Kona Koa Lodge

Beautiful cabin. Good location. The landlords were very helpful and friendly. The tour guide Alejandra was excellent.

The location is beautiful and peaceful. You can see the ocean and sunset from your terrace. Jerome has done a beautiful job planting trees and flowers so the property is green and full of life. It’s a charming place, and the owners are friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The towels and bedding were clean. There is no AC so the house gets very hot. There are also mosquitoes, and plug-in repellent is provided but it may be a good idea to bring a spray so you don’t get bitten. Fidji picked us up from the airport and dropped us back off, which was much appreciated.

The cleanliness standard could be improved, especially in the bathroom and kitchen. The toilet was not properly clean, there were hairs around the seat when we arrived and the washbasin didn’t look spotless either. The kitchen utensils and fridge could also be better maintained, and the dining table was dirty and hadn’t been cleaned after the previous guests. The hygiene standards should be better for the price paid. We booked a guide for the national park through the lodge, but the experience was very bad. The guide was uninterested, lacked knowledge (which was not due to the language barrier) and would spend time on his phone while we were visiting sites. One of the previous reviews mentioned something similar, that essentially it felt like paying 160USD for a driver rather than a guide and I would not recommend this option if you’d like to learn about the history and culture. We took a tour with a company we found online, and that guide was so much more knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his job. The car we rented from the lodge was old, and while it was functional, I don’t think the quality justifies the price (60USD per day), but this seems to be the widely accepted norm on the island. Finally, we had left a bikini top hanging on one of the hangers in the open wardrobe. The next day in the afternoon, I couldn’t find it. We searched and searched, and finally found that it had been tucked away on the top shelf of the wardrobe behind the spare blanket, and it was stained with multiple black marks. What happened to this bikini top remains an unsolved mystery…

We loved our cabin. The porch was a nice relaxing place to hang out and we had just enough space for our family of 4. I highly recommend. We also appreciated the Lodge picking us up from the airport and arranging for a car and a guide (who was great!).

A most delightful cabin set in tropical gardens with a secluded porch looking out over the sea. Fidji could not have been more helpful, arranging car hire, tour guide and providing fantastic information on the best places to shop eat and drink. The rooms were clean, very comfortable bed and the kitchen well equipped. Small touches like fresh flowers and real coffee for the kitchen made our stay just perfect.

The lodge is perfect! Great bed and shower, and a small kitchen with everything needed to prepare a breakfast or a meal! Jerome and Fiji are great hostess!!! They provided us with all the information to explore the island, including the tours. We had a great time in Kona Koa!!! Fantástico!!!

It’s a beautiful and quiet spot. Host is accommodating and welcoming. Our bungalow was very clean and our bed is extremely comfortable. Beautiful ocean view and pretty landscape all around. We have a covered parking space. A kitchen is helpful to make it at home. All of which makes it a relaxing oasis. The reasons for the 4 star: The road to the lodge is a bit rough. Dirt road from the main road. So if you don’t rent a car, you cannot really get there without getting all muddy. There’s no fan in the room so it gets pretty hot until after ten or eleven before it can cool down. Our drain does not have a cover so you’re taking a shower with the open drain in the middle of the shower pan. These are some very minor issues, but make it slightly less than perfect. Overall, we had a very nice stay. Love the place.

What a gem of a place. We loved our visit at Kona Koa - the houses are roomy and comfy, with lots of privacy and tranquility. The owners are wonderful hosts and were helpful in finding us a tour guide, as well as booking restaurants and shows. We hope to be back someday!

The host Jerome and Fiji are super friendly. They keep the room clean too.

Jerome and his family were very welcoming and accomodating hosts. They provided transportation to and from the airport. The room was incredibly spacious with a stunning view. WiFi was strong. There was a kitchenette where we were able to make any meals, coffee and tea. There's a water jug too, which was so helpful.

If you don't have a means of transportation, it's a bit of a walk (30 minutes) from the main street. We didn't mind it but it got tiring after a few days. Something to consider!
