- John (9/5): Fantastic will be back next year. - Great property!
location was fantastic. View overlooking the ski slopes.
staff extremely happy to help with any request.
Breakfast was a traditional Japanese with some western options. Food rotated so variety was nice.
Drying room with heaps of space.
- Nopparat (10/5): Excellent - I loved everything: the food, the place, the cleanliness, and the location was excellent. It's only a 3-minute walk to the gondola, and the owner was very nice.

- Thongpia (7/5): - We like Outdoor onsen and view from restaurant Room too small if compare with the price
- Jonathan (9/5): - I had a great stay here. Location is great, less than 5 minutes from the Iwatake slopes. They have a ski-in/ski-out facility - a rear door leads to a snow-covered path that leads to the slopes. Tatami beds. Great onsen within the hotel, with indoor and a lovely outdoor bath. Staff are warm and helpful. Would stay again. There was one night out of my 5 nights here, where there was a short period of noise coming from the ski slopes in the early morning - I think they were grooming the Iwatake slopes / runs. I'm a light sleeper, though, and this only happened once.
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Angela (8/5): - Great location, excellent food and helpful staff Futons a bit hard to sleep on

- Jan (8/5): Great place to stay for our 5 nights in Hakuba. Definitely need a car to acess other ski fields, restaurants and shoppin - Clean and comfortable room. Great view and location for Iwatake ski field. Friendly staff. Expensive in comparison to all other accommodation in Japan during our 3 week holiday and had to pay extra for breakfast.
- Alasdair (9/5): Brilliant, and a great location. I look forward to coming back, staff are amazing. - Lovely neighborhood, quiet and convenient.
- ISARES (9/5): - Near the ski lift in a short walking distance.
Buffet breakfast was great.
Sento is big with sauna.
Has delivery service. We got room on first floor under wooden slope walkway between old and new building which is noisy when someone walk especially children who always run on slope. Quite disturbing.
- Siddhartha (8/5): Enjoyable with helpful staff. - Food , both the cooking, the chef and the location of the dining room with its view . It’s not so much about this property , I found sleeping and using a Japanese style room challenging
- Liang Hong (9/5): Fantastic location but go with a car - Location and friendly staff Wifi connectivity is poor..should improve on this and guest experience will be even better.
Seems to have too much chlorine doses in the onsen?
- W (10/5): -
- Cook (10/5): Staff very friendly, half board was very good. Location to ski fields were very easy to access. The onsens completed our - Location and staff were great
- Nataly (10/5): A real Japanese experience - I loved the room style—it truly reflected Japanese culture. The location is excellent, right next to Iwatake Snow Resort, and it has a convenient drying area where you can leave your equipment after a day on the snow.
The onsen and sauna included in the facilities were amazing, especially after a long day of snowboarding. The buffet breakfast with mountain views was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to start the day.
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. ❄️🏔️✨

- molly (7/5): Cozy place in the winter. - we enjoyed the ski in, ski out advantage of the accommodation and the big room space. Unfortunately became unwell mid trip, we believed it was from the air con due to some grime we found. when we addressed Schole about our concern they were very accommodating and apologetic, and assured us the dirt in the air con should'nt be the cause of sickness as it was not used in the winter.
- Daniel (6/5): -
- N Alex de Matos (9/5): -
- Qing (9/5): Good stay. Recommended. - Spacious room. Convenient location. We brought our snowboarding bags containing the boards and equipments, but were told that they are not allowed in the building, which we thought is uncommon since this is a skiing village. But we kept them in our car instead.
Only till our last few days did we know that there’s a ski room available besides the public bath. It would be nice if the staff can let us know at the beginning of our stay and save us a lot of troubles.
- Tomoko (10/5): -
- tacko (7/5): - satisfied not single toilet
- Shih Chang (9/5): - 環境清幽 員工很親切
- Aleksandra (8/5): Charming budget hotel. - Perfectly located next to the gondola and shuttle to other peaks. Onsite onsen was wonderful at the end of the day and really appreciated the ski equipment room to dry stuff out at the end of the day and do laundry. Good ski rental around the corner. Good breakfast and really lovely staff. Highly recommend a room with private bath+toilet. Family of four easily fit into a large tatami room. Rooms could use a fresh lick of paint, but excellent on a budget.
