure entrance. I would recommend leaving a little extra time if leaving early. Tip: keep on ringing the entry buzzer continually until someone wakes up.
- Ojeda (9/5): -
- Yannick (10/5): Practical and affordable. - The price, a solo room, and it is one block by 1/2 a block from the center of town, which makes everything accessible. There are numerous commuter buses within a few blocks.
- Martinez (7/5): - El silencio en la noche es genial para dormir Un abanico para las abitaciones sencillas
- Souza (1/5): -

- Michel (8/5): - Maria trop sympa

- Simon (7/5): Good value, very basic - For the price I paid US$16 it was acceptable and good value. Secure, with an efficient if nonchalant check-in and out, but overall very basic. Room shabby and run down but a clean mattress and sheets helped with a good nights sleep. The shared bathrooms were also very clean. Quiet at night and a great central location. Room flooring worn and dirty, window slats missing, fixtures broken. Could be much improved.
- Neil (1/5): Bad - The service was terrible when I arrived there they wouldn't even answer the door. The service was terrible when I arrived there they wouldn't even answer the door.
- Stephanie (10/5): Adorable and friendly. - Great area, I didn’t even know but it was on the same block as my favorite restaurant! The staff were lovely, the place was clean and the owner was so sweet. I ended up getting a private room for no extra charge and it worked out because my trip was during the first anniversary of my fathers death and the private space was appreciated!! Will come back again!!
- Anonymous (9/5): some safe and quality room+ in a merely dull city to start being on the Road again exploring Life... - honest approach, attentive Lady of the House, privite. lively nghts outside that one should bare and be pleased of for others.
simply, for that modest price a night there's nothing to complain
Grat Stay,
Denis Stuart nothing much
- Fernando (3/5): No hot water when it is cold, cleanliness not a priority and livked in jail. - Nothing Dirty, no hot water, access into and out of place is manual and depends on someone coming to unlock the door, so feels like a jail. Either early in the morning or late at night you can spend more than ten minutes ringing the bell for a person to open the gate. Terrible.
- Salter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Damas (1/5): Latino Hotel should be closed! This is a " Hell Hole", runs by Maria! - This is the worst place I have been in my entire life. I'd like for Booking.com to do an investigation of this place before sending more of its guest to this place.
This woman who is supposed to be running this place, Maria, is rude, disrespectful and a thief.
She tried to collect more money from the guest apart from what the customers paid when they first checked in. She tried to do it to me by trying to claim that the checking out date is two or three days earlier than it actually is.
This place is unsafe. Guests are calling police all the time complaining that Maria is trying to steal from them and when the guests are resisting her threats, she locked and refused to let them out. It's like taking the guests hostage.
I recommend that no one goes in this place.
Observing Maria's behavior, I predict that someone will eventually get hurt from this place and serious lawsuit will be filed and Booking. Com will be part of this potential complaint.
Once, the guest checking in, Maria locked in him or her.
The guest has no free movement to anywhere without ringing a bell and wait for Maria to come from the back of the building to come in to let him or her out. Sometimes, the waiting time for Maria to come after the bell is rang, can be up to 10 minutes. That's a long time which means in the case where there's an emergency such a fire or a serious situation that requires an immediate exit of the building for the safety of the guest; the guests might end up getting get or even die because the exit door is locked. The guests cannot move in and out as they want. This is big problem
So, I recommend that people avoid this place like a plague!!!!!! The was nothing I liked in this place!!!!! This place should be closed!!! A place like this should not exist in a civilized world!!
- Vikram (1/5): Bad -
- Paul (1/5): Horrible. - its a typical inner city with many stores Coast Rica is hit by inflation and the people of Costa Rica have become monetarily predatory.
I was in room 15, too small. i had to scream until the police came to let me out of their locked gate.
- Lucie (4/5): Disappointing -
- Rastislav (2/5): Very poor - Location was excellent right in the town centre. Safety of building was good too. The room is extremelly small. I have got bitten by bed bugs on my back!!! Location was excellent right in the town centre but San Jose is full of homeless poor people sleeping and living on the street and it is not safe environment!!!
- Tanya (8/5): A good budget choice own room in Centro - I have lost count of how many times I have stayed here now: I always return when in San Jose. This place is really central and as cheap or cheaper than a dorm but for that you get a small, neat own room and access to so many bathrooms that I have never seen a queue! There's hot water, strong internet, good security and the place is a few blocks to the airport bus station in Merced and a few blocks to the 7-10 bus station towards Nicoya. A perfect stay every time. Thanks again guys! Really happy with all
- Steve (3/5): Poor - The price Checkout was from 5am but I couldn't find a member of staff and was locked in, I missed my taxi because I couldn't leave. It took over 30mins or me ringing the bell and shaking the door to leave and shouting to be let out. By the end someone else was also with me and shouting too. I nearly missed my in country travel.
I understand its a budget friendly hotel but this wasn't great and the staff didn't seem to care when letting us leave, id worry in am emergency what would happen.
