Guest Reviews
- Gavin (9/5): Fantastic staff and great food, in a pub with old world charm. - I was leaving before the breakfast started so i was given the option of an evening meal on the night of my arrival.. Fantastic service and lovely food. The TV only had a few channels but nothing that really concerned me. and would definitely stay again.
- Lyndon (10/5): Very enjoyable - Very friendly staff and perfect for exploring the surrounding area
- Sian (8/5): -

- Linda (10/5): Very pleasant stay at the 'Six Bells' - We stayed here the evening before attending a wedding the following day at the nearby Cooling Castle Barn. Staff were helpful, friendly and very kindly arranged transport for us the following morning to the venue. We had an evening meal and breakfast, both of which were excellent with generous portions served. Comfortable room in a very quiet location. We had a nice large bathroom, with both a bath and shower. Enjoyed our stay. I cannot think of anything that we didn't like.
- Gavin (9/5): Great service and friendly staff. - Was leaving before breakfast started so I was offered an evening meal on the day I arrived.

- Gordon (9/5): Charming local pub for a comfortable stay with good food - Surprisingly quiet overnight.
Superb breakfast.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Good size bedroom.
Meals very good quality and large. Would have liked a chair or two in the bedroom, more storage such as chest of drawers, and bedside lights.
Pub does not have real ale.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Paul (8/5): A very good stay - Staff. Good atmosphere, great food
- R. (8/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Really enjoyable stay - Lovely clean room, great location, staff were very friendly The room was very hot
- Sharon (8/5): - The staff were very helpful & friendly, the room was lovely & bright & comfortable. In the en-suite, It would have been nice to have a towel rail & a small corner shelf in the shower for shower gel etc. A bedside lamp on each of the bedside cabinets.
- Sadie (9/5): -
- Chris (10/5): Super friendly pleasant stay - Love the friendly local atmosphere, clean, well appointed rooms and comfy beds
- Lambert (7/5): -
- Mary (9/5): Lovely people and very good service - I like that the owner provided shuttle service at such short notice as we were going to a wedding in Cooling Castle barn. The staff were all friendly from bar, dining and housekeeping. The breakfast that came with the booking is also very good. The stairs a bit too steep (wearing heels for the wedding) :) But still good, the service andvalue for money compensated it :)
- Adele (5/5): -
- Tim (6/5): A cold stay. - The staff were friendly and helpful. We were going to a family party. Location excellent as our family live close by in the village. we requested a later check out- this was agreed.
The breakfast was excellent. There was no heating in the room.
It's was so cold. The radiators didn't work.
When we got into bed we had to use the spare single duvet as we were freezing in bed. There wasn't anyone around to ask as the pub had closed.
We switched the shower on in the morning and no water came out, we left it on and gradually the water pressure built up and we managed to get water out of the shower but it was not instant. We did report all of this to staff on our check out.
- Louiza (9/5): The food was amazing & staff were so helpful & happy, we even went back for lunch after we checked out! - Rooms were nice & spacious, dinner/ food was so good Bathroom a little on the small size, but perfectly adequate
- Janet (9/5): Overnight Stay - Handy for wedding at Cooling Castle Nothing
- Kevin (9/5): We were attending a wedding close by so it's location was perfect. We arrived and was made welcome and shown to our - It was in an ideal location for a wedding we were atty
- Søren (10/5): - God atmosfære
- Benjamin (10/5): Highly recommended, very enjoyable stay - Absolutely fantastic stay,
food was brilliant (probably the best buffalo hot wings I've had outside of America)
Rooms were clean, spacious and well furnished.
Staff were very welcoming and incredibly helpful.
Highly recommend a stay here
- Paul (9/5): Very friendly accommodation - Breakfast was exceptional, cooked by kayleigh.
Very friendly staff.
Transport to the and from the local castle Our bed was too soft
- Rachel (10/5): -
- John (10/5): Amazing - I can't say enough about this place all the staff were so accommodating, nice and friendly. We had food in the bar the 1st night and it was amazing breakfast both mornings was so good fresh and plenty of food and choice. We attended a wedding and Gavin was so good and dropped us to the venue and collected us 10 stars to all staff food. Nothing
- Edmundson (8/5): Fabulous breakfast, and accommodation was good. Beds were comfortable and very clean. Good staff. - The room was lovely, bright and clean, newly decorated with stained glass windows. Beautiful room. The breakast was outstanding and the staff were friendly and helpful. The early checkout was a minus as we expected to check out the same as other places (11 am) but checkout was 9am. That was an issue as this was a break and we had expected to be able to have a lie in. But couldn't.