- Emily (8/5): - The staff are nice, and it's very close to Iwatake Snow Resort. The rooms are cozy and the onsen experience was nice. There were some stains on the bedsheets in the closet.
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Alex (10/5): Amazing. Will come back in next snow season - Super kind stuff. Great location. Nothing
- HO YANG (10/5): -
- xavier jiaqi (10/5): Great location and comfortable - Great onsen, very comfortable futon, location is right beside Iwatake resort and close to the Hakuba Valley Bus shuttle. Will definitely return. Very good breakfast Nil

- Altangadas (8/5): -
- CHIA WEI (6/5): 房東女兒的臉非常臭,感覺很像她才是客人,問問題都非常沒有耐心不會來住第二次,太沒有禮貌了 -
- Ursula (10/5): -
- Yi (9/5): I will recommend if you have rental car - great breakfast selection,
there is a large drying room
the onsen is a bonus the wall is abit thin, but I guess it is normal there
- Dave (10/5): Awesome great location. - The location is fantastic very pretty in winter of course. Very close to ski hire and close to the gondola to mountain top.y son was able to ski back to the hotel almost to the dry room. Town is quiet compared to Happo so it's not a party town but there are shuttles. Also be aware pre season there are not many restaurants. But there is an excellent bar with food. Short walk up the road called KUIKUI. We loved it. Hotel breakfast was generous and varied Mixed feelings about the Japanese room we rented. But that was our choice and we are in our late 50s. Sleeping on the floor was fine but not sure it's for everyone. Just be aware. That said we adapted rolled bedding up to make lounges so it's fine.
- Melissa (9/5): - Stayed for about a week, great facilities and clean. It has everything that you need to stay comfortably. Service was kind a mix as the older lady was extremely friendly always with a smile but the young ones are more like :/meh.
- Dawid (9/5): Amazing location, lovely food and a wonderful stay - Very close to Rental company for Skiing, and the iwatake bus stop. N/A
- Alex (10/5): -
- Siega (10/5): i’ll recommend this hotel - so nice people and they have nice onsen.
i really like it
- Tetsuya (9/5): -
- Mimiaga (9/5): Superb -
- Abe (4/5): - 食事があまりにもお粗末でした。
- Spike (8/5): Very good -
- Peggy (10/5): We would stay at Schole Hakuba again! - Location was fantastic, it was possible to ski to and from the gondola. Also it was convenient make quick trips to the ski resort area for snacks etc.
The onsens were great to relax and warm up after a chilly day's skiing. I felt the beds were too firm.
- Mark (10/5): Welcoming , friendly, and great value for money. - Friendly helpful staff, and great food. Wonderful position.
- O7ggo7 (9/5): Superb - The food was delicious and the onsens (both indoor and outdoor) were amazing! Very close to the gondola (about 4-5 mins walk). You can technically pop your ski on as soon as you step out but it is very flat.
They have a large drying room too! They didn't specified that yukatas would cost extra when we ask for it and only told us about the extra cost at check out. It wasn't much, but it would have been nice to know at the time. (And this wasn't because of language barrier as we spoke native Japanese).
- Jasmine (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would recommend - Really nice people run this place. Convenient to iwatake ski area. Breakfast is delicious and changes every day.
- C (8/5): - Nice traditional guest house in quiet neighborhood and close to Iwatake ski area. Tough to get rides or taxis anywhere though.