- William (1/5): Bad -
- Matthew (1/5): Bad -
- Lenka (10/5): Perfect stay if you need to sleep somewhere cheap for 1 night - I spent here 1 night after my flight. I didn't want to book anything expensive, since I knew I would arrive at midnight and head out the next morning. This hotel really served the purpose well. It was clean, comfortable, with walking distance to any bus station. The shower was cold but it wasn't a great deal taking into consideration the high outside temperature. The room was noisy from traffic but I still could sleep well. The location might be dangerous at night, I opted for taxi from the airport and I'm glad I did so, because there are many beggars and homeless in the area.
- Boily (6/5): Pleasant - Needed to ask to go out of hotel.
Locked in the hotel
- Youcef (2/5): - A éviter. Sale. Trop bruyant. Aucun service. Fuyez
- Subera (10/5): Best place in San Jose (budget) - The place is very clean. I would stay here again. the clerk Luis is a very nice dude. To quiet.
- Courtney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tanya (8/5): Very good - I have stayed several times here as it is very central, clean and safe, with lots of bathrooms and for the price of a dorm elsewhere, in this hotel you have your own room. I will book again next time I am in San Jose. Happy with all
- Peter (4/5): - No me gusto
- Robinson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marvin (6/5): Tranquila y normal. - No agua caliente
- Thomas (2/5): - It was NASTY!
- Pablo (7/5): Good -
- Nfr (1/5): Bad -
- Jung (9/5): Superb -
- Rick (8/5): It was adequate for my needs. - The room was VERY small but cheap and conveniently centrally located, which I wanted. There was noise at night but I had earplugs so no problem. Some of the toilets didnt have seats. No hot water but perhaps thats to be expected for the price.
- Lin (5/5): Passable -
- Clare (5/5): Passable - It was pretty cheap The staff were rude and unhelpful
Couldn’t get in and out the building without staff opening the gate which didn’t feel safe
Windows in room broken
No toilet seats!
Cold shower
Dodgy area
- Moises (6/5): Pleasant - near to center a couple blocks.. no tv ,bathroom end of the hallway, windows broken..nights cold air coming inside..
- John (8/5): Very good - It's nothing special but it's outstanding for the price. You get a private room for less than the cost of some dorm beds. I wasn't game to try the shower...
- Sylvain (3/5): Poor - Nothing It's like a drug den.
You get buzzed in and out of metal gates. Nobody will do that at midnight to 5 am so you are stuck on either side of the gate. Good luck in case of a fire. Very dangerous.
Rough neighborhood.
Dirty rooms with no closing window or clean blanket meant you sleep in a noisy cold room. You hear and breathe the San jose pollution.
I couldn't get any sleep there.
- Unknown (8/5): Very good -
- Majestic (1/5): Bad - The price The location. I did not stay here. I had several locals to recommend a better location for me.
- José (10/5): Exceptional -
- Allen (5/5): Passable - Nothing Poor location.unfriendly staff
- Hamze (1/5): 👎 - Nothing Rude staff. Dirty facilities. Buzz-in gate that felt unsafe to be standing outside of waiting for service. People smoking weed in the waiting area. Disgusting. I didn’t sleep there.
- Hideyuki (5/5): Passable -
- Hideyuki (5/5): Passable -
- Solonomade72 (3/5): Very simple and primitive beds! Comfortless! - Location The room was so small and the mattress was a just sheet covered simple sponge!
And also the bed base was primitive, they just put some simple woods along and called it bed base!
I couldn't sleep well because of that uncomfortable, very simple and primitive bed!
I just stayed 1 night and changed for another hotel the next day.
- Agota (2/5): Only visit if you can't find anything else - The price Due to delays, we arrived late to San Jose, which of course made us very uncomfortable. When we got to the hotel Latino, the lady who manages the place was not welcoming at all.
We only booked one night so we were ready to leave in the morning as we had a long journey ahead of us. We were locked in the hostel and we couldn't find any way to leave the place. Not even an emergency exit in case of fire. We kept ringing the bell for ages and tried to call but no answer. Eventually she came out of her room and let us out (there is no inside key or beeper so you can let yourself out).
We don't believe in leaving bad reviews but we had such a bad experience especially coming to San Jose for the first time that we wouldn't recommend staying there. It was cheap of course, but we wish we spent a couple of more pounds somewhere else.
- Jun (8/5): Good for one night stay - Location Bed mat less is terrible
- Joni (7/5): Good - It was a place ro rest after the flight, before making a 5 hour drive. They had to unlock the gate every time you wanted to leve or return
- Luisa (7/5): Good -
- Eric (2/5): cheap , but poor - central If dodgy was a hotel . I won’t put bad review as you get what you pay for , and I have seen way worse . It is central , which is good . Noisy at night , dodgy too and shady ( like the area , but there is worse ) . Comfort was ok . WHY I PUT TWO STARS ? because the owner screamed at me like an hysterical crazy woman . Yet I did nothing , just ask to get in . Very aggressive, full of anger .
