Guest Reviews

- KEIZO (10/5): - Amazing house! Old tasty house that we love.
Very clean. Great location. Best! None
- Anne (9/5): Traditional and special gem - It was special to stay in an old traditional house. It has all the facilities you need for a self contained house. The location was local and quiet It met all my expectations. I had to google how to use the washing machine so some English institutions would have been nice otherwise it was perfect
- Francesca (10/5): -
- Anthony (8/5): - Loved the old world feel of the home, location near to the old areas of Kanazawa as well as the newer nightlife near the canal. It's a bit of a pain to get it from Kanazawa station (easy in a taxi but)
- Jamie (10/5): Perfect Japanese experience for Japan style house so clean - Everything such a cute house so traditional yet so modern easily accessible our favourite stay in Japan. I wish it was my house! Cannot find fault
- Joseph (10/5): Excellent - Excellent customer service. Well appointed house with luxurious touches like the beautiful serving ware, thoughtful amenity kit and local coffee and tea. Immaculately clean, too. It was the best property we stayed at in Japan to date. One of the few places where the online photos were not as good as the house! Highly recommended! More counter space in the kitchen. House was cold on arrival but warmed up quickly.
- Ross (9/5): - Beautiful traditional Japanese house very close to Samurai district.
We're able to contact Michio the Manager and he picked us up from Kanazawa station and showed us around the house.
Good value for money and the most authentic place we stayed in Japan. Washing machine takes too long to wash & dry.
- Miura (10/5): -
- Kellie (10/5): Highly recommend this place for a more authentic and traditional experience of Kanazawa - The host was really friendly, and picked us up from the station and drove us to the accommodation, making our arrival easy and stress free. We each received a bag of toiletries/amenities, which was a nice touch.
The house was spotlessly clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. The location was just a few minutes walk to the samurai district and a quick walk into town. Cannot think of anything …
- Luca Pagano (10/5): - Casa tradizionale bellissima e ben curata
- Fiona (9/5): - We liked the opportunity to stay in an old house with all the associated quirks. The washing machine was very welcome. The pick up from the train station was a blessing, particularly as it helped with orienting ourselves within Kanazawa and finding our way around. The home is in a great location. The stairs were really steep, but as we learned throughout our time in Japan, this is not out of the ordinart
- Pedro (10/5): -
- sophie (10/5): - Excellent. It is exactly what it looks and reads like jn the booking. Would recommend
- MIWA (10/5): -

- Tracey (10/5): Beautiful house, well appointed - It was clean and well provided. There were even little toiletry sets with everything you could need. It was a very well maintained traditional house. Narrow stairs but this can't be helped and we knew of this from reading previous reviews.
- Sarah (9/5): A unique stay - The property was very quaint with a 5-10min stroll to various restaurants and the old samurai district. Washer/Dryer provided and split systems in all rooms. Great water pressure in the bathroom. Comfortable couch in the living room for relaxing (could’ve been slightly bigger.) Beds were a little hard - standard for Japan, and the stairs are so steep they are almost like a ladder. The closest supermarket/convenience store was a 15min walk away.
- luigi (10/5): -
Lits hyper conforts Rien

