Guest Reviews
- Sasitharan (8/5): - Good view , big balcony, near to the attractions.
No heating in the room.
- Delmis (10/5): - Gracias al staff muy amables
- Paula (8/5): - Older hotel but good value for the money. No breakfast but many places within meters of the front door with very affordable options.
- Jennifer (6/5): - The staff were very keen to meet every need. The building is still being renovated and will be spectacular when completed, I’m sure. It’s an easy walk to Plaza San Francisco and that central area.
However the bathrooms were not updated, although functional and the bedrooms are large with multiple beds to accommodate families. All could do with an update.
The rooftop area was a nice surprise. Clean tables and chairs, a local view, nice and sunny for a morning cuppa which you are able to help yourself to at any time.
The wifi didn’t rate highly and was difficult to get mostly.
Great central position, lovely helpful staff, and very affordable.
- Kevin (10/5): - Beautiful historic property close to all the main attractions in downtown Quito. Carlos and his staff took care of me during my stay in Quito. Highly recommend!
- Elaine (8/5): - We enjoyed being in the heart of Old town Quito and looking at the historic building. The staff were very accommodating (despite our lack of Spanish), helped us with our luggage, and patiently explained some of the basics of where we were located. They even drew us a map to a lovely hilltop restaurant from which we could see all around the city. When we got somewhat confused heading back to the hotel, the local people helped us find where we needed to be.
- Charlyne (10/5): - The owner and the staff were always very kind. The room and sheets were cleaned thoroughly every day without request. Centric right in the center of the historic part of the city, which made it very accessible to visit multiple sites and a multitude of restaurants and cafes.
- Nichole (8/5): - Great service in a cute place! The top floor had an amazing terrace with great views. The location was good to be in a central area of old historic Quito , but I didn't like the vibe after dark. I would definitely stay here again!!
- Charlie (10/5): 👍 - Staff friendly and very helpful, great location, close to everything
- RAYLETTE (10/5): - I like the location it was close to all my need
- Júlio César (8/5): Custo-benefício bom! - Hotel simples, antigo, mas bem localizado. Tive um problema com a ducha, mas me trocaram de quarto imediatamente.
- Gustavo (6/5): - The room was cold during the night
- Patricia (8/5): - It was comfortable enough. My only complaint was that my room was on the Main Street and was extremely nosey.
- Paula (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel has a certain old-fashioned wood-panel charm and is ideally located to walk to places of historical interest. Fine during the day; use caution after dusk.
Bonus for English-language tv addicts: Directv with tons of English movie and sports channels.

- Claire (10/5): Fab hotel- excellent value for money - I really enjoyed my stay here to the extent that I stayed an additional two nights. As a solo traveller who has visited over 60 countries, I can honestly say this hotel is excellent value for money. Yes, it’s a little rough around the edges with a little wear and tear, but it was spotlessly clean. There’s also the added bonus of free tea and coffee on the terrace- I would spend many a morning drinking coffee and watching the people on the street below. It is in a bit of a dodgy area ( lots of prostitutes on the street below) but I always felt extremely safe and you cannot beat the location- close to everything in the historic centre. Yes, the staff didn’t speak English but we got by ( I’m in Ecuador, I should be speaking Spanish!). On my last day there I had trouble getting a taxi to Papallacta due to restrictions of cars in Quito on a Sunday- the owner’s son helped me no problem. I cannot recommend this hotel enough- I had a fantastic stay.
- William (10/5): - Convenient to the Old City of Quito.
- Danielle (4/5): Nothing like it was advertised - The interior is nothing like the Hotels.com photos. You can see hints of how beautiful it must have once been but the interior has been renovated down to a small area with walls and doors in odd places. There is no huge elegant lobby as pictured. The staff did not speak English or French as stated in the listing, and they were rude to my French Canadian husband because of his novice Spanish. The wifi was not free and easy we had to ask for it 3 times and eventually someone came to our room and helped us log in. There were no black out drapes, no free water, and I booked a double bed thinking we would get the lovely spacious room shown with tall wooden window frames, but got put in the "quadruple family room" with metal windows and peeling plastic coatings. The window in the bathroom was partly in the shower and broken, and the interior of the hotel was mostly dark as the lights were on motion sensors, inside! For $45 USD it was awful, not clean with many hairs on the bathroom floor and someone else's towels hanging on the bar on the shower door. VERY disappointing, along with the noise, and prostitutes on the street corner outside. Not a nice area of town, and even our taxi driver was shocked at how much they charged us to stay there one night. Thankfully the rest of our entire trip was wonderful and the Ecuadorian's were welcoming and friendly.
