Guest Reviews
- PAMELA D (8/5): - Quirky "Lodge," pleasant staff, and the Tower is just outside of your window. Bathroom may not connect to your bedroom!
- Benjamin (10/5): - Wonderful positively tremendous property with a view to die for. Staff and lodge experience also above and beyond. Try to book early to grab one of the Windows rooms to watch the sunrise with the Tower.
- Stacy (10/5): - Staff extremely friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. The optional dinner and included breakfast were some of the tastiest meals we’ve ever had! The views of the were stunning
- Catherine (10/5): - A great experience at the Devil’s Tower Lodge. Clean, comfortable room. Friendly staff with delicious breakfast included. Outstanding location behind the Devil’s Tower. What Hotels.com failed to tell us was that this is a climber’s lodge not luxurious but a cool experience nonetheless.
- Katie (10/5): - Location-Location-Location! The lodge is rustic. The owners and staff were so kind. You are so close to Devil's Tower that it is an unreal experience! We stayed in Burning Daylight but there is not a bad view in the place!
- JoAnn (10/5): - In a word, WOW!!! What a gem this lodge/B and B is. We were warmly greeted by staff member Glen, who showed us around the place and took us to our room, The Green Room. Such a comfortable room, and the icing on the cake was the airy bathroom with toilet and shower looking out a large window right at Devils Tower. There are curtains to close if you are squeamish, but there is only an open field behind the lodge, and honestly, I have never been in such a spectacular bathroom or taken a more splendid shower. Shortly after our arrival I heard baby noises coming from the kitchen, I peeked my head in and met the owner Rachel, and her adorable son, Peter, along with an equally delightful woman who prepares the meals (I have forgotten her name, sorry!). Later on we met Rachels husband, Gabe, who guides rock climbers up the Tower. They are a lovely couple! We had reserved dinner, and ate at a long table with other guests staying at the lodge. We were served an outstanding pasta with meat sauce, delicious homemade bread, and veggies. We left before breakfast was served, but Glen made sure there was coffee ready for us before we hit the road. This is a really special place, we were treated like family and the views and scenery are outstanding. I give it 100 stars!!!
- James (10/5): - Short drive to Tower, we have a view from bedroom window.
- Melanie (10/5): - The 2 bedroom cabin was really nice to spend a night on our way. The view of Bear Lodge (Devil's Tower) is gorgeous. We sat on the deck and drank our coffee. The cabin is very simple with kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom and living room. Beds were comfortable, there's a large bath/shower with a window to the woods and view of devil's Tower. I showered and stared at the tower🙂
The main house also had a deck to sit on with the same view.
At first walking in to the main house was a little odd, it felt like I was walking into someone's home... Like their living room... And then it just FELT like home. The main house has different rooms that guests stay in and a couple big, comfortable leather couches in a cozy living room for guests that is so inviting and warm and there is a long table for family style dinners and breakfast.
We had such great conversation with the other guests. If you stay here, definitely stay for their home made dinner, you won't regret it. The food is delicious and home cooked literally in the kitchen, you can see them cooking, like in your kitchen at home. The owners are a great couple, very kind. They sell Devils Tower tshirts and hats they designed that are better than the ones at the DT store. Buy theirs and support them! We found that we could see the climbers on the tower from the lodge and many climbers stayed there as well as climbing guides.
This was just a great stay and we chatted with the other guests at dinner and breakfast.
Highly recommend!
- Phillip (10/5): - Convenient location, friendly staff, unique rooms that were comfortable. Family style dining was fun and food was great!
- Anita (6/5): - I think calling this a cabin or cottage is misleading. I would say this is more like “glamping”. No frills.
We chose this property based on proximity to Devils Tower, and that did not disappoint. While I give it middle rating, it’s due to the following things-
1. THE SHOWER- the Weissner “cottage” shower is an accident waiting to happen. It’s a garden tub, with a 12 in tiled step, no handle, no treads. We only stayed one night thank god. I did not feel safe using it. My daughter needed help getting out of the tub, she was too scared to step over.
2. Breakfast, sort of. A scoop of eggs, two pancakes, 3 squares of watermelon. I was offered no coffee or juice, only water. They don’t let guests serve themselves, so you are at the mercy of the host to decide if you get anything other than water. No seconds, no other options for those on no gluten diet. I don’t think I should have to ask for juice or coffee, they should just serve it. I had a hungry 20 year old, he left hungry, for us old folks it was just ok.
