We were under the assumption that we had a room for 4 people and were told upon arrive that wasn’t possible and was no refund would be made for suite booked. Milan (10/5): Nice romantic place, but needed to improve some small things to be 5* - A beautiful, peaceful place. I recommend a room with a balcony. We give it full marks despite some shortcomings. Hopefully they will learn from this and next time everything will be 100%. Terra restaurant disastrous. The waiter couldn't explain what was on offer. You buy a multi-course menu, but you don't know what. When we asked, the waiter was arrogant. The same thing happened when choosing wine. The food was simple, uninteresting, and unimpressive. We were disappointed, as the upper restaurant had been an excellent experience the previous day in terms of both food and service. There was also a big problem with the bathtub in the room. If you want to fill the bathtub, you have to start 2 hours in advance. The water pressure was very low. Clearly unresolved. No room service!! Expected in 5* class

The parking was a little tricky, and the road to get there a little bit scary but otherwise no complaints at all!

Seth (8/5): Amazing retreat with good views but far from the city - The views from the location are spectacular but this comes at a price. The staff was very friendly and helpful! Each morning breakfast was full of great food and beautiful surroundings. Arriving to the property is not easy for an out of town driver. The switchbacks on the road were difficult to navigate and the roads are barely wide enough to accommodate one car in either direction. Locals drive fast and leave minimal room to navigate the road when coming toward you. The drive to Lavagna or Sestri levanti is 15-20 min each way so this is a bit of a hassle. For these reasons I don’t know if the spectacular views make up for this.

Sarah (7/5): Very good! - The breakfast was amazing, staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The restaurant Terra was fabulous. The view from our room was spectacular and the hotel gave us an upgrade for our honeymoon. The road up to the property is very tricky to navigate. The outdoor wellness centre didn’t open as early as we’d hoped. The gym is still yet to open.
Dan (10/5): Very nice property with amazing views - We had an great time there, even with the bad weather. Rooms are large (at least the one we've had), modern and very well cleaned. It's very well placed, not too far from Portofino, and with a little effort (and a car) even the Cinque Terre can be visited from this base. Both restaurants are very good quality, we've had dinner in both of them. Breakfast is not buffet, so it's difficult to compare it with other 5 star hotels, but it's good enough. The personnel in the reception is not exactly 5 star and there's a lot of noise from the cleaning people.

The location in Lavagna is perfect for a relaxing getaway, offering both seclusion and proximity to local attractions. The rooms are tastefully decorated, blending modern amenities with Mediterranean charm, and the attention to detail is commendable. The outdoor dining area is one of the highlights, with beautiful sunsets that enhance the dining experience. The staff were incredibly attentive and welcoming, adding a personal touch to the stay. While the experience was nearly flawless, the only minor issue was the Wi-Fi signal, which occasionally dropped in certain areas. However, this hardly detracted from the overall relaxation and enjoyment.
Nazanin (10/5): - The property was great and so was the service by the staff. The staff was very attentive and paid close attention to every detail. The location was very hard to get with very narrow roads with space for one car only but this is typical for Italy. For a tourist that had not been to the location before I would probably stay somewhere closer to the town but if you are looking for relaxation this is the spot for you.

Roland (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible service, staff is truly dedicated to the guests. It’s easy to do a day trip to cinque terra or portofino from nearby train stations. Restaurants were great, especially Terra. There can be instances in Lavagna where there are no available cabs and you have to wait 20 minutes for the Hotel to call a cab.

Brenda (10/5): - Wow! Villa Riviera had breathtaking views, was superbly decorated with an incredibly attentive staff. The two dining options on property were absolutely delicious! The heated infinity pool was lovely and my husband enjoyed the saunas. Overall, it was a relaxing and incredible stay!

Lots of young people that work in the hotel but they're all very professional and make your stay very comfortable. Breakfast was very good with a very professional service. The stay is rather expensive but the service was also extremely high-end.
Jordan (10/5): - It’s an adventure…not your typical 5-star, but still worth every star. Hidden away up a mountain, behind narrow winding roads, you find this ancient villa and monetary that’s been converted into a modern resort with two fine dining restaurants. Get a room with a view of the sea, and every sunset will transport you back to old Italy.

The wardrobe in my room was too tiny - it was just about right for a 2 night stay of a single person. Given the location in which the resort is situated, a free shuttle should be available for guests, at least to get to the nearest beaches.

The kitchen went above and beyond to work around our dietary restrictions and the resort was blissfully quiet the entire time. Conor (9/5): Stunning isolated luxury hotel - Stunning location! Room was big, clean and well appointed. Staff were attentive and friendly. A good example was they provided extra tea facilities every day after we asked on day one. Pool area and sun loungers were perfect, with bar by the pool also. Happily sat in sun looking at views all day. The two restaurants are also excellent, Terra in particular is the better of the two with authentic Italian food that was excellent. Aria has slightly more formal offering and the views. Overall a wonderful location that I'd 100% recommend At the price point I would not expect to have to pay for things like water by the pool which was disappointing. Location is isolated so nothing nearby (20 min drive) which is both a pro and con. Cinque terra is 1.5hr away and portofino 1.2 hour.
