Felix (1/5): Stay away !!! - Stay away from this place ! First of all, I requested to book and extra night before my stay, after reaching out a few times they never answered me so I had to spend the first night in another location. Second : A staff member walked into my room when I was inside without even knocking on the door and didn’t event apologize when he realized I was inside before leaving. Third : The hotel charged me a 250$ + taxes smoking fee even though I did not smoke in the room and stopped smoking (cigarettes) on the balcony after they told me I was not allowed to. They told me it was a warning and that I would not be charged and I discovered on my final bill that they did charge me !!! The incompetent GM who I talked to about it told me that another guest said I was smoking again (which was not true) so they decided to charge me without even checking !!! I asked him to remove this abusive charge and he declined telling me that I could tell my bank to decline the payment. Wtf? This is incredible, I will file a complaint about this hotel. Fourth : Breakfast was disgusting and very expensive for what it was.

Patricia (5/5): Short - The cleanliness and the front staff were nice. The restaurant and bar were closed for renovations. They should have alerted guests prior, as we would have gone to another hotel. They could have sent an email saying it was closed. It was chilly and rainy, and we had to eat at the pool bar both lunch and dinner, which was not cheap. Between the hotel and food, along with the resort fee, the total came to well over $ 1,000 for one night. The mattresses were hard and seemed of poor quality. we wont be back. As a long-time Marriott member, we wont be staying at this hotel in the future.

Edward (9/5): Very nice hotel, would stay there again. - Pool area is exceptional, including both a large, heated jacuzzi and cold plunge pool. It could get noisy during the middle of the day, with more children using it than I might have anticipated. The balcony in our room was a big plus and definitely worth the extra money. Location is excellent, with restaurants and attractions within a 10 to 15 minute walk. There were a few quirks, such as the inability to provide a "do not disturb" sign for the door. They also ran out of pool towels one day and took several hours to replenish them.

KatyM00 (4/5): The worst customer service I’ve experienced in years - My boyfriend and stayed at the Modern to enjoy a romantic weekend in Sarasota. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff was absolutely horrendous. The women were rude and abrupt. We left our room at 9am and arrived back at 4pm to get ready for dinner only to find that our room still had not been cleaned or towels restocked. When asking for a later checkout, the front desk was incredibly unprofessional. There were bags of waste and dirty towels left in the corner of the hallway for the 48 hours of our stay. Pretty much any staff we encountered was very rude. We will not be returning.

jkbeasley (8/5): Spacious and suitable, but may need some spiffing - This is a very well designed hotel. The rooms are spacious and the banquet seating made lounging and having places to sit and use for luggage very easy. The bathroom had only a single sink, but it was large for the area, and the shower was excellent no leakage whatsoever with a walk in without a door. Since this is a pool/waterfront-ish hotel, there should be more hooks on the walls for towels, and there were plenty of wall space for them. We had to ask for towels very often, and the number of towels should reflect its location. The room is spacious, the balcony very accessible with large palm trees, providing privacy over the pool area. The beds might need a firmer upgrade or at least have the option for a firm mattress. The pool area was spectacular divided up into three zones among a lap pool, a large, hot tub and cold plunge pool, which was extremely refreshing. Bar service was great and you can get the inventive menu at the pool. It really is a nice location, however, very quiet in the rosemary neighborhood with the arts Café nearby and other shops and restaurants.

kneel126 (6/5): NOT RECOMMENDED - Our experience had nothing particularly good and nothing seriously bad, in short, The Modern is blah. Check in was slow - one desk person who was extremely unskilled in using her laptop. As she struggled, the line kept growing and people became impatient. Finally, in completing the check in, we were informed that we were upgraded to the room we actually selected and were paying for. Desk attendant had nothing to say. Room (a deluxe king junior suite) was OK, but furniture is aging and needs a refresh. Bathroom sink was chipped and shower had rust at its threshold. Most significantly, in what was probably "value engineering" the room had one air-conditioning inflow - in the ceiling in the sitting area and the cool air in a HOT climate did not get to the sleeping area. Further, in what was probably an effort in "energy conservation" the room got extremely hot in the middle of the night. We guess that there was a programmed cur back in cooling to save energy a/k/a money.

