The location is quite good. We could see Kangaroos from our window and the Second Valley jetty is just a 4 minutes drive.

- Bernie (3/5): My stay was okay, but the comfort of the room and some maintenance issues left room for improvement. - I loved the idea of the noodles—it was a nice touch—and the room was very clean, which I really appreciated. The bed was unfortunately too soft for a comfortable sleep, and the pillows were very thin with only two offered on the bed. The bathroom gave the impression of being on a ferry—similar to the Spirit of Tasmania. Also, the garden area near the staircase to the rooms could benefit from a trim to improve the overall appearance.

Not having enough comfortable seating was disappointing. Also a side table helps in bedrooms. Good for people to put water glasses etc especially when your a senior person.

Matthew was there to greet us when we arrived and gave us such amazing recommendations of things to do in the area that we never would have discovered ourselves! We had the best stay ever in second valley. Liz also contacted us the next day saying we could stay a little longer as she wouldn’t be cleaning our room until the afternoon. This worked out perfectly as our Kangaroo island ferry got delayed. The staff were so kind and went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay possible. Nothing!

- Ross Yeatman (6/5): Interesting location for a nights stay, cosy, but let down by the uncomfy bed & accessibility. - Communication was excellent between the owner and ourselves, making the place very easy to find. Because we had a later ferry from Kangaroo Island our arrival at second valley was outside the hours they normally meet you on arrival, in the car park. We loved that the heating was on and place was cosy and warm and all set up for us. Unfortunately the bed in cottage #19 was very uncomfortable for my partner who has a back issue, she complained that the bed sank when she got in & felt like the mattress was old, so consequently didn't get a wonderful night's sleep. Also there seems no mobility provision at the cottages so we had to carry our suitcases up reasonably steep wooden steps from the car park to get to our room, something to be aware of if you have mobility issues. (Maybe the owner if meeting in the car park assists with this?)

- Kate (3/5): Unfortunately, I won't be back and don't recommend the lodge - Matt, the host at check-in, was brilliant, I so wanted to give this place a 10/10 but the facilities were woeful. You can drink the water but it's not recommended as it's hard water with a terrible taste. They tell you this at check-in and give you a bottle of filtered water but then you're on your own. It was 4 degrees overnight, the oil heater is not sufficient. The air-conditioner in the bedroom was sufficient but was so loud (I measured it at 65-70 decibels) and would go off at least once an hour to keep the room at 18 degrees so that I couldn't sleep. Turned it off, the neighbours didn't, I heard theirs going off instead. Between the bouts of air-conditioning noise, the couple next door had loud conversations long into the night. Once they stopped, I had to listen to their snoring through the thin walls. I paid $172 for one night and this is highway robbery for the facilities on offer. I believe the positive reviews are for either people who stayed when no air-conditioning was required or when there were no people next door or they were in the cottages not the lodge part.Whats worse is that I realised after that these things have been complained about in other reviews so they did know about them and haven't done anything about them. A $30 bar heater would make a huge difference. Owner says to book through them for best rates but their website says no cancellations within 7 days and I needed flexibility. The information in the room says you can cancel up to 24 hours before so who knows. There's a rule about being noisy but given there's nobody there to enforce it, it's a waste of time. They also insist on a specific check-in time which made life unnecessarily difficult and this is not stated prior to booking. The "garden view" is non-existant (see ohotos).

Fabulous hosts who told us the history of the cottage and s - Fabulous rustic cottage full of character with amazing wildlife all around. The beautiful sound of birds in the evening and morning. We didn’t get a chance to use the lovely courtyard. The whole experience was fantastic. Absolutely nothing

- Tanya (2/5): Very poor - Bed was comfortable Very noisy. I've stayed in numerous accommodations located on busier roads with much less noise. Creaky floorboards. Very loud, old 'window rattler' (air-conditioner). Was very happy there was also an oil heater to use instead. The door was also difficult to close without having to pull hard or slam. You also have to boil the kettle to wash the dishes 🤨 no reception, which was fine, and was told someone would meet us in the carpark. I was told a little grumpily after messaging and then honking my car horn that I parked at the wrong end of the carpark. Luckily, it was only for a one night stopover.

- Tracie (8/5): Great stay beautiful area - The rooms had everything we needed. A coffee machine, coffee, noodles (just in case) fully self contained. A bit far away from amenities and entertainment but still a lot to do in the area. It didn’t bother us as we only had one night.

We checked in after hour on our 1st night, Matt and Liz sent a video instruction for a fuss free check in experience with a nice personal touch. This Property is set in a peaceful nature surrounding and in a convenient location, short 15 mins drive to Cape Jervis Ferry terminal, room is very clean and spacious. Matt ad Liz came to our rescue when we nearly got stranded on our second night back from KI island by providing us a room at the last minute notice and kind hearted offered our family some breakfast and a lift to the Ferry terminal. Matt and Liz , you guys are amazing, we are very grateful for all your help and hospitality. Connie and the Family

- Tracie (8/5): Comfortable stay - Rooms were spacious and had everything we needed. Including a coffee machine. We stayed at the lodge so there is no reception or after hours service. The owners prepared us well so this was not an issue. Some supplies were in the cupboard in case you got caught out. Nothing.
- Thorsten (8/5): - Lovely place, a bit away from the city. Close enough to Normanville for a nice breakfast. The room could have benefited from some upgrades, but overall it was clean, with friendly staff and a serene environment. The cockatoos nearby can be a bit of nuisance, though.