- Cacchioli (8/5): - Friendly pub and b and b serving a good range of food for evening meals. Friendly staff.
Bright large airy room. Beer garden. Good traditional breakfast. Can be a bit noisy if windows open - street noise, and music from bar. But we had brought ear plugs with us as staying in a couple of pubs on our journey and expected to hear noise from downstairs.
- Nessa (8/5): Pleasant stay at a cosy village pub - The Six Bells is a cosy village pub in Cliffe, near Rochester. There are only 5 rooms, but my room (Room 2) was excellent. I was greeted warmly by Kayleigh on arrival and escorted to my room. Everything I needed was included. There is a very nice en-suite bathroom with a huge bath and a separate power shower. My room overlooked the pub garden and a quiet street beyond. There was plenty of space for hanging clothes, toiletries, complimentary water, tea and coffee-making facilities and soft, fluffy towels. I was attending a wedding at nearby Cooling Castle Barn, and a courtesy shuttle was provided to take me there and back again. Please note that if you are staying at the pub and attending a wedding at Cooling Castle Barn, the pub needs 14 days' notice so they can accommodate you. Breakfast was good, with a choice offered, although I only had toast and coffee. Tasty farmhouse bread, though, and excellent coffee! Thanks to Kayleigh for looking after me, and Bliss for the transport to the wedding venue, and Bradley for the lift back to The Six Bells. No bad points. It is a pub, so some noise is to be expected, and there is a bit of noise from the boiler in the bathroom overnight, but it is bearable.
- Carien (9/5): Prima - Erg grote kamer, badkamer met groot bad en douche. Goed ontbijt.
Verrassend leuk dorp en omgeving Niets
- Angie (10/5): -
- Eric (7/5): Heel aardig personeel maar slechte randvoorwaarden - De plek Ontbijt pas 9.30 u
En uitchecken 9.30 op zondag
- Rachael (10/5): - Breakfast was great considering it was free. Easy access to get in. Friendly staff. No issues.
- AMANDA (10/5): - Perfect overnight stay to attend a wedding near by. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable and a great breakfast to top it off x -
- Jo (6/5): first night. - Staff were lovely.Food was delicious. First night room was like an oven, we had a big boiler and pumps for a few room in our room. Just before 8am the pumps started making a loud noise. I came down , the chef call the landlord, owner. He came in about 9.30. Took a look, commented on how hot it was and said the pump was faulty, would replace while we were out that day. It was sorted and second night was peaceful.
I tried to use the bath, water trickle. 7 mins and water did not cover my feet. Bin rusty and toilet brush, had no handle.
- Fran (8/5): Friendly local pub with rooms over - The checkin staff were brilliant, bright bubbly and informative.
Our room was a great size for 4 people, very uncluttered.
Great breakfast with quality ingredients. We were advised that there was a fan in every room, this wasn't the case.
A member of staff kindly carried one in from the landing, but I know from another guest that they were struggling due to the heat in their room and had no fan.
The internal alarm system did wake us up at 5.45am when someone set it off, we assumed it was a member of staff as it went off relatively quickly
- Marina (10/5): Idyllic country break - Conveniently located for events at cooling castle. The staff are top notch. So friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure we had a comfortable stay. Clean and comfortable rooms. We arrived on the third Thursday of the month which coincided with a classic car show and added to the atmosphere. Food also excellent.
- Davies (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (7/5): Good - It was very welcoming, staff were very nice, breakfast was lovely. Our bed was very soft and creaky
- Jochem (8/5): The friendly staff (especially our breakfast host) were all superb.excellentproper cup of coffee too! - Quirky and lovely pub, unusual location Nothing - comfy room and bed, tired but functional shower room
- Lesley (10/5): Staff were so friendly and accommodating and the lift to the venue and back was amazing would highly recommend - It was close by to the wedding venue we were attending Nothing
- Louise (10/5): Excellent chef - Nice place to stay. Delicious dinner. The chef, Kayleigh is talented and took the time to explain a recipe to us.