They should, though… Background about this review: Just a(n) honest review from a traveler who has been around a bit. This is my 4th visit here over the past 5ish years. 700 nights with Marriott and a couple hundred with another brand. 😃 The property: I think it’s about 90 rooms on 5 floors. It is a boutique - in a good way. The ground floor has some cool walk to the pool rooms; 4th and 5th have nice suites with tubs on balconies plus some lovely Rosemary suites. I am not sure about 2nd and 3rd. The Pool area: It’s lovely. 3 bodies of water: (1) large and well heated pool with plenty of seating around it; (2) a cold plunge pool and (3) a very large hot tub. There is a pool side bar with food and drink. Hours are “limited” in the summer but Will is awesome. Wink Wink- Medium sized bar and restaurant inside. The breakfast is solid. Never really had lunch. Dinner is a small menu but quite decent. Daniel was great during brekkie, and Toni was quite tolerant of us during dinner. 😊 The awesome Staff: I specifically want to thank, in no particular order: Daniel, Toni, Will, and of course, last but certainly not least Marrissa. All were exceptional! I also know I’m missing two other staff members who checked us in and provided beach gear! Our stay: We visited during a late summer weekend. Checkin was a breeze, and staff happily and quickly brought us more bedding, pillows, a package and glassware. A phenomenal clean, spacious suite with SRQ and pool view. Excellent location in close proximity to food and drink. Other details: Ice on all floors but 5. Beach gear provided for free at desk. Elite perk is free brekkie.

U4859DOjulies (10/5): - My husband and I stayed there July 20, 2025. It was our first time there and we were able to upgrade to a junior suite which was very clean, comfortable and spacious. We're local to the Sarasota area and just stayed one night to get out of the house. The pools were very clean and the area was comfortable...plenty of umbrellas to escape from the sun. Lively outdoor bar. We also dined inside at Wink, Wink and sat at the bar. We were served by Lexi during the day and Mike in the evening. Both were excellent bartenders and made us feel very comfortable. Service and drinks were great. I would highly suggest this property, as its and easy walk to downtown Sarasota and also to walk over the Ringling Bridge for some excercise.

My family and I stayed for 4 July weekend . Pool area is as described in the pictures nice But not worth luxury price. Bathtub clogs . Second day when we came back from the beach, the room wasn’t clean. We were disappointed. We had to make our own beds . Not worth the price !
WanderlustingMom (10/5): Great Pool - Fun for Families - This hotel is fantastic. The pool is phenomenal and the activities for kids are great. I loved having the cold plunge after being on my feet walking around in the hot Florida sun. The outdoor bar is great with wonderful options and the restaurant too. My only complaint would be with the coffee maker in the room - it didn’t work, but it didn’t matter because there was coffee in the lobby. My daughter loved being able to get a drumstick upon check-in and the music played on the record player in the lobby. She also loved the cookies set out in the afternoon. This will be our go to spot when we come to Sarasota!

Kris (6/5): Great Possibilities - We were excited to stay at the Sarasota Modern. Having the valet parking was a nice touch so we knew we were in for a treat at the hotel. Unfortunately when walking into the lobby we weren't impressed. The front desk and surrounding furniture were really rundown. The front desk had marks, chips, etc. This is a customer's first impression so you want to make it impactful. The elevators (though cool vibe with wallpaper) had a bad odor that wasn't appealing. The room itself was very nice and comfortable. The room was what we expected. The bar area was very nice too and the overall staff were excellent. Just a few updates would have taken this rating from a 3 to a 5.
Stevenugent83 (6/5): Very very mixed. - We had lots of issues with our booking, we were supposed to have parking etc included, but took days to sort this. Two staff members seemed quite confused about what to do, but the male staff member the next day reassured us a lot and told us it would 100% be sorted. Bed was not very comfortable and pillows were awful, they looked very plump, but as soon as you laid down on them they deflated like a sad balloon. Restaurant had very limited choice, and it had different food on the room service menu which we were not allowed to order in the restaurant itself (why?) Food in restaurant was mixed, burger was nice, but the steak was barebones and just covered in a sauce that did not taste great. One server in restaurant was very rude too chasing after us in an aggressive way because I hadn't signed the receipt (which was already paid, not charged to the room) Pool and some of the other hotel amenities were amazing, as was "Reggie" the VW bus we could use as a free taxi. The fact we could get as much free water as needed was great and badly needed. As I said, very mixed, I enjoyed the room and loved the 3 pools. but some parts ruined the experience.

Aline (8/5): - Overall, it was a great experience - I liked it so much, I've already booked a return trip while I was staying in the hotel. However, some of the staff seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else. I had a few questions upon checking in the person behind the desk was less then enthusiastic when speaking with me. Once I was in my room, I noticed the hotel room door didn't lock; they sent someone to come fix it but he told me it wasn't broken & wouldn't really take anything else for an answer, so my entire four night stay the door was half unlocked. Later that first day, I noticed the patio door didn't lock; the hotel sent someone to fix it, which they did with gracious speed. Day two my tv wasn't working, when I called to have someone look at it they didn't have anyone available, had to wait until the next day. Day 3, tv didn't work, they sent someone to fix it. Day 4, tv didn't work, they once again sent someone to fix it. Aside from the room issues, it was a nice stay. The pool/cabanas/wink wink restaurant was great. Kelly at the pool bar is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! She really made our time at the pool wonderful, same with Jersey. I was able to meet Brittney as well, the three of them deserve a raise, really great customer service. Would recommend & plan to stay again, just hope to have less issues in the room!

