Guest Reviews
- G. E. (10/5): - My mother and I came for a night and we were delighted with the lovely rooms. My mother chose the room with a bathroom that had a grabrail and a chair to sit on and it suited her well. The rooms were cosy and warm. The breakfast was a "help yourself" affair with cereal, yoghurts, brioche and croissants which you took to your room to eat. Milk and juices were in the fridge. A toaster would be a good addition with honey and jam but we were fine. There is no evening meal available here at the moment but we were given a list of places to eat nearby which was helpful. All in all, it was clean, warm, and the rooms were very nice. Thank you.
- Steve (8/5): - No food except some breakfast items but we went to the cafe behind the Spar. Great room, tidy, clean corner window double aspect. Good sleep.
- Susan (8/5): - No cooked breakfast although there was a continental breakfast
- John (10/5): - My stay was very enjoyable and I will do it again
- Lynn (8/5): - Stay was very comfortabe with adequate amenities for short stay. Quiet, peaceful and very convenient for the areas to visit.
- John (8/5): - Clean comfortable quiet room and bathroom although tired was spotless too with plenty hot water. Very convenient for white eagle at rhoscolyn a half hour walk away
- Karen (8/5): - This hotel is providing limited rooms/service as it is up for sale. Nevertheless, the rooms are cleaned daily and have free wifi. There is no restaurant and the bar is only open 4-8pm. So very few resources, but Treaddur Bay has shops, pubs snd restaurants. The Spar sells lobster! So if you are prepared for limited facilities but a clean and peaceful stay this is a good choice
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible - Terrible beds, dated decor, broken loo seat. No sleep due to thin walls and a loudly snoring neighbour! However, we had a partial sea view, the host was genial and we had a lovely evening a short drive away in Trearddur Bay!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The booking site stated it was B&B but in fact it was a table with breakfast goods on it.
- Ada (10/5): - Wonderful hotel, nice chick style, lots of decor and
- Craig (6/5): - We booked the accommodation after checking their website which indicated meals were available. However on arrival we were informed that no meals were available.
The location is 2 miles in either direction.
Note that the taxi service is very poor in the area.
- Ian (6/5): 2 night getaway - Arrived at 3.50 pm to a hotel locked with a notice stating open at 4.00 pm. Hotel on line says 3.00pm book in. Notified at check in that food is no longer available onsite apart from continental breakfast. Talking to another guest we were told that the owners were considering about selling the hotel. Room was acceptable and clean apart from a few slight carpet stains
- Helen (8/5): - Hotel was convenient for the ferry to Dublin. Room was clean and tidy with help yourself continental breakfast available.
- Ian (6/5): - Help your self to continental breakfast ok but no facilities in room to eat in comfort .
- Amanda (8/5): - We really didn’t mind staying here, the walls are really thin so it is very noisy when other guests are coming and going. It would be helpful to have soap in the rooms and maybe shampoo and conditioner sachets
- Paul (6/5): - Owner tried hard but wants investment very soon
- Paul (10/5): - I've stayed here quite often and i like the location
- Vivienne (10/5): - Very comfortable. Excellent stop over for Irish ferry.
- Francis (8/5): Overnight stay - Ok for stopover on way to ferry. Ok - just a bit tired - but would stay again!
- Chris (10/5): - This is ideal for my needs. Great value, everything I need from a simple hotel.
- Jackie (10/5): - Good price, the room was clean and was checked and cleaned every day with clean towels and the condiments replenished. Nice big room and comfortable bed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Damp, dated room, absolutely freezing, no free wifi, no food for dinner, will give you some cornflakes for breakfast from the table at bottom of stairs. I left at 4:30am even though alarm was set for 6:30 just to go away and get some food and be away from it. Could literally hear a
- Vivienne (10/5): - Comfortable, very clean.
- Andrew (8/5): - Stayed here one night enroute to Dublin. Checked in after 21.30 when there was no staff present. Easy enough as they left a note for us outlining the codes and to do's. Clean, spacious rooms with lake view. Breakfast can be found at the bottom of the stairs which is cereals, croissants and yogurts.