- Malcolm (6/5): A good place to stay for a remote area, OK facilities, cheerful staffand a popular pub underneath. - Good location Access to the rooms a bit grimy, still building the fire escape. Shower we fittings a bit dodgy, and the bedside window opens onto the upper deck of a bus stop!
- Natalie (7/5): Good -
- Hadley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (10/5): Highly recommend - Family room was great for our needs, clean and comfy. Perfect stay to attend a wedding at Cooling Castle Barn. Hassle free handy lift there and back by Gavin and we were made to feel very welcome by Kayleigh. The breakfast was amazing. (Included in the stay). Thinking of returning just for the food another time. Nothing
- Ann (10/5): Fantastic staff - The staff were excellent We went for a wedding and the staff arranged transport for us to and from the venue
- Layla (10/5): Perfect pub hotel with lovely staff - We stayed when attending a wedding, the staff were so nice and helpful even though it was busy! The room was very big with a lovely bath. Food was some of the best food I’ve had in a pub, we had breakfast twice and dinner and was so fresh. Would definitely recommend
- Paul (9/5): Lovely village location and excellent breakfasts - The location was perfect for walks into the countryside. The room was comfortable, clean and well looked after. The staff were friendly and helpful, The breakfast was exceptional with good selection, generous portions and everything was cooked perfectly. The sleepier members of our party would have appreciated a slightly later check-out.
- Jason (8/5): Only gripe was check out at 9:30 was a bit early. The breakfast was fine.only there one night. - Was a nice country pub with a pool table and good food. N/a
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely friendly staff, food was top quality (we had lunch and breakfast during our stay ), added bonus was a free ,prompt transfer to and from cooling castle barn for a wedding !
Highly recommend and we would definitely stay here again . Nothing we didn’t like
- Tina (8/5): Perfect for what we wanted - We Stayed at The Six Bells as we had a wedding g a Cooling Castle Barn and the wedding was in the church next to the pub.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable and included shampoo, shower gel etc.
Fabulous breakfast and the landlord even picked us up from the wedding with some other guests who were staying there.
Very pretty village too.
So all in all a very good stay.
- Tracy (10/5): Friendly - Stayed for 2 nights, as we were going to a wedding. Lovely friendly staff, very welcoming. Home-made food, we had dinner and breakfast, very tasty and plenty of it. 😃. We even had a free shuttle to and from the wedding venue. 5☆. Would definitely recommend, even if its just popping in for the food. 😃 😋. Only problem we could find, you needed to be at least 6ft tall to look in the mirror above the bathroom sink 🤔
- Julie (10/5): Heaven - What a lovely little gem.
Such lovely staff very friendly and welcoming. Food very tasty and plenty of it.
Couldn’t fault the stay and the lift to cooling castle and back was the icing on the cake.
We will definitely stay again.
- Gordon (7/5): Great location, great staff and food but a little dated facilities - Breakfast was very good, good quality and well presented. The free shuttle service was excellent. The hotel / pub as good, a little dated but the staff made up for that they were great. A little expensive for what it was The room was ok but needs and update, bathroom was small, tele is in the wrong place to be able to see it properly
- Sue-ellen (4/5): Adequate for a night - The room was pleasant and clean. We felt like a nuisance not welcome guests.
- Kelly (8/5): Loved my stay! - The breakfast was amazing. All the staff I dealt with were incredibly helpful, friendly and nice especially as a woman on her own. The shuttle to the cooling barn was an added bonus as it’s difficult to get transport to and from the barn. Doing this is an added incentive to stay here. They don’t need to do this but do so because they know the difficulties in getting a taxi. Loved my stay here.
- Matilda (8/5): Decent stay at a nice pub with good food. - Food was very nice at the pub, breakfast was lovely. Friendly staff and transport to our wedding venue is a bonus. Room was cold overnight, a electric heater would have helped.
- Valerie (9/5): Superb -
- Moore (8/5): Very good - Staff were nice and friendly and attentive. Room was comfortable and a good shower. Breakfast was great. A bit overpriced for a room above a pub especially in such a remote location.
- Raw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neil (9/5): Superb - The staff were really attentive and very polite. Excellent restaurant with superb service. Room was not made up until the 3rd Day not sure if this was normal.