3. A hotel sized fridge with a full sized stove? No ice?
4. Window shaker a/c and difficult to moderate the temp.
5. No linens for the futons, no sheets and pillowcases for them in the unit.
6. Beds were clean, the faucets were very dank. This place needs a good scrubbing.
We loved the view.from the deck and kitchen, absolutely stunning but this property needs some work. If you go into it knowing these things, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
- Howard (10/5): - Unique mountain climber retreat with adequate accomodations, Natural beauty. Remoteness.
- KEN (10/5): - Everything was wonderful!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quirky, clean and comfortable. We were in the Durrance Suite which was nicely furnished and although the bathroom wasn't exactly ensuite, it was right next to the bedroom and we had exclusive use of it. Our room had a patio with amazing views (the patio could have done with being spruced up by painting a bare wall and adding a few planters).
We opted to have dinner with the other guests. The food was excellent and the company good too. Breakfast was also very good.
Instruction to get to the property were more complex than they had to be, given that the road off the main route to the visitor centre was signposted for a trail and the turn off to the property was just past the trail car park.
- Glenn (10/5): - Great place about 1/3 mile from Visitor Center. Veteran rock climbers run the inn. Homey, clean, quiet, great view of the Tower.
Dinner served family style, interesting to meet other guests. A unique, totally pleasant experience!
- Fredrick (8/5): - The host was very nice and they served a free breakfast
- Kristen (10/5): - We had a wonderful time. We only booked for one night as Devils Tower was just a stop over on our trip. However, if I had known how lovely it was going to be and how much I would enjoy our wonderful room with the beautiful view, we would have stayed longer. Now I know for another time.
- Ruth (10/5): - We had a wonderful night here at the lodge. Our room had a great view of devils tower. Great breakfast in the morning we had an enjoyable time visiting with other guest and the staff was so friendly nice big room.
- Dennis (2/5): - The facility is not ADA accessible and not even possible for my wife to use the facilities. We had to leave the property, give up our payment and find another hotel.
- Marcia (8/5): - turned out lots better than first impression upon arrival. Would stay again.
- Cindy (6/5): - We stayed in the Grande Suite. It has an amazing view of Devils Tower. It is a quick trip up to Devils Tower. The restaurant by the KOA campground had good food and great staff!
- Alejandro (10/5): - Make you feel at home
- Colleen (10/5): - -
- Jane (10/5): - Family dinner and meeting others
- David (10/5): - Great location for a view of the tower. The facilities were nice and the staff very helpful.
- Christine (6/5): - This was not a “lodge” . It was a bed and breakfast. And not especially good at that. Was clean and quiet, but very overpriced
- Shanhong (10/5): - This is a family-style lodge located inside the Devils Tower National Park with beautiful views.
- Vanessa (10/5): - Gabe and his staff are highly recommended; they did and awesome job, thank you for a great and memorable stay
- Jim (10/5): - The view was amazing. Food was great, served family style at one long table.
- Melissa (10/5): - Very close to the Tower. Walking distance to the trails.
- David (10/5): - This was such a nice stay and I will remember it for years to come! It's like staying at a friends house, the people running the lodge are friendly and welcoming and made me feel very much at home. I booked the window room which was so lovely and in case there is any doubt, it has a great view of the tower right through the window so you can sit in bed and gaze at the tower.
The meals were very nice and everybody sits together to eat family-style which is a lot of fun and good to talk to the other guests and staff while you eat. Good wholesome food and coffee is on at 6am; nobody else was up yet but I was able to get some coffee and sit outside my room watching the sun come up around the tower.
If it's important to you - it's not to me - there is no TV in the room but really why would you want to watch TV with that view.
The lodge grounds are super quiet and relaxing.
I can't overstate how enjoyable this visit was and I would very much like to come and stay here again another time.
- Gary (10/5): - isolated with great view of Devils tower. good breakfast and dinner.Friendly staff and owners.
- Joseph (8/5): - View of Bear Lodge from your throne and jacuzzi tub.
- Victor (8/5): - So close to the Devil’s Tower in the woods. Oh , don’t forget the Joyner Ridge trail which is just outside. Staff are so warm and welcoming. As the tower doesn’t need you to spend a lot of time there, highly recommend since it is so convenient!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic stay, location couldn't be better - Fabulous stay. Room had a perfect view of Devil's Tower. Very nice multi-year shower. Really enjoyed the communal meals with guests. Great location less than half a mile from the Joyner trailhead.
