Guest Reviews
- Alison (9/5): Good - The atmostphere Poor internet
Lightening in room
- Catherine (9/5): Excellent - would stay here again. - It has a good location, close to a lovely green space to walk our dog. It was a short walk away from the centre of Durham. Our room was quiet and a good size.
The staff were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food, both our evening meal and breakfast, was delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot. Our bedroom was a bit hot and the windows I tried didn’t open.
- Darren (3/5): Disappointed with the accommodation and didn’t reflect on the £150 we paid. - Great location and lovely bar/restaurant area. The double bed was tiny and we hardly slept due to this and other inconsiderate guests. We paid for a late check out (12pm) but ended up leaving at 8.30am
- melanie (7/5): okay stay but food was low standard. I would avoid breakfast and go elsewhere. - The room was okay and the bed comfortable. We were stood waiting to check in for at least 10 minutes before someone even acknowledged us. the room was nice but very dark. Breakfast was so small, one of each item and no choice of coffee or milk alternatives. Staff were not very attentive and we had to wait a long time for check in. Food at the bar took ages to come and my chicken burger wasn't a burger, it was a chicken fillet in a bun that was luke warm.
- Michelle (7/5): Great food, staff brilliant! Thankyou - Lovely country pub feel Bedrooms were far too small, very expensive £190 a night without breakfast, we were expecting a little more.
- Megan (8/5): -
- Andy (9/5): Been at the Kings Lodge Inn several times. I'll be back again. For sure!! -
- Christel (8/5): - Super zentral, sehr freundliches Personal,
sehr gut auf mitreisende Hunde eingestellt,
würde jederzeit wieder dort buchen Nichts zu beanstanden
- Melissa (9/5): Country-style inn with a good restaurant/pub, bit of a walk to city attractions, lovely park behind. - Comfortable inn with a lovely nature park right behind it. The bar/restaurant was excellent and spacious. The wifi was flaky and difficult to use. You need to be prepared to walk into the city center (up a rather steep hill) or have a vehicle.
- Mary (9/5): A great find - A lovely place, nice rooms, bar and restaurant Our room could use better lighting
- Frances (9/5): -
- John Wesley (4/5): -
- Joanna (8/5): Lovely and conveniet hotel. - The room was nice and clean and the bed comfortable. The staff were really helpful and friendly. It was nice to be able to book a single room rather than have to book a double. The breakfast was nice - cooked and cold option.
- Erik Sprenger (9/5): -
- Clare (10/5): Friendly, helpful, professional staff. Spotless and a warm welcome - Clean, central, value for money N/a
- Kenneth (10/5): -
- Christine (7/5): Very pleasant. - Good breakfast, cooked to order. Pleasant room over looking garden. Walking distance to train station. Noisy neighbours in another room.
- Felix (8/5): Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis - Lage
- Megan (5/5): great location and good price. but you get what you pay for. room was dated and beds were okay. - room was quite dated. clean, but not high quality. beds and pillows were okay.
- Sue (6/5): Okay for our one night visit because it was confidently located and parking on site. - Position was good for walking into city Room was very cramped and dark.
- dave (8/5): - Good food reasonabl priced, clean room
- emma (7/5): -
- Nicola (9/5): Great choice for a stay in Durham - The location was perfect. Easy walking to the centre of Durham but a quiet location. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of car parking. Very clean rooms. Nice bar and restaurant. Nothing we didn’t like.
- Pauline (10/5): -
- Antony (8/5): -
- Amanda (9/5): Lovely stay in Durham - We had a very warm welcome. We had lovely clean rooms with a good shower etc. The cooked breakfast was very good but we felt the range of pastries etc could have been better. Convenient for the city centre and an enjoyable stay We would have liked a secure store for our luggage
- Simon (8/5): All good - All good
- Katharine (7/5): Overall a very pleasant stay. Could improve on its breakfast, and its communication. - The room was pleasant with a proper single bed as well as a double for the 3 of us. The breakfast was confusing and messy: the choice of food laid out in the buffet was poor and not very healthy, especially given the price paid for the room; the system seemed to be self-help half buffet and half on a menu. No one explained it or came over to ask what we might like from the menu. The hot water was not really hot for tea at the buffet. The service was slow. The whole process was confusing. Then someone at the bar tried to charge us for ordering a hot chocolate instead of tea or coffee.
- Lisawelton74 (10/5): Great night away - Great location & very friendly, knowledgable staff
- Augusto (9/5): - The place is very well maintained and the staff is very welcome. Nice room, comfy beds, has a pleasant stay.
- Nicola (10/5): A very nice hotel and bar. - The bar Slightly too far away from the castle. I had an elderly person with me & our main reason to visit Durham was for the castle/cathedral.
