Guest Reviews
- Johannes (10/5): - Fijne rustige ligging. Mooi zwembad met restaurant/bar. Super fijne pickup service!
- sarabN565WX (10/5): Great experience - Our stay was great. We enjoyed every bit of it. The staff is really kind and nice. Breakfast was good and freshly prepared. We really enjoyed trips they offer at the reception for good price. The pool was also clean.
We would really recommend it!☺️☺️
- RonC1860 (2/5): I've never before written a bad review, but this place proved to be 'exceptional'. - On entry, it looks idyllic ... don't trust the pictures you see on-line. If you value your life and wellbeing, (and that's not hyperbole), those 'bungalows' are two stories and the stairs between floors are, frankly, dangerous. Upstairs, a bedroom only (I discount the 'balcony' because it is not fit for purpose unless you want to stand on it to look down on the pool). Downstairs a room with a couch and TV (mine didn't work, I only tried turning on to see if it did work, I don't go on holiday to watch TV). The little bar fridge worked fine and I've no complaints about the air con. The bathroom/toilet was also downstairs. Unfortunately, mine smelled a little 'swampy'. Mainly because the shower leaked just enough to ensure the floor was never fully dry, which given the toilet bowl was almost sitting under the shower-head meant that using said toilet in the prescribed manner could lead to wet undergarments unless you were prepared to adapt. And of course the drain didn't ... drain. Smelly. So the rooms were not the best (though I can't actually say I've stayed in worse). Cleanliness, not high on the cleaning staff's agenda. Perfunctory at best.
However, aside from the narrow, mountainous staircase, I could have foregone writing this review had it not been for the night staff. The young lass during the day was lovely and helpful (as long as you asked). At change of shift however, Nepotism was on full display because surely no business owner would employ such a lazy, do-nothing youth that wasn't related to them. Closely! And as a hotel guest i.e. a paying customer, you certainly don't want to be sharing the only (meagre) outdoor area with his mates, lounging around and sleeping on the only bench seating available. Personally, I don't expect the night staff to be lounging around with their mates in empty rooms watching TV till the early hours of the morning.
And while I can't prove it (I wish I could), I'm 99.9% confident, the same employee used my bathroom when we went to dinner - on 2 occasions. He was confronted after the 2nd occasion and it didn't recur. I started taking pics of the empty bowl before we left for dinner after that. Seriously!
Would you like a bottle of water (complimentary in every Balinese hotel/villa/resort I have ever stayed in)? not from this dude, he expected you to pay. Ask the young lass in the morning for better, quicker results.
Breakfast ... take it leave it, I left it. I tried each of three options once and decided after that to walk across the road and get a 'breakfast'. Some will probably find it adequate, few would rate it anything above 'good'.
I know businesses open and close all the time, but since last year, two 'night clubs' have opened up, side-by-side, directly across the road. They start up around 10pm, but really ramp up by 12. From then till 2.30-3.30am if you love the sound of competing bass and drums thumping into your consciousness in preference to sleep, this is the place for you.
When we're on holiday, we basically sleep in the rooms - they don't have to be five star. The place looks great on the website, but it's deceiving. If you're a young backpacker type that wants a 2 night stop-over, you'll probably survive and think I'm talking rubbish (unless you wander over to one of the night clubs, come back drunk and then have to navigate those stairs a couple of times during the night!!). If you're looking for a 'comfortable' place to spend 7/10/14 days or more, take my advice and quickly look elsewhere. This was the first time I haven't heeded my own advice and checked the reviews before booking. If I had, I wouldn't have booked. - I'm not the only one that's had a similar experience.
- SuziP138 (6/5): Good value for money - The rooms are nice! They have what is needed in them. You have a little seating area outside the room too. The pool is big and clean! The staff are lovely- really want to help you have a great time. Can book lots through them. The food is okay- the breakfast quite minimal and not quite what is outlined on the menu. It could do with some improvement. Some main meals are good, such as chicken burger and nasi goreng. They could add cushions with the sun loungers as pretty uncomfortable without them. But overall , great value for money!
- Ingeborg (10/5): Great place in beautiful surroundings - Great place! Super friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Good pool and lots of super cute and friendly dogs. Good food as well. Rented us a scooter and was very helpful with everything! Would definitely come back here
- Justin (10/5): - A lovely place to stay with out three children. Staff were very helpful and kind, and the rooms are great. Large, clean pool. Not close to any shops but that means my wife saved money. A few warungs around, but the in-house restaurant is pretty good. Crystal Bay Beach is very close and a great place to spend the day.
- Philip (10/5): - Honestly this was one of my favorite spots on my trip. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms were nice, and breakfast was amazing
- sririyatis (10/5): Lovely cottages - When I saw the option of Bintang Bungalow and was given the price, I thought it was just a modest place to spend the night after exploring Penida. How surprised I was to see that the place is actually super nice with clear pool, outdoor bathroom, comfy beds and breakfast! Will definitely come back to Bintang Bungalow if I am at Nusa Penida !