- Teresa (8/5): - Beautiful views. Kind owners. Dinner was subpar.
- Edward (10/5): - Great owners! Highly recommend having the family style dinner with the guests and owners.
- Rajan (8/5): - Incredible location with best view of Devil's tower. The lodge itself is basic but it charming and has a great story. Great service by the staff and owner; ability to interact with fellow travelers at the dinner table give it its charm.
- Randi (10/5): - What a great experience! We had a private patio with a view of the Tower. We took advantage of the family style dinner with the other guests. The food was great, the company better. Rachel graciously worked around our special dietary needs. Loved that the staff ate with us and shared their experiences in climbing the tower. They were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Good breakfast in the morning and we were at the tower before all of the crowds showed up at 9am. Highly recommend staying here!
- Robert (10/5): - This place gets a sixth star ******
A secluded location that can only be accessed through the National Monument roads. Nestled in the landscape are cottages, rooms and tent sites. My patio view was a field, trees and Devils Tower rising up out of the earth.
I opted in for dinner in the dining room. What an experience. The host Frank shared stories and pictures of his 20 years of climbing the Tower. One of the other guests who had been there 20 years ago to climd the tower, had brought his adult son there and he was going to climb the next day. I felt like I was ready to take up rock climbing before dinner was over...
This place is not a stay, it's an experience.
- Willard (10/5): - close location to Devils Tower
- Andrew (10/5): - Basically next to the monument, with great views & food.
- Daniel (10/5): Off the beaten path and what a great view!! - A fun place to stay after visiting Devils Tower and what an amazing view of it from our room, actually the bathroom.
Staff were super friendly and shared a lot. Family style meals were a nice change from restaurant meals. Fun to meet other guests.
Dark skies for watching stars and even a bit of the aurora!
- Melissa (10/5): - The perfect location. I mean in the Windows Room we went to sleep and woke up looking at the monument. The staff is absolutely delightful. Sadie and Grace were terrific. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. We were very well taken care of. The Joyner Ridge Trail is nearby and a fairly easy hike.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent location! - Great location next to Devils Tower National Monument. Plenty of space with 2 bedrooms, living room/kitchen, bathroom and deck. Home-cooked breakfast provided was great! A couple of improvements would be to get new sheets and blankets for the futons as current ones are pretty worn out. Also, provide larger supply of coffee in the breakfast area.
- paul (10/5): - great location - staff friendly and helpful - hot tube could use some tender loving care and maintenance. climbing vibe brings back good memories - peaceful mornings - a special stay - hope to be back
- David (10/5): Hidden Jewel at Devils Tower - This is a jewel of a hideaway! A private lodge within view of the tower! Deer outside our window, 1st class comfort and service, plus, for a small fee, a home cooked dinner! Awesome stay.
- Diane (10/5): - Everything was great
- Susie (8/5): - Location was amazing, staff was super friendly and always available to give tips on the area. Food was just ok-but we were so grateful for it after a long day of traveling (that, and there’s pretty much no other food options available for miles). The views from our room were outstanding and it was fun to visit with other guests. If you’re looking for a unique experience about as close as you can get to the tower, this one’s for you!
- Jeffrey (10/5): Amazing - Great view. The cottage is awesome. Get the dinner and get up for breakfast. Pretty rustic and dirt roads.... is why we stayed here but just a heads up. There are bugs ans campers. Would absolutely recommend staying here.
- Stephen (10/5): - Really loved this place - The staff were a huge plus, loved the communal table for meals, and seeing the Milky Way in all its glory at 2:18am was the highlight of our trip.
- Lisa (8/5): - Rachel and staff were great! Cottage was nice -
The area is very limited in amenities.
More patio furniture would have been nice ..
- Lisa (10/5): - Staff was wonderful-
A bit "rustic" - but nice.
- Jose (10/5): Interesting stay - The best thing about this place other than the excellent location is the staff. Warm, friendly, helpful and quick to help you if you need it. Sharing meals and common spaces with other guests may not be your thing, but this is a family style bed & breakfast, so be ready to meet new people. This The food was cooked right there in the home’s kitchen and both breakfast and dinner were tasty and had good quality. If you want entertainment in your room, you’ll have to bring a computer because the only TV we saw was in the shared living room.
