Guest Reviews
- Jacklyn (10/5): - Lower Crankan Farm was honestly probably our favourite stay during our Cornwall trip. We stayed in Lowena, the little wagon/trailer in the garden and it was such a unique, peaceful experience. Not sure what we were expecting as we booked the place quickly but everything was beyond our expectations to say the least! Even though it’s situated on the host’s property, it never actually felt like we were staying in someone’s garden as the space felt very private and nicely separated from the main house.
The host (Phil) was absolutely lovely — genuinely one of the sweetest people and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. The location itself was beautiful and peaceful, and the wagon had great amenities despite being compact. We especially appreciated that it had a proper kitchen setup, which made cooking really easy during our stay. It also had a wonderful garden area to sit out and enjoy tea/coffee and look at the horses and ducks!
One of our favourite features was the sun roof in the wagon — it made the space feel so bright and cozy, especially since the area gets plenty of sunshine. Overall, such a charming and memorable place to stay and somewhere we’d absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Cornwall.

- Zak (10/5): A beautiful short stay in Cornwall, Geoff and Phill ensured we were comfortable and looked after the whole time were the - Beautiful property on a farm - really quiet and away from the hustle and bustle, but not too far from local towns Nothing!
- Michelle (10/5): An absolutely perfect place to stay in idyllic surroundings with lovely friendly hosts! Have already booked for 2 trips - The property is absolutely gorgeous everything you could possibly need is provided, we loved our stay
- Kathryn (10/5): Glorious stay with fabulous hosts - N/A A blind for skylight might have been good.
- Jake (10/5): A relaxing, cosy and pleasant stay, would highly recommend to other travellers. - We liked the cosy vibe of the hut and the peace and quiet that came with the location. Greeted on arrival by Phil, who showed us to the hut and gave a full explanation of where facilities and where the switches were for them. If we had any queries, Phil said we could just pop to the house and ask if needed. The hut was immaculate, clean and nicely done out. The bed was comfortable and the extra blanket was handy to have when it was cold. Being the first time we experienced compact living, we enjoyed our time in the hut and look forward to staying again in future. N/A

- Márcia (10/5): Fantastic - Everything! The cabin is so cozy and it's located in a very tranquil farm. Ideal if you need to disconnect.
- Price-Stephens (10/5): Perfect - The place is idylic. Hosts are amazing?I g and thr Shepherds Cottage is perfect and easy to find. We had a car but also used public transport as we are quite active. We did Land's End Parkrun, walked some of the coast path and also ran with a group out of Penzance. Everyone was very friendly and the pubs were all good too. Nothing
- Robyn McNiece (10/5): Perfect - Location is very peaceful. Perfect for animal lovers. Geoffrey and Phil are friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts. Nothing for us but would be a compact space for larger people.
- Annmaria (10/5): -
- Gabriele (10/5): Fantastisch! - Es war etwas ganz Besonderes! Alles perfekt. Es gab kein Shampoo, aber egal.
- Neil (8/5): - The Shepherd's Hut was beautifully fitted out, clean and comfortable. My only comment would be that the property is advertised as bed and breakfast but I was supplied with a welcome pack, which was perfectly good but not quite what i was expecting.
- Ulrich (10/5): - Absolute Empfehlung!
Nix!
- Nigel (9/5): Very very good - The location was great with excellent parking, however, signage to find the accommodation wasn't good. The setting and level of quality of the hut couldn't be faulted. I would of liked the lighted the skylight to have had a blind for when sleeping. Signage to find the entry to accommodation.
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (8/5): Very good - The small, black dog, Harry, that greeted us upon our arrival was adorable! Phil, the host was most helpful with advice and directions to several places in the area. He also left us with a nice bottle of chilled wine in the refrigerator! A sign at the entrance road to the property would have been helpful. It was a bit small.
- Joao (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krzysztof (10/5): fantastic place for a vacation. 100% recommend -
- Dawn (10/5): Escape the hustle and bustle of life - We stayed in the Shepherds hut at Crankan Farm which is situated in the Farm’s gorgeous garden. If you love animals then this is the place to stay, there are Geese opposite the hut and horses and cows nearby. We particularly loved the skylight in the Shepard’s hut, seeing the stars at night is a wonderful experience … the Farm is set in a beautiful part of Cornwall, no wonder a lot of Artists also live in the area, the hosts Geoff and Phill are amazing and so welcoming, with a great knowledge of Penzance and the surrounding areas. We received a lovely welcoming pack on arrival and they are close by if you need anything.
