Guest Reviews
- Dan (10/5): The place is awesome. So well maintained. We’ve stayed there several times and have never been disappointed. - Beautifully manicured and so beautiful. Nothing
- Beverly Knapp (10/5): -
- pam (8/5): - Loved the layout of hotel and decor The bed was as hard as a brick and we left a day early due to bach ache and cold weather
- Stephany (10/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): - Beds comfy, excellent breakfast buffet! Large clean rooms with a charming ambiance! Appears an air freshening aroma comes through vents, a bit overpowering. Otherwise, all great!
- Mary (10/5): We will return! - Everything was great! We loved our rooms and that they were adjoining with family. We played dominoes in the lobby and had some delicious free cookies. We took advantage of the hot tub and walked the ground. We walked through the hotel to look at all of the antiques and shopped on campus. Of course, the absolute best part is the food for the continental breakfast and the roast beef and pie at the restaurant.
- Gregory (10/5): - Stayed here multiple times. Updated pool area The room next door started talking very loud at 6 am. Hard to sleep. Coming thru the suite door.
- Richard (10/5): Enjoy the setting and close to what we like. - Next to a great restaurant. Nothing to not like.
- Tammy (10/5): As Always…AMAZING!🤩♥️ - It’s so lush and beautiful and peaceful. It’s not closer to where I live. LOL
- Robert (7/5): -
- Vicky (10/5): Great two day get away - It was beautiful. Lots of places to walk around and the shops and restaurant was great Only one thing. The room we stayed in had something really gross on bottom of tub. Looked like maybe nonslip stickers or coating if some kind that was coming off. It was sticky and gross. We showered so it wasn’t too bad but I couldn’t imagine bathing in it or putting my kids in it
- Soumala (9/5): -
- RAUL (10/5): - Very nice,clean and convenient. Nothing
- Stacey (10/5): - The calm mature atmosphere, scenic grounds, complimentary cookies, and quaint decor make this hotel experience unique and appealing. The TV doesn't have a "Guide" feature.
It would be helpful to have more outlets by the bedside table.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Clean and comfortable Not much to do in evening
- Crystal (10/5): -
- David (10/5): Great - Good GGreatood
- Patrick (9/5): Enjoyable. Comfortable. Relaxing. - Very nice place to stay. Quiet, comfortable, and relaxing. Rooms were clean. Staff was attentive. Breakfast was good with a wide variety. Can’t think of anything. Very pleased with the stay.
- April Dobbertin (10/5): -
- Hans (10/5): Excellent - Cleanliness, friendly staff
- Eyal (10/5): Unique stay. Excellent for families and groups. - Clean and top maintained with spacious public spaces to relax and congregate
- Pam (10/5): Best place to stay around Shipshewana! - Everything, we love Essenhaus. It is our favorite place to stay! Nothing

- Guest (10/5): -
- Robin (10/5): -
- Abdelhamid (7/5): Unique and beautiful place - The decor and the atmosphere are really unique. The rooms was clean, but the carpets needed some extra cleaning. Room carpets, breakfast didn’t have scrambled eggs or potatoes.
- Amy (8/5): -
- jenifer (9/5): A really lovely place to stay and we would definitely return. - Cozy rooms, charming atmosphere and extremely comfortable. Loved the traditional decor, the antiques, the quilts and such displayed around the hotel. Everything was immaculate and beautifully cared for. Some might say it was a bit 'dated' but that was part of its charm--Traditional in the best sense of the word. The large, thoughtfully arranged sitting area outside our room, with the woodburning stove, the coffee station and a comfortable and quiet place to 'hang' were fantastic--a real unexpected bonus--Like having our own living room. Also the grounds are beautiful, with small ponds, walking trails, etc. We took a morning walk around and that was definitely a highlight. If you're interested in quilts, there's a large shop with stunning, locally made quilts right next door. (Be careful! $$) The breakfast was disappointing. While it was 'free' we didn't eat much as there was very limited selection and it was not very good. Our room rate was very affordable, however, so we were OK with it. I think because it was such a nice hotel and very traditional (and in Amish country) we expected something much better. We did not try their 'proper' restaurant (out near the road) but that would probably be a much better place to eat breakfast than the hotel.
- Amy (5/5): Nice pool and hot tub. - Nice big pool and hot tub Breakfast lady was very rude to us. Glared at us the whole time. I believe she didn’t like kids. Have never been treated so rudely
- Lolita (10/5): Nice place. Convenient location. - Nice area
- Christine (10/5): -
- Dave (8/5): -
- Edward (10/5): -
- Brodie (9/5): - Breakfast was one of the best ever. The whole place is adorable, very quiet and everything is just lovely. Nice and roomy too. Shower was old and not great and the fitness center was way too hot, but even those were acceptable.
- Rebecca (10/5): Best trip ever - The staff is amazing and makes you feel like family ☺️ That I couldn't stay longer!
- Darryn (8/5): -
- Donald (10/5): -
- Rhonda (9/5): Enjoyed my stay, will come back and stay again sometime! - Very clean, breakfast was great, staff was very friendly!
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): Everything was perfect. Absolutely no complaints - Clean, quiet and very nice.
- Barbara (10/5): Everything was perfect except the noise from the air conditioner. - The hotel was extremely charming. There were many shops, a bakery and a restaurant on the campus. Everyone was extremely friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The fan on the air conditioner was VERY VERY LOUD. It woke us up every time it kicked on, and every time it kicked off. It sounded like a jet engine in the room. We did not sleep well, even though the beds were very comfortable.
- Brett (10/5): -
- Bill (10/5): Short, but comfortable and relaxing!! -
- Dean (10/5): -
- Randy (9/5): A relaxing get away - Good breakfast would have liked to have scrambled eggs Not sure

