Guest Reviews
- michaelaY8155WZ (10/5): Airport oasis - Nice little private oasis right next to the airport, great spot to decompress on your last night in Costa Rica would highly recommend and will use this location again
- hmartires (4/5): Very expensive for the poor quality offered - Close to the airport and convenient for a quick transfer.
Old rooms with out of date furniture and lack of comfort. It's probably the only hotel in Costa Rica without a coffee machine in the room! Bad sound isolation, so you can hear the main road and the airplanes just next door. It's hard to sleep.
They don't respect the check-in time. I arrived in the afternoon long after check-in time and still have to wait for some time for the room to be ready.
The free transfer service to the airport must be at certain times, otherwise you have to pay for the service! It's doesn't make any sense!
As an airport hotel, they should have a breakfast service for early check-outs. They service only starts at 7 am and if you leave earlier they don't provide any option (like a package meal).
For the price they charge, better look for other accommodation options.
- AWilliams1978 (6/5): Very noisy but comfortable and friendly - We only stayed one night here after a long flight to San Jose. Close to the airport appealed when I booked it, but oh my goodness the noise from the flights departing!!! Room was comfortable though, had a nice little restaurant and bar. Super friendly staff.
- S5451WDstephaniel (6/5): Very small two bed rooms. - Mango Hotel is almost impossible to get to from it's street entrance. You have to drive into super busy congested in on coming traffic into a very short driveway next to a bus stop. Your best bet to avoid an accident is to go up the street where there is room to turn an go back down the same side of the street that the hotel is on.
The two bed room that we stayed in for one night was very small, no closet, ironing board and iron. The cable TV was only spanish speaking channels. The Breakfast was very good but you must be there on your appointed time. There us only parking directly next to the check in entrance because supposedly the garage is under construction.
- Rocio (10/5): - breakfast was good , staff friendly
- Oscar (10/5): - Cuarto limpio y buen aire acondicionado, el desayuno está muy pobre y no es delicioso. Está bien pero nada especial.
- Gary (10/5): So helpful - This hotel was such a pleasant surprise in the heart of San Jose, and so close to the airport. They even helped us have our rental car picked up at the hotel ( which we didn’t know we could do) and gave us a ride to the airport! This made the last leg of our adventure super easy and much less stressful!
- Ed (6/5): - Just a place to sleep the night before your flight.
- John (10/5): - It's quiet., great staff
A little difficult to get to from the main road
- Christopher (10/5): Great hotel near airport. - Very convenient to airport with free hourly shuttle. It is an 8 minute drive to the airport. Outdoor pool is appealing and also good breakfast. Recomended.
- Andrea (10/5): We love Hotel Mango - Love the hospitality (gracias Rafaela), the comfort of the room and the bathroom! Best desayuno tipico around (gracias Chef y Carlos)!
- Rich (10/5): - It was so close to the airport it convenient!
- Zhen (10/5): - My son and I used this hotel for an overnight stay arriving at San Jose before an early morning start traveling to Montezuma, they were helpful and friendly so we also used this hotel on the return journey. The only slight downslide is breakfast doesn’t start util 7 so we missed it as we had early starts both legs of the journey, however they do provide coffee and biscuits at the reception but the option of an early packed breakfast as some hotels do would have been nice. The use of the pool was a very nice extra, especially with my 2.5 year old, and also the airport shuttle made things a little easier, I would be happy to use this hotel again.
- James (8/5): - It was close to SJO Sirport, good service & staff & very good breakfast.
- Robert (10/5): - Great spot! Close to the airport with a great little restaurant, comfortable and clean room and nice pool!
- Cirilda (10/5): - It was very clean and staff very friendly. The breakfast was excellent.
- John (10/5): - Nice place but very noisy
- Elena (10/5): Lovely stay, attentive staff - Great 1-night stay before heading to Arenal. Close to airport (5 min drive). Check in was smooth, room was comfortable. Service was amazing - Raffaella who checked me in was gentle and kind and Carlos who prepared my breakfast was very attentive. It was a good stay to recover from a long flight before my onward journey. Only regret isn’t being able to enjoy the pool as it was raining!
- Tracy (10/5): - Nice and cozy
- Meredith (4/5): - At first the hotel and grounds looked very nice. Yes, you hear the airplanes, but it is right next to the airport- that is why we stayed here for a night. However, during the night I got up to use the bathroom-there were flying ants everywhere! Crawling up the walls, shower curtain, toilet, sink, floors- We got dressed and left to the airport immediately!
- Noemi (10/5): - Las facilidades impecables y el servicio excelente.
