Guest Reviews
- Dhanaram (10/5): Fabulous - Almost everything. Gym was ridiculously small. Breakfast was average and the spread doesn’t have enough variety.
- Kuchi (10/5): -
- KARTHIK (10/5): We were at peace - The property was too good
- Vengateshwaran (8/5): -
- Deepak (9/5): -
- Nithish (4/5): While certain comforts stood out, the overall stay did not justify the hype. Significant improvements in food, service, - • The heater and temperature control system in the rooms is excellent — a perfect setup that ensures comfort.
• The swimming pool is a good facility, and the balcony space is decent, though it offers no real views of the hills or valleys.
• The tea served in the buffet was outstanding. Tamara Kodaikanal is often surrounded by hype, but my experience suggests it doesn’t quite live up to the reputation. The property attempts to maintain an old medieval style, yet the execution feels incomplete and lacks refinement. • Food Quality: The buffet counter is small and often overcrowded. As my mother could not walk to the buffet area, we ordered tandoor items for her on the first night, but they were badly overcooked, almost burnt. While the hotel later cancelled the cost and the gesture was appreciated, such errors should be completely avoided. On the second night, we ordered fish curry for her, but it lacked authentic Malabar flavors. The barbecue was also disappointing — limited to chicken and fish, with no mutton, and the taste fell short compared to Arabic or Lebanese standards. The tea served in our parents room lacked natural flavor compared to the buffet.
• Children’s Facilities: While there are some recreational options like table tennis, a mini football hand-play station, and a paid kids’ play station, there are no specific activities for children under five — no slides, kids’ room, or traditional play options like an oonjaal (swing). They do offer painting classes, cooking classes, and cricket competitions for older kids, but we could not make use of these.
• Service Standards: Employees were polite, but service needs further coaching, especially among waitstaff and front desk .
• Room Amenities: Rooms had no blinds, which was inconvenient and poorly justified as a “leisure style” choice. Only one key was provided per apartment, creating unnecessary hassles for families. The minibar was not refilled daily, which should be a basic standard.
• Driver Accommodation: The accommodation and food offered to our driver were substandard. Hotels of this category should ensure minimum quality for staff and drivers accompanying guests, as this directly impacts customer satisfaction.

All items are expensive including coffee, water, food. One bottle of water costs Rs. 400. One day room rent including breakfast was nearly Rs.30,000.