- brett6696 (10/5): Great Spot - Stayed here over the new years period, the price is excellent for the location and rooms provided. Helpful staff, just make sure you bring extra cash as the ATM's on the island are temperamental and can be working some days and not working at all other days. Good tours offered by the staff too! Recommended.
- YesIlikefoodalot (6/5): Has potential to be great - Overall, it's a good place. Staff are nice, however are relatively hopeless at basic things which led to some frustration at times. As mind advice to said staff, I'd say to simply work on courtesy - for example we were made to feel like we'd done something wrong when they didn't have our reservation on record, despite it being confirmed on Agoda.
Food is average at best. The included breakfast is very lacking and gives you 3 options that are basically the same and aren't to a high standard. There's a separate breakfast menu that's not included with far better options which left us feeling a bit cheated.
The main problem for us, (after travelling for a month round SE Asia) is the flies. We've never seen so many swarming round us in the restaurant that made us want to just eat as fast as possible and run. Something needs to be done about this, it was truly unpleasant.
The pool is great. Large and deep enough for lengths and quite tranquil. Surrounded by nature.
Location is great for things like Kelingking beach (40 mins by scooter), Angel's Billabong (50 mins). And roughly 30 mins from the port back to Sanur (the port to Bali).
All in all, not bad for what we paid, just could've been a lot better for the foundation they have.
- KrrishnaR3 (8/5): Zen - Place is always super calm, very very friendly staff, delicious food, nice pool area, they also provide scooter/car for rental, 15m walk to crystal bay.
Con: Wifi didn’t work at all inside the room I stayed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely secluded spot with nice pool & spacious family villa!! Will return again!
- sblaurieb (2/5): Please reconsider - Upon arrival, front desk area was very worn down, there was a new girl front desk staff wearing a t shirt uniform from another hotel and was helping out at bingtang that day I arrived so she was unfamiliar with the process of this hotel and the check in process seemed very confusing and disorganized.
My room was not as listed on booking.com. I paid more for a king suite with balcony. I later found out it was actually one big house with a divider in the middle creating two big rooms so I could hear every conversation and movement from the people in the other side. The booking.com listed a balcony and tv - which was not present. When I brought this to the attention of one of the staff he replied “ yeah a lot of customers complain that the description of the room doesn’t match”. Well thanks!
Worst part was the dirty mattress that WAS Not fully covered by a fitted sheet. They used a top sheet that was not large enough so the end of the mattress where my foot lay was exposed to stained mattress! I have pictures as evidence. It was disgusting. I spoke to TWO staff about this unhygienic mattress and they failed to do anything immediately until I sternly demanded getting a properly fitted sheet. This is basic stuff! I should not have had to argue for a clean mattress.
Breakfast was horrible, I wouldn’t recommend eating there. I am vegetarian so I knew my options would be limited. I got a mere white toast with jam. That’s it!
The complimentary pick up from the harbour took 1 hour to arrive after I reached the location. So I was there waiting tired and hungry. When the driver arrived he seem disheveled and unapologetic for the delay.
The pool lawn chair mattresses ARE very stained.
Honestly this place was gross, the list goes on and on, I’m not sure how this place has such high reviews on TripAdvisor.
I asked the front desk for refund of my money as what I paid for in upgrades IS NOT what I got- and for the overall poor conditions of the property and they told me to contact booking.com customer service lol.
PLEASE take my honest advice - choose wisely and consider another accommodation. Be careful of overly positive reviews of this hotel as they may be bought or fake.
- Yvonnick (10/5): Dépaysant ! - Très typique, dépaysant et accueil très sympathique. Bonne nourriture au restaurant et bon petit-déjeuner. On est réveillé par les chants des coqs tôt le matin mais on s'y habitue !
- MariaStadler2810 (10/5): Good place - Nice staff. Very helpfull. Big rooms. They also clean it for you if you tell them. Definitely worth it for the money!!! Nice place and good food!!!! We stayed there for 3 nights. Near the christal bay beach. They also puck you up from the harbour for free:)
- smilewjoyce (8/5): One night stay! - Watermelon juice for welcome drink!
Breakfast is ok with a few selections. Staff is friendly and nice. The room smells a little but there’s mosquitoes net.
The bathroom is open concept, be patience with the hot water.
There’s free shuttle to Crystal Bay!
- davecchio (8/5): Very comfy place in the island, friendly staff - Love this place, the outdoor shower, the room, the staff, were all good. Hidden treasure in the island.. The food in the restaurant was so so, if you were not so picky then it should be fine. They also have another restauraunt nearby
- bigblub (6/5): Stay over night - Maybe just unlucky for us when we arrived got black light and cannot check in. In aour favourite room because electricity problem and we were move to another room and then not for long the whole area was completly dark. Because electricity problem.
But everything else was good services
The dinner was great too
- raihanb2016 (2/5): POOR BREAKFAST WORST - Value less for money , less thn their price u can stay any other hotel. Worst poor breakfast ever ! Rooms clean but values less for breakfast coz there is no restaurant nearby. I will stay another place next time. They will give u only 2 slice of bread with boil egg. 1 glass of powder orange juice which was yukky. No buffet ! Dont stay !!