- sarah ann (10/5): - We really enjoy staying at Mango. The facilities are very nice and very clean. The made to order breakfast is great. My griend left her Insulin at the Hotel and they sent it by driver to the Airport for my friend to get it before boarding her flight.
I would prefer that they use less fragrance in the laundry.
We look forward to returning soon.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - This has to be the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Everyone was kind and helpful. I highly recommend it!
- Michelle (8/5): - Everything was clean, staff were great and food was really good too!
- Charles (10/5): - Very safe great staff convenient from airport and breakfast was amazing
- Allan (10/5): - Muy mala atencion
Especialmente en El pequeño restaurant no son nada amigables
- Karen (8/5): - The staff and facilities were great. Ironically the reason why we stayed one night, (it was close to the airport) was also the reason we gave it 3 stars, the hotel is in direct path of the takeoffs of the planes, super noisy.
- Rome (10/5): - Best place close to the airport.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Great boutique hotel by the airport. Beautiful space. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Nice breakfast. Great staff. Lovely pool. So convenient for in and out of SJO.
Only downside is that at the airport the taxis don’t want to take you there bc it’s so close. It should cost $4 US according to the hotel and I have gotten it for less when I came in at midnight and the taxi driver was on his way home for the night. This time the minimum was $10 US and one guy wanted to charge me $30 US!
Also airport and traffic noise are to be expected where it is. Will stay there every time I’m on the area.
- Judith (6/5): - My room was on the street side. Horribly noisy! Single pane windows. No cup, even plastic,
- Hillary (10/5): - Pretty and relaxing outdoor areas for sitting or doing yoga near the pool. Close to the airport and good breakfast, comfortable bed. I would suggest earplugs. There is a lot of noise from the busy road out front and planes taking off over the hotel.
- Sarah (10/5): - Cute and great spot near the airport!
- MICHAEL (10/5): - Best breakfast and the Staff is muy excelente!! Carlos puts effort into making dining a pleasant experience!!
- Gary (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable beds, secure grounds …and great breakfast! Excellent hotel near tha airport.
- richard (10/5): - ......
- Angela (10/5): - The property is beautiful. Squeaky ceiling fan in my room
- Stephen (10/5): - Very convenient to SJO
- Samuel (10/5): - Shoutout Carlos the waiter, extremely nice!
- David (10/5): Convenient - Very convenient for the price for an I've right stay for the airport:
- paul (8/5): - .
- John (6/5): - The location is very convenient to the airport, which is why we stayed here. The overall footprint is small, but they’ve made good use of the space with a small pool, lounging area and restaurant. Our room was small but clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the room faced the pool area where the lights stayed on until late in the night and the window did not have blackout curtains. But the thing that made this stay unenjoyable was the noise from outside the hotel property. There must be a club nearby that played loud music until 2am. The walls are thin so we heard every beat. And when you have to get up at 4am to make your flight, it’s a less than ideal experience.
- Clifford (8/5): - Nice place to stay
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Excellent restaurant. Very clean. Beautiful pool and cabanas.
- Bethany (2/5): - My biggest issue: rooms only have a push button door lock. No chain. A man tried coming into our room at 4am. My mom and I were already awake and I had put my suitcase on the floor by the door because I knew it wasn’t secure. Turns out it was the staff member and they had apologized, but VERY SCARY AND SKETCHY. Why was the male staff trying to come into the room when I was sleeping without knocking???
No water or ice available at all when restaurant is closed (only certain hours). Busy road and airplanes incredibly loud. Firm beds. Very limited parking. Small fancy breakfast.
*how is this place listed as a customer favorite??*
- Joseph (10/5): - Not a corporate feel. It’s setup perfect. Cute cafe with pool and a comfortable seating area out of the sun. Breakfast was included. The waiter was adorable, professional and so accommodating. It’s near the airport so expect the roar of planes overhead. Bed was perfect for me. Firm and comfy.
- Leslee (10/5): - Always a pleasure and will be back soon.
- MacKenzie (8/5): - Cute oasis near the airport. Lovely staff
- Joseph (8/5): - Its best feature is that it is in a convenient location right near the San Jose airport – in fact, it is almost directly under the glidepath of the main runway (so close the jets taking off and landing above roared too loud to hear the TV). I was awakened a few times during the night. It was a stone’s throw away from the off-airport car rental locations for several rental companies, which made returning my rented car very easy, then I took their free shuttle to the terminal. Staff was bi-lingual, friendly, and helpful. The desk clerk helped me translate the Spanish-language emails from the airline and helped me download my boarding pass. I didn’t stay there long enough to use the facilities, but they offered a nice free breakfast. Free parking onsite but it’s hard to cut across a busy highway during rush hour to get to the iron gate to enter the property.