Swimming pool The service in the restaurant was pathetic.
Lack of man power, and the staff was totally inexperienced to handle the guests.
The property is good to visit in off season .
- Ajikumar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anup (6/5): - Room rates expensive and nothing exceptional surrounding beauty
We booked 3 rooms and were given rooms facing rain water storage dam!!! Mosquitoes breeding site
We complained and were moved to other location.
A la Carter restaurant at dinner we were the only people and very pricey and tasteless food
- Amitabh (1/5): Not at all for someone looking for peaceful stay - Can you believe it they were allowing guests with giant speaker box and outside liquor. Music played full blast.
Drinking Water was contaminated GM defiant and not owning up to the lapses
- Manoshi (10/5): Love, serenity, perfect gateway to escape from busy life. Excellent Property & Value for money - An excellent property in the lap of nature-kind of hidden gem. Staff & hospitality were outstanding.
Dinesh - F&B manager, Charles, Dev and to top up with Chef Prem, had taken excellent care to us.
Food was just stupendous and delicious, special thanks to Chef Prem for preparing mouth watering & finger licking Lal Maas. Never been so satisfied & happy with any properties that we have stayed so far.
Also special thanks to Preetika & Front office stuffs for their courtesy & gesture. A perfect gateway from the Hussle & bustle of busy life . Thanks TAMARA Team & Staffs Everything was excellent. No room for disliking
- Fathima (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ajesh (8/5): Poor property maintenance and room heating system not working during my 3 night stay. - Heated pool, Breakfast spread and in general Food and beverages. Maintenance of the facility is below par, Garden in poor shape, electric fittings in open areas not well insulated and not in compliance with safety norms. Dangerous to kids.. Finally my room heating system was not working for all three nights of my stay and I did not have a comfortable stay, even as the staff arranged a temporary oil heater which makes noise and not effective for the room size, In all we all was having a real five star level comfort😉
- Nathan (9/5): Was a relaxing wonderful stay - Excellent Spread
Very Tasty
Wonderful support staffs
Especially Dinesh and Chef were too good
- Payel (10/5): I had a very pleasant stay .. very relaxing - Excellent views, amazing food and great staffs.. they were always smiling and ready to help Nothing
- Madhu (7/5): Good - Over all the location is good...
But cost of food and stay is very high.
Staff are very good ..
Food quality fair
- Swati (9/5): Superb -
- Mohammed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mohammed (4/5): Not worth the money, I recommend choose any other good propert in stead of this property. As it is not the value of mone - Swimming pool We didn’t like anything here in this property. All staff were rude, especially lady staff
- Kannan (8/5): Very good - The property was very beautiful. The staff was friendly. The food was tasty and there was good variety. There were too many flies in the restaurant areas. That put us off a bit. The management should take steps to control it.
- Abdul (9/5): Nice - Clean friendly caring staff The loud noise from above flats, due to wooden floors. Even walking of resident in rooms above disturbing sleep.
- Medha (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the setup, the rooms, the aesthetics, the food, the facilities and most importantly the staff. Always happy and smiling and trying to help us with even the smallest requests and I mean really, genuinely trying. SUPERB service, special mention to Mr. Hari, Mr. Shanta Kumar, Deb, Soni, Ebi who made it all so comfortable for us. Book it without a thought, absolutely worth the buck :)
- Manmeet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nagasimha (8/5): Pleasant stay - Breakfast and snack varieties needs improvement Access to location was not easy
- Praveen (6/5): Pleasant - Vintage style rooms, spacious bathrooms. Reception was good. Games and other fun activities were enjoyable. It was near to quite few places. They catered my last minute request of a birthday cake which was nice of them. We had a wonderful stay at The Tamara for our birthday celebration, and the reviews definitely lived up to the experience. Unfortunately, our enjoyment was cut short by an upset stomach and vomiting the following morning.
While the hotel itself was fantastic, we encountered a disappointing situation with the late-night dining options. We opted for a late dinner and were surprised to find only chicken available. We ordered dry chicken and dal. While the dal was delicious, the chicken was unfortunately rubbery, and we suspect this may have been the cause of our illness.
For a hotel of The Tamara's caliber, we expected the kitchen to be operational for a few more hours to cater to guests with late-night cravings or dietary needs. This single incident overshadowed our otherwise delightful stay.
- Manasa (1/5): Not worth the money we spent - Rooms were clean The staff asked lot of questions on how there three people. The value for money is not satisfactory. We traveled all night and came we early around 10 and we need not get room until it is exact 1 , I felt they could have been more accommodating in giving room as did check out early 3 hours. Breakfast is usually complimentary however it is chargeable in Tamara. The staff kept on reminding that it is chargeable which made us uncomfortable. We spent almost 90k for 1 and half day well . There is no much activity and activity are also payable . We have been CGh Wayard and Swasara by train and they gave us early check ins and loads of activities. Need to game up. Since there was CM visit during our visit not much attention to other guests. Please take care of these things. Spending 90k was not worth it with no activities at all

- Sasikumar (5/5): Passable -
- Ajay (2/5): - Jas tge stay was just around Easter time, I had a ‘divine’ experience at the Tamara! I have heard about Jesus feeding 5000 people with 5 pieces of bread. This is just what the promoters are doing here. Trying to cater to the guests with little or no staff at all. They should perhaps stick to their core competence of running an IT company and not foray into hospitality. They could run IT companies with mass hiring as and mass layoffs according to the work flow/ contracts, but a hotel needs a decent amount of workforce to run efficiently. The only saving grace is the food. Rest everything suffers because the property is terribly understaffed. Delay in service, lack of sufficient/ trained service staff are all quite evident. No proper table set up. No proper buggy arrangement. The property has 2 buggies and one person to man it per shift! Some of the staff are quite nice, but they are stretched too thin and so the result is terrible! If it goes this way, this property/ brand will soon come to a tragic end. Perhaps they don’t care because there is only limited choice for all the crowd that comes to kodaikanal and they property will have high occupancy, but the authorities must reconsider their star category and adjust it accordingly so people can expect less.

- Akilesh (8/5): Very good -
- Krishnendu (6/5): Overrated - Good property layout and design. Property is clean and well maintained. All recreational facilities are paid. Food is average, but very pricey. Rooms are large, but not designed for space. Lake view is a misnomer, trees block the view totally. No nearby shops, nearest is about 2 kms plus. Because of traffic congestion, this 2 kms can take upto 1.5 hours to drive.
