Guest Reviews
- Stuart (10/5): A real home away from home. - What a fantastic stay at Leithen Lodge in Innerleithen. The location was absolutely perfect for a cycling adventure weekend, with incredible riding right on the doorstep and stunning scenery all around.
The accommodation itself was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed after long days out exploring. It felt like a real home away from home. The peaceful surroundings and relaxed atmosphere made it the perfect place to unwind in the evenings.
The hosts were brilliant throughout, welcoming, friendly and helpful, which really added to the overall experience.
I stayed here while attending the Muck n Mac festival and honestly couldn’t have picked a better base. Whether you’re visiting for cycling, hiking or simply to enjoy the Scottish Borders, I’d highly recommend Leithen Lodge.
Would absolutely stay again! N/A.
- Lee (9/5): Definitely looking to stay again - Hosts were great and location excellent
- Samuel (10/5): Stunning and tranquil setting, comfortable and characterful apartment, and friendly and accommodating hosts. - Beautiful setting and friendly host. No shower, bath only.
- Ian (10/5): A fantastic gem, perfect for getting away from modern life - It was an amazing location and very comfortable apartment for a family of 4. The hosts
were excellent and very welcoming, we had a fantastic stay, thanks.
- Maxim (10/5): -
- James (10/5): Close enough to everyone but far away enough to get peace and quiet! - To sum it up there was nothing that we didn't like. The property was incredible and it is set in some amazing grounds. If you want peace and quiet with little connection to the outside world it is perfect. The phone signal is non existent which is great but if you do want that connection the Wi-Fi makes up for this with good speeds.
The hosts were accommodating and friendly and took the time to see why you were in the area so that they could recommend activities and food etc.
It is far away enough from innerleithen for the quiet but close enough to go in to town for tea or to pick food up. It's a 10 minute drive from the town.
We used the accommodation as a base for mountain biking. It is a 10 minute pedal to the base of the golfie tracks and a 25-30 minute pedal to the top of the mast at Glentress on an easy fire road climb so you couldn't be in a better position.
There is secure bike storage which is great and also access to a hose to wash the bikes off.
The facilities in the house were great, it is an old property and we were glad that the host didn't try to make this modern because it added to the overall experience. its got great kitchen facilities, a shower, and a comfortable bed. What more do you need!
We had the three bedroom property which had a good communal sitting area with a tv.
Honestly this is a great place to stay and we will definitely visit again.
- Martin (8/5): Historic appartments on beautiful location - On a remote and quite but beautiful location. Great gardens, historic building and warm host! Appartment was spacious with big rooms and beds were fine as well. Kitchen equipment could be upgraded, as well as broken lights there. Cleaning could be better (e.g. fridge was not cleaned after last visitors). The showers only runs with very low amount of water. Some noise from the neighbours.
- Leslie (10/5): A perfect place to stay, with really friendly and helpful hosts. - The location; great for mountain biking, friendly hosts, peace and quiet.
- younghee (10/5): - 깨끗하고 조용한 곳
- Susan (9/5): Superb - What an astounding location! The building was beautiful and quirky, and in amazing grounds with woods, a lake and views which were just idyllic. Set in peaceful surroundings, we were treated to seeing the local wildlife going about their day and enjoyed walking through the extensive gardens. Nothing to not like!
- Alison (8/5): I felt very welcome and enjoyed most of my stay - Stunning location, warm welcoming host and lovely bed Not much soundproofing between ground floor and upstairs.
- Brian (9/5): Property lovely just as expected. - The location was lovely and area about house.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Loved the location and the stylishness of the accommodation. - Location was amazing, and we really appreciated the access to the gardens. The quality of the refurb of the fabulous historic building was impressive.
Very comfortable sitting room and bedrooms.
Fab birdsong! Couldn’t see out from bedroom and hardly at all from sitting room, as windows were so high.
Fridge is tiny. Stairs tricky for one of our group - hand rail or rope on upper section make them easier and safer.
The hot water pressure very low in bathroom but that’s a quirk of such an old building.