10 minutes drive from here to Holyhead ferry port. Clean roo
- ADAM (8/5): Accommodating host - We were delayed due to car trouble well beyond the check-in timeframe. The hotelier was understanding and supportive resulting in a swift check-in and well needed night’s sleep.
- Carl (8/5): Ferry port friendly - One night stay on way to ferry port. Very convenient and makes more sense than catching the 0240 option. Got a good nights sleep before continuing journey.
- Lorena (8/5): - Lovely view in our room. The building is old but room was very clean and the bed was comfy. Breakfast is not continental but it's ok (cereals, milk, yogurt, fruit, juice...) There isnt much to do around the area so I would say it's ok for a overnight stay.
- Suzanne (6/5): - No evening bar
- Gemma (10/5): - We had a great nights stay here. Please don’t be put off by some of the reviews. The room was clean and spacious. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Comfy bed and plenty of pillows! It’s a great base to explore the local area. The host was very friendly and the bar was perfect for grabbing a drink and sitting outside in the sunshine with it.
- Hazel (8/5): - The Anchorage Hotel, was easy to find, parking was good, room was clean, spacious and comfortable beds. There was a grass area behind accommodation which was handy to take my dog to relieve herself.
There was a bar lounge in main building that was open from 4pm, unfortunately I did not make use of the bar facilities. There was no restaurant facilities during our stay and the breakfast was a help yourself area on the ground floor of the accommodation block. It was well stocked with a variety of small cereal boxes, fresh fruit bowl, individual wrapped pastries and a fridge with milk and a selection of yoghurts. If you prefer a cooked breakfast there is a small cafe behind the Spar store.
- Philip (6/5): - On the site said check in at 3 pm then got there and said check in at 4 no restaurant or bar open had to go to get food elsewhere other than that room comfortable and no more complaints
- susan (4/5): - No reception no bar no food no person old mouldy bathroom tired furnishings website pictures must be at least 20 years old
- Jessica (10/5): - Dawn was excellent :)
- Chris (4/5): - Thought I'd stay over night rather than getting the late ferry arriving in Dublin 1:50am, I so wish I'd got the ferry - would have saved money and probably been more comfortable.
Feel like I've been ripped off paying for something that failed to deliver. No restaurant, no bar, no staff (that I saw).
Room was fairly clean to be fair but bathroom smelt, no blind on window in a ground floor bathroom !
Very, very tired unloved place, think I was 1 of only 3 people staying there.
Premier Inn would have been better option and I normally avoid them favouring none chain hotels.
- Carole (8/5): - The hotel was clean and comfortable, the Continental breakfast was adequate. Out of 25 rooms, only about 3 were occupied, there was no restaurant service, and it felt as if the hotel was "winding down".
- Libby (6/5): - The gentleman in charge was lovely, however it was disappointing to discover the breakfast was only cereal, pre-packed pastries and yoghurt to eat in your room, and the quality of the tea was very poor. A hotel with so much potential, but sadly fading.
- Alison (6/5): - I don't want to do it down as the room was brilliant and a really comfortable bed. The hotel is up for sale, all the staff were made redundant last October. There is no kitchen therefore no meals. The breakfast was 'grab and go', cereal, cakes, yoghurt, no option for diabetics.
- Stephen (2/5): Avoid if you can - Check in was perfunctory. Not told about WIFI, just where room was across the car park and continental breakfast was in a room near the stairs. This was little bigger than a cupboard with boxes of cereal, some fruit and a small wine fridge with out of date milk, yogurts and orange juice, an individually packaged croissants and marmalade - who eats croissants with marmalade. There was a microwave to warm croissants. There was nowhere to sit so had to take to room where there was no table. The TMV valves were missing on radiators so couldn't regulate the heat. Room was clean but very old and needing a major upgrade. Lighting was poor and unable to read a book, TV was old flat screen, not a SMART one. The wet room had good shower but no fan that worked the switch was tapped over with insulation tape. The cleaner said that she could not sort the milk situation out till the bosses arrived at 9.30am. So we found out there was no one on site overnight!! For £108 a night this was very poor and we should have gone to the travel lodge
- newtonsteve (6/5): Avoid if possible. - Hotel is basic to say least. Checking gave no indication of WiFi, just given a key and told continental breakfast in the small room but no tables. Had to eat in room. Bedroom was clean but lighting was poor. Fan didn’t work in bathroom so it got very steamy during shower. When looked at the 1/3 full 2 litre bottle of milk it was out of date 5-7 June and it was 8th. There were others stating so wouldn’t be enough anyway. Cleaner apologetic but said couldn’t access any milk till boses in at 9.30.