- Brian (8/5): - Good location, excellent feel
- Esme (8/5): -
- Alice (6/5): Fine but too expensive for room provided - I would not go back - The check in and check out were booth fine with friendly staff and they were helpful re booking a taxi. The dreary single room was quite depressing. At around £100 that would have been fine for one night stop over as I was arriving late and leaving before breakfast but at almost £200 it seemed poor value for money.
- ian (8/5): - Excellent location and a very nice restaurant No issues
- Stephanie (8/5): - Le style anglais et le petit déjeuner
- suni (9/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): Perfect - Everything Nothing
- Ian (10/5): Enjoyable stay - Near the station, clean, quiet, friendly staff, good food. All you could want from an English pub.
- Kim (9/5): - Very friendly staff, easy to communicate beforehand, easy check-in, our room was clean and had all the facilities listed. Nice quiet hotel, very handy location for the city centre.
- IGMarsh (6/5): -
- mark (8/5): -
- David (9/5): -
- Shirley (10/5): Excellent - Clean. Friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble
- Caroline (5/5): -
- Jane Wain (8/5): -
- Lorraine (7/5): Great location but rooms dated - Good location and plenty parking Rooms dated
- Susan (8/5): -
- Jo (10/5): Fantastic - Staff were lovely. Location perfect for the town, station and walking in the beautiful woods. Nothing to say here.
- Claire (10/5): -
- Verena (9/5): -
- Victoria (7/5): Clean and comfortable but staff shortage meant poor breakfast, complaining staff. - Clean comfortable rooms though noisy (could hear the other occupants esp doors banging). There was a staff shortage in the kitchen and server at breakfast was very audible about her unhappiness about being the strain she was under. Breakfast wasn’t great and clearly it was because cook hadn’t turned up. Makes me think twice about returning. Otherwise, reasonable stay.
- Elizabeth (3/5): Not worth the price - Location was good being near the station The room had a strong mildew smell that was noticeable throughout our entire stay, which made it quite unpleasant.
Breakfast was disappointing — it wasn’t included in the price, and the extra charge didn’t feel justified given the quality and size.
- John Ronan (9/5): - Bathroom
- Corrinna (7/5): Altogether though, we’d stay again next time we visit. - Location, restaurant, pub, parking, staff The room smelled musty and we couldn’t open the windows to air out.
- neil (7/5): Great location - Great location and parking. Decent food and a nice shower Room was very small and the breakfast rather basic eg not much fruit.
- Elisabeth (9/5): Lovely, would come again! - The staff were at all times friendly and helpful. Access was easy, including parking.
- Cara (9/5): -
- 08e8b42bd59f707de63c3bbda5f14ff4 (6/5): Underwhelming - Location
Quiet Small annex style room

- a55abbfe6e7b71ace9d3bfdf12a378d2 (7/5): - Nice friendly staff Couldn't open bedroom window don't think room was worth price no hair dryer

- 9f62dafa10457089ed764ad6f8d2d318 (9/5): Family trip - Clean friendly staff good breakfast
- ad566fcac17b71a8c9f95b3963bd6319 (9/5): Krásné místo v super lokalitě za fajn cenu - Krásné prostředí, milý personál. Přistýlka, ale to je problém většiny ubytování.

- 0bd6ce814ff271600a506e2bed8e1805 (9/5): Durham visit - A very comfortable stay. Some noise from neighbouring rooms.
- 40000007354b701d3e5f976a15bb6f73 (6/5): Staff were friendly and helpful and a good place to meet up with our family. - The Kingslodge was a nice place, handy for the town centre. Parking is a bonus. But food was only satisfactory. Had a meal on the evening which we were all looking forward to, but tough, fatty meat, cold mashed potatoes, breakfast wasn't much better.
- 81fa9828fcbc7018b8d0648386c57189 (9/5): Great location, warm and friendly staff, a fine room. - Loved the location, a quick walk into town and close to scenic walks and nature. The room was lovely and the cleanliness was excellent. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay and we're looking forward to coming back. No glaring faults at all.
- 1335a07796787075ec2d607913321dde (7/5): -
- adrian84481 (7/5): Clean, but breakfast was lacking and the whole setting is a bit dated. - Room was clean. The whole establishment is a bit dated, with a specific odor. Breakfast was a bit lacking in options and quantity compared to other stays from he same Inn Collection Group.
- Keith (10/5): - Clean fresh friendly
- Eldred (9/5): Comfortable and congenial accommodation close to the station and city centre. - We had a very pleasant stay over 3 nights - the staff could not have been more helpful, breakfasts and evening meals were excellent and the location suited us very well as we were arriving by train and the Inn is also near the city centre and the bus station.
- Gabor (10/5): Angol kényelem - csodálatos hely, Kedves előzékeny személyzet.
