Guest Reviews
- Julie (10/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): Brilliant we will definitely be back - Very beautiful throughout Annie is so lovely and helpful
- David (10/5): Fantastic two days away for wedding nearby. Would definitely return . - Quality establishment, lovely setting, excellent facilities, relaxing with a fabulous host Rooms on small side but was aware of this and no complaints.
- Alexander (10/5): Room was quiet, clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good, and Annie was the perfect host. -
- Guest (10/5): Lovely host, lovely area. - Annie is such a lovely host. Was so nice to have a chat with her at breakfast. The decor was very homely, and the nearby area is absolutely gorgeous. A direct walkway runs from the retreat to a lovely forest, and in the other way, a river. The outside garden area was slightly more cluttered than the photos on booking.com.
- Laura (3/5): Lovely host but the overall experience wasn’t good. - Annie was very obliging we needed to check in early to change for a early wedding and she was very accommodating. We were told we had a different room and had to pay an extra £35 which I thought was ridiculous.
No shower just a bath, no heating so it was very cold. The most uncomfortable thing was the water bed. We didn’t sleep a wink.
Also because all the floors are tiled the sound travels and when other guests arrived you could hear everything. The tiles in the bathroom were very slippery and my partner nearly fell.
- Peter (10/5): Excellent stay - Annie couldn't do enough for us, made us feel so welcome.
Had a great stay and will come back.
- Guest (10/5): -
- John (10/5): - Annie was absolutely lovely and we had the best time from the comfort of the water bed to the beautiful private garden with the hot tub everything was absolutely perfect, we had a lovely breakfast and lovely chat with Annie , she was the perfect host, she definitely has thought of everything to make your stay perfect, I wasn't feeling that good on the Saturday afternoon with a sore stomache and there was even a hot water bottle in our linen closet in our room which helped greatly, We would definitely recommend and we will definitely be going back , we had an amazing chilled weekend, it's a stunning place views beautiful, u cant help but relax , Thankyou Annie and wee will see you soon xxx
- Cath (10/5): - I don't have the words to do Annie and The Retreat justice.
Location - excellent
Accommodation - high end
Service - first class, welcoming, friendly
- Linda (10/5): No hassle stay, very relaxed. - Breakfast was on time and very nice. Had some interesting conversations with Annie!
Annie is an artisan of her craft. Come and go as you please. It's a great place to stay. You won't be disappointed! My scooter was under a car port so stayed dry whilst parked up over night. Great! Paul. Nothing.
- Rachel (10/5): Chase the Sun - Excellent stay in the most beautiful house in an amazing quiet location close to Ayr.
Annie was the best host and served up a delicious breakfast. Would absolutely recommend and would stay again without hesitation! Thankyou Annie 😊 Nothing at all.
- Brian (10/5): Highly Recommend - Annie made us so welcoming and brilliant for a wee blether
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Lovely stay - Hostess Only a bath and no shower
- Angels (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The initial welcome by Annie was superb. The room was perfect with luxury furnishings, and hospitality was 10 out of 10. In a lovely position and the breakfast was devine.
You won't be disappointed Nothing at all.
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wilson (9/5): Delightful B&B with a welcoming atmosphere; excellent breakfasts and a charming, helpful proprietrix - Annie, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming. My room was huge, with 3 large windows and a patio door. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever had. The furnishings were pleasing and the facilities - bathroom, fridge, TV, full length free standing mirror, sofa and tables - were excellent. My one slight annoyance was that the toilet wouldn't flush. It was a Bank Holiday, so Annie was not able to get a plumber. A full cooked breakfast was served in a massive, light, dining kitchen. Annie chatted to guests while she was cooking, so that every part of the meal was freshly made. It was delicious. The Retreat is tucked away on Auchincruive Estate and, for me, was not easy to find. I used Google Maps and, unfortunately, the instructions were misleading. Use SatNav or take a taxi! Despite my travel problems, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and highly recommend the Retreat. The non flushing toilet.
- Elaine (10/5): Outstanding experience. - Thee most beautiful house, gardens and surrounding area in Auchincruive. Our room was large with tiled floors, waterbed and sofa area. It had large wardrobes, slippers gowns fridge and a complimentary tray containing tea, coffee, tunnocks, water and bottle of prosecco. We were gifted toiletries of amazing quality,so thoughtful. The bathroom had a spa bath. We had our own patio, garden area and hot tub. Beautiful well maintained garden area with 3 seating areas. Breakfast is served in the most luxurious kitchen area. Cooked fresh to your specification and presented professionally. The seating area to eat is outstanding. Now to Annie, the host. Her welcoming, warm and professional manner is what makes the stay the intimate, individual experience. Her attention to detail is excellent, she has thought of everything to make your stay the retreat experience. She caters to your every whim. She is a special lady. Overall an outstanding stay. Nothing