For £108 a night this was very poor.
- Lee (6/5): - Ordered a triple room but got a double bed and a single which meant sharing a bed!
Breakfast is cereal and packet pastries that you help yourself to and take back to your room.
Room was clean but tired.
Staff were really nice.
- Gary (4/5): - When I arrived at the Hotel I was told there was no hot food that evening and that the bar would only be open until 8pm. Therefore I had to drive out to find hot food. There was only a continental breakfast available from a very small room with no tables or chairs so could only be eaten in your bedroom, not ideal. The room was good but was cold and the knobs on the radiators removed so you couldn’t adjust anything. The bathroom was a wet room which didn’t drain very well so room was soon flooding and the shower didn’t get hot so had to have cold shower. Overall not up to standard.
- Andrew (10/5): - Clean, friendly, relaxed.
- Clifford (8/5): - The room was a really good size with all the amenities you need, bed was really comfortable so I got a good night's sleep, bath room spotless with a very powerful shower all in all fault less. The restaurant was closed and the bar only opened for limited hours when these are fully opened and they are to the same standard as the room I will give this A5 star rating
- Debby (6/5): Basic Clean Accommodation - Overall good stay but basic accommodation. The breakfast was continental which was in a refrigerator downstairs so we had to bring it back to eat in our room which was upstairs
this could be difficult for some people. A good base to explore the surrounding areas at a fair price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not worth the money - The lady on reception and the cleaner were lovely.
The bedding was clean
The towels were clean but smelt of bleach.
The bedroom area was clean and tidy.
The bathroom had loads of mould. Water pressure is low and like the rest of the room and hotel in general it is very dated.
Breakfast is a help yourself, cornflakes, orange juice and fruit which is situated in the hall.
Staff told us that the hotel closed its doors 18 months ago and has been up for sale since then. The kitchens are closed and the nearest place to eat is in the next town, about a five minute drive away.
To keep on top of the bills, 8 rooms in an annex building, are being rented out.
We booked for two nights and if we could we would have asked for our money back and left immediately. As it was we stopped for just one night and left.
We feel ripped off with the economical description of, " Hotel not working at full capacity" and "Kitchens are temporarily closed!"
- Roger (8/5): - Room was fine, but property is for sale, not told there is no available food in the evening and no cooked breakfast, web site is vague about this.
- Stephen (4/5): - The hotel should have texted to say it was closed and no food or bar services. Bedroom was clean and comfortable
- Cliff (4/5): - The breakfast was a disgrace, The location of the food terrible.
If you are locked out of your room at night and you have left your mobile phone in the room, there is no way of contacting the Manager. There was mould and dirt between the bathroom tiles. It took over 5 minutes for the showers to get warm water. The soup was a tablet less than the size of a 50p and opened was in fragments. My feet were touching the bottom of the bed with little room. Getting in and out of the high sided bath was dangerous, there where no grab bars to assist. Traffic noise was a nuisance.
- Paul (4/5): - No catering apart from limited ‘ continental’ breakfast.
Hotel up for sale
- Christophe (8/5): One night in Anglesey - Easy to find with a large parking. Calm room despite in front of the main road but it's far away to be the highway. Clean and spacious room with alll amenities. Great and warm shower. Breakfast consists in a single take away buffet and a fridge with milk and juices, with very few choices, in a tiny room. So don't expect a traditionnal cooked british breakfast.
- FrankJ123 (6/5): Not up to expectations. - Not the sort of review I expected or wanted to write, but after staying here in the past this visit did not live up to my expectations.
The room was a good size and very clean and tidy, parking was good, the bar was OK but had limited opening times.
But no food available, on previous visits I have really enjoyed the restaurant food on offer and that’s what I was expecting.
On checking in the manager/owner explained that they were not doing food, as they were trying to retire.