- Amy (10/5): - First and foremost, Rachel, Brad, and their workers were awesome hosts. The food was great, rooms clean, etc. But the view of Devil’s Tower from our room and patio was breathtaking! The lodge is actually inside the park, and the Tower parking lot is only a 5-minute drive from the lodge. Highly recommend!
- Tina (10/5): - You are literally right by Devil's Tower. Very nice staff. Breakfast was excellent.
- Judith (10/5): - Wow! What a view. We stayed in the Windows room & woke up to the view of the Tower.
There are two couples running the lodge, they are all very friendly. If you are offered the family dinner at $22.00, take it as the lodge is miles from anywhere, and it is a great place to meet other travellers & swap stories and tips.
- Sarah (10/5): - Great hosts, wonderful food and a terrific view! Definitely recommend!
- Deborah (10/5): - Very plesent, quiet and comfortable.
- Yoshiyuki (10/5): - Super nice location. Super friendly staff.
- Barbara (10/5): - Wonderful people and a amazing location.
We opted for the dinner that night and it was delicious as was the breakfast.
- Lori (10/5): Perfect family cottage - The family cottage is exceptional and the deck view of the Tower makes you smile. The huge mowed yard allowed for tossing a ball, lounging, and stargazing - a blessing during a trip with a lot of driving!
- Onyotse (10/5): - If youre planning on visiting Devils Tower this is the only place youll want to stay. The views from our room were absolutely stunning. There is a deck iut back where you can sip on freshly brewed coffee in the morning and chat with other guests. The hosts are so kind. The lodge is right at the park/monument and walkable if you so choose. This was easily the best stay we had on our journey through the Dakotas. I wish we would have had more time to chat with other guests, but we had finished a long day of driving and sightseeing. We couldn't stay for breakfast since we had to hit the road early after one night stay. Our host graciously gave us some blueberry scones to go as the perfect book end to a wonderful stay.
- Daniel (10/5): - Fantastic unobstructed view of Devils Tower from the porch and dining room. Staff was friendly and low key; home cooked communal dinner and breakfast were excellent, seated at a long, rectangular dinner table. BYOB.
Also, rooms were quiet and odor free.
Highly recommend.
- Susan (10/5): - So amazing to be right under Devil’s Tower at this incredible lodge! Staff welcoming through stay and cooked delicious dinner and breakfast in communal style for guests as they joined us! They are all wonderful and fun to meet and talk to fellow travelers too.
My room had a birdseye view of Devils T! Also a small deck! Easy to get to park early after breakfast as park parking can fill up quickly! Great stop in the road-highly recommend!!!!!!
- James (10/5): Breath taking view Devils Tower - Wow!
What a view.
Home made dinner
Rooms fantastic
- Daniel S (8/5): - Intimate lodge with personable staff for a homelike atmosphere.Onsite dinner and breakfast was good but not great View of Devils Tower was awesome.
- Janice (10/5): - It was a home away from home. Wonderful friendly owners, terrific home cooked meal. Very relaxing and the view of Devil’s Tower is awesome!
- Chris (10/5): - The physical building is incidental to the fabulous setting and the wonderful staff! There's no other comparabe place to stay if you're going to Devils Tower. We loved our stay ❤️ 💜 ♥️ and recommend it to experience the closest proximity, stunning setting, and lovely staff who welcomed us. The breakfast was hot, delicious, and served with pastry prepared for us that morning. They also have an optional dinner, served family style. We enjoyed everything about our stay!
- Michael (10/5): Amazing Encounters - An amazing suite with a stunning patio view of Devils Tower. Add the family style dinner! It was a great way to end the day and nice to sit and eat with some of the seasonal staff.
- Martha (8/5): - The staff is incredibly friendly and hospitable! The Lodge has gorgeous views of Devil's Tower, and a wonderful community feel.
- Richard (8/5): - Very close to Devils T.
- Stacey (10/5): - It was a lovely atmosphere with a kind and welcoming staff. Dinner was so fun and delicious.
- Glenn (10/5): - Great Staff and Views
- Mazin (6/5): - The location is perfect but the dirt road to reach it might be challenging for individuals not used to back road driving.