Please update this Hotel's information so people are not shocked and scammed!
- Allan (8/5): Central yup - right where the most noise is... - Right on one of the main streets of old downtown - the noisiest hotel I have ever been in. Traficc thru closed windows kept me up all night. Mgmt changed rooms for me to a side street room - still too noisy to enjoy. Quite cheap, and was clean, but ended up walking away from my last two paid nights so I could sleep before my next round of flights.
- Callum (10/5): - Lovely staff, lovely clean hotel, great location. A clean secure hotel in the heart of Quito old town for under $20 a night - how can you say no to that !?
- Jan (10/5): - Was noisy Sunday night but Monday quiet
- Stephen (10/5): Location! - Amazing location. Hotel is clean and comfortable.
- ayse (6/5): - Rooms are good but too much noisy.I could not sleep very well.Location is good.
- Carl (8/5): Great value - Adequate facilities with a very friendly staff. A bit noisy part of town. Great value!
- Thia (10/5): Good Location - Good location, comfortable and nice room but noisy from the busy street. Very nice and friendly manager and staff.
- Harvey (8/5): - Clean, friendly staff. No perks nothing extra.. clean room friendly staff. Area is rough after hrs, noisy at night but overall ok. Be in by 7 should be fine. When leaving and returning be alert. It’s not unsafe just common sense
- Pamela (10/5): - Great location and atmosphere
- STEPHANE (6/5): - It can be very noisy as you can hear the traffic from your room. There’s no drinking water available from your room and to come and go you need to have someone in the lobby opening the door. Overall average.
- Derick (10/5): Wonderful Place. Great Staff - The hotel staff were amazing! Thank you so much for your attention to detail and service. My stay in Quito was excellent because of Hotel Plaza del Teatro.
- Andrew (6/5): - It was okay for one night. It isn't in the best area of the city, but you get what you for.
- Tony (10/5): - Myself, my wife and daughter stayed at this property for 3 nights prior to heading to Catamayo to stay with my wife’s family. I have stayed in a number of hotels on previous visits to Ecuador so know the standards to expect. Yes it’s true the rooms could do with being updated but the standard of room was fine for us. The staff are extremely helpful and will do anything to help and make your stay as memorable as possible. The area where the hotel is located is great for exploring the old town, the Equator city is a short cab or a bus ride away and should not be missed. The area around the hotel is fine. All in all we had a great stay and the staff are excellent, some don’t speak much English but if that’s a problem
For you I would say it’s more of a you problem than a them problem, remember the native tongue is Spanish so the onus is on you. Great stay thank you to all the staff who made it that more enjoyable.
- Leslie (8/5): - Very cool heritage building near the historical core of the city. Walking distance to nearby sites and attractions, including churches, markets, etc. Carlos, nephew of the hotel owner, went out of his way to assist me during the course of my stay, going well above and beyond the normal level one would expect of staff in a heritage hotel. Much appreciated. If you are looking for an inexpensive option for accommodation in Quito, rather than the cookie-cutter chain hotel experience, this is the place to stay. Would definitely stay here again in future.
- Luca (10/5): - I stayed at Hotel plaza del teatro on 2 occasions during my stay in Ecuador. The location is excellent for walking around the historic centre and the staff were very helpful. Would definitely recommend.
- Timur (8/5): Beautiful hotel in historic district - A beautiful colonial building in old town. There is a roof terrace with water and coffee. Room was ok although the door was transparent and you could see silhouettes outside. Wouldn't stay there for more than one night.