I was told a self service breakfast would be available, but there was no sign of this when I left at 7.00 am on Sunday morning.
- Frank (8/5): In Limbo - I have stayed at this hotel before that’s why I rebooked, unfortunately I was told at check in that the restaurant was closed and no food was available.
The bar was open until 9.00 pm.
I was told breakfast would be available, self service but when I left at 7.00 am this was not available.
Overall, good location, good parking, but could be a lot better.
The manager explained that they were “trying to retire “.
Someone take it on and release it full potential.
- George (4/5): - This pertains to be a hotel, it is not.
It is a room with some cereals, fruit and juice left out supposedly.a continental breakfast.
The room is dated and needs refreshing, there is No restaurant though it shows one one website.
Hot water ran out one.morning as boiler on a timer as are radiators for drying clothing
Overall a very poor value for money establishment,.known to locals as a rip pff
I will not be going back
Should not be advertised as a hotel by themselves or outside agencies
- suzanne (10/5): Very relaxing - Rooms only available with breakfast self service which was more than enough
My room was delightful with stunning views from a corner bay window
Very relaxing and comfortable stay
- Lynn (10/5): - Lovely friendly experience, we were made to feel very welcome. Room was spacious, beds were ok, room was a bit dated overall.
Grab and go breakfast was adequate and easy to get to, with fresh milk and a microwave if needed.
Bar was nice and cosy and closes at 9pm.
- Shelley (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely clean hotel! I highly recommend staying!
- Samantha (10/5): - friendly & centrally located. lovely rooms.
- Alan (2/5): - No restaurant,no bar, no staff, no breakfast so to speak. It's clean and tidy.
- Dave (2/5): Mostly shut - Shambles really, told not really open as sale of hotel fell through. Cold, no shower curtain, WiFi shoddy, breakfast box of cereal. Avoid
- Edward (10/5): Excellent service - The room was comfortable and well turned out. David who served us was extremely friendly and helpful. We loved it there.
He knew we were leaving early so he made sure we were able to get some of the complimentary continental breakfast
In general nice and personable touches
- Kenneth (8/5): - Close to daughters caravan
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Restaurant was closed, poor bar and only a poor cereal style breakfast on a help yourself table situated in the corridor outside the rooms. When we stayed here a couple of years ago, the restaurant and bar were open and both good plus a full English breakfast was served, this what we expected this time.
- Tim (8/5): No restaurant on site… - Make no bones this is not one for business travelers. No food on site. Plenty of local restaurants but your will have to drive. Breakfast is a cold continental.
Staff are characters 👍
- Robert (6/5): Unexpected - Very basic, breakfast was at the bottom of the stairs, cereal bread and little bit of fruit, had to eat in the bedroom ,bathroom was not up to standard, no staff to welcome me when i arrived, when the owner came in and checked my booking, he handed me the key for the building next door, wasn't impressed at all, i had a tent in my jeep and I was sorry that I didn't use it, never go back there.
- Rachel (8/5): - Lovely room with sea view
Very comfortable
- Mike (10/5): - The property was great the restaurant is closed so we went into town about a mile and there were a lot of choices on the water. Staff was great, bar was great. Friendly and quiet.
- Kenneth (8/5): - Close for us to amenities. Comfortable. Really like staying here
- Steve (4/5): - On its website and on Expedia website it states “Two restaurants “ the fact is the restaurants closed in October 2023. Very disappointing as there are no restaurants within a mile. The accommodation is in an annex about 50 metres from the main building. We contacted Expedia for assistance and spoke for 54 minutes with a very helpful lady. As a gesture of good will for the inconvenience Expedia offered a refund of £51. We have not received any money from Expedia to date. At the hotel reception we insisted on a full refund due to misrepresentation of the services advertised on both websites.
- Jeremy (4/5): - We arrived at the advertised check-in time of 3.00pm to find an empty car park and a note on the door saying check-in started at 4pm. The room was ok but dated, there were cobwebs on the coving above the bed and on one lampshade.
The included breakfast was a very poor 'continental' one. The restaurant at the property was closed, apparently the kitchens were not working.