- Philip (10/5): Devil’s Tower Lodge - We loved this place. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly, plus very informative. The accommodations were great, cozy, and a great location. Yes, a little tough to find, but with GPS not a problem and waking up to a view of Devil’s tower can’t be beat. Breakfast was perfect and the dinner option is a great deal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Recommended for the first timers - We were surprised by how remote this B&B was. Staff was exceptionally nice and we chatted with other guests over a breakfast. Our room had an odd layout but had comfortable bed. Great place for the first timers to visit the Devils Tower.
- Lindsay (10/5): - What an amazing location. The hosts were fabulous. The ambiance was fantastic. The cleanliness will keep me coming back. I can’t wait for my next stay with them. Cool people. Amazing view. Fabulous.
- Julie (10/5): - Remote yet perfect! Excellent host, delicious breakfast!
- Katherine (8/5): - Fantastic view of Devils Tower. Tap water tastes BAD. You can get filtered water in the ktchen, might have warned us when we checked in or even provided some water on the room. The bath tub was full of dead flies (better than live i guess)
- Kathleen (10/5): - Wonderful find! Excellent breakfast!
- Peter (10/5): - The Lodge is the best way to visit and experience Devils Tower.
You’ll hear stories from the owners and other patrons with the Tower looming out the window.
The Lodge is also a Tower climber’s paradise, which also adds to the history and mystic of the mountain and area.
- Patrick (10/5): FABULOUS!!! - We had a fabulous time. We ppted to join the group for dinner and the meal was wonderful. Great conversation among fellow travelers. The room was great and had a perfect view of the tower from the two-person whirlpool tub. Breakfast was also superb followed by a hike around the tower.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful view, fun experience
- Jan (4/5): Get ready for basics - Very disappointing condition of the property. Super expensive for what it was, certainly not value for money. However, the dinner made by Rachel was great, both food and atmosphere, and obviously, proximity of Devils Tower makes this place special.
- Karen (10/5): - Breakfast and dinner were both very good, made better by the view of Devil’s Tower. Decor is interesting and at times humorous.
- Jane P (8/5): - We had great views of Tower out our window. Bed was comfortable and both dinner and lunch were delicious. The owner was very helpful with suggestions for sightseeing in SD.
- Derek (8/5): - The location to Devil's Tower is awesome. Great view of the Tower from the property.
- Jean (10/5): - Without question Frank and his staff made this quaint lodge a jewel. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding and the accommodations excellent. The camaraderie with the guests was a real treat.
- Sigrid (10/5): - The family style dinner was excellent, as was taking my morning coffee with a spectacular view of Devil's Tower.
- Tina (10/5): - It was amazing. The staff and owners are absolutely wonderful people.
- Timothy (10/5): - To get to the hotel is down a gravel road, so there is that. But the view of the Devils Tower is amazing. The hostess is remarkably nice. The accommodations are comfortable. Not much else around, but it was a VERY enjoyable night's stay for my family.
- Ray (10/5): - The lodge is in a completely stunning location with amazing views of Devils Tower and very hospitable owners. This was the best place we stayed at on our trip.
- Barbie E (10/5): The only place to stay at the Tower! - Amazing place to stay and connect. Whether you are hiking the trails or climbing the surrounding area, the lodge, Frank and the amazing group of humans ensure clean rooms, great conversation, fuel-packed delicious meals and a one-of-a-kind view! Thank you again and we will be back!
- Guy (10/5): - Staff is great , will definitely recommend
- Ian (10/5): - Wow, what a location, what a special place to stay. The owners are wonderful, full of stories and inspiration. This is quite simply a breathtaking location. Dinner was special and it was great to meet the owners and fellow guests. BYO bottle of wine to enjoy while watching the stars. Probably the best place (but not “fancy”, if you know what I mean) that I have booked via Expedia. Max score.
- Scott (10/5): - This is a special place. We stayed in grand suite with a window view of the tower. I highly recommend the dinner. It was a much needed home cooked meal. The breakfast was amazing too! This place feels like you are visiting a home. The staff are very friendly and we enjoyed meeting the other guests. This is a one-of-kind experience.
- Maureen (10/5): - We loved it! The dinner with other travelers was perfect. The fellowship was amazing. Highly recommend this property
- Ryan (10/5): - We had a great time. If you plan is to see the Tower then you want to stay here. Good food good company. Great Sunset views
- Kirk (10/5): - The host was amazing, the staff was amazing, this was maybe our favorite stop on our vacation and we will definitely return, maybe for 2-3 nights and even attempt to climb the Tower! The location is amazing and the fellowship at meal times was memorable. Highly recommend!