Some good outdoor seating and eating area would be really great in such a stunning setting.
- Leslie (10/5): Perfect stay for us. Simple and relaxing. Loved the easy access to Glentress from the accommodation. Peaceful evening - The location and very helpful and friendly owners. Everything we needed for a self catering stay was there. Nothing. Just as we like it, thank you.
- Jenna (9/5): Beautiful place with kind owners - The owners are so so kind and welcoming. They were incredibly helpful when our van broke down! the surroundings really are incredibly beautiful and we rode our bikes from the door to the bike trails at glentress and golfie. Would definitely stay again Only thing was not having a shower (bath only) in our apartment which can be a bit frustrating but everything else was great
- Victoria (5/5): The apartment needs more heating, with that, it would have been perfect. - The apartment was conveniently located for us with parking. Ample room for 4 of us. We arrived a little earlier than expected and couldn't initially find anyone to get the key. Would have been helpful to have a key security box. The apartment was very cold and wouldn't warm up with the limited heaters in there. We were too cold to sit in the living room, as the heater only made a noise and looked like it was on but no heat coming from it. The bathroom was also very cold.
- Faye (9/5): Superb -
- Conor (9/5): Beautiful country retreat, perfect in Autumn, good location to Edinburgh and Peebles - Extremely hospitable hosts. Incredible grounds.
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (10/5): Beautiful house with lovely grounds in a beautiful location, with fantastic hosts - thank you! - Beautiful house with lovely grounds in beautiful location. Fantastic hosts who were flexible and accommodating, both allowing us to store bicycles in their secure locked outbuildings, and being very accommodating of a delayed departure when one of our group suffered a cycling accident - thank you!
- David (10/5): Fabulous stay at gorgeous stately home - Gorgeous stately home exuding charm. Ted, the very friendly owner, met us on arrival and showed us round. Our apartment was super comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen, spacious living room with lots of cosy seating (tv & dvd player) and three bedrooms with very comfy beds. The house itself is spectacular, set in beautiful grounds with enormous trees and chickens roaming around. Innerleithen is a five minute drive away with retail (great second-hand bookstore) and excellent coffee shops. Really recommend taking a guided tour at the National Trust's Robert Smail's Printing Works. Peebles is a further 10mins drive away with even more on offer (recommend The John Buchan Story). Beautiful grounds at Kailzie Gardens with a really impressive café/restaurant. Will be back!
- Mohamed (7/5): Environmentally quite & green scene. - 1. In middle of country side: nature.
2. Quite place: no traffic or noise.
3. Clean air and water.
4. Nice landlord.
5. Cable for EVs..!!
6. Could open windows without mosquitoes..!
7. Nearby village for grocery & pharmacy (7km). 1. No laundry machine & have to pay alot for my laundry.
2. Water pressure was moderate not strong.
3.
- Kenneth (9/5): Home from home - A very comfortable stay in an idyllic location. Location and friendliness of staff.
- Van (10/5): A remarkable place with a very kind host! - We visited Leithen Lodge this summer and what a remarkable place! The house was just so spacious, that all our chirdren had the luxury of their own bed and our eldest thought she was a little princess with her own tiny room. The location is beautiful and more than relaxing. The weather was just fine, so we did 3 days around Edinburgh. We went to the city, to a little shop called Build-a-bear en of course we visited the Edinburgh Zoo with a remarkeble view on the Scottish nature.
We felt ourselves really at home, cause of the friendly owner of this place. It was a real treat that we spend a few days in Leithen Lodge. A big thank you to you, Sir!
- George (8/5): It was a dream come true - It was self-catering.
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): Highly recommended if you don’t mind a bit of a trip to Edinburgh. - The site is amazing. It’s a bit remote, but that’s part of the charm. The building is amazing. The accommodations were roomy, the grounds a delight. There is no cell phone coverage, but the wi-fi is very good.
- Elisabeth (7/5): Tranquil lodgings in the grounds of a lovely estate house. - Lovely estate house and surrounding grounds. Super friendly host. Water pressure wasn’t great. Also no tablets were provided for the dishwasher and no kitchen towel. For a shorter stay, it seems reasonable and more common to provide these items. We couldn’t figure out how to use the TV to access local channels. Instructions would have been appreciated.