- paul (10/5): - I'm flying out of Quito at the end of my trip, and because of COVID testing, I'm staying near the airport, otherwise I would of returned to the Hotel del Teatro.
- Lourdes (10/5): - Excellent place to stay. Only need a coffee maker. Bathroom need some upgrades as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is right in the middle of the old center and it's a beautiful 200 year old property which made us really feel like we were in the cultural center of Quito. Carlos spoke very good English and was very helpful, answered all our questions, and went above and beyond to accommodate us and all our needs. He even set up an appointment for us at a clinic to get our Covid 19 test so we could travel back to the US. The rest of the staff was also very respectful and accommodating. We would highly recommend this hotel for your stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a great hotel for the price in an excellent location. The staff genuinely care. Most hotels in the area have street noise. The traffic will start to get loaud around 6:30.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A historic hotel in the old part of the city. Reasonably priced and very clean. The very attentive staff made for an enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff, Carlos, was so incredibly kind & helpful. The hotel offered us a ride to & from the airport for a small fee. The hotel is beautiful, a lot of character. Only complaint would be how noisy our room on the 3rd floor was (all night long due to outside traffic). The beds & pillows were a bit hard.
- Ben (10/5): - Very historic hotel with genuine historic feeling. On the third floor is an open air common area. So many amazing historical places tp visit nearby!
- Verified traveler (10/5): A Very Welcoming Place - Carlos the manager was super helpful! Location was close to all the sites we wanted to see. We felt safe here.
- David (4/5): - So much to say, i was overcharged 10 percent to use a credit card, no previous mention to this charge. Some rooms have sheer curtains. Pillows seem filthy as well as bed sheets seem to have not been changed as they had apparently fresh blood stains. Room very dusty. No free bottled water as suggested. Was able to change room from a sheer curtained room so tgere is that positive.
- Shafiq (6/5): - The biggest problem is English plus they charge 10 percent on card
- Chantal (10/5): Great location and staff - The staff at this location are excellent, particularly the manager Carlos. They accommodated both Ann early check in as well as a late check out. They also arranged for two tracks to transfer our entire family to the airport. Aside from the very firm mattresses, we found the rooms very comfortable. The provision of 24/7 self serve coffee and tea was also much appreciated. The location is excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The manager was extremely helpful with pointing out places to see and do
- HotelPlaza (2/5): - The area where the hotel is located is not safe. Foreigners are robbed in plane day light, no police available in the area, very dangerous at night, and worst of all prostitutes are roaming the hotel 24/7
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great people great location. A hidden gem close to restaurants Great owner and staff. Airline lost my luggage and they were very helpful!!!! Stay here you will not regret it!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A beautiful old colonial building, very welcoming staff and a fantastic location for walking around the city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The roof terrace is beautiful. Excellent staff, so friendly and helpful
- Richard (10/5): Good choice - Excellent location. Good security. High standard of fittings. Carlos was extremely helpful in organizing and amending my activities.
- Avi (8/5): - The location is a walking distance from the historic center however it is not feel safe at night
- Bobbie (10/5): Awesome hotel and staff - This place is beautiful and the staff are wonderful. Short distance from major attraction. I would love to stay here again!
- Melissa (10/5): Great stay! - We had a group of around 24 people and this hotel was perfect for the group. Carlos was amazing and went the extra mile for our group. We had hot water and we were very comfortable with everything. We will definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - everything was okay during my stay at the hotel. I
- Jason (10/5): - This hotel is located near the middle of old town Quito, as such, is a bit noisy during the busy hours. That being said, it gets quiet near bedtime. This hotel is in walking distance of all the main squares and the Cathedral and many restaurants. I became sick with food poisoning after I left the Galapagos and this was my first hotel in Quito. The manager, Carlos became aware and definitely took care of me! He made sure I kept hydrated with bottled water, checked up on me, and once I was well enough to walk around, actually walked me to a restaurant that was safe to eat. He actually got me some medication to help my condition. He spoke very good english and was a big time help! Definitely the type of person you want on your side while visiting Quito. If you want to experience old town Quito and have a great stay, this is the place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly. Cute old hotel. Great location to everything. Would def stay here again.