- Annick (10/5): Wonderful traditional house that really felt like home. Wished we stayed longer - Incredibly beautiful house, very nice size, beautifully decorated with an authentic feel and great amenities We liked everything
- sunny (10/5): Perfect - Traditionally well appointed house in a great walkable location. Perfect really.
- Mordi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sheree (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely modern renovated house with good quality fittings and furniture. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.
Lots of lovely touches and attention to detail.
Plenty of choices of crockery and everything you need for self catering with nice addition of wine glasses.
Close proximity to everything .
Our favourite place in Japan so far.
Would recommend!
- Tamara (10/5): Great location, amenities, and friendly host. - Great location and atmosphere. The beds were comfortable and it had everything we needed.
- Anna (9/5): Superb - Short distance from the castle and a lot of restaurants nearby.
Fancy modern house.
Pick up at the station AC in the living room was a bit weak
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - This was such an incredible place to stay. The most beautiful area, this house is a great location. Such an amazing and beautiful interior, very spacious and clean, also quite modern. The facilities were superb, and we even got to try kimonos! Lots of area for dining or card games and the bedding was very comfortable. We loved this spot. The owner sent us a message to check-in and gave us very detailed instructions on how to get in and check out which was very helpful and kind.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrick (10/5): Beautiful place that gives you even more privacy than a room with your own bathroom. - An entire traditional townhouse is next to a Ryokan one of the things I think someone should have lived in on a Japan visit. It is close to the samurai district which has many beautiful old buildings and reasonably close to Kanazawa‘s fish market. If you have the rare opportunity to have a full kitchen on vacation you should take advantage of that. A lot of these houses disappear every year because they are very expensive to maintain and repair so I ask everyone to please give machias like Kaga House your business. I recommend staying longer than one night. Just sleeping there wastes the potential of the house. The stairs are extremely steep and all bedrooms are upstairs which is with the size of the house not really something that can be fixed but it is something to consider for elderly or disabled people. Especially because the house is otherwise really something you‘d want to bring your whole family on vacation to
- Suzanne (10/5): Kaga House was a welcome oasis in the middle of our trip to Japan and we would stay again! - Loved the beautiful home, the location, the finest appliances, the comfy bed, the washing machine! Stairs were very steep for bringing suitcases up and down but appreciated the hand rails.
- Alex (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely, comfortable house a short walk from the historic centre of Kanazawa. Excellently furnished and equipped. Communication ahead of the booking was good, and we even got picked up from the train station for free! The manager also arranged to send our luggage by takuhaibin to our next destination for us. Fantastic service! Honestly can't think of any negatives.
- Joost (10/5): Splendid apartment on an excellent location - Kaga House is a beautiful place. The apartment is really Japanese with a low table but also modern. We slept in a normal bed and the kids on matrasses on Japanese Tatami mats. The apartment is very close to the Samurai district.
- Elgene (7/5): Good -
- Paulina (6/5): Pleasant - The architecture of the house is very beautiful, as is the surrounding area. It was clean and well-maintained. The nearest station was about a 10-minute walk away, and the bus stop was just around the corner. If you don't mind a slightly longer commute to the city center, this place could be ideal for you. It’s located in a very peaceful neighborhood, which makes it a great choice if you're looking for tranquility. The house is spacious, and it comfortably accommodates a large family. There are also additional futons available. However, the property is quite old, and during our stay, there were some issues with heating, despite efforts to manage it through air conditioning. The lower part of the house was very cold, especially the bathroom, which made things a bit uncomfortable.
- Diana (10/5): Perfect rental, wish we had more time in Kanazawa and would stay there again. - Beautiful traditionally styled house. Updated with modern amenities. Lovely antique touches and very clean. Thoughtful appointment throughout. Full kitchen for Japanese style cooking.
Sweet little Japanese garden area in the back.
Hostess, very helpful, prompt and thorough.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Grzegorz (10/5): Comfort in japanese way. - Equipped with anything you can think of and more. Numerous amenities and complimentary treats.
- Becky (9/5): Superb - Plenty of space, great little house, excellent location
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Russell (10/5): Very enjoyable stay in a comfortable Japanese style house. - Traditional Japanese home style stay with tatami mats and a nicely furnished home. The stairs are very steep up to the bedrooms.
- Kim (8/5): Good value for money and overall a great property. - The bedrooms were comfortable with warm bedding for our December stay. Beautiful place with everything in very good condition. Even with the aircon on it was a little cool at times as the frosted glass panels in the front door didn’t help with retaining heat.
- Marcy (10/5): Awesome experience! - It’s cozy! Very clean and great service. Love the small garden view. They even offered a shuttle from the train station. There is no toilet upstairs
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Periklis (10/5): Exceptional - How well maintained the property is and how well taken care of you feel during your stay.
- John (9/5): A cute, comfortable house on a quiet street, just a quick walk to restaurants and historic houses. - It was great having our own house. It was very clean and the host was extremely responsive with all of our questions. The stairs were very narrow.
- Lewis-whaanga (10/5): Fantastic stay in Kanazawa - Beautiful house in a great location. We loved our stay here and if we ever visit Kanazawa would definitely stay again! Nothing to complain about
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Ariane (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great, high quality for everything, even better than the pictures. Super nice vibe.
They are super friendly and even recommended an amazing restaurant. Loved everything.
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (9/5): Kaga House gives an authentic Japanese house feel. - Having someone meet us at the train station and take us to Kaga House was a big bonus, the whole check in process was easy.
Kaga House is just like the pictures and made two Aussies feel like they were staying at an authentic residence, which is what we wanted. The stairs are very steep and narrow, we managed ok, but the toilet is downstairs so this could be a problem if you have mobility issues.
- Ema (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (9/5): Charming Stay - The house was beautiful. It was very well appointed with all the cutlery and toiletries needed. We loved staying here over Christmas with snow in the Japanese garden. Very helpful staff picking us up and sending forgotten items to next hotel! We didn’t realize the washing machine had no dryer which was a problem given we were staying 5 nights, snowy weather and no laundromat nearby. A combined washer / drier would be a very good idea as we had to hang our laundry all over the house.
- Xuan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lena (9/5): Superb - Very attentive host . Great location . Beds are comfortable. 100% recommended!
- Amandine (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful traditional house! You really feel like home.
The 2 occidental beds are very comfortable, the bathroom is perfect.
Very nice to be picked up by car at the station Be ready to sleep on futons if you are more than 2 people!
- Jackie (9/5): A wonderful place to stay for families if you’re looking for something a bit more traditional and you want some space to - Loved the location, the amount of space for our family of 5, the decor, the beds were comfy and we loved being able to have a bath! The stairs were very steep, but we managed fine, we just left a light on downstairs in case anyone had to get up during the night.
- Lorraine (9/5): we would absolutely stay at kaga house again - excellent location, charming house, appreciated ride from station to house - michio was very nice. very clean and has many amenities a little bit of a smell of food, maybe from prior guests cooking. but very minor.
- Frazer (10/5): loved it! - absolutely gorgeous property, very authentic and cosy!
- Kt (6/5): Terrible check in staff - newly renovated, clean Terrible staff / service.
This is not a escape room where I need to find out everything by myself.
Check in procedure not given on time, needed to chase after the staff to give me the key codes.
Wifi codes not given to me in a normal manner, they say it was in a book somewhere and refused to give me the wifi code. FYI I when you decide to stay there, the wifi code is hidden in a plastic cover, hidden somewhere between the bookcase 🤣🤣
- Deb (10/5): welcome peaceful retreat.everything we wanted - well appointed and calm environment close to city and old town nothing
- Lee (8/5): Very good -
- Zohar (8/5): Very good - The house is amazing and Miyoko is very warm and nice.
Miyako offered to take us from the train station to the house free of charge. The futon beds are on the firm side and the steps to/from 2nd floor are steep.
- Merng (8/5): fantastic near to samurai street - location cold in winter
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Jolene (6/5): Pleasant -
- Vytautas (8/5): Very good -
- Hamilton (9/5): Superb -