- Heather (9/5): -
- Marcia (10/5): Love Essenhaus - We love the entire place! There is nothing to dislike.
- Scott (9/5): Fun time but could have been better and less expensive - breakfast was great! Hotel atmmosphere is family friendly and very CHristian vibe. we love staying here The hot tub was not hot the entire time. It was the same temp as the pool which was very disappointing. Also the pool chemicals hurt my kids' eyes which wasn't pleasant. Also the mattresses are very old and uncomfortable. Overdue for more modern matresses.
- Khabibullin (10/5): Супер класс восторг - Все, потрясающее место мы здесь не в первый раз и приедем еще
- Dressel (3/5): -
- Amy (10/5): -
- Carla (10/5): Wonderful place - Our whole experience was very good! The hot tub was up and running and that was one of the reasons we stayed... Very beautiful rooms and decor.
Breakfast was delicious and we will be staying again soon 💜
- Hamilton (10/5): -
- Edward (10/5): I will gladly stay there again. - Even with it being winter time, it was a very beautiful place to visit and stay. There was absolutely nothing to dislike. The staff was friendly. The food was good. The room was excellent.
- Judith (10/5): Wonderful experience - It’s been years since we were here and it did not disappoint. Clean, warm, homey and the staff was excellent. I would recommend this hotel. Nothing could be better that we experienced. It was all very good. Don’t hesitate to stay here.
- Zimmerman (9/5): Great place to stay - Nice and clean No smart TV

- Peggy (10/5): -
- Jon (10/5): We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. - Cleanliness, decor, breakfast, hot tub. Hot tub and pool hours…it closed at 10pm, we didn’t get back from our events until just after that time, so unfortunately we couldn’t use them.
- Bridgette (10/5): Great place to stay! - Beautiful and comfortable! Breakfast great! Pillows are pretty hard
- Mike (10/5): - Very good
- Dan (10/5): -
- Narayanan (8/5): -
- Al (9/5): Always enjoy our stay at the Essenhaus as well as the restaurant. - Excellent, breads and pastries were great and sausage was also very good. Sinks\ vanities were too low. Decorating may need an update in the future.
- James (8/5): Short but accommodations were good - No eggs at breakfast
- Marvin (10/5): -
- Lynne (8/5): Very nice facility. I felt very safe and happy there - Beautiful and very easy to get around. Cute little shops to visit. Nice bakery and restaurant so you don’t need to leave for anything once you arrive The towels are pretty bad. They could really use an upgrade in that area.
This might not be an issue for most. But I’m 5’2” and the height of those beds made it uncomfortable for me to get in and out
- Aaron (4/5): It was okay. - The grounds were beautiful. My family’s reservations got completely screwed up and when we went to the restaurant for our reservation, they said they didn’t have one but my dad made one since there were 20 of us…. They ended up getting us in but we waited for 45 minutes when we should have been seated right away since my dad had made the reservation far in advance.
- Nancy (9/5): -
- Theresa (10/5): - The room we stayed in the Atrium had a weird smell. You noticed it when you first enter.
- Donald (10/5): Perfect place to stay - The breakfast area is very nice. Dedicated to breakfast area with several table and chairs (not in the lobby like most hotels). The food was excellent and the staff very attentive Everything was fine
- Phillip (10/5): Will definitely be back again! - Very nice- wonderful facility and breakfast food- much nicer than you get at many hotels that is free with the stay. Room was large and spotless with very well-made furniture. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Enjoyed a separate part of the room with it's own sink and mirror so that we could get ready in different areas. Staff couldn't have been nicer. The cookies in the lobby were a very nice touch! Flatscreen TV was on the small size but did it's job! Could have used coasters to place our cups on as we didn't want to leave water rings on the nice wood of the tables and nightstand. We ended up using tissues to protect the wood. Would have liked to have had coffee/juices/ice water available any time of day in the lobby area, but found that these things were only available at breakfast.
- Ivan (10/5): -
- McCabe (10/5): Wonderful - Don't change a thing
- John (10/5): -
- Lawrence (9/5): Very pleasant and relaxing - Much better than expected. Just keep doing what you are doing. Das Duthcman was not as good as the Der Dutchman in Sarasota, Fl.
- Julie (9/5): Nice weekend get away. - Super clean!! Dated but comfortable. Room had a desk and love seat, somewhere other than the bed to sit. The shower pressure was wonderful! The bed was very firm.
- Kent (10/5): Highly recommended property! - It’s so neat and clean and friendly No complaints
- Kim (10/5): -
- Richard (8/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): -
- Diane (10/5): Very nice, quiet and friendly people. - It was very good. The beds were a bit too high and the bathtub was high. Would have been better to be a shower only. But it was a nice room.
- Josue (10/5): Great - Beautiful hotel and great price. Breakfast was delicious
- Hess (10/5): -
- John (10/5): -
- Marvin (10/5): -
- Michelle (6/5): Nice place but atrium side needs some updates. Carpet was dirty and bathrooms are quite outdated. - Dinner at the restaurant was fantastic Breakfast was very busy ran out of food and garbage cans were overflowing.
- Kristine (10/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): Christmas Eve Getaway - Beautiful Inn, great service, comfortable beds, and a great area!
- Vanessa (10/5): If your looking to relax this is the place for you - Me and my husband liked everything about our stay. This wasn't our first stay that's for sure. Keep up the fantastic work Couldn't have been any better