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were exceptional. Nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was substantial and very well cooked. Bedroom was a good size and had all amenities we needed The bed I slept in seemed to have a spring pressing through the matress so I did not sleep well. Stairs were bit steep for my husband who is disabled
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Roger (8/5): Very good - Friendly helpful staff and good food at evening meal and breakfast. Nice warm bar with log burner - ideal for cold weather. Good sized double room. Easy private parking just across the road. Bedside lights would be good
- Hazel (10/5): Exceptional - the breakfast was amazing Difficult to get a taxi but they do provide a mini bus for our funciton
- Graeme (9/5): Excellent accommodation in a pub - Spacious room and en-suite Comfortable bed Friendly helpful staff Nothing disliked
- Christopher (8/5): Very good -
- Ruth (10/5): We loved our stay! - The staff were all lovely, and the room was amazing! Loved the massive bath! Breakfast was super tasty too. The shuttle service to Cooling barn was amazing, so handy!
- Deborah (6/5): Over priced for what it is - Breakfast was fantastic. pub has a late License till after 12. 9.30 checkout.
Nothing like the pictures; tired and basic ikea furniture is not what I would call deluxe
- Terri (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Elizabeth (7/5): Enjoyable stay- clean, spacious room with good breakfast. - Had a wonderful stay at this location. Room was very spacious, clean, and efficient. Pub had delicious breakfast as well! Super easy check-in with and check-out as well. It's advertised that there is a shuttle service, however it was not super clear that you had to have booked the shuttle service at least 14 days in advance. There aren't many taxis/ubers in the area, and it is not safe to walk to the nearby event venue at Cooling Castle. Just something to be extra aware of if you are staying here for a wedding/event!
- Aghilan (10/5): Very polite staff and delicious breakfast - Excellent location Nothing
- Lawrence (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb - Lovely pub, lovely staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing I'm not huge but I struggled getting into the shower as the doors didn't open that far
- Lesley (10/5): Lovely stay , good food , very clean , would recommend - Good location , friendly
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Douglas (10/5): Everyone was friendly ! Welcoming from the start , lovely food, shuttle to and from our wedding , couldn’t fault it ! Wi - Cosy and clean Nothing
- Lorraine (4/5): Okay for short stay 1-2 days - Location was excellent for Wedding venue at Cooling, staff were very helpful . Breakfast was slow , room was extremely warm even with the fan and the room had a strong odour of food. Bathroom was not overly clean .
- Mark (10/5): - Nice little pud with very nice staff, rooms could do with a bit of updating but it’s priced for what it is and the breakfast was excellent, staff all very helpful.
- John (9/5): Enjoyable - Very accessible with great friendly staff , comfortable room and a fabulous breakfast. Would really recommend Nothing to not like
- David (1/5): I wouldn't stay or recommend to anyone as i thought the place needs a re dec and moderations. - I didn't have a breakfast due to the poor meal i had the evening before. the whole experience.
- Linda (9/5): Great stay, fantastic staff, nothing was too much trouble - Great location for the wedding venue What’s not to like
Lovely pub in a lovely village
- Rebecca (7/5): Good - Modern pub with very comfortable accommodation, the usual amenities and food available. Food very good. Breakfast to order only, so full English, etc, rather than a buffet, but was excellent. Staff were great: very friendly and helpful. Location good. Rooms a bit pricey.
- Melanie (8/5): Very good -
- Sharon (10/5): Staff so friendly and helpful - The friendliness of the staff, so helpful N/A
- Brian (8/5): Very good - The bedroom was spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Disappointing first impression from outside the building.
- Lisa (9/5): Fabulous… everything you need all under one roof. - Excellent but still quiet location. Large clean rooms. Great food and drinks. Fantastic breakfast and super lovely staff. If you’re attending Cooling Barn Castle this hotel is a must. The complimentary shuttle was amazing as was the driver. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nothing to dislike
- Rebecca (9/5): Good value stay in friendly pub. Great breakfast!! - Staff were helpful. Room really big and clean. Food choice great and very tasty breakfast. Getting a lift to and from Cooling Castle Barn was a huge bonus so thank you :)
The sports day advertised for the next day sounded really fun and a great community idea. Also will be back to see the classic cars parked up around the green (an event organised by the pub once a month apparently) Tiny niggle (which can’t be helped) but our room really smelled of chip fat as it was above the kitchen extractors.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent place to stay, would definitely stay again - Relaxed Atmosphere, service was very good, staff very friendly, Food excellent and plenty of it
- Lily (10/5): Exceptional -