- JoeFRocklin (8/5): Close to the airport - Its best feature is that it is in a convenient location right near the San Jose airport – in fact, it is almost directly under the glidepath of the main runway (so close the jets taking off and landing above roared too loud to hear the TV). Personally, I didn’t mind the noise other than being awakened a few times during the night. It was a stone’s throw away from the off-airport car rental locations for several rental companies, which made returning my rented car very easy, then I took their free shuttle to the terminal. Easy peasy. Staff was bi-lingual, friendly, and helpful. The desk clerk helped me translate the Spanish-language emails from the airline and helped me download my boarding pass. - Jorge (10/5): - I recommend 100%
- Julia (10/5): - Friendly, dependable service.
- Celestine (10/5): - Restaurant was very pleasant
- Hector (8/5): - Nice Hotel .
- Jasmine (4/5): - Food at restaurant was great. However got bit by a ton of bed bugs that night
- Leslie (6/5): Don’t expect a shuttle from airport - This is a nice, clean little hotel. I arrived between 8:30 and 9:00 pm. The little restaurant/bar closed at 9:00 and the staff could not give me a cup of ice after 9:00.
This hotel should be about 75./night instead of 100+ that I paid. I picked it because they advertise “airport shuttle.” After I paid, I got an email saying they don’t shuttle from the airport to the hotel…not cool.
- Bibi (10/5): - Hotel Mango – Convenient & Relaxing Stay Near SJO Airport
I stayed at Hotel Mango before an early flight out of SJO, and it was the perfect choice. The location is incredibly convenient for the airport, which made my travel stress-free. The ambiance around the pool and the restaurant was lovely—relaxed, inviting, and a nice little oasis before heading out. I truly enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for comfort and convenience near the airport.
- timothy (8/5): Surprisingly Nice - From the outside, this place looks like it might be a crap hole, kind of hard to get into the driveway, small, kind of retrofitted to be a hotel at some point in its life...but on the inside it was a pleasant surprise.
This place is a two minute drive to the airport so their niche is people coming in and spending a night before going to the airport the next day, and they have really made the most of that niche.
Although the mattresses were a bit thinner than I would expect from a top of the line four or five star hotel, the beds were comfortable, so the thickness is moot. There were none of the tellltale signs of small, independently owned hotels with a cracked tile here, a leaky fauce there. Everything was maintained well. And despite the low pricepoint, the rooms were actually attractive, and the hotel itself was well decorated and tasteful. It may be catering to a certain clientele, but it didn't want to be the cliche hotel that is functional and lacking in aesthetics.
The restauarant is nice, and the food is good. It is Italian, so I had a calzone, which was really nice. The hotel gave me free transport to the airport the next morning at 4am, and the driver was on time. Everything went without a hitch.
If you are on a budget, this is a great choice. Also, if you want a place to sleep before flying out the next day, this is for you.
- Janelle (10/5): - Great find very close to the airport.
- Juan (10/5): - Great staff, clean but traffic around the area, being right next to the airport is terrible. I guess it comes with the territory. So if you are getting shuttled to and from the airport this hotel is great. But if you are driving, be sure to be comfortable with Costa Rican driving.
- kaitlyn (10/5): - Lovely. Staff was super helpful and kind. LOVED the breakfast before we left.
- Myron (10/5): - Easy parking. Staff was helpful on check in. Offered to make coffee and have it ready for us in the morning by 6 am.
- Nomi (6/5): Nice place, loud location - Great hotel, amazing breakfast and very close to airport. Beautiful pool. Cons: very very loud especially if your room is facing the road. Planes flying low overhead. Impossible to sleep.
- Maria (10/5): - We needed a simple hotel to spend the night at before an early morning flight out of SJO. Hotel Mango served it's purpose and I would stay there again if I needed the same thing. The property was lovely and the staff very helpful. I wish the room would have had a few more things like a coffee maker or kettle, but again it was worth the price. Walked to Denny's for dinner and had fun at the Casino for a few hours also withing walking distance. Hotel is on a main road, so it was a noisy, but again the price fit the need.
- Tracy (10/5): - The staff was incredible and helped me with a better transportation without being asked. Really good complimenyary breakfast.
- joan (6/5): - This small hotel and the staff were lovely. The pool area and little cabana rooms were so nice. These were in the back of the hotel.
Our room was atreet side. The street noise in our room was unbearable though. Yes, it's by the airport, so we heard planes but also trucks, motorcycles and cars from the very, very busy street just outside the room was very loud. We couldn't sleep at all. Too bad. Not sure how rooms are on the non-street side but definitely request one.
