• James (8/5): Our stay was convenient, cosy and well appointed. - Very comfortable 2 bedroom apartment, nice and modern looks like it’s been newly renovated. Awesome location with great walk ability to the village and ski lift. When I queried regarding options for a transfer to the accommodation from the bus terminal, the hosts responded that most people just walk. It was quite a challenging walk with a young child and 80kg of bags, made worse as it was raining. I’d definitely recommend organising an Uber to transfer you or forward your bags early to avoid the hill!

• Clare (1/5): It seemed as though the owner wanted to maximise profit instead of providing for guests. - It was warm - that's about the most positive thing I could say about this place. It looked good on Bookings but reality said different. Where do I start! It was odd that we did not see our hosts once during the stay. Everywhere signs of what our duties were rather than a sense we were valued guests. The property is not well designed for skiers. Floors and stairs are slippery and dangerous for walking with skiboots and no handrails yet there is no alternative to access the drying room. The drying room has no provision for skis, inadequate space for drying clothes, gloves etc, insufficient seating for donning boots in the drying room. In the apartment - no seating outside to take off or don shoes, no provision of slippers yet rules about not wearing shoes inside. No armchairs/sofa, no sitting room, no TV, no view from any window (had to go outside to see what the weather was).
• Gaston (9/5): Yes, stop thinking, go ahead and make it your base! ;-) - Location, privacy, and Jason’s welcoming greeting, which is rare these days. The information provided about the village and local points of interest was excellent. The dry room and washing machine were very convenient. Safe and secure. We would definitely return. A few of the other guests were not particularly friendly. We had to wait quite a while on two occasions to use the washing machine because others were inconsiderate with their timing. Though, in fairness, there is not much the hosts can do about that.

The kitchen was clean and modern with everything you could need, even a rice cooker. The location is very close to the ski lifts 5-8min walk and the town in 5 mins walk down the hill.

• Darren (8/5): would definitely stay there again and recommend others to do the same - The Pillows and Doona were absolutely fanstastic, the best we have had in all our travels through japan. We did have a bit of difficulty locating the establishment, we had been to Nozawa Onsen before , so we knew roughly where to go, As we arrived in the dark it would have been a bit beneficial to have signage, Base camp is written on the building as you enter, it would have been a bit more helpful to have it on the side or back of the building as you approach, we entered one hotel and they were kind enough to say it was behind them. Other than that Basecamp has everything that you want or need and we were happy to stay there.

About 5min walk to everything, which is ideal. Modern fully-equipped apartment, we stayed as a family of 4 and were very comfortable. Communication with manager - Jason - was easy. Maybe one thing missing in the apartment is a heater in the bathroom, which was a bit cold. Nothing else to highlight

Jason was outstanding and responsive to all messages giving us tips and helping us organise taxis. Accommodation was super clean and beds very comfortable. Kitchwn well equipped. The whole town is on a hill so be aware there’s some walking up/down hills that can be a little slippery at times. The top bunks are a bit enclosed and haven’t got a lot of head room so would recommend for kids.

Everything for cooking but so many restaurants nearby to try. A short walk to the gondola... and a short cut path to the right of the entrance to avoid walking down the driveway and back up the hill. • Johnnyferang (1/5): I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! - I didn't like anything about this apartment. It fell short of my expectations in all areas. The place was a shambles, filthy dirty, in disrepair and not ready to be rented out. It looked like it had been sparsely furnished with castoff, donated furniture, worn out appliances and ancient kitchenware. I cannot believe I paid $380USD per night to stay in this uncomfortable and filthy dump. I've never been so dissapointed in an apartment rental as I have been with NOZAWA ONSEN BASECAMP. I want my money back! I thought I had booked a nice two room apartment with western beds and a bright, shiny, clean kitchen. But, no! This apartment had some wornout, uncomfortable tatami mats on the floor, old bedding (with blood stained pillows) and a absolutely disgusting and filthy kitchen that contained a number of safety hazards, due to the extermly dirty and greasy gas burners (with aluminum foil protecting the wall); and a number of high amperage kitchen appliances plugged in (via extension cord) to one electrical outlet. Also, there was a bug infestation in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom. Given the amount of leftover food, open bags of sugar, creamer and other sundry items in the kitchen, it's pretty obvious why there was a bug problem. Needless to say, none of us wanted to cook anything. Be sure and check out my enclosed photos for photo proof of the abysmal state of this totally overpriced disaster of an apartment rental!

• Nicholas (9/5): Beautiful modern self catering apartment, central to the town. - Spacious. Very well equipped kitchen. Washing machine and dryer readily available. Jason Holt was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about local matters. Access up a sleep icy small road was tricky. Taxi will not deliver you to the front door. A mud map written in Japanese would help find the place on arrival. My daughter also had an apartment with no storage for clothes in either bedroom. 8 minutes walk to the gondola. We stored our stuff at the rental shop as this walk would have been awful in ski boots.

• Paul (8/5): Great comfortable stay. - Even though the property was small it had all the necessary appointments to make it a very comfortable stay for our family of three. As one of my family is a Coeliac we needed cooking facilities to cook our own Gluten-free food and the apartment had a basic kitchen with good quality cooking utensils to enable us to easily cook some basic GF meals. The beds were super comfortable, perfect after a long day in the snow. Apartment 202 looks out onto another building so not a great view but only a minor issue when we were spending most of the time outside.

• Frederic (9/5): Excellent stay - the location was great. The size of the apartment was perfect for a family with two kids. Jason was very prompt to reply to all our requests and extremely accommodating. He also gave us a ride from and to the bus station.