Had a King room and it was really small - narrow space between the bed and the TV. Shower was very tiny - almost impossible to take a shower without getting your hair wet. Room was supposed to be cleaned but, although we left it empty for 5 hours during the day, it was not cleaned - and we even saw the cleaning staff as we were leaving the room and said we were going out.

lorettaw506 (10/5): Thank you Brittany & Jonathan! - We have stayed with the Modern in prior visits to Sarasota and have always been very pleased with the stay, everything has been clean, efficient and staff have been terrific. Our last stay in Jan of 2025, we had some HVAC issues with the room that the engineers needed additional time to correct. Once we brought the matter to Jonathan and Brittany, they went above and beyond to accommodate a rapid room transfer and a complimentary upgrade as well. We also were provided with a delicious breakfast from Wink Wink. Not only was our stay wonderful, but Brittany and Jonathan made it a perfect week by making us feel very valued. It is truly the people that make a business successful and thank you for having such fantastic employees at this location! We will be back!
apple12-6-1943 (2/5): Horrible, would NEVER go back, nor would the other 2 couples with us. - This hotel was a nightmare!!!!! They overcharged us and said they could not give us a receipt because the computers were down. This was 1/14/25, today is 2/2/2025, no statement, the accounting department, Bill, has not returned our two calls. This was a problem for our 2 other couples that joined us as well. Still trying to work it out, still no receipt, we keep asking!

Verified traveler (6/5): Understaffed, poorly ,managed - A bad check-in e experience (no clerk anywhere, no drink) started things on the wrong foot. Hidden “resort fees” of $28 per day were outrageous. Pool bar was out of wine glasses and most beer. Only one bar tender doing her best with many customers. The room was nice. The pool,area is very nice. The staff is insufficient to maintain an illusion of luxury.
Julie (4/5): - There were a lot of added costs at this property. Parking $35 per day, resort fee $28 per day, extra person fee for our child $15 per day. The pool area and bartenders were the shining star of this property. Housekeeping was terrible. Our room was cleaned 1 time in the 4 days we were at the hotel. After calling and asking for service twice in one day, and being promised they would come, it never happened. The next day, we finally got the room serviced, but they did not make the bed in the loft bed. The front desk did nothing to accomodate for the issues, and informed us that management weren't around to talk to.

judys667 (10/5): great place, great location - Brittany (manager) was so accommodating and friendly. Rooms are clean and the pool area is very relaxing. Love the balconies. We have stayed here twice now in the past few months. We were in Sarasota more for taking care of business than pleasure, but we felt very comfortable in our long term stays. Wink Wink is the coolest Bar/Rest. right on premises. Food is very good and creative. We eat there several times and loved it all. The hotel has a cool retro vibe. Shout out the valets- very professional

Jodie (4/5): - I feel like 4pm check in is late. Came at 2 to see about early check-in, no rooms were available until 4. But check out is at 11am.... no toast at check-in. 4 stars, really? Definitely underwhelmed. Let down.

Verified traveler (8/5): - There due to hurricane. Hard to get a hold of front desk and the valet ..no one answering the calls. went down to desk and the valet was asleep in his car. Can't believe the charge 35$ to park and terrible service.

Elizabeth (8/5): Nothing outstanding - There was no Kleenex/tissue in the room. I requested it from cleaning staff and was told there was none. There is a sign in the bathroom asking guests to conserve towels. There is one hook in the bathroom. Two people shower, use bath towels, wash clothes and face towels. There is no place to hang them after use. Conserving means reusing these wet things for two days. Add towel bars if you expect us to reuse them. No one to assist with luggage when arriving or leaving.

Karen (10/5): - The rooms are large. The staff was super nice! The door lock was an issue I think they still need to fix. But the staff was really happy, super important. The pool was quaint. Hot tub/ pool is a big size.
Avionne (5/5): Nice enough stay - Staff was great! Loved the food option very convenient. Location was good Wasn't aware ahead of time it was valet parking only, could have been better prepared if notified ahead if time. Was given the wrong room style. Noticed a few ants on the walls. Also water pressure was not good at all.
Tracey (10/5): - From the time we checked in to the time we checked-out, our stay was enhanced by the service of Brittney at the front desk and Will at the pool bar. Brittney is outgoing and personable - she kept us informed about our stay and was very accommodating. Will took great care of us at the pool and we are thankful for both of them for their care and going the extra mile.
Josh (10/5): - Chuck and Reggie the microbus were especially awesome! Front desk staff were fantastic. Fun place to stay.