- Michele (10/5): - my daughter and I only stayed one night arrived late and left early in the morning so not sure of any of the facilities, but it was a nice place to stay
- Gerard (8/5): - The hotel and experience were all real good.
- Katherine (10/5): Great stopover - Our family of seven spent a night at the lovely Hotel Mango at the beginning of our trip to Costa Rica as we all arrived at different times. It was ideal for us, the kids loved the pool, we had a great meal in the restaurant and the staff were lovely and very accommodating.
- Dominique (8/5): - Tout près de l’aéroport, c’était parfait comme point de départ et pour sortir de San José. les installations sont très jolies.
- Angel M (10/5): Mision trip - This hotel is in a great location. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Great place to stay before your trip from the airport.
- George (10/5): - Good food great service, close to airport
- Clint (10/5): - It was a good clean room. Had everything that was needed. Restaurant on site had great food for very reasonable prices.
- Andrea (10/5): - We were only there for the night but the breakfast was good and the pool looked nice. Great place to stay, under 5 min from airport and transport to our next city picked us up from the hotel.
- Heather (10/5): - Very nice!
- Ramone (10/5): - The breakfast, staff, property. Will be staying again.
- Jill (10/5): - Hotel Mango is our favorite near airport. Very nice people
- Evan (10/5): - Very nice hotel next to the airport. Made everything very easy!
- Bartley (8/5): - Close to airport and walking distance to restaurant's the complimentary breakfast was good freindly staff the bad thing is close to airport trafic and planes are very loud
- Todd (10/5): - Clean. Friendly. Close to airport. Great service.
- Caitlin (10/5): - We love staying here as it is easy and dependable for a local airport hotel.
- Janet (10/5): - Very nice place to stay, close to airport. In walking distance to Denny's for Caribe Shuttle. Excellent breakfast with very pleasant server.
- BERNADETTE (8/5): Great stay!! - Arrived late and it’s difficult to see the entrance. Initially was concerned but great stay - spotlessly clean , fabulous breakfast in beautiful area. Great value!!!
- Ethan (6/5): - The hotel looks nice and the pool was nice and the staff was OK, but my windows would not latch and the door just didn’t seem secure. However, it was conveniently located close to the airport. I might actually stay there again, but I would look around first for another option.
- Kandy (10/5): - My family uses Mango at least twice a year for the last 5 years. It's alway very clean.and easy from the airport. The taxi service is always friendly, too.
- Gregory R. (10/5): - Wonderful staff! Great breakfast, property between train station and airport
- Rick (8/5): - Great little hotel if you’re only staying 1 night. Rooms are small, but it’s clean and convenient to the airport. Great outdoor space and good restaurant.
- Cheryl (10/5): - I love the Mango! We stay here whenever we fly from SJO. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean, comfortable and secure. The location is super convenient.
- Matthew (6/5): - A/C did not work
- Sandy (10/5): - Just stayed overnight. Close to airport. Staff was great and I enjoyed talking to Carlos. Breakfast was very good.
- Patricia (6/5): - My room had a musty smell.
- Karen Lynn (10/5): - Love this hotel, staff kind snd close to airport!
- Carlos (10/5): - friendly staff, nice rooms
- Faye (8/5): - Good free shuttle to hotel every hour. Nice pool too. Choice of breakfast menu. Yes you can hear the planes but didnt bother me. Bed was comfy. Annoying no key to open gaye and have yo wait from someone from reception seeing you - ok but not when raining and waiting.
- Theodore (2/5): - They way overcharge. Our room was on the highway with trucks waking us up at 5am
- Santiago (10/5): - Ghe olace is spotless, newly refurbished and staff was amazing and very helpful
- Christopher (6/5): - Cute. Needs repairs. Door handle loose. Ants in bathroom. Close to airport.
- Elizabeth (4/5): - I did not enjoy my stay. Our room and the hotel was right next to a busy hwy. Hwy traffic all night long. It was near the airport—so some plane traffic which I would expect. Leaky bathroom sink got the floor wet. No cushion covers on the furniture in reception. We went for a walk and discovered the Hampton back off the road. Changed our next reservation to there.
- Megan (8/5): - Enjoyed having pizza in the rain. They let me store some of my own food in the restaurant fridge as an added bonus, and gave me a free ride to the airport the next morning at 4 am. Nice people, close to the airport.
- Libby (10/5): - This was a great place to stay especially if needing to get to the airport the next day! Hotel staff was friendly and the amenities/ pool were great.
- Regina (6/5): Where’s the ocean? - It was advertised With ocean view, however we could not see the ocean!