There seemed to be about 40 rooms, but just 4 rooms were occupied on the first night we were there (8.9.2024) and I think 7 or 8 the second. The only time we saw any staff was when we first checked in, keys had to be left in a bowl by the door on leaving.
- Kevin (2/5): - I was asked at check in if I had eaten, because they don’t do food! I said no problem so long as the bar is open, to which she replied it’s not. I was then told that the hotel was up for sale and only running on a skeleton staff. I was then given a key for the annex as the main building was closed to customers. Breakfast I was told could be found under the stairs with milk, juice and yoghurts in a fridge!
Once I got to my room the disappointment continued! The room smelled damp and musty which affected my breathing. The bathroom was terrible. Avoid this property like the plague. I actually booked another hotel and didn’t stay there!
- Angela (6/5): - Unfortunately very tired hotel run by very few staff. Bar closed at 8, no restaurant on site, breakfast help yourself to cereal boxes and fruit. On the plus side it was quiet, clean and the manager/owner was friendly. Shame as the location is good.
- Tushar (10/5): - Nice hotel. Good location and value of money.
- Dick (6/5): Convenient basic overnight stop. - Convenient for the Holyhead ferry port. There is parking but no restaurant and breakfast is a very basic selection of cereal and pre- packed pastries. My bed was comfortable and the shower was good. It's cheap and you get pretty much what you would expect for the price.
- michael (2/5): - Not for me
- Barbara (8/5): - Difficult to get on the road from the car park, due to a shrub, blocking the clear view of the road. Hotel bar closed at 8pm! No-one on reception after 8pm
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Check in was fast, bar was good, room was ok tired but good and bed was comfy
- Sarah (4/5): August 24 - A major factor in booking was the inclusion of a cooked breakfast. We had stayed here about 18 months ago and enjoyed this. However this was not available (apparently kitchen shut down? ) and in its place was a selection of pasties and cereal. Jam etc and butter provided but no bread/ toast.
Doubt I’ll be booking this one again.
- Rob (6/5): - Cheap as chips budget hotel. Restaurant closed. No cooked breakfast. No mattered protectors but you get what you pay for
- Emma (2/5): - Property is old and fairly rundown. The restaurants were closed, however nothing noted when I made the booking, meaning we couldn’t get any dinner because all local restaurants were fully booked. Breakfast was a few croissants stored in a stairwell. No hot drinks or hot food. Rooms are very over priced and facilities are poor. Area is awful. Would not return.
- Ben (10/5): - Nice comfortable hotel
- David (8/5): Comfortable stay - The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. However, he was overworked. The DIY breakfast was a good idea. It was a pity that the restaurant closed so early as we were unable to reach the hotel in time for an evening meal. Overall, the two nights spent there were comfortable and good value for money.
- X5450XJmartinw (2/5): This Hotel advertises 2 restaurants there are no restaurants open and they haven’t been open for at least two months whe - The Anchorage Hotel advertises that it has two restaurants and you can sit down have a nice meal and drink in the bar. The bar has extremely limited opening times. The bar area is extremely rundown pungent smell they allow a cat to wonder about on the bar. There are no restaurants open at this hotel. The hotel is run mainly as a part-time bar with an annex that rents off rooms. We complain to the owner about the restaurants and was given a shortlist of alternative places to eat we complaintto Hotels.com and they said that they would look into it they came back and said there was nothing they could do. They are still advertising the hotel with two restaurants. Please do not book into this hotel.
- Julie (6/5): Clean rooms, but not what I expected as a whole. - The room was spacious and clean, the beds comfortable. There were lots of places for improvements though. Breakfast was included, but this was a serve yourself from a small selection of fruit (apples and bananas) and cereals, and some individually wrapped pastries. I stated on booking that a vegan breakfast would be required, but no alternative milks available. Upon check in, we were informed that that restaurant wouldn't be open, and the bar would be closing at 9, but actually closed at 8:20. They have a resident cat who is lovely, but unfortunately, the bar stank of cat urine, so not inviting or a comfortable place to unwind after a day of exploring. The place could be fantastic with a bit of effort and tlc.