- Sienna (7/5): Not what I booked but good location - The location was great. The staff was nice. Good value. The room, although big, was not what I booked. I booked a Western room with twin beds and was given a Japanese style room with floor futons. I was disappointed when they told me they had no Western rooms left. Beware, you are sleeping on the floor with a thin matt as the bed and bean filled pillows in the Japanese style rooms. I asked for feather pillows, which helped a bit but were still hard, and my back was sore after 3 days of sleeping on the ground. There is a tea kettle in the room but no tea also no hair dryer. The bathroom in the room was also not very clean. Public restrooms throughout Japan appeared cleaner. However, the size of the shower was nice. The food was not good, and we opted for eating out instead of the full board meals I paid for as they were inedible to me, 2 of out 10 at best. If you don't care about good meals, then this may be ok for you. Overall, the value of the accommodation was unbeatable for the location.
- Serena (9/5): Charming and delightful family run hotel - Quiet and charming facilities right next to Iwatake Snow Field gondola. Delicious breakfast buffet. Kind and helpful staff; even with limited English, they were always very accommodating of our requests. Nice onsen facilities including an outdoor heated pool. Japanese style family room was very spacious with beautiful views of the mountain. Would stay here again! Location is good if you want to ski at Iwatake, but there are not many restaurants nearby. You will need to pre-plan your dinner, and to pre-book taxis if you want to go into town for more options.
- Melina (8/5): Very good -
- James (9/5): Comfortable budget accommodation with great staff. - Comfortable budget accommodation. Very helpful, attentive and friendly staff. The meals provided were a more traditional style and this was great to experience. The meals were very tasty with a good variety. Also had an onsite onsen. Walking distance to Iwatake Ski fields and shuttle busses to other resorts. Ski up drying room. I have a fish allergy which the staff and chef were very helpful and attentive in helping me manage. I also injured myself on the ski fields and the staff went out of their way to assist me.
- Hannah (9/5): Superb -
- Lachlan (9/5): Superb -
- Pinky (10/5): - Good
- Andrew (8/5): A great experience of a Japanese hotel. - Excellent location for the Iwatake ski lifts. Super freindly staff.
The onsen was a good size and never too busy. The room was a little small. However, no smaller than many other Japanese hotels and we could still be comfortable. It was still worth the experience.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional - The large traditional style room was fantastic and all the staff went out of their way to help us. They even made sure we got to our bus on time when there were no taxis available. I highly recommend staying at Schole Hakuba.
- Erik (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were really helpful in moving our booking a few days, and then adding one more day. Nice onsen area with pool both inside and outside, along with a sauna. Exciting japanese food for dinner. Really hard bed mats in the traditional rooms. The rooms face out towards the ski slope, so when the snow-cat starts grooming the slopes it's hard to sleep with the beeping and engine noise.
- Hua (10/5): Exceptional -
- BOON CHYE (6/5): - The surrounding is secluded without much to do after skiing. Amenities include ski storage room, washer/dryer and onsen. Go for half board if you have no transport to go around.
- Melissa (10/5): - I am already planning to come back to this property for LNY 2026!! It was everything I could have wanted for a quiet and relaxing yet exciting first ski trip to Japan!
The place has this 1980s charm while having modern heating and toilets. Slope side to iwatake! Buses take you to all the other mountains.
The onsen was heaven after a gnarly day on the slopes. The outdoor hot tub was incredible with the fresh snowfall. Breakfast was filling and typical Asian style (as a western living in Asia 12 years it doesn’t bother me) yet had some western items for those that can’t try something new.
My only complaint is that it wasn’t near a lot of restaurants or downtown and if it was heavy snowfall you weren’t going anywhere at night. Also the pillows were very tradition Japanese and extra firm. I’m a softie girl myself but honestly I managed!
Can’t wait to return!
- Choy (10/5): Exceptional - walkable distance to ski resort, nice meal included with cozy room. perfect size for 5 adults. could be a bit hectic during snowy days as there are no undercover or designated space to unload your luggage
- Alfred (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (10/5): - The staff provide excellent service to the guests. The dinner is very good, as specially the beef Shabu-shabu.
- Seng (10/5): - Amazing staff, amazing breakfast, amazing service! Stay here, you will not regret it.