If you treat your customers like that , don’t you worry, the market will take care of you ! Your occupancy rate will fade away months after months
- Travel (9/5): Great for a short stay - Located 5 .minute walk to central ave and 10 minutes to the gold museum. Hotel is safe. I had a working lock on my bedroom door. Friendly staff. Very very clean. Nothing
- Mark (5/5): Passable -
- Jun (7/5): Good for short stay - Location is excellent. Also, the third floor’s colors are very good, orange based. Just $15 include tax for room without bathroom is good price. Cleanness isn't enough and one bath room doesn’t have a toilet seat.
Also, the bed mattress isn't good.
- Marta (1/5): Bad - Cockroaches.
- Bakshi (6/5): 2 extra points for self realization - Private rooms for the price of a hostel Men's toilets did not have a seat. Yep, toilets without seats. Learned some things about myself. Toilet without a seat is where I draw the line. Couldn't take a dump the whole time I stayed there, which was fortunately less than a day. Otherwise, I would have spontaneously combusted.
- Peter (7/5): Good - Close to the center Everything ok
- Warren (3/5): Get what you pay for. A minimal inexpensive 1.5 star - I’m meals Pillow worst ever
- Hanna (5/5): Passable -
- Mariam (6/5): Pleasant - The hotel is located in the middle of downtown
- Miguel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Catherine (3/5): Poor - you get what you pay for. our room door didn’t close properly, which meant that it was rattling all throughout the night, and our window was missing a pane so there was a cold breeze all night. we were given one scratchy blanket with no undersheet.
- Vit (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrea (4/5): Disappointing -
- Valery (5/5): Cheapest hotel I found - better price than elsewhere in San José Very basic
- Max (5/5): Passable -
- Matthew (6/5): A good pillow away from decent - Had an exercise bike. Decent location. Convenient socket. Clean Worst pillow I've ever known. Very basic mattress. Cold shower. No key access. Better alternatives for less money
- Zuzana (4/5): Disappointing - locality near the centre very dirthy bed linen
window without two parts of glasses,so it was cold in the nigt
- David (9/5): Great value hotel in the center! - This is a centrally located and very cheap hotel, which is surprisingly clean, comfortable, and quiet There were some ants but just a few and not much of a bother
- Estefanía (1/5): Bad - Would not recommend. When I first got there they wouldn’t take my $20 bill because of a truly tiny rip on it. Fine. My reservation was for a $14 room and I show the man the only other bills I have total $11. He doesn’t say anything. After consulting with someone else he tells me they can’t accept me. I ask if he doesn’t have something for $11 and turns out that yes they do; he was turning me down as a lone female traveler at night in a not great area having another option he knew I could afford. He informs me there isn’t hot water in the shared bathroom of that one, which fine. However, what I wasn’t expecting was the room/cot to reek of cigarettes, being able to hear other guest’s snoring as if they were in the same room, a man screaming throughout the night, and a gross bathroom with no toilet seat. I won’t mention the other bothers as for an $11 room downtown you can’t expect much, but believe the other bad reviews here.
To top it all off, I was never informed you can’t leave as you please. There’s a dropoff box for keys at the entrance, I wasn’t asked about my departure time, and supposedly the $11 room has a “private entrance” according to Booking. When I tried to leave around 3:20am to go to the airport, the entrance was locked. I rang the doorbell and called the hostel’s number for 10 minutes, which made me feel awful because it was loud enough to sound throughout the entire hotel (as I’d experienced hearing throughout the night before). I’m a native Spanish speaker, so this wasn’t a language barrier problem.
- Angel (5/5): Passable -
- Pavel.f (7/5): Good - Good location. Nice staff. Ok for the price. The room had no window, only to the hall. It smelled like cigarettes.
- Cathy (8/5): Very good -
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rome (4/5): Disappointing -
- Rhonda (1/5): It was so bad I left and did not stay. - Nothing. If this place is going to use Booking.com, they should be aware that Booking.com and certain standards do exist.
- Timothy (1/5): Bad -
- Ignas (3/5): Poor -
- Suman (7/5): Good -
- Moritz (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jose (9/5): Superb -
- Grace (8/5): Cheap and safe - Cheap and safe, great for a stop over. It's like fort-locks in here, you can't get in or out without the man pushing the buzzer! But the positive is that it's very safe. Shared bathroom was basic but clean, shower was really strong/good. Considering the amount of people who go through here, and I am sure the number who have asked are massive; they should really call a taxi if asked. It's just a kind and also simple gesture. I've been to many hotels where they've been connected to a taxi company- regular customers for taxi drivers and happy guests! It seemed a bit "unkind" to not offer this, making us walk the streets searching with lots of bags...
- Thiago (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrés (2/5): - No me dejaron ingresar
- Conrado (2/5): - Nothing, staff wanted to change and raise the price that was originally stated by cheaptickets website