- Donna (2/5): - I wouldn’t stay here if you paid me - in fact I checked in, after paying through expedia then I left and paid again to stay somewhere else. The rooms are mouldy and stink. The so called breakfast is an absolute joke - not even sure you could call it food. There is no restaurant or bars available on site and the guy who checked me in was creepy to say the least - he opened the room door and came in - speaking about making sure I was safe at night when travelling alone as a woman. I didn’t feel safe at all - so left! The hotel where no one would hear you scream!
This should be removed from Expedia.
- Cael (8/5): Work - Tidy enough
- Lisa (10/5): - Clean room, good location
- Martin (6/5): - The owner was friendly enough but we booked the hotel for our 39th wedding anniversary choosing it because it was advertising 2 Restaraunts the owner told us they had been shut for months
- nigel (10/5): - Excellent room. Quality throughout. Relaxing environment. Very professionally run.
- Patricia (10/5): - The property was ideal for our overnight stay before catching the early ferry.
Near the port ( 10min drive).
The room was lovely.
Breakfast was “ help yourself” but ample.
No surprises if you read the website thoroughly.
- michael (8/5): comfortable and clean - manage expectations this is not a 5 star hotel and doesnt claim to be .Comfortable, clean ,friendly and in a good location (local shops and restaurants) and reasonably priced
- Lesley (8/5): - We stayed in the annex, room had beautiful view over the bay. Room was very clean and well appointed, lots of hot water good bath & shower. Breakfast self service to eat in your room, cereal, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, fruit juice and fresh milk (yoghurt, milk and juice all kept in a fridge) We will definitely stay again only down side no restaurant on site but lots available locally. Good parking
- Frances (10/5): - Clean, tidy, friendly and spacious. I would recommend the Anchorage Hotel
- Shirley (4/5): - We were disappointed to find, on arrival, that the dining facilities (bar, restaurant, residents lounge) were closed. We were not told in advance. The hotel claims the following: "an à la carte restaurant open to residents and non-residents, and a large and popular lounge bar and dining area serving a wide selection of bar meals. There is also a comfortable Residents Lounge." This is not accurate. The lounge and restaurant were closed. Breakfast consisted of a table under the stairs next to the fire escape, with no tables or chairs to sit at (cornflakes and juice). When it stated breakfast included, and shows pictures of a restaurant/bar, we expected better for the price. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable, but the food/drink options are not as advertised.
- sarah.f. (2/5): - This is not a hotel. No restaurant and room smelt of damp badly. This guy is selling it and therefore is just renting out the rooms. Breakfast is a pain au chocolate cereal in ur room. The place hasn’t been done up since the 70 s. Will not stay here again. No one on reception after 4 pm.
- Stephen (8/5): Revisiting old holiday pastures - Parking was ample and immediately to the front & side of the property. A pleasant enough 'Welcome' was received, and was informative. Sadly the Restaurant wasn't available during our stay although the bar was open until 8pm. A 'serve yourself ' continental style breakfast was provided/available at the foot of the stairwell but it was necessary not to leave it to late as the choice became very limited.
Room, (No35) was a good size with a nice view and has a pleasing/comfortable feeling. Although clean it was tired and sadly spiders occupied several corners at ceiling level. The chairs provided were 'worn' on the arms and looked dirty even though they weren't particularly. The bathroom is most certainly due a refurb and it's window, once opened couldn't be shut without some ingenuity. The bed was clean, comfortable and size wise more than adequate. Facilities for tea/coffee/biscuits within the room we're also adequately provided for.
Overall we wouldn't 'not' stay there again but would hope for an improvement.
- Kenya (10/5): - Comfortable, clean and silence. We rest and we had private time.
- David (8/5): - Disappointed about no restaurant in house, had to drive into the village. Th upside they was a good choice there but don’t like not been able to have a drink because of driving.
- Charles (6/5): - Very poor continental breakfast. Very limited selection, no toast, no jam or marmalade, no sugar and no trays to carry anything back to your room (upstairs!). Last up had no pastries etc.. Very disappointing after staying there previously and having excellent cooked breakfasts.
- Helen (6/5): - We know the anchorage going back for years. We have had a lot of meals there. Unfortunately it is being sold and the service remaining is poor. Continental breakfaat placed in the hall where people are expected to collect ot an eat in their rooms. Its a shame. Just no atmosphere any more.