- jimena (10/5): Very nice place , restaurants & bar. Great location & decoration -
- Mark (8/5): Inn stay in good location in beautiful city. - Location Single bed
- Stephen (9/5): Exactly what we needed for a short stay - Location to town centre, parking available. Food in restaurant.
- Rachel (9/5): -
- Deanna (10/5): Fabulous - Homely and comfortable and very clean
- Trish (6/5): I felt ignored some of the time as there were a couple of large groups on site. - It was well sited so I could get out & about. The room was clean. I didn’t feel welcomed at all. I was a little early and was told: you can’t have the key to your room (I think it was about 2pm). I said: that’s fine I’ll sit here in the bar until it’s ready. Oh, the lady replied; it’s ready. I just can give you the key till 3pm. (Also: there was a strange noise from the toilet bowl (room 5) when I flushed).
- Hughes (4/5): -
- David (10/5): Excellent - Absolutely stunning place.
- Lynn (7/5): - Good location
- treena (6/5): Very nice apart from food poor standard although staff are helpful - Nice location up market brewers fair type pub with rooms Food was pretty sub standard had to complain about standard served couple of nights
Room clean apart from sash window when opened full of cobwebs and dust hadn’t been cleaned in years. Strange smell of sewers in room but not of putting.
Could do with light on wall adjacent to wardrobe as when doors are open unable to see insider too dark.
- Robert (9/5): -
- Steve (9/5): Fantastic Property & Location…. Will certainly stay again when next in the area - Almost everything Nothing really
- alan (1/5): Place looks tired, left without staying night - Location They booked a single room for 2 adults when clearly a double was booked thru booking .com
- Ron (7/5): Loved it, apart from the one noisy night - Breakfast, Location and facilities Creeky floorboards above our room and thin walls, some other guest was so noisy late at night I nearly complained the next day. And if you’re wondering, I never complain, me and my wife are the most tolerant people you’d ever likley meet. But we won’t be walked over or ripped off obviously, so you can understand how bad that noise was.
- Stacey (10/5): - Second times we have stayed here and it’s a lovely little place, immaculately clean, food is lovely not too expensive. Staff can’t do enough for you so friendly n helpful Can’t fault anything at all
- Elizabeth (7/5): - Friendly staff, great location, free parking Poor shower-very little power
- Janet (8/5): Enjoyed our stay on the whole but wouldn’t re-book. - The location Thin walls between bedrooms. The pull light switch in the bathroom, you could hear it clearly being turned on and off and people using the toilet. Also the breakfasts were small and basic.
- Marion (7/5): Value for money - Bar area. Good food. Smell in shower due to lack of ventilation.
Shower not hot.
- Matthew (9/5): It is a pleasant and conveniently-located inn with suitable facilities for a short stay. - The place is well-located, being near the railway station, and a nature reserve, which is good for an early morning walk. It has only two floors, so no long walk up five flights of stairs. Facilities were clean and comfortable, and somehow looked bigger after I had been in the room a while than when I first entered! A little more variety in the veggie breakfast would have been nice. Perhaps a second egg and some mushrooms, rather than three tomatoes. Not a fault specific to the inn, but it would be nice to go to places where I could drop off my luggage sooner and leave it until later - when you don't have a car, it can be a drag holding onto the luggage until 3, and then having to take it on the morning of the last day - it effectively reduces a two-night stay to one day of seeing the sights.
- Neal (8/5): - Super friendly staff, really good food and perfect ly location for discovering Durham. All good
- Julia (9/5): Extremely comfortable stay with exceptional food - Very friendly staff. The bedroom was clean and the bed very comfortable. Thank you Carolyn. The food in the pub below was exceptional. The pub was very quiet in the evenings so slept very well. Good location. Nothing
- Melanie (8/5): -
- M Perks (10/5): Great value, Staff, and clean! Worth a visit! - As always, Hotel clean, friendly, rooms are big, with all the facilities and a big comfy bed. Stayed here before and it didn't disappoint. Highly recommend for value for money. Breakfast - I am Gluten Free (Through medical reasons) and although they tried to accommodate me, the breakfast was just very bland. Instead of a normal Full English, they basically did me bacon, egg and a tomato....
No mushrooms or Hashbrowns which are usually GF.
was just a bit bland and boring. It could have been easily fixed to make a better suitable brekkie.....
having said that, they did try so I still scored them overall 10/10 as it wouldn't be fair to mark them down.
Maybe just a FYI for future - better options for dietary requirements would really set them above others.
- Peter (6/5): - Location fairly good and parking included Room had an odour which seemed to be drains
- bernard (4/5): - Very dated, and very noisy you could here everything
Going on above us
- Stephen (9/5): I would stay here again - Great location good parking