If you wish to escape the hustle and bustle of life then we highly recommend you escape to Crankan Farm … we definitely will return Having to go home, wanted to stay forever!
- Paulette (8/5): Wonderful. Looking forward to returning. - It was quaint and the gardens were beautiful. Excellent ambience where the flora scented the air. Easy parking. Picturesque. Perfect for having afternoon tea on the patio. Great welcome and helpfulness from proprietor. I loved looking at the stars through the skylight. Only thing was it lacked a microwave. The shower was a bit small but this did not detract from how beautiful it is.
- Xuetong (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice scenery around. Cozy and quite. Pretty nice for a chill holiday. The hosts are super friendly and willing to help, provided us very detailed guidance info we need. 120% definitely recommend!!!
- Angelito (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. The place was superb and the hosts (Geoff and Phil) were excellent. Always giving suggestions on how we can make the most out of our planned destinations for the day. None. We liked everything.
- Olga (10/5): More than I could wish for. - Thank you so much to the hosts for the wonderful stay at your farm. The farm, both the house and the garden, is very beautiful, quiet and charming. The interior design of the house is very artistic and cozy at the same time. The owners treated us to delicious breakfasts with freshly cut flowers decorating the table. They also shared numerous tips on local places to visit and to eat. We felt very welcomed and would love to come back. Everyting was superb!
- Dean (10/5): Beautiful. - Beautiful place in beautiful country with wonderful hosts and an incredible breakfast. Nothing
- Pavan (9/5): Lower Crankan Farm is, without a doubt, the best B&B we’ve visited so far. - Just a short 10-minute drive from Penzance, Lower Crankan Farm is a hidden gem, offering a serene and peaceful retreat that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle. We recently had the pleasure of staying in the shepherd's hut for three days, and it was an experience we'll cherish.
Though the hut is compact—barely larger than a train coach—it’s incredibly well-equipped. Inside, you'll find all the essentials neatly tucked away. There's a small kitchenette with two stoves, a freezer, and a cozy dining area. The hut even has its own little restroom, ensuring you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The bed is particularly noteworthy—slightly elevated from the floor, it’s wonderfully comfortable and made for a great night’s sleep.
The farm itself is alive with activity, home to chickens, cattle, and horses, all set against a backdrop of stunning countryside. It's the perfect spot for those who love nature and want to unwind in a beautiful, rural setting.
Breakfast was a highlight of our stay. Selected from a menu the evening before, it was served in the charming conservatory, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere to start the day. The food was delicious and made with fresh, local ingredients.
Lower Crankan Farm is, without a doubt, the best B&B we’ve visited so far. It’s a place where you can truly relax and disconnect, and the shepherd’s hut offers a unique experience that adds to the charm. If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation in a picturesque setting, we highly recommend staying here. As you do not have any mobile network coverage here - the WiFi signal could have been better, it gets disconnected often.
- Gavin (10/5): Exceptional property. Phil and Geoff were super friendly and helpful. You will love your stay at this property. Book it. - The welcome, property, location and quality of the food provided at breakfast were exceptional. If you want an off the beaten track location but still within easy reach of St Ives, Penzance, Lands end and Lizard then this is for you. I would say that Lower Crankan Farm would be difficult to beat. The only thing I would suggest could be improved upon is another mirror in the Shepards Hut on the inside of the wardrobe.
- John (10/5): Couldn't have asked for more! - Our stay on Lower Crankan Farm was stellar, Phil and Geoff made us feel incredibly welcome in their space and went above and beyond to help us out during our entire weekend stay. The farm is beautiful and is perfectly situated super close to scenic spots in West Cornwall like St Ives, Newlyn, Lands End etc but all the while still feeling like you are hidden away in your own countryside getaway. They also cook up a mean breakfast! Will definitely be returning! Nothing bad to say at all.
- Ron (10/5): Loved it - Everything Nothing
- Brenda (10/5): A top guest house experience, I look forward to returning! - Amazing property, well located to see/do all the things, comfortable room, cute private patio just outside the room, and generous guidance regarding what to see/do and where to eat. Look forward to returning!
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - A very warm welcome awaited us at arriving. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was super! Phil made us 'feel at home'. Thank you!!! Hope to stay with you again...
