My review is based specifically on my interaction with the host when I enquired about the possibility of a room upgrade. The booking was arranged for me as a gift, as I needed a quiet mental retreat and a natural setting in which to focus on work. I did not make the booking myself. Unfortunately, a room was selected instead of an apartment, although they were similarly priced.I live in Johannesburg and had intentionally left my own home for a few days in order to rest and work in a peaceful environment. Upon check-in, I realised that the room allocated to me was a small room situated between two couples. Given the purpose of my stay, this was not ideal. In an effort to make the best of the situation, I approached reception to ask whether it might be possible to upgrade to an apartment. I made it clear that I was willing to pay the difference.A gentleman initially assisted me and indicated that they would try to arrange something for the following day. When my sister asked whether it might be possible that same day, he stepped away and returned with his wife, who is the host.The interaction that followed was disappointing. Rather than engaging with the request itself, she focused on the fact that the room booked was exactly as described and that I should have read the fine print. I was not disputing this, nor was I complaining about the room. I was simply enquiring whether an upgrade — at my own cost — might be possible, which is a fairly standard request in hospitality settings.The tone of the exchange felt dismissive and condescending. When I chose to step away from the conversation, she continued speaking in a raised voice. This left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I understand that the property may have been fully booked, and I accept that an upgrade may not have been possible. However, even when a request cannot be accommodated, professionalism and courtesy make a significant difference.

As someone who has had consistently positive experiences booking through Booking.com, this interaction stood out. Having since read other reviews, I note that similar concerns about tone and communication have been raised, which suggests my experience was not isolated.Given the circumstances, I ultimately chose to shorten my stay and return to my home in Johannesburg earlier than planned.As a host, you deal with people who come with different needs and circumstances. Not every request is a criticism. Even when something cannot be accommodated, the manner in which it is communicated matters greatly. Hospitality begins with how people are spoken to. Kindness goes a long way.

Set in a beautiful garden with wonderful bird life. My room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped for self catering. The communal facilities are varied and I am sure conducive to celebrations and family gatherings

The place is very quiet, perfect for refreshing and relaxing. Their room service is responding very quickly, thats a good thing. Oh, and the place is just small and beautiful. Really enjoyed my stay there.