- Edmund (8/5): Very good - Great breakfast, traditional Japanese style
- Sharon (6/5): Pleasant - The breakfast and dinner were good, and the onsen was great. The shower in the room did not have good pressure and was small but that was fine as we just showered at the onsen.
It was relatively easy to get a taxi into town.
It is best if you have a car if you stay here or you can get stuck as taxis are sometimes scarce back to Schole, unless you prebook
We stayed in the room for 6 with just 3 of us, which was very comfortable.
The reception staff were nice and accommodating. They didn't speak much English, but the translation device worked fine. It was hard to get to other mountains, especially to Happo one for evergreen lessons. We had to go there because we had a snowboarder.
- David (9/5): Superb - Close to the new Gondola. Limited food options outside of Schole without booking difficult to get group taxis or taking the bus which shuts down before 6pm. This is a problem for the whole Iwatake resort. No common room with fireplace and somewhere to have a drink.
- Penny (10/5): highly recommended! - good location and friendly staff! too good 😊
- Dorilita (8/5): - Bueno si se considera como albergue para esquiadores. Tiene restaurante pero es muy restringido el horario y los alimentos. Muy cercano a la estación de esquí lo que resulta muy conveniente
- Eunice (10/5): Allow you to relax after skiing - Very traditional Japanese style hostel. Can see Iwatake ski resort from our room. And the resort is just 2 mins walking distance from the hostel. The onsen and sauna are great. Location is convenient which is very near to other ski resorts. Parking is available with EV charging.
- Kidd (9/5): A comfortable and affordable hotel with great staff and a convenient location. - The staff were really friendly and helpful. Great location you can ski to the iwatake gondola station. The hotel onsen is small but very nice.
- Kirah (10/5): Memorable - Very friendly and nice staff. Delicious yakitori don. Super relaxing onsen. The location is close to Iwatake Mountain Ski Resort. Not many eateries or shops in the vicinity of the hotel
- Ruben (10/5): Exceptional - We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at Schole Hakuba. The room exceeded our expectations with cleanliness and more space than usual for a private inn. The onsen is spacious, clean, and well-kept. The ski room is easily accessible and well heated.
We opted for the half-board plan which included a great breakfast buffet and a traditional Japanese dinner. Be sure to consult with the front desk ahead of time if you have dietary restrictions.
Most of all, the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Despite our limited understanding of Japanese, they went out of their way to make us comfortable. On our last day, our car got stuck on ice in the parking lot and they helped us get it out. I hope to return some day to repay them for their kindness!
- ?? (8/5): - 食事と風呂が良かった
- Paulus (10/5): Perfect for the snow! - We had a massive room with direct view of the ski mountain. Perfect location which is only a few minutes walk from the main ski lift in Hakuba.
There was good breakfast there for an extra cost. If I had to be picky, it would have been nice to have lunch/ dinner available as well since there are not many choices available nearby.
- Becky (8/5): - Our room facing the Iwatake ski resort veautiful view beatiful view. Food was nice
- Timothy (10/5): - The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Hot meal every morning and just a few minute walk from the ski lift and bus stop to access all of Haluba
- Marie (10/5): - It was really great that we were the only Caucasian visitors staying at the time, it was a Japanese family run lodge so felt authentic Japanese including sauna, indoor and outdoor onsen and the delicious in house dinner option each night was incredible.
- Jida (9/5): Superb -
- Kam Ming Clement (10/5): - 服務接待很好,設施環境整潔,自駕遊的話會是不錯選擇;相對附近沒食肆,出入只能召的士,這點比較不適合我們
- Ginalyn (6/5): With Family - It was good to stay but we pay extra for kids. We thought that 5people can sleep in a room so from the start we didn’t include the kids.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - 2 min walk to the lift. Traditional Japanese food very good mmmm. Extremely friendly staff. Do not speak English just a heads up. Quieter area. Def recommend Will be back one day
- DAISUKE (10/5): - 最高でした!
- Marie (10/5): - The meals were great! Onsen was clean and not too busy. Very nice place to stay.