- James (10/5): Fabulous! -
- Ajamesanderson (10/5): It was way up the glen. Peace and birdsong. All the facilites you would need. - Location, people. Just a beautiful place with really nice owners. The Wifi signal was excellent.
- Douglas (10/5): The perfect base to attend to family business in Edinburgh then relax afterwards - Leithen Lodge is that dream Scottish manor we all hope to encounter and Ted is a wonderful and most interesting host
The setting is fabulous and feels like Hitchcock’s 39 steps Nothing
You shouldn’t invite negative
- Nicholas (9/5): Very pleasant stay and location -
- Kynoch (9/5): 9 out of 10 - The location is accessible to the nearby town of Innerleithen. Yet set amongst the back drop of the Scottish mountains and forest. There are walks within the grounds that are just beautiful. The majestic fir trees around the grounds make it quite magical. Host were helpful throughout the stay and little touches in the property made it special. This lodge and surroundings are truly unique and make it an ideal family get away. Nothing
- Richard (9/5): This is such a beautiful location for a stay and you couldn't wish for a better host. - The location here is absolutely beautiful and having got home today, my wife already wants to go back! The apartment is full of charachter and we really enjoyed our stay. The stay was made even better by the friendliness of our host Ted, who couldn't do enough to help.
The Wifi here is second to none! Using Speedtest.net I had a download speed of 489mbps and an upload speed of 110mbps.
As a location to Glentress for cycling, it is ideal as you have a choice of a 4 mile hill climb route in to the top of Glentress, or a 9.5 mile flat route to the base of Glentress. Not to mention 7 stanes at Innerleithen, which is only 5 flat miles door to door. Although I got the keys quite quickly, it is guesswork knowing where to go when you arrive for the first time. Just park in the small gravel car park to the right of the property, go through the stone archway in to the courtyard and knock on the door directily opposite the archway you have walked through.
Although my active 75 year old Mum had no issues using the staircase, there is no doubt the treads are shorter than average and the carpet is loose in places near the corner. Although this needs fixing as soon as possible, I really wouldn't hesitate for one moment to stay here again, and at this value, I would stay in the 3 bed apartment again, even if it was just my wife and I. Thank you Ted.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (7/5): Good - Good size split apartment very cozy No phone signal but good WiFi
- Judit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karolina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hideto (8/5): Overwhelming landscape, Very calm place, Very warm hosts. - It looks like a forgotten mansion from the busy world. Built old, but well maintained. Lovely hens are walking around and full of calmness. Water pressure is a bit weak to enjoy taking a shower.
- Clara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guirong (6/5): not very convenient for travelers with kids - room was big enough location was very distant to everything
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lorna (9/5): Wonderful! - The hosts were very friendly and helpful. It was great to have a full kitchen to cook our own meals. We were very comfortable to just hang out , take walks around the lovely property or take short drives onto town for coffee or treats. Thank you!!
- Raymond (8/5): Very good -
- Debra (10/5): Exceptional - Location fantastic. Relaxing and remote. Nothing.
- Malcolm (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (10/5): Brilliant stay, beautiful place, friendly hosts - Beautiful building and surroundings. Good wifi although the website says it doesn't have wifi Nothing
- Van (10/5): excellent, Amazing. - beautiful location. very friendly owners. really gorgeous estate. nicely remote area. beautiful for walks. there is good wifi, but you mobile phone does not have any access to networks.
- Frances (7/5): An exceptionally beautiful location - N/a Could have done with 2 small easy chairs to watch tv. Had to sit on the bed which was too far away
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Nice and quiet and nice and clean and comfortable and Ted was a good host The only downside was no shower so had to wash my hair with a ceramic jug
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional - We liked every single part of our stay. The location is remote, calm, quiet and close to nature. There are all utilities in place, now also incl internet access. I recommend to do some shopping before arrival because one you settle there less chance you get back to city soon.