- annalisacorrigan (8/5): Warm welcome, nice accommodation and great pool. - When our taxi pulled up we were given the warmest of welcomes by the staff. We were encouraged to sit down and enjoy a lovely cold watermelon juice whilst our luggage was unloaded. We were told a little bit about the island and its attractions and also given a recommendation to head down to Crystal Bay for the sunset, which was fantastic!
I’ve read through some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor, which mainly seem to be related to staff. I can only assume that there are new staff in place here now as they were all attentive, friendly, polite and extremely helpful. In fact it was some of the best costumer service I’ve encountered for a long while.
The bungalows were lovely with a good amount of privacy. The air con was decent, beds were comfy and there was mosquito netting in place which is very important on this island. The bathrooms were lovely as they had only a partial roof covering which was so nice in the mornings when taking a shower! It had a lovely natural feel.
We had a couple of short power cuts during our stay, but this would effect the whole island and was no fault of the resort. The staff were always quick to fix the problem by turning their generator on, so it wasn’t a problem.
The pool is large and very nice. Lots of comfy sun beds around the outside and a nice .
The restaurant offered a reasonable choice of food and a basic selection of drinks. The watermelon juice was our usual choice - extremely refreshing!
The staff we’re extremely quick when ordering taxis for us and arranging anything. They also offer everything at the best prices you will find on the island. Yes, we did check. It was nice to know that we could trust them not to charge us extra for Day trips, boat crossings, etc.
If you are wanting to spend a couple of days on Nusa Penida island, we would definitely recommend Bintang Bungalow as a good place to stay!
- Daniela (8/5): - Nice room and hotel as well as the pool.
Good food in the restaurant.
Quiet place.
- 742miikkat (2/5): I'd NEVER recommend this place to anyone who likes; good food, water from a shower or to keep the lights on. - Hello.
Me and my girlfriend arrived to Nusa Penida in 6.10.2018. Left 8.10.2018.
Took a taxi to our bungalows. First impression was good, but the customer service was lacking a little bit.
In our time there, which was scheduled to be 2 days, there wasn't working shower water, lights went off from time to time, because of the fuses and the most of all; worst breakfast I've had in whole time in Bali.
Only shining star that accommodation had was Soni -named guy.
He was splendid on customer service and we would have tipped him graciously, but sadly he wasn't on duty when we left..
He deserved those tips.
The decision is yours if you don't believe me. Nusa Penida is a very beautiful Island, but more we have enjoyed Nusa Lembogan.
Have nice trip!
- achenriot (8/5): Great stay in Nusa Penida - Had a good time in this hotel! Great location, close to the main see points of the island. The staff is very keen to help you booking activities or renting scooters and give advice on where to go and what to do..! The food from the hotel is local and very good. Don’t expect something fancy though..! The rooms are clean and Super cute :)
I really recommend this place if you stay in NP for a few days!
- johanbl71 (10/5): Little paradise - The stay at this place was great. Komang and Sony were awesome. Even when it was very busy for them, they always did their best to make this holiday great. It is a quiet place and near Chrystal Bay.
All staff are great, also the boys that help you to bring you anywhere on this island.
Thanks Bintang Bugalow staff for the wonderfull days!
- becky1007 (10/5): Amazing place, because of location be competant on Mopeds - The bungalows are fab, very spacious and the beds are comfy & the outdoor bathrooms are really cool!
Ths pool & outside area is nice, there was always new towels out on the sunbeds every morning! Also, theres chickens roaming about the place, and a cat and a dog. All were very friendly animals!!
Theres a little restuarant at the hotel which serves quite a range, however if your vegetariantl it is a bit limited, though the staff are great and very accomodating (we ordered a few chicken sandwiches without chicken)
Slight downside of this place is the location; its a bit out of the way (although it seems most of the places on Penida are), especially if your not comfortable/competant riding on Mopeds/motorbikes. The roads on Penida are a little bit horrendous. If you want to rent mopeds you can from the hotel for 70k for a day, other wise they're more than happy to take you to places although it will cost you alot more.
The staff really are exceptional! Because of bad weather we were stuck on island after failing to get tickets for the public back to Bali. They were kind enough to let us stay an extra night for half price, and helped us get tickets for the ferry the next day! And they took us down to the Ferry and back for free both days!
Amazing place with friendly staff so would recommend highly, but if you want to go to Nusa Penida, regardless of where you're staying, you should be comfortable getting around on your own!
- anialep (2/5): Never ever. Unprofessional staff - Food is cheap but not specially good. It was the worst breakfast I had in 30 days in Indonesia. The walls are tiny you can hear your neighbors. Receptionist very unprofessional. In the days we stayed there we noticed that waves are very big and I asked if all ferries are going. The lady confirmed with smiley. I asked her as well to call and confirm our ferry. Long story short: 2 days all ferries were cancelled and we missed our flight to Europe because of believing her and not checking ourselves!!!! But the worst was there were public boats going at 7 am every day. We just got to knew that when we went to the port and we understood that all other hotels and tourists were informed about this. Advice for you, next time put sign in the reception for your guests as info- doesn’t cost you anything!