- Karen (10/5): We should have stayed longer! - Annie is the perfect host - nothing is too much trouble. She has a beautiful home and makes you feel very much ‘at home’. The rooms are very comfy with quality furnishings and the bedrooms also have direct access to your own relaxing part of the garden. The breakfast is amazing and set us up for the day ahead. Thanks for a perfect stay and the extra little treats.
- Mark (10/5): Relaxing stay in luxury surroundings just perfect. - Annie is the most amazing, kind, generous host, nothing is too much trouble. Absolutely gorgeous house in beautiful grounds and countryside. A luxury stay, we had a beautiful room, the waterbed was amazing my husband after being skeptical is now a complete convert, jacuzzi bath and our own private garden and hot tub. Dressing gown and slippers, Prosecco in the fridge and other welcome gifts. Breakfast was made to order at a time of our choice and served in the most beautiful kitchen. We were made to feel welcome and very quickly relaxed. This is a hidden gem not to be missed we will be recommending to everyone and hope to visit again soon.

The accommodation has a water bed! Had my doubts but it was amazing had a great sleep. The whole accommodation oozes luxury, lots of quirky bits which I love as this makes it very interesting.
Breakfast was fab, exceptional choices of cereals, fruit, etc and also hot cooked breakfast made to order by Annie, which was excellent and plenty of choice.
The grounds are lovely, there are two hot tubs, unfortunately we did not get the opportunity of using due to the wet July weather, but look forward to using on a return visit.
We stayed 2 nights met a lovely family from South Africa we were all there for the Open golf in Troon. Very friendly indeed.

- Rvvw (10/5): The Retreat at The Knowe with Ann is diving into luxury, great care and hospitality for fair price! - Again a perfect 10 for all the right reasons:
1 Communications with host Ann(ie) was clear and prompt to get us to the right place at the right time.
2 The Estate is clearly visible from the road, but not close to the road: nice and quiet.
3 Enough and good parking places on the premisses.
4 The estate does not look very big for the outside but surely is! It has been transformed from a former separate house for preparing for hunting, to a stylish modern villa, with a tea terrace in a huge tree behind the house.
5 Annie took great care in decorating each room and terrace - each room had its own - with great care for consistent style. She loves tigers and in pictures and statues the animals are omnipresent; not the real ones by the way.
6 The kitchen is enormous, yet cosy and beautiful, very clean and great for having breakfast.
7 The garden is well maintained.
8 The bathroom is private and immaculate with thick towels
9 Excellent bed, beautiful and comfortable linnens
10 Across the street - less than a minute away - is de the Burns-Wallace memorial: a pile of stones near the river, just a modest staircase away, easy accessible, with poetry on the pile. 'Worth the detour'!
What stands out most is Annies hospitality. With a nice Scottish touch, she is full of stories, advice for day visits, and prepares and serves breakfast the way you wish. For the cereal lover, at least 10 varieties. We choose eggs and croissants with coffee (and tested several cereals). Nothing is a problem for her. She showed us around in her beautiful Estate of which she is really proud, for obvious reasons. This is what we wanted and got plenty of it. Nothing really - The space between our bed and the big closet was a bit tight but not a problem.
- Revell (9/5): Cost and comfortable - Loved the room and breakfast No bath.. the room with bath was a different one and it wasn’t clear on booking
- Barbara (8/5): Annie is very friendly. - Annie the owner went over and above for us to accommodate us and allowed us early access as we were attending a wedding. Nothing.