- Pawel (10/5): Exceptional - - Exelent and beautiful location
- Evening and breakfast in conservatory surrounded by beautiful garden's
- Beautiful and friendly horses
- Knowladge and friendly owners N/A
- Manuela (10/5): The best place to relax and discover Cornwall - The farm is a very quiet and relaxing place. The hosts' hospitality and their recommendations for restaurants and tours around the area made our stay in south Cornwall very special. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast with fresh and local products. Thanks for everything!
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ron (9/5): Superb - Lovely quiet setting and very good location for seeing Cornwall. Amazing hosts, great breakfast and a classy accommodation. Great suggestions for places to eat.
- Sigrid (8/5): Very good - The B&B is in a very idyllic and quiet location surrounded by lots of greenery. Phil is a very nice, accommodating host and he makes excellent breakfast. The rooms are very small, there is a beautiful winter garden which is used for breakfast. Very nice bathroom. It would be nice if the winter garden could be used better, e.g. to make tea and coffee there and also to eat a little something (maybe a small fridge for the milk?) The rooms are very small and really only usable for sleeping.
- Sunny (10/5): Fabulous - Hosts were fabulous..they have made our trip memorable with their hospitality, care and amazing suggestions for our trip around the area. Right from the beginning of our stay to the end they were fabulous. I couldn’t ask anything better than this..thank you Phil & Jeff
- John (9/5): Does exactly what it says on the tin - Rural tranquility N/A
- Diana (9/5): Superb - Fabulous hosts, settings and bed. Very clean and great quality everything from bedding, to fresh eggs and amazing cheese (and croissants which my husband thoroughly enjoyed lol). LOVED our hosts Phil and Geoff so much, they are both amazing, very kind, friendly and chatty and would go above and beyond to attend your every need
The farm and its location are out of this world beautiful and charming and peaceful. We loved the gardens and also playing with Harry, the friendliest happiest dog ever! Hoping to come back soon, already missing you all!!! No mini fridge in the room, unable to lock adjoining kitchen door, also proximity to kitchen made it extremely noisy at times
- Rs (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect in every way. Phil is the most excellent host! We will definitely be back. Nothing.
- Lesley (10/5): Beautiful location and a perfect host thank you Phil. - Everything, hard to find a fault.
- Salome (10/5): Phil, Geoff and animals are so welcoming that you won't want to leave! - The breakfast offered a lot of choice and was very generous in a beautiful conservatory. The property is in a very well location between the north and south cost of West Cornwall and ideal for exploring idyllic villages, quite beaches and hiking. Nothing at all!
- Babs (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maryanne (9/5): Wonderful spot to stay ! Great hosts ! - Lovely peaceful spot. Geoff & Phil were wonderful hosts, extremely obliguing. Room was lovely & breakfast excellent Liked everything
- Alistair (9/5): Superb -
- Rex (10/5): the owners went out of their way to provide a beautiful breakfast with homegrown eggs, fresh baked bread, local cheeses. - it was close to our friends home.. loved the setting tricky to maneuver the roads to get there
- Kay (10/5): Extraordinary, relaxing B&B hidden in the countryside, but well worth the extra mile - Really an extraordinary B&B. The hosts were very hospitable. Their cat and dog did also welcome us very friendly.
Our Garden Room had its own entrance and its own little terrace. Room and bath were very clean and modern.
The delicious breakfast (selected from a menu the evening before) was served in a very pleasant atmosphere in the conservatory. For dinner our hosts provided us with excellent recommendations for local restaurants.
This B&B is the best we ever visited to far and allows for a really nice and relaxing vacation. Unfortunately we had only booked for 4 nights. The only thing we missed was WiFi on the terrace of our room. But not having it there also has its advantages.
- Sktravelbugs (10/5): A perfect place to stay if you ant to tour around the Penzance and St. Ives area. - Phil and Geoff really were the most gracious hosts. They were so welcoming from beginning to end and endeavoured to make our experience at their place memorable...at it was. They offered up suggestions of places to visit each morning and everything they suggested was exactly what we were looking for. Everything here was perfect - the room, the facilities, the animals, breakfast, property, location to Penzance - perfect! We would certainly stay here again! Nothing - the place was perfect!
- Raymond (10/5): Amazing - The Staff were very helpful & made us feel at home The staff were exceptional and help us in every way
